Harrison Ford owns a Kodiak 100 and keeps it hangared with his many other aircraft at KDIJ (he has property in nearby Jackson Hole). He was in the local pattern a lot with his model 100 this past summer and I had never heard of a 'Kodiak' until I heard him on the CTAF broadcasting the type call sign. I asked him if he was the Caravan on base when I was entering downwind and I remember him replying, "No. It looks like a Caravan and sounds like a Caravan, but it's not a Caravan." Pretty much summed it up, lol. Harrison also owns a pristine de Havilland Beaver, also based out of KDIJ, but seemed to fly the Kodiak more than anything else at the time. Must be quite a machine.
He seems like a really cool guy to meet! Even more bad ass that he flies a Kodiak. Thanks for watching!
Harrison used to own a Caravan actually, and flew it out of Santa Monica pretty often a few years ago. I guess he upgraded to the Kodiak. Here is HF at Santa Monica loading up his Caravan: ua-cam.com/video/7dG04_yT4gY/v-deo.html
@@hg2. Pretty sure Harrison Ford is an actor, but I'll double check on that.
@@hg2. Dude spends at least 8 years total getting a combination of undergraduate and doctor of medicine degrees, a year of residency someplace (making next to nothing money-wise), plus an additional internship somewhere, accrues hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt before even starting a private practice, and works his behind off building a successful clinic with multiple locations. A few gray hairs later he so can finally afford a cool toy that he is particularly proud of and enjoys sharing the experience with other aviation enthusiasts. It's a conspiracy for sure. Personally, I sit around doing nothing all day waiting to win the lottery (fingers crossed).
Good point on the 1st Impression regarding sales! Good job Mark!
I’ve been watching your videos since before I got my PPL. As a newer pilot I’ve learned so much from watching you. Humbled having you watch my channel 🙏
Great video. I had a similar experience with my TBM and an M600 when I did my demo flights. Daher cares about their AP and the people who buy them. Also the people at the service centers are hands down the most helpful.
Yes the aftercare service has been really good. I will be doing a video about that in the future. Thanks for watching!
That was my experience to a tee…. The “salespeople” or rather “order takers” with Cessna were arrogant, condescending if you remotely bring up a feature you like better of a competitor. And they all say the same condescending rebuttals, they must get “schooled” with what to say, it’s almost comical…..
It really wouldn’t have mattered because it’s clearly obvious in person the quality differences between the Kodiak and the caravan. However ruining the first impression is a terrible way to start something.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this, loved it :)
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos and IG Amir. It's cool to see someone who has the funds to buy a jet get into something like a Kodiak, and use It the way It was designed. Also, Sweet RM!
Thank you! Jet is coming! Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more content 🙏
@@kodiakmdyou will fly your Kodiak much more. Your jet ownership will make you appreciate your Kodiak more too.
I guess it depends on the application it is utilised for. I worked at a DZ who got the first Kodiak in Europe. From a parachuting perspective it didn’t match the C-208. The front edge of the tail is too close to the rear float step. We had a guy bounce off the tail on one load. The other problem was the exhaust outlet pumping exhaust fumes into the jump cabin. We had an inexperienced pilot was was also our boss who bought it. Bought more through ego than practicality. I’m sure what you use it for it is perfect. For jumping I’d recommend sticking with the C-208.
My application is not for sky diving operations or cargo transportation. If that’s what I was interested in, then yes I’d be looking at a cheaper airplane and wouldn’t worry about the interior, the quality of the airplane, etc. My videos are more directed towards private pilots, such as myself who are possibly looking to get into a turbine platform. When I was researching airplanes, there was a lot of missing information and I’m trying to fill that gap/void. Thanks for watching!
Very informative. I don’t have the funds for this but everyone can dream! It’s very interesting in that you as a person noticed all the special details that might have been overlooked by others. Details are important.
My eye picks up quality 😉 Thanks for watching 🙏
My new favourite plane this Kodiak 100. Thank you for the time reviewing this beauty of yours. In terms of colour I prefer the red ones on the Kodiak 900. As of quality and aftersales wise, Kodiak manufacturer are among the best in the market I have heard so far from different sources.
When you order your Kodiak you get to pick whatever color you love. Thanks for watching
I have been in aviation since 77. Primarily as a A&P, IA. Also a fair number of years military, and contractor. Now I would like to get back into flying and as of right now my choice would be either one of the Kodiak aircraft or perhaps a PC-12. I like both companies and the way they operate, not to mention the quality and safety with both platforms. With both companies you get what you pay for and those big Pratts up front. It just doesn't get any better. Thank you and be safe.
