The @saucony Triumph 22 is Saucony's latest update to their wildly popular Triumph line. This time, however, they've added PWRRUN PB! The same peba foam used in their superstars: the Endorphin Pro 4 and Endorphin Speed 4. How does this super-foam make this shoe ride? Watch to find out

I have the triumph 20,21 and now 22. Like you said if you have not run in the previous versions it’s a great recovey/easy day shoe. I have the speed 3 and pro 3 but i know that those shoes are different shoes so i did not compare to that. The thing people was looking for and compare it to i think is the versitail triumph 21. In that shoe you had the durability, recovery runs, easy runs, long runs with some goal pace in it, tempo runs and still got the protection 😊
With that said triumph 22 is not a bad shoe i use it in my rotation because i have alot of shoes for my typs of runs 😅 if you think from the brands mind, it’s maybe better if people buy 3 shoes instead of 1. Before you could buy triumph 21 and be happy, now you should look att ride 17, triumph 22 and speed 4 as an rotation🫣
Great comment. Yep! It seems those who have run in previous models feel a little let down because the shoe has changed in its use case from v21.
You're also astute to point out the intent of Saucony for people to build a rotation because now the Triumph can't do it all.
I find the ride 17 as the updated version of triumph. The 22nd version uses powerrun pb instead of powerrun plus.
Good observation! 🙌🏽
I’m more interested in these than I thought I would be Matt, I find the speed 4s are too soft for me and not enough energy return.
The Triumph 21 are also just a little bit too soft for me, only just mind you, so I had just about given up on the new Saucony range (Perigrins aside). So these 22s seem like a possible.
@@mawilliams777 I’m not sure about the energy return being better in these, but they’re certainly a little firmer than the Speed 4, so maybe that translates to a feeling of responsiveness.
Triumph 20 has better energy return and is 2 onze lighter.
Ride 17 seems much more like what you want. It has 8 mm drop as well ❤
Just looking at it.. you know it's for a big guy with wide feet. It is built like a tank and should be used by one. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.
I hadn’t thought of it that way. You’re not wrong!
I only have version 18 ( 3rd pair) and enjoy them. I find that I actually prefer a more responsive (firm) feel to most of my shoes. I have the speed 3 and the Kinvara Pro and reach for the pro more often. These sound like my kind of shoe. May pick a pair up after my current ones are in need of replacing.
Good plan! I’d say the T22’s firmness fits between the Kinvara Pro and the Speed 4.
I honestly think the Triumph22 is an very great update, sold the 20 and 21 in masses, and the 22 does - in my opinion - everything better.
excited about the durability too... the Triump20/21 are known to be absolut tanks, lets see how it goes with the pwrrun pb.
Great review!
As someone who didn’t run in any Triumph before this one, I think this is a solid shoe. It’s comfy, protective, and looks good. People only complain because they want this shoe to be something it’s not. 🤷🏻♂️
Great info on the shoes, Matt! My take is that Saucony is getting off too easy. Customers who like their shoes and made reasonable assumptions about what Triumph and Pwrrun PB meant might well feel hoodwinked by this model. It could be that blasting them for caring enough about the products to know that much is genius marketing on a level that's way above my head, but I think they botched the messaging here. I'm a lowly techie but I've met a few ex-business owners who blamed their failures on stupid customers, and it's a poor consolation. As for the shoes themselves, I'm leaning away from this kind of thing and towards lighter weight and more ground feel. I'm not in any way delicate and there aren't huge impacts at the easy pace of most of my running, and I'm willing to trade this kind of comfort for a better connection with the ground and less wasted effort.
I like your take, Eddie! In fact it seems I have bought into the "blame the customer" fallacy, as there is no way marketing the PWRRUN PB aspect of the shoe was unintentional. Even so, it's a fine shoe and will work for a lot of people, as long as they're not expecting (what was promised(?) by Saucony).
@@its_Matt_B_ Thanks Matt. Ultimately it'll sink or swim on its own merits and most of the buyers will never know about this latest Internet tempest in a teapot.😁I've had enough great experiences with Saucony to believe that it's an excellent shoe for what it is.
