She and her baby are polite, demonstrably glancing toward the food, and emaciated.
While it’s not advisable to give money, it can be very gratifying to occasionally spend $1 to buy lunch for a new friend.😃

@@Regular_Guyph two men (race withheld for fear a woke mob would show up outside my house). They had a gun. It was in a parking lot. They put me in my car in front passenger seat. One drove and the other sat behind me with the gun. They robbed me, kept asking for my ATM password, took my winter coat, looked for weapons and discussed killing me. Drove around for 30 minutes until they found a secluded building where they parked and searched my trunk. They left with my wallet and car keys. Called the police. They couldn’t believe I lived. My family picked me up. Went to police station and looked through mug shots. Saw two high school classmates. Not surprise. They were trouble in school. Case never solved.

I admit I haven't been down that way ever but I've never seen any trouble at bus stations like that. That looked to me to simply be guys who hustle at the stations, trying to get you to take their or their friend or cousin's trike or taxi. They get modest tips for putting foreigners in their cabs. They also offer to carry luggage but Scotty had none. No more monied foreigners incoming so they were leaving the station also. You see this across the Philippines. I know it can be unnerving the first time but I did not see any danger in what happened there. Not sure what "Polling up" means in the Philippines. First I heard that expression. Have you had problems in the Phils in broad daylight on bus station grounds ? I haven't in 20 years other than annoying guys insisting on carrying my luggage in which case a firm "No" takes care of it. I complained to a taxi driver in Cebu and he said "they're my brothers. If we don't let them hustle and give them tips, they will turn to crime.". How I deal with it is just tell them "I have friend waiting in his car here to pick me up. Sorry." and maybe give them a 20 for trying.

    Just a quick general comment
It might be advisable to heed the warnings that the followers here are giving you.
I saw a BBC documentary a few years ago about the terrorism in the Phils and the team went to a hotspot, I think it was Zamboanga, and needed a military guard of 12 guys because the head guy said that otherwise they might outgunned.
They ended up cutting the visit short and piling back into their transport because the area was known for kidnapping and executions, sometimes by hacking to death with machetes. And the dudes in the streets there were giving the same vibe off as the looks you are getting from some of the people. As you know by now you are seen as being "American" and not too popular with terror groups.
I think that you are more at risk in Mindanao except for Davao of course.
Just be more aware that not everyone is "Great People" and ransoms from kidnapping of tourists is a major income source for some sections of society everywhere in the world.
    Have a great trip.

Fixers are illegal. NBI advertises to report them so they can get busted. Be careful. Everyone calls that city "GenSan". It's famed boxer Manny Pacquiao's home town. Not sure what route you are taking to Valencia and Malabalay but I sure hope you are on a first class bus via the Bukidnon/Davao Highway aka "The BuDa" highway. That probably means going back to Davao Ecoland Bus Station. It's a stunning drive . You will be bouncing from one side of the bus to the other to take in all the spectacular mountain views. You will of course want a good charge on the camera. Some of those buses actually now have a USB built into the seat (Back of the head rest - or was it the back of the seat proper, in front of you), so you may want to be the first to board and ask the ticket guy to find you a window seat with a working USB because of course half them don't work. They have unisex washrooms too but they often have a line up for it. Bring your own toilet paper. They stop at large road side rest stops with restaurant and washroom. Careful to take your bag and ticket stub, as they are known to just drive off without all passengers,, I could never figure out the system. I think its: Take off , scare the shit out of you ,then stop a block up the highway. No "All Aboard" warnings .. nothing. They pull into major cities once you get up the highway a few hours but lucky you, that is where you are going to anyway. Enjoy. EDIT: I'd also recommend getting a very early bus, even while it's still dark like 5 AM. Not as crowded on the bus and you won't spend your first hour and a half snarled in stop and go, rush hour, Davao traffic. You don't really get going until you pass Mintal and Toril.

You will get the vibe from her if you are her property to protect you from harm. A good Filipina will protect you from harm and guide you around. Nothing scarier than being left abandoned in her hometown if it does not work out. play it safe at first. This is what I did when I meet my wife for the first time. I really get mad when children are carrying toddlers around in the streets to beg. It is well organised by adults. I would wish that the Government would take care of those kids and protects those babies from being exploited like that. Such a shame to see it.
I lived for a long time in Constanta, Romania, and sure, they carried babies around in the traffic there too, but the baby was carried by an adult female. In Digos they use children as young as 8 years I guess, according to their looks, to slave for the adults, carrying small toddlers with them.