You are absolutely right. Only thing is a new PC12 is over $8m and used ones are still $5-6. You can buy a really nice jet which is much more capable for half of that cost. Thanks for watching!
Great video, very informative ! I live in Sandpoint and get to see a lot of them. Keep the videos coming. Thank you!!!!!
Flying around sandpoint is so beautiful. Thanks for watching!
Great video, great content, I’ve been watching u since your video with Rich…
Thanks for watching!
Great and informative video, you should be a Kodiak rep.
Thanks for watching!!
More videos please! It's been two months since your last Kodiak adventure. I think all of your subscribers have been patient enough and surely you've had enough of your patients. ;)
New video coming soon! I wish I could make more content etc but my free time is limited and doing this UA-cam stuff can be very time consuming but rest assured I’m working on it! Thanks for watching!
@@kodiakmd Cool, thanks! Love all your content.
Nice to see a cool Cessna O-2 on the ramp.

Nice Vid doc. Great plane. I was hoping for this episode and you delivered!
Happy it was informative! Thanks for watching 🙏
Hey mate, yes Aussie lol. Your plane is sick!, congrats on the purchase!. I'm glad you chose the Kodiak. All we have here to look at here is caravans after caravans. I'm yet to see a kodiak in the flesh, but I hope I can one day!. And your colour choice is what I would chose as well if I was in your position, so well done!. They are hands down way more sexy than the caravan. Man I'm a camping/fishing/musician guy and that thing would get used for all them fields if only I could afford one🤣
It’s been an amazing airplane. Thanks for watching!
Nice video! Kodiak on MSFS it's my favorite plane maybe one day I'd fly a real one.
Have you got your IFR license yet?
I have my IFR and Commercial. Thanks for watching!
You did a huge oversight on your video, you missed the really cool bear paw rudder pedals!
You are definitely right! One of the pics I had of my first Kodiak flight was the rudder pedals and they are super cool! I totally forgot to include that. Your attention to detail is valued, and I’m glad you enjoyed watching the video. Thank you for your support and for taking the time to provide feedback 🙏
@@kodiakmd Thanks!!! they a very cool item
I used to live up by Tonopah. Miss Vegas, I am back in So Cal now. I love Havasu and it is my dream to live there. I would love to fly over the Vegas area and then go down the river to Havasu. I only get to see it from the water. This is a gorgeous plane, love the color of it.
Thanks for watching!
How's the service after sale been? I think people feel comfortable with Cessna and its vast service and supply network. Daher's not new, but the Kodiak's sales numbers pale in comparison to the Caravan.
I'm sure if you were the military or a large corporate buyer from Textron you would have gotten a free t-shirt and hat.
It’s been very good. There have been some hiccups as well as some issues with the plane (which is expected) and any situation that wasn’t handled correctly initially was rectified to my satisfaction very very quickly. They listened to my concerns and resolved them to my standard. I will do a video on this subject at some point in the future 🙏
@@kodiakmd Sorry man but it's not expected to have issues with the plane
Thanks for the feedback. Could you please share with me how many new airplanes you have purchased and all have had no initial problems? I was told by Kodiak as well as friends who have purchased new planes that the first 100-200 hours there will be some issues and I’ve certainly had a few things go wrong with the airplane. So I’m curious what your experience has been with a new airplane. Thanks!
Maybe when you want a demo you might fax them your net worth statements and brokerage statements then they pay attention!
Kodiak looks like more of a corporate plane but if ur hauling a caravan is awesome
That 100 paint job reminds me of the old United Airlines Battleship livery 😁
It turned out amazing. Thanks for watching!
Great video Amir - really enjoyed it
What’s not to like Kodiak’s & Motorcycles
Please do more--👍👍👍
More to come! Just takes a lot of time to put this stuff together. Thanks for watching!
The caravan is and has been a work horse I think each airplane has its place in the market but for a family plane I think you made the right choice.
Absolutely. Nothing wrong with a caravan. Just wasn’t for me. Thanks for watching!
Miss your videos. Wishing you the best of health and prosperity.
Thank you! I have a ton of content. Just need someone to edit it all and post it.
The Kodiak maybe great for light loads or private operators but for commercial operators in the worlds most extreme environment’s like “West Papua” (no thats not PNG) they are outperformed by the Cessna 208 and 208B. The PAC 750XL is also outed by the 208 and Kodiak. This guy brought his plane on the experience he had on the sales demo and thats great. Well done Kodiak sales team. The Kodiak has some real C of G problems and some possible control Column binding issues. The Kodiak was designed for the requirements of MAF, (Missionary Aviation Fellowship) If you don’t know who MAF is then you should research them.
