Nice video! This is probably one the hardest strokes to execute, if not the hardest. One important tip.. at the point of contact, it helps to have a firm grip between the thumb and the index finger; really try to accentuate these two fingers to overpower the incoming spin.
This is incredible, I've been wondering why my backhand topspin can't get over the net, now I know I have to place my initial bat position lower, thank you!
For those of you always getting the ball into the net (like me :P), adjust UA-cam video speed to 0.25 and compare these two shots: Good shot: 1:22 Bad shot: 1:32
A concept is established, before each blow you should take strength from the ground, in the video I find that you do not give importance to how the hips must work and the foot support evolves in the blow, but emphasis is given to how the wrist on the ball, rightly important, but it is the final part of the shot, thanks for giving me the opportunity to reason with you on the table tennis technique
I've always wondered why the finish on most back hand strokes look like they are swatting the ball to the side 2:47. 🤔 I typically follow through with my paddle pointed at my target and the racquet angle closed. Is that wrong?
YouAllJackasses same here. I like to follow through and point. The way Dan does it looks more like a false/extra movement on the follow through to the side 2:47. I do see a lot of pros do it though like FZD.
Thoeun Kong it actually has to do with the human anatomy. If you try to use your wrist right now and try to move it in every direction( up, down, left right), you'll notice that moving your wrist up only works so much. Pressing down doesn't feel right. It even hurts if you do it too fast. You should notice that you get the fastest and strongest wrist power when moving it to the left and right. When you serve, you also move your wrist from right to left. On the backhand topspin it's the same thing. You turn your wrist inwards towards your body and when you play the topspin your move it to the right. Just put your hand out as if you'd shake someone's hand and try the movements I just destribed.
If you ever happen to have a crap ton of free time, if you put all their videos in a playlist on UA-cam and then record your screen while automatically going through all the videos, you will be able to watch the recording of the videos offline.
Greetings from Guayaquil-Ecuador. Their videos are very interesting, but for South America we need you to implement the subtitles in Spanish language in all your videos, please. I don't use my backhand most of the time.... I just go for a simple chop or I use my forehand... I personally hate my backhand... Do you have any tips that make me love it?
You may never love it. It's a bit less natural motion, IMO. However, when I started playing in the office a couple years ago, I mostly played backhand blocks and pushes with a fair amount of success to force errors. It even still, it can be effective in the first few returns of a rally to better setup to forehand loops. The shot in this video can be an effective 3rd hit if it's a short backspin serve, followed by a longer push, then this shot. So, again, you may never love your backhand, but you can learn to work with it to get some effective shots.
i have 2 points to make. first.. what if the backspin comes in and you dont have time to make room.between u and the ball. second the backspin demonstration is ofg mild backspin balls.. demonstrate with heavy very heavy fast backspins because thats what we get usually at clubs.
Best example of this shot among pros is Jorg Rosskopf. He keeps bat and whole body low, then whips very fast so he can kill his opponent against his backspin push - so effective and fun to watch. Cheers. ua-cam.com/video/hbmFUy2Lz54/v-deo.html This is what im talking about. Just wow. Sometimes he almost touch the ground with his bat ;)

I agree, by tightening the grip before contact it helped me with the racket acceleration

These guys are serious about table tennis and giving very good tutorials. Thanks guys
Very nice tutorial! Also, a quick overview of leg positioning would be very helpful.
great slo-mo vid dan! love the jump step you do before each shot!!! so important, but barely visible in real time.
Nice video I am working on improving my backhand topspin and you guys helped me so much thanks :D

Hi Dan and Tom! Is the stroke more on wrist action than forearm like the forearm just go with the wrist rather than the wrist following the arm?
Wow this channel is amazing
Thanks Luca!
hi there, what should be the contact point of the bat with the ball
Great tips
Thanks..😊🙏
very useful

Хорошая техника. Ждём обзор dhs hl5 вместе с Ма Луном.
Nice
What is the name of the serve?
How do you flick a heavy backspin low short serve? The serves and push in this video are just light backspin
Yes
Which country you are from DAN
How can we know the feeling in a game between a floater and underspin as in a rally its difficult to judge ones nature to play the shot ?
Experience. Look at the ball and opponent's touch on the ball
If you haven’t seen Tom play tournament, do yourself a favour & watch. He has a pro level backhand

U hit it same way but lean back as u hit the ball. It's a bad shot but it gets the job done. But do get ready for the counter cuz the shot is high
Please show us the contact point on the ball.
BMX2 should be the same top middle region for every ball, right?
Thoeun Kong depends on the amount of under spin, the more spin the lower the contact point will be.
Reinaldo Pessoa I thought he was asking about the contact point on the rubber/racquet-head.
Thoeun Kong oh yeah no. It's hard to be precise with rubber contact but with the ball knowing where to hit makes a world of difference.
I meant what point on the ball we must hit?
Maybe some closer slow mo shots would help
Thanks, I did it wrong. Now practising to get rid of the wrong stroke
Drop the shoulder, nuf said
