- Former Labor senator Stephen Conroy has urged Labor to be “very careful” in prosecuting the case against the Coalition’s nuclear plan.
According to a poll conducted by the Lowy Institute, 60 per cent of Australians support nuclear energy.
“Labor needs to be very careful,” Mr Conroy told Sky News host Caleb Bond.
“It can’t just … take the view that might’ve been prevalent 20 years ago, which was nuclear disasters around the world are well remembered and there’s great risks with living near them.
“Labor needs to prosecute the case against the Dutton plan.
“The problem is, there’s not much to oppose at the moment because there’s no costing, there’s no technology being picked, there’s no confirmed sites, and there’s no percentage of power that is going to be included in the grid.”
We are sick of the clown show, we are voting ONE NATION OR RALPH BABET
One nation Really lol
@@user-gx8by7vv7m do you have a better idea? Pauline may not be popular amongst the clowns, but at least she cares about Australians first and foremost
@tlb2970 I like Pauline .. but Australia has changed 2 what we know and grew up with,
I believe we have many bigger issues in Australia now. .we are no longer that safe little country..
With the high amount of refugees coming into our country the problems that they are bringing with them
The ways of wanting to live in our Country but live as they did in thr old country...
We have a lot of different cultures and we have lived together happily...
But no longer are we even safe in our own country....
The youth crimes , the Palestine protestors they are not protestors ..as they are a dangerous hateful violent organisation..
No im not at all racist...
But these people are dangerous...and don't appreciate or respect our country at all...they don't want peace or 2 free anything at all...
Housing shortage high cost of living most people who are Homeless are Australian born ....not refugees.....
So I believe we need someone who can make a difference someone who are responsible and common-sense and Power
To tackle the problems big issues and that is why I trust Mr Dutton for a prime minister...if you care about Australia our children's future..our future as a Country....
He has experienced in many aspects...also he didn't want The Voice...
He turned out to be right about The Voice
Millions wasted...and our country has not been the same since....
You may not see it yet,
but Mr Dutton is looking at the same things most Australians are struggling with The Big Issues ....
So I believe Mr Dutton is more capable,
@@user-gx8by7vv7m I agree with most of your comment but I believe Dutton supports digital id and W.H.O. TREATY whereas Pauline and Ralph Babet are totally against it
@tlb2970 yes , but on the balance of things well articulated above by User, Dutton is far better placed to deliver on Australia's needs than any one independent or minor party.
Nuclear is too sensible and helpful to Australians. If it screwed Australians out of land and wealth like renewables do, Labor would be all for it.
Nuclear is way worse then renewables.
It requires LOTS OF WATER to run it and we DONT HAVE WATER
Exactly 100%
You are a COMMUNIST>> the Best of the Reneables are chaaper than ALL other options .. You want to block the free market like any commie... Dutton wants the govt to run the Reactor.s.. Like in the old USSR... renewables are private founder and run

No it isn't. All this posturing about being a good person we do is disgusting, time to wake up and be strong, make hard choices for the betterment of the future generations.

Why does it cost me up to $100 per WEEK to heat my home for my young family in winter? What sort of society have we created? My elderly patients can't afford that, so they go without. They sit freezing in their homes, often getting sick and ending up in hospital. Energy should be cheap in Australia. Not to mention housing, education, and food. This society is completely screwed now. This is the life we all have to live now under Labor and we hate it!

In the 60's I could see the Lucas Heights reactor from my bedroom window and never had an issue with it. I don't have 3 eyes either.
I would have thought Labor would have done the exercise and at least costed nuclear installation. But then, they never costed renewables.
Nuclear was costed, last year, by the CSIRO as twice as expensive as renewables. Which was also costed, way back in 2022. Not albos fault you can't read.

