- Clavichord, Italy, late 16th or early 17th century (17.1796)
"Four Variations on 'Watch My Cows' " ("Quatro diferencies sobre 'Guardame las Vacas' ") from The Six Books…of Musical Tablature for Playing Vihuela (Los seys libros…de musica de cifras para taner vihuela), 1538, by Luis de Narváez: performed by Darcy Kuronen
sounds almost like a mix between a banjo and a harpischord
Very well said!
Has that rustic yet classical sound to it.
This clavichord sounds weird, not right for me. It indeed sounds like a banjo lol.
Wow.cool
Banjo is a good dog name.
Clavichord is not.
Sounds good after 400+ years! It restored well. Thanks for sharing this rare instrument.
It sounds like shit lol.
@@melzlink4100 Sorry, shit doesn't make a sound
@Ryading Panaakalantayan I'm sorry if i offended you, but this instrument does sound terrible. just hear ua-cam.com/video/JNuk6XZNcpM/v-deo.html, i don't know if it is a stringing problem, a construction, restauration, of the player, or even recording, but here this instrument sounds terrible and one just has to hear other clavichords to notice.
Ummmmm
Hey thanks for the link@@melzlink4100
An amazing ancient clavichord still working very well! Beautiful and very interesting music. 🎶🎼🎹🎵
"Watch my cows"? Catchy title.
Now Launch the Cow.
moo
Hold that cow for me, will ya?
Magnificent clavichord. Thank you for sharing
I once made a copy of this instrument. A very prominent figure in the early music played it at show once. When he was done he asked me what it wad based on he told me it sounded just like the original. High praise indeed !
That's me lady fair's jam! (Seriously, very beautiful playing *&* a fascinating instrument!) 👑
This is amazing! I wonder why they don't make reproductions of these cool instruments, as a classical pianist I'd love to own one for my own enjoyment (to play Bach, Haendel & maybe some Haydn on my spare time at home), I love being immersed in vintage artifacts, history & culture.
Thanks for posting this!
They do! Look up the Harpsichord clearing house for some used ones or Zuckerman or Hubbard Harpsichords in you want to buy one new or build one from a kit.
@adamhufnagel9721 Oh wow, I had no idea they did that. I'm from Rhode Island and there are 2 amazing & huge piano & other wooden instruments shops less than 5 miles from me, they also sell beautiful scores with their original covers (which I'm always collecting from my favorite pieces) I never seen a harpsichord there and maybe that's why I assumed they didn't make them new. Now, I'll have to keep it on my bucket list (Christmas is coming soon, too 😆). Thank you for your lovely reply! 😊
@@Michelle6998832 You're very welcome :)
the lid painting must have been very striking before it faded. Instrument sounds great, sometimes people associate clavichord only with the 18th century so it’s good to hear a significantly earlier incarnation.
Very cool. Sounds great even after all this time. Thanks for sharing this rare piece with us! 😀
Ese sonido me encanta ..que instrumento tan hermoso .
Good to hear this important clavichord.
This dude is probably a beast on the guitar.
Beautiful 🎉🎉
I saw a lot of harpsichord and ancient instrument in the "Castello Sforzesco" in Milan
So peaceful... 😍😍
Guardame las vacas (watching the cows). Luis de Narváez, composed for vihuela de mano (16th century Spanish alternative to the lute, tuned alike but shaped like a guitar).
Sounds fuller on vihuela though still quiet. A keyboard would allow for more florid variations. The style of Tomas de Santa Maria would be appropriate and lovely.
I built a copy of that instrument. My sounded just like the original. I sold to a very lucky guy in Ohio. I should make another one!
If this instrument were in tune it would sound amazing. I prefer the clavichord sound over harpsichord it sounds way more mellow.
Woooowwwww🤠🤠🤠🤠🤩so so best and AMAZİNG 🤩
It sounds terrible
it sounds nice@@Wolfganger
Una volta in Italia si producevano cosa fighissime... Adesso siamo al terzo mondo...
For me it's like a time machine 😍
Magic sounds..
Pretty cool
Renaissance- clavichord
Baroque- harpsichord
Classical- piano
Not true really
Julien Baugmatner should restore tha painting in that cover of the Clavichord
well OBVIOUSLY it should be Julian Baumgartner
The degree of restoration, or if it should be restored at all, must be very carefully considered. The lid painting is a part of the whole instrument. A restoration of just the painting may cause it to look very out of place with the other patinated / soiled (let’s not debate semantics and meanings of those two words...) parts of the instrument.
Is this the famous Tosi clavichord? Where can I find out more about it?
Tiene un sonido bastante metálico.
I like clavichord
I'm here because I'm reading 100 Years of Solitude and they keep mentioning this instrument 😅
Reminds me of a guitar.
Ahh yes. Some days I too will wake up and dust off the ol' clavichord and play some ripping tunes for my mistress(es).
❤
Clavichord hand technique to improve a little more...
Stop whining you big baby.
COOL
Only 1590's kids will remember this, like if you agree
anyone else have their music teacher send them this-
No, we're not idiots. We came by ourselves.
i love it haha sounds like a Spanish guitar almost. very cool.
Sounds like a gutiar
What a treasure!
Banjo with extra step
This music is giving me the urge to steal a sweet roll and fight the World-Eater on the plains of Sovngarde
You know, I was thinking the same thing.
It's a string instrument :-D
How much does this thing worth?
How much a clavichord or this one?
Maybe $50 to $80k...?
@@mercoid I would say this one worts more, 500k? 300k?
Sounds like the start of stairway to hevean.
Wrong
@@Wolfganger holy cringe classical music nerd
@@lukasmurdych1698 Ah yes, because I’m not entitled to have an opinion and say I don’t like the sound. That makes me a “nerd” does it?
Doesn't sound like a piano 🤔
Great for Joy Division songs ...
It sounds ok ig
Alright
doesn't sound nice in my opinion
Sounds like farts.
@Julius Roth i mean dont try to speak with this kind they are low level lame trash
lighten up you muppets
Something's not working right on this thing, if the sound of good modern reproductions is any indication. I wonder who did the restoration.
It's probably working just as intended. Equal temperment wasn't exactly an old thing.
@@Burntshmallow It's not the temperament but the attack and decay. Maybe it's just the design, but a lot of energy is being absorbed somewhere (I suspect the felting). Check out Norberto Broggini's videos of himself playing original clavichords in the Mirrey collection, keywords "clavichord" plus: 'original Hass'; 'original Hubert'; 'original Mirrey'. That will give you an idea of what an original instrument can sound like.
@@AndSendMe It's probably just the recording device, clavichords are notoriously difficult to mic.
@@dank-temperedclavier7005 and yet poorly mic'd phone or camera videos don't have the same problem. Clavichords are also notoriously difficult to set up, and there are even fewer people who know how to do that well.
@@AndSendMe I totally agree A- This is a bad instrument, B-This is a bad player, C-This is a bad restoration.
