Had to do a couple of takes on this video. That unfortunate words kept on popping up. Is this something that you are willing to pay for? Do you think the price is justified? Am I the only one that thinks this is crazy? Let me know your thoughts. And please remember to like share comment and subscribe. Cheers ❤
It's only 6 years because they are getting 100 + Euros for it now. If they doubled the maturity to 12 years they could never get double the price. Thanks for the review Gert.
I’ve just watched this video. I’m glad you mentioned retailers ! I’m of the same opinion. They are conning us. I’ll bet they hike up prices of whisky they’ve already bought before the price rises came to fruition. Retailers certainly have their part in being greedy.
Hi Gert, I know we discussed this a bit earlier on, but I'm still surprised of your surprise, if I may say, as it is for a long series of years, at least here in France, but also abroad as I've seen crazy prices in UK too, that Kilchoman & other brands do charge a lot for limited releases, part of the price tag being (people often forget) the distributor's margin & often, alas, I knew it thanks to my previous ambassador's cap a decade ago, the price that the distributor buys it from the producer as a pro is way less than the RRP, and sometimes over 2 times (& we're not even talking about high end products, as these can be just tools to make maximum profit for them). That said, this is also why we enjoy your reviews, because you made the choice to try before you buy for you but also for us, and even if we can have different taste all over the world & in EU only too, it gives us an idea & it's then down to everyone to decide if they think it is worth spending all that money for it, or not… Like I said, alas, for some Kilchoman releases, here, some distributors here have even asked up to 220 € for a 5 yo because it was finish in a Caroni rum distillery cask + CS, and considered by the shop as a collector's item because bottled exclusively for the 60th birthday of La Maison du Whisky in 2016. That "Cognac cask Matured" doesn't have the excuse of being bottled at Cask Strength, mind you, and is still sold here for 115 € ! (other limited releases are over 90 € too). So I'm not happy with these pricing, but what worries me even more is when indie bottlers also increase prices of what usually was supposed to be good value alternatives for us regarding a lot of distilleries (ok, not often those young ones, mind you). Where the producer is guilty though, is when he decides to bottle in vast majority 4 to 6 years old liquid because 1/ he knows it's good at those ages & it will sell well & with quicker time profit than bigger brands with old age statements 2/ hence he deliberately don't store many casks to mature longer than that 3/he refuses to give any age statement except for some rare limited releases (otherwise we could have a 18 yo now maybe ? (but at what price, I don't even wanna know). So, yeah a useful review ! Cheers !
What a fantastic and thought provoking comment. There are so many factors that contribute to the price modal and I do get it. But when I saw this I just flipped. And it is just not this one I keep on seeing more of these stupid prices. I did a poll and in the poll I was surprised on how many people said that they don’t care about what it cost if it is something they like. Well my wallet cannot keep up with that. Lol. Cheers
Yes. Somebody has to gold the line and it ain't Kilchoman. I want to love it, and i do but at the end of the day these are young and expensive.. The funny thing is that if money was no object then we'd be drinking Macallan or Dalmore and splashing it on the floor. Reality is that 200-250 is the the top price range for interesting whisky. Unfortunately thats alot of money and remembering the days of buying 2/$100 makes the rational decisions on value very unpleasant these days. There are some good ones around but sometimes you have to compare to Springbank LB 2021 prices and take a gamble. Samples would be nice, but that doesn't happen in the US.
I am glad to know that I am not the only one that thinks the prices are getting out of hand on these special releases. Aka so young that it just meets the minimum standards…..lol. I might look at a 200€ bottle if I only buy 2 bottles a year. I have way too many open bottles. I am very happy to buy samples. This channel is costing a fortune to keep going. You might consider sample exchange in US. I see a lot of UA-camrs do that. Appreciate your feedback. Cheers
@@WhiskyLoversSociety I just saved myself $120. There was a 6 year Independent Ardnamurchin in a sherry cask that I was watching on a website for a month or 2. I missed the $89 official Cask Strength so I figured this would be a nice addition to my collection. But it's gone now. 👍. $90 for young cask strength from a new distillery is to much, I paid that much for a Wolfburn Langskip, and it's really young so I'm trying to learn from my mistakes.
@@jackthepickledhound I am sitting with a Sample of Ardnamurchan AD 02.22 cask strength 58,7% abv in my hand when I saw your message. Review will be out soon. Paid €7,50 for it.
@@jackthepickledhound Ardnamurchan just released AD sherry edition. 50/50 peated/unpeated 50% abv mix of px and oloroso matured. 15.000 bottles. Enjoy 👍😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
It is fully matured in ex-Cognac for 6 years from Bossuet Cooperage in France. That's got to be worth at least 50 euro extra....LOL. I'm a sucker for a good Kilchoman so I had to pick it up at 83 euros on sale. Kilchoman seems to have a knack for yummy young whisky. I say it is far superior to the 3 year old Octomores that are going for triple that. Bad example maybe but it is a fun dram. Take care my friend. The bubble is starting to burst and we will be awash in Springbank before you know it. :)
Her Gert you right , Kilchoman not chip whisky ))) new realase heave price 118 , 123 ,128 euro .... But i very love this whisky and buy limited realase ) Last time whisky very expensive , need started drink VODKA )))) Like. Slainte !
After watchin this video I decided to buy a bottle of it, I love most all Kilchoman visky. Price here in Iceland is fair, tax and margin on alcohol in Iceland is high but its calculated from alcohol % only, not on the purchasing price so more expensive Visky benefits from that law. cheep vodka, not so much. Can´t wait to taste it.
I got the bottle yesterday and couldn´t wait to taste it, I really like it, Like all Kilchoman I feel it has a lot going on there. Reminds me of my home in north Iceland@@WhiskyLoversSociety
My opinion is that retailers have a huge part to play in inflatiing prices. They need to be taken to task. Springbank , hazelburn, and there’s more , all are ridiculous prices and need looked at. Shop around and see the difference in retail prices for certain whisky. It can be dramatic.
Absolutely agree with you. Sometimes I get a bottle cheaper in Africa than in Europe. Taxes is killing us in Belgium. But the secondary market is to blame as well. Cheers mate
Thankfully there are still quite a few affordable and realistically priced bottles. I know it´s not really your taste of whisky but I never paid more than 50€ for an Ardbeg 10 for example. It´s just a shame that the high prices limit our willingness to check out interesting new whiskys.

Sad but true story mate. All in it to make money and we are the fuel to this madness.
Its a good whisky but the price is a slap in the face to us consumers. 35-40euro for nas whisky seems right. Good video. Cheers from sweden.
So true. But obviously people are buying it so it will not stop. Appreciate your support