How much is renewables costing the taxpayer's ? Labor won't provide the costings either.
The few figures they provide donot include the huge amount in subsidies for solar or to energy companies who are already raking in more since Albo came into power
Politicians have to be threatened before they will act in the interests of the poeople 😢
The everyday person is beginning to take an interest about where their power comes from. Yes Stephen, everyone wants whats best for the environment, which is why so many favor renewables. But theyre also starting to understand, that they alone cant sustain the whole grid, and that Nuclear is the most viable long term solution. Especially with Australia having large Uranium deposits and plenty of space for a waste facility.
Renewables are destroying the environment!! Do some research on the placement and installation of wind turbines alone!! Virgin forests that haven't changed for millions of years are being calved up, along the Great Dividing Range!!
With the current purging of our country's resources going on we will be lucky if theres any coal gas uranium left for the Australian people in 20 years time
@@timothyjackson6191 Where did you get those figures from?.
@@daniellebcooper7160 do you think that Australia has a endless supply of coal gas and uranium? With the rates and volume of resources being ripped and exported I think it's obvious that the future looks bleak for the people of AUSTRALIA and our country's future,no more coal at Leigh creek no gas in Victoria etc etc etc
Renewables are worst for the environment actually, look at what they are doing with solar and wind farms bulldozing through protected areas everywhere, they are an expensive and unreliable bush fire hazard that produce very little energy for the huge area’s, maintenance and cost they require.
When labor resort to simpsons episodes for their cartoon 3 eyed fish scare campaign...you know they're desperate and panicked
Wow!! Three eyed fish...they shouldn't have any trouble seeing my fishing lures then...well guys I've got the fishing gear packed and now I'm off to the coast to do a spot of fishing, with these three eyed fish around it shouldn't take to long to get a bag full...see ya👍.
Very easy to understand why labor doing the scare campaign
Like the dogs the small size dogs barks a lot to scare others but in contrast the large size dogs don’t they take actions instead of useless barking
Conroy is such a biased shrill, I wished Sky would stop hosting him.
Conroy says there are no details,,,, where is Chris Bowen's details on how much his renewables have and will cost,,,,he is very short on detail and intelligence??
Sights Had been selected.
Energy security has been a forefront concern for more than 20 years. The 'old' infrastructure is past it's planned lifetime. It is time the politicians woke up and started serving Australian's as a whole. They need to work together with an open mind. I believe, we need multiple sources for power generation and storage.
We just spent a weekend at our friend's farm not far from Beloela and the Callide power station. They are all for the Nuclear upgrade, and tired of Labours failing expensive renewables hoax.
We need a recall facility to remove corrupt, compromised people like albosleezy
whats the best bang for buck $2B in Battery storage or Gas generation
I have yet to find anyone now in favour of renewables now that our power bills are going through the roof. Everyone now knows that the high price of energy has been caused by expensive renewables and Labor.
Money talks, bullshit walks.
Why are we waiting for the next election I agree with one of the comments it time for the governor general to step in and get rid of this 💩 government
I agree, but our new woke GG that Albo picked to save his job won’t be sworn in until July 1st, Albo also just gave her a $240,000 pay rise before she has even started on top of her $495K/annum, she calls Australia Day - Invasion Day & I don’t expect she will be the saviour we all would like to sack Albo and his team of Labor morons.
such a labor hack this stephan "Con"-roy, note the con. Dutton has stated the locations as to replace existing end of life power stations. In terms of costing labor has never done this either and this is very early on
The coal stations are not at end of life, they just need normal maintenance like any other machine, shutting them down is a net zero decision, we need to seperate ourselves from the Paris Accord, UN & WEF.
Conroy was one of the committed nuclear stoppers way back. The questions he posses can't be fully answered until the ban is lifted and meaningful costings can be developed. Not that meaningful costings mean much to Labor.
Murdoch has suddenly learned about risk management ?
What risk? The rest of the world can use it safely...didn't labor order nuclear subs? That's OK but? Don't be daft
Candu,,, and albo hasn't released his renewable cost estimate....3 years in...
when someone snorts or grins abnormally they are typically hiding a discomfort to the question or a forthcoming mis-truth. Both here.
Stephen was actually letting someone else speak for a change, wow. He raised some fair questions that didn't seem overly idiotic for a change - is he ok?
Whichever way, Labor will be dragged kicking & screaming to the best option... energy-dense nuclear. Unfortunately for Labor, AlboSleazy's relentless impersonations of Pinocchio will render their endless bleatings dead on arrival, regardless of merit.
Labor risks evicting itself from decisions regarding development, placement and technology used for nuclear power
So many resources shipped overseas! Give us the gas ect., we want and need!
Stephen Conroy defending rubbish as usual with little to no idea about anything. Labor through and through.
It’s simple sport. Coal is best. Gas is fine. Nuclear will be used to keep the lights on 24/7 .
So nuclear will shut the stupid naysayers up. Hopefully when people see how much better nuclear is we won’t need wind and solar.
How much will nuclear cost and when will it be ready?
@@JamesJonahJameson-cp6xr In the long term, far less than renewables. As to when, well if we don't get started, then never. The sooner we get started, the sooner it will be ready. BTW, how much will it cost to build adequate renewable infrastructure (considering FULL replacement every 20 years or so) and when will it be able to power the country on its own?
Short answer - an awful lot, and NEVER.
Same amount that said no and abo-nese has tried to ignore that so he will ignore nuclear
New design coal power stations are the best solution
Costings on renewables ?????????????

How can we talk nuclear we have to have are referendum first

@@alanw8552hydro geo baseload with intermittent renewables on top is by far the cheapest, safest and easiest pathway possible. I challenge you to prove me wrong.
When you look at the cost blow outs on some of the current reactor projects elsewhere and the actual contribution made by nuclear to total energy mix for some of these countries and combine that with the report that the cost per megawatt of electricity to consumers wont be realeased by the coalition until after the election, I cant help but compare the plan to a boat made of barbed wire paddling up a certain creek at this stage. Presumably they are serious about providing real evidence with their costings...that's going to be a difficult sell because there's no unequivocal evidence I've found that there's any real advantage to the country in general.
Looks like we got ourselves a Conboy😅.
Albo is very wise to be against Nuclear
Spent nuclear fuel, occasionally called used nuclear fuel, is nuclear fuel that has been irradiated in a nuclear reactor (usually at a nuclear power plant). It is no longer useful in sustaining a nuclear reaction in an ordinary thermal reactor and, depending on its point along the nuclear fuel cycle, it will have different isotopic constituents than when it started.
Spent fuel pool at a nuclear power plant
Nuclear fuel rods become progressively more radioactive (and less thermally useful) due to neutron activation as they are fissioned, or "burnt", in the reactor. A fresh rod of low enriched uranium pellets (which can be safely handled with gloved hands) will become a highly lethal gamma emitter after 1-2 years of core irradiation, unsafe to approach unless under many feet of water shielding. This makes their invariable accumulation and safe temporary storage in spent fuel pools a prime source of high level radioactive waste and a major ongoing issue for future permanent disposal.
Spent nuclear fuel stays a radiation hazard for extended periods of time with half-lifes as high as 24,000 years. For example 10 years after removal from a reactor, the surface dose rate for a typical spent fuel assembly still exceeds 10,000 rem/hour-far greater than the fatal whole-body dose for humans of about 500 rem received all at once.
Should be a good battle of leadership Who is a true leader 😅
