  • Buckle up, Off Grid Family, because the past two weeks have been a whirlwind of adventure, growth, and unexpected twists and turns. From the sweet hum of busy bees to the soothing rhythm of planting in our food forest, join us as we navigate the highs and lows of life off the grid.
It all started with a buzz-literally. As we welcomed a package of honey bees to our homestead, we couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement and anticipation. With careful hands and eager hearts, we set up their new hive, ready to embark on this new chapter of BeeKeeping in our off-grid journey.
Just as we were settling into our beekeeping routine, a tornado tore through our town, leaving destruction and chaos in its wake. While the storm wreaked havoc on our community, we were incredibly fortunate-our homestead was spared, with no destruction and hardly any wind. It was a stark reminder of the power of nature and the importance of standing strong in the face of adversity
But even in the aftermath of the storm, life on the homestead pressed on. With determination in our hearts, we turned our attention to the land, planting blackberries in our burgeoning food forest. Meanwhile, our progress on the solar tracker continued, inch by inch, panel by panel. As we worked tirelessly to harness the sun's energy, we were reminded of the resilience of renewable power and the endless possibilities it offers for sustainable living.
And amidst it all, we found moments of joy and connection, from crafting seed packets for the upcoming Self-Reliance Festival It's these simple moments of togetherness that remind us why we chose this off-grid lifestyle in the first place.
So join us, dear friends, as we embrace the buzz, weather the storms, and continue to grow, thrive, and forge our path forward. Together, we'll navigate the twists and turns of life off the grid, one bee-filled, berry-planted, solar-powered step at a time.
    Keep Growing

Wow what a beeeezy week 😂 couldn’t help it! Can’t wait to see how the bees do. I hope the festival was a great success! How amazing that your hard work grew the plants that provided the seeds that were shared during the festival and will be grown in other areas at other homes. I think that is an absolutely beautiful thing! Much love friends. I’ve prayed so much this week specifically for those impacted by the tornadoes. I’m just thankful that no lives were lost!

The dome is so spacious!!!! Love they layout and I think I’d do the same flow seems very good use of the space!
Having the bed elevated will be great in the winter with that wood stove…
Bees 🐝!!!!!! I and so happy for you guys.
Hooray for the ONLY homesteading/off grid channel that shows the reality of the process with each little step along the way that leads to a beautiful sustainable ‘big picture’
That helps the community so much and helps people to succeed when they do it themselves, because they won’t be shocked it’s not what they saw on these other channels who make everything look like an immediate dream.. So kudos for showing us all the hard work it takes just to be there!
You guys have come so far this place looks amazing.

Thank God for no loss of life! But man, that is a lot of damage. Those big beautiful trees ... ugh. Wouldn't it be nice if someone could come in and mill up those trees for building material? That had to be some powerful winds. So sad.
The seed packets are lovely. What a nice idea. I'd love to buy a packet of those sunflower seeds for my small, sunny backyard in the city. One grew in a plant pot I had on my back deck (3rd floor apartment) I cut the seed head off and hung it up for the birds; they loved it. I typically have a few tomato plants going on. Gotta have garden tomatoes and basil! The two front gardens are all about curb appeal with bulbs, flowers, and a few shrubs.
The dome is coming along. The layout works. If you get that many tornadoes, maybe you want to think about building a shelter out of stone or cement. Have a stairwell inside to the left of the door. It doesn't have to be big. Maybe leave a blowup mattress down there for the nights when tornadoes are expected. And you could use it as a root cellar. Something to think about. I'm glad you got out of this unscathed. 🙏

every time i see you guys now your smile is getting bigger,
it shows that you are growing and learning and closer and closer to success and happiness.
its sad to see your township hit hard by the tornado, i always wonder why people build homes tornados can knock over .
they should build out of hempcrete its a much stronger building product, and is probably the only building product capable of withstanding a tornado.
    but we live and learn.
hempcrete is finally being discussed in my state in Australia as a building method/product for fire shelters and maybe even entering the building code for those who live in fire prone areas because hempcrete doesnt burn. it may still take a couple of years to implement but its way over due.
    so happy for you guys

@@OffGridGrowing i discovered it about 10 years ago but now its a topic that is accepted in Australia and its only a year or two from becoming mainstream as its now allowed as long as engineer says its structurally sound there is no other road blocks here, and there are many different ways to use it. you can go for the spray on which is great for abnormal shapes in your building or round domes , or the building blocks that resemble lego the size of large limestone blocks but you can pick them up with one hand. and build the main structure in under a day ready for roofing which is an American company which is the first to do that , or you can press it like rammed earth all very strong all virtually all weatherproof. and if its completely round its tornado proof for there is nothing for the wind to grab. its amazing stuff its what i want my house build with and like your dome there is no need for weight bearing internal walls so it has endless possibilities .
just be warned its a deep rabbit hole of goodness once you start researching the options , just remember the hemp is very cheep its the labor that costs keep that in mind .
