Someone wise once said people won’t remember you for what you said. They won’t remember you for what you did. But they’ll remember you for how you made them feel. That personifies adams bass playing for me. Ever since I first saw them on the Kenny Everett show doing ‘two hearts’ , I’ve tried to emulate his style and sound. It’s perfect bass for U2 and for me. And it’s simplicity at times is also its genius. I don’t think Adam is underrated by bass players btw, I think he’s revered. By us proper ones at least…😂😉👍nice bloke too. 👍
Love, love, love this! Adam was one of my earliest influences (starting in the late 80s) as a bass player. Hearing him talk about his parts and his style is so cool! Listen when he starts the Vertigo riff. In bar 4, he makes a mistake! 😳😂🤘🏼
It's really incredible that U2 has now for 40 years had hits, yet their music has evolved so many times from the early 80s punk to a stadiuml rock band in the 80s to a totaly new band in the 90s and 2000s. Don't get me wrong they have a sound, but that sound is often abused to levels other bands just don't risk. It was a great pleasure to view this, and yea Adam is very laid back but really a genius to watch live.. I suggest you do so if you haven't because the end is is not as far as the start. Viva U2!
I started playing bass the exact same way, guitar players and drummer wanted me to play bass. I picked up a Music Master bass and Bassman amp and never looked back. That was 1968. All these years later, I have 5 Fender basses, Rumble 500 and 100 amps. I think this Adam Clayton amp is definitely worth checking out. Thanks guys!
Adam is responsible for some of rocks strongest/ iconic bass lines over the past 40 odd years and has undoubtedly influenced many a player up to today and beyond, supreme note economy accompanied with groove, melodic counterpoint and infectious drive, truly under rated by the uninformed until......!!!
I didn't know much about Adam, even after hearing U2 now for 40+ years... He's such an understated guy, but his playing is so solid...and fundamental to the band. I play with a pick primarily as well...so all of this makes complete sense to me. I do wish he would have mentioned his compatriot in the rhythm section, Mr Mullin...because they are so locked in all the time. After Joshua Tree they got so huge that you forget they're just 4 musicians trying to make great music. (I"m sure the amp is great too..would love to check it out).

This would make a killer Guitar amp, there were allot of guitarists that used 15"s, the speakers they make these days are very hi fidelity unlike the 15's from the 60s-80s
Fender never disappoints. I’ve owned Gibsons, MTD, Moollon, Modulus, pretty much every bass. I dumped all of them because I always go back to Fender. I have 11 Fender basses from Vintage to modern and nothing matches them. My first bass was a Squier P bass in 1990 and I’ve never looked back. Main bass now is a Pino Palladino Signature and JMJ Mustang for the stage and a vintage 1964 P and 1974 Jazz for the studio. Fender for life.
I gotta say, I find his words very very relatable! I feel well looked after with my Fender Rumble 40 at home and if I ever need it I have my old reliable GK rig. But I think I will have to check this out. I like it. I really related to everything Adam said stylisticly and philosophy wise. 👍
I’ve always loved the warm valve tones he has in his playing just on the edge( no pun intended) of braking up with a slight distorted tone it sounds amazing to my ears
A 15" speaker... all good. It's hard to beat a 15" for low-down bass frequencies. The one thing I would say is that even though Adam prefers Jazz basses, for me, the punch from a Precision can't be beaten and I think the combination of this amp with a Fender Precision should be fantastic.
I’m not a bass player. I’m a guitarist. But I picked up an Adam Clayton signature bass in Sherwood green just like he’s holding there. It’s pretty cool.
Wow what a really good video demonstrating the amp. And what a great job by Adam articulating his role in the band and how he sees the bass fitting in musically. I love that he played some classic U2 bass lines and didn’t feel the need to have to show off. Rock steady bassist and a rock steady amp. Just wish it didn’t cost so much.
