Hey guys! If it wasn't obvious, at 9:59 is a clip of my cousins in New York playing Street Fighter 2 at a family gathering. Just wanted to clear up any confusion. I hope y'all enjoyed this story. This series has meant a lot to me in my life, as I'm sure it has for many of you. Happy Street Fighter 6 launch day!
Why are comments off in some of your videos? You are also so lucky your dad had a video8 camera the footage wouldnt look as nice if he went with vhs c or eveb vhs as those were mono and 2 heads. Video 8 could also fit 120 mins in sp mode were vhs c could not I have one birthday party tape of the 90s i should put it online.
They have actually been reactivated by UA-cam on all videos where they were once deactivated. This was a UA-cam policy with videos with kids in them. I had to appeal to their tech support
This is the main thing I miss about gaming back in the day. Not necessarily the specific games, but how it was a very easy way for people to socialize (in person!)
Kids these days don't appreciate ANYTHING. It's all been done, there no evolution or growth, literally everything has peaked. The PS5 is showing that as its not exciting at all compared to the last 4 consoles. Stagnation of tech is occurring: graphics look real, sound is digital, multilayer is 100s of people, there's VR, games are better than films. This gen aren't easily pleased. I remember thinking Ridge Racer 1 looked real 😂😂😂
We were poor and my dad went and bought a SNES and Street Fighter 2 when it came out. I have such great memories of being in awe at how cool the game was and me and Dad would just play all the time. Such a good childhood.
Great memories. For me, we had a family trip to visit my aunt in Manhattan. The weather was cold but the sun was shining. My dad bought a SNES and we played Street Fighter 2 as well.
I know. We had only one 14 inch TV. For the whole family in a trailer Playing Super Nintendo 🥸🌍🦖. Times were hard. Are dad once every month & a 1/2 would get us Pizza 🍕 while we played. Humble great 👍 memories 🙂
Street Fighter , and then Street Fighter II , that started it all and lots of clones of this fighting game series.... but the latest SFVI (a real gem)...,that's just confirmed that Ryu , Ken and other characters are from the best fighting video game Ever ... For ever and ever , with new generations of rising talented worldwide Stars players Champions alongside Daigo!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏👍
SF2 saved arcades, it brought in MOrtal Kombat and SNKs Fatal fury, Samurai Showdown and KOF series. SF2 was THE pinnacle of gaming, the Michael Jordan. Nothing will ever belike it
@@-TerryBogard it did , I was 12 and I use to go play SF , I won a few tournaments at the Alpha series as well. Really loved SF. I can't stand it now though , it's too complicated. I am 41 now 😂. My brain cannot process all those cancel moves and other crap.
Facts and I did the dumbest shit a kid could do at that time, I told the whole damn hood I had SF2 on SNES. Everybody was trying to spend the night every weekend but man those all nighters playing SF2 will never be replicated.
I know I was thinking the same thing only us who didn’t have these types of parents pick this up but to in reality it’s the normal type of behavior as most households are functional
@@xMorbidArtx I know…they were close or more than $1,000 way back then. But it was a great investment to be able to see yourself as a kid. I have one cassette tape with me talking at like 5 years old and it trips me out.
