In scifi around 1950, antimatter was called contraterrene matter, as in "Seetee Shock," one of a series of stories about asteroid belt colonists using contraterrene matter as a weapon in their fight for independence. Seetee is just the pronunciation of CT, the abbreviation of contraterrene, and Shock is the result of radiation poisoning from contact of the two types of matter. Calling it antimatter makes talking about it a lot easier.