Stayed tuned as I will be releasing a video shortly regarding my 2 year ownership journey and the troubles I have had receiving after sales service and terrible warranty policies on my Kodiak.
Great videos, I enjoy to watch them. I had exactly the same dilemma, Grand Caravan vs Kodiak and guess what? I bought a Cessna 150. Ciao 🤣
🤣🤣 Thanks for sharing!
I absolutely love the Kodiak 100, it ended up being my go to plane on MSFS . I'm hoping to retire next year and I'll be doing a discover flight on a 172 and if that confirms my flying passion then I'll do my private pilots license and will go from there. I do love the Beechcraft V36 so that might be more realistic, but if our investments do better than I expect then will look at the Kodiak!
Good luck and thanks for watching
Sounds like you are evaluating the sales departments of both companies more than the airplanes. The Caravan is a much older design and I can use the term proven. It is easier to pick up a used Caravan. Is your wife a pilot too? An old auto salesman told me decades ago , if your upholstery and trims are nice, they will buy that car even if it got an elastic band under the hood.
Sounds like you didn’t watch the whole video…
@@kodiakmd I did watch the whole thing, but what I did not do is to pull out the specs of both planes and compare them side by side , since I am not yet in the market for one that size. A lot of your opinions are subjective, such as the Caravan feels old and less roomy inside etc , but if a buyer can save several hundred of dollars? Most buyer of this class of planes are commercial buyers and they definitely do not take their wives to see the products , as if they are buying their family car.
Wondering if you’ve ever even been in a Caravan or a Kodiak. If you are looking to save several hundred thousands of dollars definitely go with the caravan. I was buying a family airplane… to fly with my wife and kids. Similar to buying a family car…
@@kodiakmd It is rare for non commercial purchase for such airplanes, I rode in Caravans before , but so what, to be able to form a good judgement, I feel I need some stick time in both, which I do not have. The Caravan is slower and older design, that means at least a panel, engine upgrade, that will neatly eat up that cost saving.
Amir I have seen Kodiak planes with tray tables installed in them. Did you get those on yours, they must be optional
They are optional. I didn’t get them because they block being able to slide the seats forward and reconfiguring the airplane. There’s also cabinets/ice chest that go behind the pilot seats. They are really nice but they also take up space. I have a soft yeti cooler there that I can grab and fill up and it’s a great place to store a backpack etc.
Kinda makes sense i guess. Textron cells caravans to commercial operators and fleets. You didnt get the biz jet sales team approach sounds like. Daher caters to a much different customer...
And that’s the message of my video. The caravan is designed for commercial operators like FedEx hauling packages and boxes. It’s not designed for passenger comfort and quality. The caravan would be similar to a Dodge Caravan while the Kodiak is more similar to a Range Rover. Thanks for watching!
Doc. Great video. In this year 02 caravan was a bad time here in Brazil. Each kill all 12 Passengers un his flyes. After that i start watch and know more about Kodiak. Thank you.
That’s very sad to hear. I saw both of those online.
What was the cause of the accidents?
Awesome video 👍🏼
Thanks for watching 🙏
Would be sweet to include performance differences! But overall great video!
That’s a great idea. I can see if I can do that.
Beautiful airplane ! You made the right choice
Thank you!!
And this color scheme is amazing too...
It turned out great! Thanks for watching
Would You upgrade to the new 900 in the future or is it too different?
I wouldn’t. The Kodiak is already expensive as it is. The 900 seems to be about $300k more. You are starting to push close to $4m. At that point I’m really starting to look at a jet which is much more capable and much faster. I don’t need to carry 10-12 people. In fact I am starting to want to carry less. Also, the 900 has a few cool new features like the way the tks fluid is filled and locks on the cargo pod however they really seem to advertise the 20-30 knot speed increase and while that sounds great on paper, in reality it’s not really much difference. For example a flight to Vegas might be 5-10 mins faster and over a 5 hour flight you may save 30 mins time. For me that’s negligible. The 900 also won’t fit in my hanger. Also, currently a 900 has not been delivered and my understanding is they have made 2 of them. It’s going to be a while before the bugs are figured with the 900 and at this point in my life I very much dislike being a beta tester for a manufacturer. I’m very happy with the 100 and it’s perfect for me and my mission. Thanks for watching!