@@OutsideTheRopes yea, i envy people that were able to record some memories. The years me and my cousin spent constantly passing mario, dkc killer instinct etc are lost in memories 😞
Man, did this video ever just jog a wild story from my childhood memory: Before Street Fighter 2 hit the shelves in the US, it was released months earlier on the Super Famicom in Japan (the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo). If you lived in the US, you could buy the Japanese version of SF2 (hidden in the classified section of Electronic Gaming Monthly) but it came with a special cartridge adapter that you had to use in order to make the Japanese Super Famicom cartridge fit with the North American Super Nintendo. The Japanese version of SF2 cost $150 with the adapter which was an astronomical sum for a video game. I seriously don’t know how I convinced my mother to get it - I probably promised a lifetime of mowing the lawn, unloading the dishwasher and straight A’s. With the imminent release of SF2 in Japan, there still was not an announcement of a US release date on the Super Nintendo (trust me, I literally checked every single day at Electronics Boutique in our shopping mall), so while a US release was inevitable due to the popularity of the game, my 14-year-old brain didn’t want to take the chance that SF2 wouldn’t make it to North America, so I convinced my mother to get the Japanese version of the game for me. Sure enough, when it arrived, it was euphoria. It was the most magical thing ever plugging everything in, and seeing the Capcom logo and the SF2 intro screen on MY TV, in MY living room. What a rush. I even jerry rigged the family boombox into a surround system and hooked it up to the TV. I didn’t need quarters, I didn’t have to wait in line, I didn’t have to go to the mall, and because I had the Japanese version I was probably the ONLY kid for hundreds of miles that had SF2 in MY house. I hosted tournaments that lasted hours. Since everything was in Japanese, me and my friends had to make up in silly voices what the winner and loser fighter were saying to each other at the end of each fight. We didn’t care, it was so awesome and unbelievable that we were playing SF2 before anybody else. But then after a week, tragedy struck. The shitty ass cartridge adapter failed! The Life-force that connected the Japanese SF2 cartridge to the North American Super Nintendo decided it could no longer handle my Enter The Dragon multi hour fighting tournaments and like most cheap ass things, took a dirt nap earlier than expected. Like all things cartridge related in the 90s, I blew on it so much until I got dizzy and passed out. Nothing. To say I was f*cked was an understatement. I was suddenly stuck with a $150 doorstopper with Ryu’s face on it. Back then, there was no customer service to complain about something not working. If you bought something from another country, you simply assumed the risk. But I didn’t know how I was going to explain to my mother that she just wasted $150 - and trust me she would have noticed if I wasn’t playing the game or asking for my friends to come over and play. It’s literally all we were doing if we weren’t in school. So I sat there listlessly for several minutes staring at the cartridge and the cartridge adapter - and then something hit me like a ton of bricks. I grabbed one of my US Super Nintendo cartridges and compared it to my Japanese Super Famicom SF2 and I made a startling discovery… …They had IDENTICAL circuit boards. The ONLY thing difference was that the North American cartridge had 2 notches on the bottom left and right hand sides that allowed it to slide into the Super Nintendo whereas the Japanese SF2 cartridge did not have those notches. And that’s when I realized I was going to have to do the unthinkable… …I was going to have to put a hacksaw to my $150 SF2 cartridge and cut those two notches out. There was no other way out of this. After 20 panic inducing minutes, I had cut the crudest sloppiest notches into my immaculate SF2 cartridge. I had totally defaced it. I was terrified that my mother would see the cartridge after she had spent all that money on it. So I took the cartridge over to my Super Nintendo and I pushed it in. There was a slight resistance, but I wiggled it and then I felt it pop in - but the cartridge was definitely not level. There was a pronounced angle from left to right because my notches were hardly uniform. Not expecting anything at all I flipped the power switch… …AND THE MF’ING CAPCOM LOGO POPPED BACK UP ON MY TV!!!!!!!!!! I couldn’t believe it!!!! I was suddenly the Thomas Edison of my neighborhood. It’s hard to put into words being 14 years old and getting technology from another country to work with your own. I was ‘back online’ before we all even knew what getting ‘back online’ meant. Anyway, thank you so much for making this video and reminding me of what was hands-down the most magical/terrifying/magical moment of my video game childhood.
@@MyRetroLife i was surprised back then how close the port was to the arcade, it made me love my snes even more. the genesis port was no slouch! the voices were low sample and scratchy and the colors were a bit faded, but it was a good port. just not snes-quality. even the tg16 version was solid with great color on par with the snes. SF2 was the CoD of its time lol. im not interested in most other SF games today, not even the newest ones. after SF2 and MK1 and MK2 and fatal fury, art of fighting, world heroes and then samurai shodown? i was done with fighting games. kudos to those who still play'em and are good at them today.