Dude, me too! I already got mine! Thank you so much Fender for making a LEGIT BASS Combo amp for gigging musicians. My back thanks you! This replaced my Ampeg SVT rig for gigs. I just can’t swing heavy rigs anymore. Isn’t practical. I still can’t bring myself to go all digital, so this Fender AC Combo will do just fine!
@@mykanoname9012 it’s exactly how Adam describes it. How about that, huh? An amp that lives up to the “hype.” For me, I love that “driving/overdrive” tone… so I love it! You can still get plenty of lows. So don’t worry. The good thing is, if you’re in a loud band and want to cut through, having the mid range option really helps push your sound through in a rehearsal room or on stage. It is it’s own beast. If you want the SVT sound, buy a SVT. Let’s not forget that it’s 50lbs!! Too many Pro’s(verses cons) to not give it a shot. I honestly can’t think of any cons. Just know what you’re buying. It kind of reminds me a bit of Mike Dirnt’s Bassman head..if that’s any help.

I’ve got it and thought it did good by itself with my band. Didn’t even have it halfway up on the volume. How do you think it would sound with a fender rumble 115 extension cabinet? I also have a rumble 410 cabinet I could use. My only concern is that the cabinets don’t match the ACB50’s specs
There are players that make things sound better and others that just want to stand out. The great ones are the ones that go straight down the middle, like Adam.
Oddly enough I picked up a Fender Bassman recently & have enjoyed playing my Jazz through it at band practice, great sound...I'll be waiting for this to be released here in Thailand...
That sounds pretty good for a Fender amp. I have two Rumbles(a 15v and a 100v), but like what Adam said, they’re too low-end heavy and don’t really have any midrange. But this amp intrigues me for sure. It seems to actually have decent midrange, but you couldn’t tell without a little bit of overdrive. I’ll wait for the reviews to come out, but nice job Fender. This almost makes up for the Gold Foil basses(recall those, seriously).
Henry Rollins once said that the rhythm section of U2 sucked.........I like Henry and all but he doesn’t play anything, it was such an absurd thing to say.
Nice amp, and I'm a 100% with you Adam, NO TWEETA !!....It's a bass, people. And thank you for reminding Fender that Bass Players Lives Matter..LOL...; it's been more than 40 years since Fender made an all-tube bass combo.

@@damianopincolini9712 That’s exactly what me and Niall were thinking 😃
dont deserve a signature bass/amp
@@sebg2086 no you don't
@@tatialo37 i really dont.....but same thing for him....the root note king
Finally a combo tube amp for bass!
Guitarists should love it then, like the bassman and the musicmaster combo
@@jasondorsey7110 That's what I was thinking the whole time- would love to run my new jaguar through that lol.
Adam is a great and creative player. So underrated
Great taste in watches too. Bravo.
Omg this is the type of amp I've been waiting for! Thank you Adam and Fender!
We're just as excited as you are, Myka!
@@HLinc. how is it!?
This guy is a true legend and weirdly humble.. very punk rock
My favorite bass player and a very good man ! Love his playing style!
Always enjoyed his bass lines. U2 are great song writers
Came to hear the amp, stayed to learn something about arranging bass for different contexts.
If that harmonized bit between note and Adam's voice at 4:44 is intentional it has to be one of the nicest editing touches on UA-cam!
1 of the most underrated bass players ever
HAHAHAHAHAHAH hes no underrated....he do almost nothing
@@sebg2086 Fo "nothing" you mean play exactly what the music asks with competence, lot´s of great albuns recorded and THOUSANDS of suscefull live shows in decades? And how about YOU?
@@jcsk8 still dont deserve a signature bass....you have to be skill to deserve one...."he play what the music need" hahahaha wow
@@sebg2086 I think you missed his point. Are you saying music has to be hard and technical to be good?
@@flogginga_dead_horse4022 noo...but by right you should be skill to have a instrument in your name.....you miss my point
Such a Wise and Musical Man. Love him
What a great interview! Impossible not to love when passionate and talented artistry meets technology, good stuff!
