Funny enough I just went to the range tonight to test out multiple 5-shot groups for 5 different *cheap* target ammo brands, including Frontier (albeit not the 68 gr BTHP tested here). I also shot *1 round of each at a time in the same order* to try to control for barrel temperature/etc. They were: 1) Winchester 5.56mm 55 gr Target & Practice (aka “white box”) 2) Monarch .233 55 gr FMJ (brass case); this is Academy Sports' in-store brand; manufactured by PPU in Serbia and repackaged 3) PMC Bronze .223 55 gr FMJ- BT 4) Federal American Eagle 55 gr FMJ 5) Frontier 55 gr FMJ The key takeaway was that the Winchester white box was unquestionably *the worst* for accuracy. The rest were close, but the edge went to Frontier, which was just barely better than Monarch (which is crazy because Monarch was the cheapest out of everything). And even then, I could have been the reason for the small differences between the 4 good brands. Moral of the story: I'm going to stay away from Winchester white box. Too many other brands that are as cheap (or cheaper) that are just that much better.
Frontier/Hornady also makes a 556 version of the 68gr BTHP Match. I tested these against each other and against 4 other match grade 223 & 556 and the Frontier 223 68gr BTHP came out on top multiple times. Far far better than the 5.56 version which was surprising. Even better accuracy than 70-77 gr weight range cartridges. Sig Spear 5.56 16” 1:7 twist
What are you asking that ammunition to do? In my case it's is for home defense. A 55gr FMJ is a round that is lethal at 300 meters. At least that's what my Drill Sargent told me. In a home defense situation you are usually 7-12 feet from the intruder, a 55gr FMJ traveling at 3000fps will eliminate the threat. Hit him in the torso and the shock to the system might be enough. Plus it's a light rifle with a 16 inch barrel and a 10 round magazine no recoil.
Your knowledge, imagination, ammo expectations and known capabilities begin and end with what your drill sergeant told you? 😂🙄 Aren’t you the gun aficionado… You might want to expand your horizons a bit.
@@paramounttactical I served in the 70's we had 300 meter targets for qualification with the M-16, when did you serve and what rifle were you trained with.
@ricblic901 lol, my guy. Let’s see, I went to recruiter a couple days after 9/11. As an Infantry Recruit I also qualified out to 300yds with an M16A2. Upon arriving at 101st, I qualified out to 300 meters with an M4, 240B, M249, M2 50cal before deploying for the invasion into Iraq. During the invasion I move to Scout Sniper Section and attended the first Sniper School held in a combat theatre and qualified on an M24 out to 800 meters both day and night as well as the M107 Barret and finished out the deployment as a Sniper Team leader. When I got back to garrison I went to Special Forces Assessment and Selection and went on to become an 18B (Special Forces Weapons Sergeant) where I qualified or trained on at the armorer level on every weapon in the NATO inventory from there I was assigned to ODA 1323 at 1st SFG where I did 3 more combat tours and never mind that I went to multiple armorer courses for items like the remote weapon systems, Mk44 mingun, and many more SOCOM issued weapon systems. 🤷♂️
The video on rumble glitched out and I’m having to reupload. I’m not crazy about spending thousands of hours and thousands of dollars of personal money building a channel only to have YT threaten to take it down. It’s also a lot of fun to go from a channel that has 22K subscribers that gets 150K views a month to a channel that has less than 1K. I’ll have the video uploaded as soon as I can. I’m sorry you’re inconvenienced. -Gary
@@paramounttactical It's a shame that you have to go through all this extra effort and time away from your already full schedule due to UA-cam's capricious and unpredictable actions. Hang in there, and those of us who find value in your contributions will hang in with you.
I don’t trust frontier at all. I run tons of Winchester m855s and federal fusions out of my Ar and ruger ranch. Never had any problems. I use the m855s a lot on hogs ik fmjs aren’t ideal on animals but they work great
Dominic, I apologize. I uploaded it and from time to time a video will glitch out on Rumble and not play. The only fix I’ve found is to delete and re-upload. I uploaded the full version before the YT one and unfortunately it glitched. 🤦♂️ I’m re-uploading now. It’s a real PIA. Should be up and running by 4pm EST. -Gary
I watched the entire video, but you failed to show what kind of accuracy it's getting. I can buy AAC 77 grainers for 14 dollars a box and shoot a little over 1 Moa with a criterion core barrel, but I've used the 68 grain frontier and it will hardly hold a 2moa sized group no matter what I do.
But wait… There’s more! Another video coming. I’m going to accuracy test it as well. Just about anything with low SD is going to group well. You are right, we don’t know for sure until we test it. I will definitely check out AAC 77gr and test those as well. Thanks for watching. -Gary
I would also recommend AAC, I along with many others on forums and reddit have had great results at a bargain. They have 75 and 77 grain. The 77 has been a bear to get in stock as the popularity has risen.

Loving the content - thanks for sharing all of the intel.
I'm thinking I saw this stuff in 75g at Cabelas recently. I could be mistaken.
They do make it in 75gr. I just couldn’t find it anywhere. Would love to test that.
I've learned that anything over 55g Flies off the shelves, and I personally, have only found it in 68g. Anything higher than this is "Out of Stock!" 🙄
Frontier makes a 75gr bthp also, I handload the 68gr and 75gr hornady .224 bullets all the time and both are accurate.
I didn’t see the video on rumble and I’m not crazy about the results not being given here.

And it’s annealed.
That’s if it don’t blow up on you. They had alot of problems out of that stuff a bit ago.