@kodiakmd That's a great answer. I only just became obsessed with flying recently and still haven't had a lesson. Even cessna 182 is out my budget but I'm still manifesting it. Keep the cool flying vids coming and congratulations on your Kodiak 100. Amazing freedom you have.
Nice! -- QUESTION -- Could you still install the float plane option to land on water, or is that something that must be decided before it is built and bought? How big a process is it to convert it? (we are in the PNW and love water planes)
If you have a pod you can’t do floats. So you would need to remove the pod and then if you have tks you have to move the tank into the plane. It’s expensive to do that but not a big deal. The Kodiak factory will do it and it takes them a few weeks.
What is your mission? The Kodiak I see as a utilitarian plane for taking cargo and people in unimproved airstrips. Thus all the cargo hooks and removable carpet. I would think the TBM 960 would be a better family airplane 100 kts faster with nearly the same PT6 engine
Unfortunately it’s too small for me. I primarily fly myself and my surgical staff to my office in Las Vegas for work. Aside from that, with a tbm 2 families cannot go on a trip as you are limited to 6 people and minimal cargo. With the Kodiak I have 2 more seats and lots of cargo space. I can take my family as well as my friends family and we can go to Vegas or skiing for the weekend. While the tbm is an amazing airplane and fast, I’d realistically need a PC-12 and that’s pushing $8m which is out of my price range.
Nice video! Im a new Kodiak driver. Very happy
Where or how do you search for the rings to hang the headsets!!
Congrats! I got them on Amazon.
Thanks, let me know when you are in florida! @@kodiakmd
Quick question I found the rings on amazon but what are those little hangers they are hanging from? Sorry to bug you. @@kodiakmd

This was good. It's nice to put companies on notice to public to let them know sometimes they lose out on customers based on their sales team's inability to sell a product. Hope this was a wake up call to Cessna. That being said, I do agree the Kodiak looks cooler lol.
Sadly I will be doing a video regarding my 2 year ownership experience and the after sales support and unfortunately it’s sad to say I am very unhappy with how Kodiak has managed their service and warranty after purchasing the airplane. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
@@kodiakmdoh no! I’m very sad to hear that…. Are you planning on keeping it or looking at something else? Let us know!!!! Maybe a nice tbm or a pc12 for you!
A tbm is a Daher product and I wouldn’t spend any of my hard earned money with them. Pc12 is amazing but expensive and still slow. Likely keeping the Kodiak and flying a citation m2
Never disregard the initial sales presentation
Agree. Probably a good sign of how future ownership will be. So far Kodiak has been great
I have a feeling that your next airplane will be Phenom 300.
I wish! I think a citation m2 would fit the bill nicely.
@@kodiakmd No question citation is nice but you deserve Phenom 300.:) just tell wife you are getting it and she will need to give up visits to salon.:)
I'd like the 100 stripped of the bottom pod and with the 900 horse pt6
With enough money you can definitely have that. Send me some pics when it’s being delivered 🙌
Can I ask why you didn't choose the Kodiak 900? Or did you get into the market before the 900 was made?
I believe I gave a detailed answer about that in the below comments.
Were specifically looking for a bush-type plane? Did you look at the Pilatus PC-12, Pilatus PC24 rugged jet, TBM 900 or newer, Viking(De Haviland) turbo Beaver?
A PC12 new is $8m. PC24 even more. I also was not ready to move into a PC12 as I was a new pilot. TBM is too small for me. Kodiak Checked a lot of boxes. Thanks for watching!
With the kodiak 100 series what is the MTOW? And what is the gross weight of the aircraft itself as it sits with no fuel and no pax?
Whats the maintenance interval for its checks?
You can find most of this info on the Wikipedia Kodiak 100. The maintenance interval I have the aircraft in CAMP and they basically tell you what is coming up etc. thanks for watching!
Hi handsome. Great channel and video.
Thanks for watching
Kodiak is just an imitation of the Caravan. Caravan Wins!
Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Textron needs to learn from this video.
Sadly I don’t think they care. Their main market for a caravan is not private owners. It’s shipping suppliers like FedEx that place orders for multiple airplanes.
That thing is a beast!!!!
It’s been an amazing airplane and such a great experience flying it.
Is the Kodiak a cooler aircraft, yes. Will the company be around in 10 years, maybe. Cessna will be around and so will their service network.
100% true. The service from Kodiak has been TERRIBLE. They have poorly supported the plane. Stayed tuned for a video I’m putting together explaining it in detail! Thanks for watching.
I could pretend it was me buying planes! Thank you!

