    Quoting from Wikipedia:
    1. Edwards left behind eleven children (three sons and eight daughters).
    2. Many of Jonathan and Sarah Edwards's descendants became prominent citizens in the United States, including Burr and college presidents Timothy Dwight, Jonathan Edwards Jr. and Merrill Edwards Gates. Jonathan and Sarah Edwards were also ancestors of Edith Roosevelt, the writer O. Henry, the publisher Frank Nelson Doubleday, and the writer Robert Lowell.
    3. His descendants have had a disproportionate effect upon American culture: his biographer George Marsden notes that "the Edwards family produced scores of clergymen, thirteen presidents of higher learning, sixty-five professors, and many other persons of notable achievements."

Yes... My parents lived to be 98 and had unusually good health in their senior years. There never had a flu shot or Covid vax. Or any in their life, except when they got on the boat to immigrate to the USA in their 20's. One smallpox shot, no others.
They very seldom had a cold, and rarely a flu of any sort. They had 12 healthy children, 45 grandchildren, & 92 great grandchildren. Most of their friends and relatives also lived long lives.
It does seem to me the more vaccinations we get, the more diseases we're getting. Especially cancer and auto immune diseases. This generation is being given vaxcines a very young age ( infants) and now we have autism and neurological problems.
Personally, my siblings and I got the polio shots in the early sixties, but not until we were four or five years old. Most of us got the mumps & measles and considered it quite normal in those days.
Since the Covid vaccines, most of my large family did not get any. Sadly, we know of many people who are now being diagnosed with " turbo" cancer ; finding it in stage four. Also many with heart inflamation and some sudden, unexplained deaths and heart attacks. I dont think these were vaccines in the real sense. They were made very quickly with no trials.
As a Christian, I believe each must make up his or her own mind regarding these matters. It's a matter of Christian liberty. I do not believe we should judge or condemn others who differ from our views.

How many parallel verses can we expect the listener to hear?
Can we learn something from Edwards about the degree to which and the way in which we incorporate the Bible into preaching so that longtime believers, including unbelievers and baby Christians, are addressed but not overburdened? (Based on an expository sermon 😉)

    • @yunowot
      @yunowot 6 місяців тому +3

Systematic theology and biblical theology are two different approaches to studying the Bible.0 Systematic theology is the practice of making statements about God and Christianity based on the entire Biblical canon.4 On the other hand, biblical theology studies the Bible with a focus on its history, the history of revelation and redemption.5 While biblical theology may give insight into a specific portion of scripture, it may not be the best way of building a doctrine since it may not give you all that scripture says on a specific topic. On the other hand, systematic theology can give you a very detailed view on a topic, but that view can be enhanced by providing even more context to the specific scripture which discusses a view.1 Biblical theology focuses on the progressively revealed storyline of God’s Word, while systematic theology gathers the texts and truths that accompany and are tucked into that storyline so we can gain more complete and nuanced insight into God’s mind.2 The discipline of biblical theology is just as important to the life of a church as systematic theology, and both are necessary to know who Jesus is, what the gospel is, and how to guard and guide our churches.3

The famous Calvinist Jonathan Edwards (who John Piper hugely admires) wrote:
"It is most just, exceeding just, that God should take the soul of a new-born infant and cast it into eternal torments."
    Jonathan Edwards
Calvinism teaches that God chooses who is elect and who is UNelect/reprobate **BEFORE** people are born and **BEFORE** they have “done anything good or bad, so that God’s purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls,”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭9‬:‭11‬ ‭
So if you are a consistent Calvinist you will believe that most babies and children who die go to eternal torture in Hell, because it was already decided before they were born - so the age at which they die is irrelevant.
    John Calvin wrote:
"By predestination we mean the eternal decree of God, by which he determined with himself whatever he wished to happen with regard to every man. All are not created on equal terms, but some are preordained to eternal life, others to eternal damnation; and, accordingly as each has been created for one or other of those ends we say that he has been predestined to life or death.”
John Calvin, The Institutes of the Christian Religion
Famous Calvinist A. W. Pink wrote: “God loves the elect and hates the reprobate.”
Calvinism teaches that God hates most people.
Dr. James White, another famous Calvinist, also believes in infant damnation.
But C S Lewis and John Wesley who were NOT Calvinists wrote about Calvinism:
“The doctrine of Total Depravity… may thus turn Christianity into a form of devil-worship."
    - C.S. Lewis - The Problem Of Pain, pp. 28-29
"You represent God as worse than the devil; more false, more cruel, more unjust.
But you say you will prove it by scripture. Hold! What will you prove by Scripture? That God is worse than the devil?"
    John Wesley
Notice: under Calvinism and the Calvinists’ wrong interpretation of Romans 9 most people are determined by God to go to Hell BEFORE they have done anything good or bad - so they are NOT going to Hell because of sin or because of how they respond to the Gospel. They are just going to hell because the Calvinist God made them expressly to go to Hell.

1 Timothy 2:4. “God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” So your argument is that is that because many go to hell, God doesn’t always get what He wants? What percentage? 50/50? 75/25?

    • @SpielbergMichael
      @SpielbergMichael 6 місяців тому

      @@michaelbirke6050Hello there friend,
May God bless you and your loved ones abundantly.
No, that was not my argument at all. Instead of putting words in my mouth and dishonestly claiming that was my argument, why don’t you honestly quote what I actually said.
In short, I said that Calvinists are crystal clear that God decides who is elect and unelect BEFORE they are born and before they have done anything good or bad/sin.
That means that most humans go to Hell for eternity and it’s got nothing to do with any bad thing/sin they do in life - because God’s decision to send them to Hell was explicitly made before they had done anything good or bad and had nothing to do with anything they did good or bad.
      That’s Calvinism.
And that’s why Jonathan Edwards said God sends babies to Hell for eternity (because what they do or don’t do in life is irrelevant).

      @@michaelbirke6050Hello again,
You asked me if I was one of God’s elect.
But you and I have a completely different definition of ‘elect.’
You believe it refers to those saved. I believe the Bible only uses the word in reference to service and it’s not referring to salvation.
Why don’t you watch these videos, which go through every occurrence of ‘elect’ in the Bible to see what it actually genuinely means according to the Bible:
      ‘Election Word Occurrence Analysis’
      and
‘ELECTION: it’s nothing like you were told’
      ------
Also, may I ask: are you the kind of Calvinist who agrees with the Westminster confession which states God determines ALL things which come to pass - i.e. ALL things that happen? This is what John Piper believes and he’s written and spoken many times that God determines every vibration of every molecule snd every movement of every blade of grass, and therefore of course: every sin.
I only ask that question because if you believe God determines everything (including who is saved and not saved) - then I don’t think anyone can truly answer your question about ‘are you one of God’s elect?’
      Please let me explain.
      Because:
If you believe God determines everything, then that would include God determining the people in Matthew 7:21-23 to think they were saved but in fact they were not. So if Calvinists are right about God determining everything, then they would have no way of knowing if they are one of those people in Matthew 7:21-23 who God has determined to think they are elect but in reality are not.
So Calvinists have no way of knowing if they are truly saved or not.
      -----
Also, if you believe God determines everything - can you explain why God determined for the huge majority of Christians throughout history (including me) to NOT believe in Calvinism???
      -----
Finally, why didn’t you address my actual argument?
Do you believe as Jonathan Edward did that it is just for God to send a newborn baby to hell if god example it died during childbirth and it was unelect???
Please explain to me how it is just to send a baby who has never sinned to Hell for eternity?