PWRRun, PWRRun+, PWRRun PB. It just keeps going!
It’s clearly a lucrative model! 🤑
I didn't yet run in this model. I guess I prefer slightly firmer but responsive over soft and mush. Original Speed 1/2 PWRRUN PB formulation was a bit firmer than Speed 3 for example and I liked that over the one in Speed 3. I am hoping that v23 loses a bit weight over this model.
Losing weight is never a bad idea, when it comes to daily trainers! I too like slightly firmer and responsive over too soft, but I actually liked the Speed 3 over v2. 🤷🏻♂ So, I guess I like a softer firm than you! 😁
@@its_Matt_B_ Maybe I am a bit heavier than you and extra firmness balances out. After about 250 miles in Speed 1/2, PWRRUN PB became quite soft and unsupportive so they had to be retired at 300 miles.
Sometimes, brands make theirs shoes with more weight, more or less responsive versus the last generation. Asics and Mizuno did that with the super agile Gel-Nimbus 24 and Wave Sky 6 , that at today's standards, they were luxurious daily trainers. But then came the Gel-Nimbus 25 and Wave Sky 7, and that brought bulky, super comfortable shoes, but no longer agile, lightweight and fast. Saucony just did that this year with their Triumph.
For the good or for the bad it keeps happening with many icon shoes like Nike Pegasus, Mizuno Wave Rider , Brooks Ghost , etc.
Perhaps the brands are doing their market research and they're hearing that people want these big luxurious trainers? I can't imagine that's true...
@@its_Matt_B_ I think it is because the same shoe is targeted for a variety of users, runners and non-runners. I think they should at least consider a less plush upper for actual runners, especially for those of us in warmer climates (Texas, Florida etc.) Glycerin does that. It is far cheaper to have a different upper version than a complete new last or design.
@@TolunayOrkun Yes, spot on and well thought out. A lighter upper would be a great way to go, but I tend to think most people (runners and casual wearers) would opt for the lighter upper if given the choice.
Do you feel that the Triumph22 or the Guide17 would feel closest to how the Shift3 runs?
I haven’t run in the Guide so can’t say. What I can say is the T22 rides nothing like the Shift 3.
Probably Axon is the closest to Shift in design.
Thanks for the review of the endorphin shift fou.. I mean Triumph 22 😉
🤣 If that’s the case, Saucony did an amazing job. The shoe went from nothing to being everything in this version!
Well, no need to watch the rest of the review, the thumbnail says it all. Just kidding. The reviews of this shoe have been a mixed bag.
As usual, the mixed bag is due to unrealistic expectations. Those who thought the T22 was going to be like the Speed/Pro 4 were setting themselves up for disappointment.
@@its_Matt_B_ That makes sense.
Matt, how is the forefoot rocker? I like a shoe that rolls and takes pressure off the ankles.
I don't think it's anything to write home about. The rocker is there, but it's hardly noticeable, but then I would say the same thing about most shoes in this class.
@@its_Matt_B_ thanks as always Matt👍
I haven’t tried them. Have the 20s w about 500miles. I’m not a fan of the extra bulk I’m seeing. :(
They’re not very lithe, but this type of daily trainer seldom is.
Still im into superblast! King of daily trainer!!!
We won't go wrong sticking with the SB!
SB is in entirely different category. It is called super trainer. So, there is classical daily trainers, premium trainers and super trainers. Each coming in entirely different price ranges.
@@TolunayOrkun i know, just expressing my opinion
@@TolunayOrkun I'm finding the classic daily trainers are edging closer to the premium daily trainers.
@@hinayoufaka We all are. No issues. Take care!
Hmm if Saucony uses the same foam name it should have the same formulation as the Speed and Pro. Give it a different name like "Power run Boring" or something 😂.
🤔 They may have tried naming it that, but the marketing people would have shut them down! 🤣
just buy the 20 or 21 at discount and be done... hehe
...and then pick up the 22 when it's on sale next year!
