- We're talking about HOW to save money as an au pair in Paris. After actually both managing to save a decent amount as au pairs, we have some tricks up our sleeves to help you out! However, don't think this is going to be easy - it's very very hard to save in one of the world's most expensive capitals.
As an au pair, your essentials are paid for - hoorah! This is one of our top reasons for becoming an au pair in any new city.
However, you'll have a small weekly salary which will come to around €80, depending on how lucky you are. So, what do you do with this money?
A great way to save money includes putting that cash directly into a bank account. But, if you don't have a bank - try JUST taking out the money you need for the week and keeping the rest in your sock drawer, never to be touched.
You'll find that to save money, you need to get creative. Either by tracking everything you spend and only drinking espressos, or you could also try to make money on the side. Options could include babysitting, serving at fancy host family parties or walking dogs.
However, don't forget, this is YOUR YEAR to live in the city. SO, don't make a similar mistake to us and forgo fun experiences to save those extra pennies. Although it certainly helps save money, we found we'd occasionally be too stingy and miss out. As always, moderation is key.

how do you let a family you are talking to know that you are also communicating with other families? and how do you decide which family is the one you want?
Just let them know with all honesty that you are trying to keep your options open. As far as knowing which family to choose...you must feel in your heart that it is the right option. I know, super cheesy! But at the end of the day, 90% of your time abroad will be with you host family, so they should be people you like!!

Au Pairs tend to get paid about that much every week, so as you are getting a great deal! The only thing I'd suggest is making sure that your host parents are paying for your insurance!