Sounds great. Sort of like a Fender-Ampeg combination, best of both worlds.
adam plays to confines of the song, economical and nothing ever gratuitous. solid as they come
He is not a flashy player but he is highly melodic
Nice to hear Adam talk about his sound.
Make more signature amps for bass please
Another great example of bassists who works for the songs, is Mr Simón Gallup from the Cure, he has a lots of memorable great simple catchy to the 👂 bass lines
This is a beast, 50 watts tube, which is 400 watts transistor.I connected an 8 ohm extension cab in the back and it felt like 800 watts!!!... EXCELLENT AMP ADAM!
@Cory Rich as long as its an 8 ohm cabinet you're safe,I could just imagine the power with an extra cab..lol...ENJOY
Nice to hear you Adam🙏🏻
Why do I have a feeling this is going to be a great guitar amp.
Bass amps do make cool guitar amps
Mix that with a Strat and you’ve got something deadly for 2100 dollars
Yeah dude. Absolutely
for sure, as the fender bassman is
Could be a cool harmonica amp.
A great-sounding amp, and I love the look of the blue Precision bass, too!
What? The turquoise bass with the tortoiseshell scratch plate is a Precision Bass! 😆
The blue one is a P bass
Methinks the above comment was edited lol 👍🏻😁
@@joeseymour4073 Nope!
New year‘s day brought me to bass playing, I love this song so much!
There are players that make things sound better and others that just want to stand out. The great ones are the ones that go straight down the middle, like Adam.
O vídeo flui com as explanações de Adam Clayton. Tranqüilo e seguro, passa certeza no que está falando.... Credibilidade.
My dear Adam! You are a great musical treasure, l like everything you do...... Love you!
Adam, I used to have a long neck bass guitar many years ago and one of the first songs I learned was New Year’s Day. ❤
I always found the timing of that Bullet the Blue Sky riff so bizarre. It’s so effective.
U2 The Greatest Rock Band of all Time 🇧🇷🤘
Best concert I ever saw was the 1997 Pop Mart tour
Well, I've known about this for a while, but it just came true. Thanks Adam, I'll try that. 👍
His tone was great when he used the ABM Evo amps. I got one back in the day and have been using it ever since.
Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! I need to hear and see my heroes live again!!!! ASAP!!!!!✌🏼✌🏼❤❤❤❤😍😍😍😍
If I am to list my top 5 bass heroes, this legend is at my #2 or 3
Love the fact the looks like the hot rod deluxe but for bass, now just hope you guys bring it up in different colors .. :P
Oddly enough I picked up a Fender Bassman recently & have enjoyed playing my Jazz through it at band practice, great sound...I'll be waiting for this to be released here in Thailand...
I like his honestey and calmness when telling a story
Finally an artist not too high horsed to demo their own signature gear, pretty rare.
God this is so cool!!! He's very much 25% of their sound and makes it what it is so so much.
A great rig review by a great player. This is a very useful explanation on how a bass/channel combination works for a particular song and/or style.
Bro, I just got mine. It’s legit! I bought it to replace my Ampeg SVT rig for gigs and I’m not looking back! My body thanks me! Haha
Henry Rollins once said that the rhythm section of U2 sucked.........I like Henry and all but he doesn’t play anything, it was such an absurd thing to say.
He said that because he is a Liar.
@@joeseymour4073 LOL, yes as we know it came from his mouth.

WONDERFUL man WONDERFUL base player. Fan since 1985🤩🤩
He is sooooooooo cool
Glad to know y'all did this! Definitely need that amp lol
Nice amp, and I'm a 100% with you Adam, NO TWEETA !!....It's a bass, people. And thank you for reminding Fender that Bass Players Lives Matter..LOL...; it's been more than 40 years since Fender made an all-tube bass combo.
Adam congrats you play great I have been listening to you since I was 16 and I still follow you. Hope u come back to Mexico City!
So glad to see this. Adam Clayton was a big influence to me and certainly for many bass players.
Love listening to Adam rattle off his famous bass lines in isolation