Can you tell me were you got the headset holders?
The ones you see in that video I custom made with some paracord and a small carabiner clip

Excellent video production and content and presentation Bob. Dave Voetmann was a fellow MAF pilot in Africa who had the original "napkin" vision of Kodiak with Tom Hamilton in Seattle in late '80s. I ehoped Dave raise some initial funding tghat led to Quest company and BGruce Kennedy of alaska airlines.
Such cool history 🙏
Man you ripped on the Cessna hard lol. Funny though......
I mean, if you sell something that’s 50 years old with zero innovation over the years and just very minor updates, at some point comes competition, and at some point consumers aren’t fooled anymore. Radio shack and Toys R Us are great examples of billion dollar companies that no longer exist due to lack of innovation.
@@kodiakmd I cracked up a few times, good stuff. Love your plane.....life goals!

Omg my textron experience was the worst too
Based on the comments on this video it seems like other peoples experience has been the same.
Great video. I’d be curious when this was and what region of the country you were in touch with in doing your research.
There’s a guy with Textron on UA-cam with awesome content who works in sales. This experience doesn’t seem at all in line with how they operate.
Southern California, and about 2 years ago. What you see online can be very different than what’s in reality. What I talk about was my experience. Could it be different…maybe. But in all likelihood, there’s few people that can speak from experience and I’m one of them. Also, it wasn’t just about how the demo went. It was also mainly about the quality, design, and certification differences between the caravan and the Kodiak in which I try to highlight in this video. Thanks for watching!
Flying is journey. Nice story
Thanks for watching and following my journey 🙏
Well done comparison 👍
Thanks for watching!
the "best one" is the one the owner operates & hopefully flys ..... for C208 owners/operators it's the Caravan.... and that's OK!
Sure if someone is looking for an outdated, cheaper airplane than the caravan fits the bill and it’s completely ok! It’s opposite of what I was looking for which I’ve outlined in the video. Thanks for the comment and watching!
Whats the G rating on it
3.5 million 🤣
Was there a wait to purchase your plane or was it off the lot?
I waited a long time. I was lied to by Kodiak and the after sales support has been very poor. Doing a video on all of this shortly so stay tuned!
I'm sorry you had a bad intro to the Caravan.
While never involved in sales, it sounds like to nme that Cessna has a two tiered approach to sales.
Intro as passenger then as pilot. In fact I'm disappointed in the first impression you had of the aircraft. it sounds like they were treating you as a paying passenger rather than a potential customer.
Yes it was designed in the early 80s. And has been on the market since receiving type certificate in 84.
So yes it might be a bit dated in appearance but it's proven it's worth over the last 40 years.
To each their own. I’d never spend money buying an inferior, dated product that has ancient safety certifications with zero innovation in 40 years. Thanks for watching.
If it’s a $500 phone or multi million dollar plane if you care to sell your product to a customer you better bring your A game that’s why the economy is in the shape it is
100% thanks for watching!
Cam Robinson managed to kill himself and another guy and injured two others in a Kodiak on June 20th, 2023. It was on floats and he was experienced yet he managed to crash it into the trees by the inlet.
That’s extremely sad. I read about that crash and was trying to find more information about it. Was he taking off, landing, was weather a factor? Thanks for watching!
Crazy that Cessna sh*t the bed so hard.
Most of their planes sell to cargo carriers. Very happy with my purchase. Thanks for watching
Liked and Subscribed and Caravan Pffff boring even though it can carry more
The caravan can definitely carry a little more… but the performance of the Kodiak is better and so is the quality. That was a better choice for me! Thanks for watching and the support 🙏

But where's your TKS tank?...ouch
It’s built into the front section of the pod why?
@@kodiakmd Glad they moved it, the one we were looking at had it behind the pilot seat on the seat rails
If the plane doesn’t have a factory cargo pod then the tks tank is in between the seats. If you have a factory pod it’s built into the pods front section. Thanks for watching.
I would have liked your video but you put the 182 down too many times! 😊
I’m sorry. As awesome as a 182 is, it’s still an 80 year old design and that’s my issue with Cessna. There has been zero innovation over 80 years. They could have easily updated the wing design to minimize stall spin tendencies, they could have updated the interior to nicer seats, nicer cockpit, as well as maybe added a parachute. These are just some thoughts that come to my mind. What I love about the Kodiak and the company behind it is the innovation and always pushing to make the aircraft better! Thanks for watching.

The Caravan was murdered when Cessna decided to never innovate or think ahead.