To me, Street Fighter 2 is a reminder of a time when gaming MEANT SOMETHING! Modern gaming is largely soulless, bullies you into downloading update after update, not to mention all those in-crap purchases and games being released unfinished! If I had a kid, I’d rather let him or her play Custer’s Revenge than Candy Crush! That is how bad modern gaming has gotten! I even skipped the PS4 and only got an Xbox One because my Jasper 360 RRODed and my Mom insisted I did, instead of letting me just get an Xbox 360 E in the blink of an eye! It’s really sad when your parents don’t appreciate classic tech as much as you do! A lot of modern tech is one step forward four steps backwards!
Dude, you're not even kidding. The first time I laid my eyes on the Nintendo version of SF2 was at my friend's house. I first was watching them play in complete disbelief, and then it was my turn and man, it played flawlessly. I was so happy on this day. This video actually teared me up man, not gonna lie.
Yes, it was so faithful to the arcade game it felt unbelievable that super NES could replicate it so well. No more spending countless quarters at the arcade. Home console gaming high water mark for sure. This and Mk 2.
This actually made me cry. Especially thinking about your dad. Like a piece of you feels like its gone when he went from your life.... You had a great father...
i just saw the video, im tearing up now. i had the same memories, man, it makes me miss my dad, my friends. the awe and wonder of gaming back then was something else. thank you for sharing your life!
I think you can also see his eyes getting a bit wet when he’s talking about his father. It’s just those memories you keep for life. My mom passed away December last year and I often have so many memories that come up from time to time that make me not just miss my mum so much, but also those past times
I associate video games with childhood and my father as well. it breaks my heart when i see these games because it makes me think of my dad who passed away in 2017
Hey Chris, Key take away here is that Your Dad has given you golden memories. The fact that he played a big part of your life and you have these videos to go back to speaks millions of how awesome he was. I hope you have kids and can be that reference point in their lives.
you had to be there to understand how amazing this game looks in 1992 it was unseen at the time and those special moves no one really knows how they come out, no internet back then i remember walking 3 miles every day to my local mall just to play it 40 minutes
It's all true. I also went to my local mall just to watch others play. The previous game I watched there was pac-man, so the jump in the graphics was unreal.
I love that Tyler makes it feel like his dad is still here. His legacy is being presented by his son over & over again and sometimes I even forget that he isn't here physically anymore. But his essence and legacy has been and will be continued to be seen by hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Tyler made his dad immortal and I know he is looking down at him with the biggest smile on his face. With a webcam ready to record the day Tyler and him reunite.
I feel the same way. I guess every "movie" has it's good moments and bad. I guess I just hope everyone is as lucky as us to have great memories like "retro games" to remind them of the good times and cherish them.
Bro, your video transported me back to a wonderful time in my life, and I'm sure it did the same for many other people who follow your work here on UA-cam! Good times that unfortunately will never come back! A magical time that shaped our passions for retro games! Congratulations!
I remember back in 1991 to 1992 New Years Eve, back when we still lived in the Philippines. My parents are divorced we live with my Dad and my Mom lived in Canada. My Dad told me and my little brother to take an afternoon nap so we're not tired for the New Year countdown. He did not tell us that my Mom, aunts and uncles sent us presents. My Dad put it all on the bed with us. I remember waking up, opening my eyes and there's an Air Jordan shoes with my name on it, my bro has the Air Force. There's chocolates, t-shirts, sunglasses and an NES with multiple games. I thought I died and went to heaven!! Me and my brother were jumping for joy! What a New Year. It was an amazing feeling that I will never forget...
I could not hold back my tears watching this video. My dad took out a loan to buy me a PC back in the early 90s. I played SF2 on DOS and it was fascinating. To my dad's memory, I will forever be grateful to you and I hope that someday, I will be as good a father as you were to me.
This video took me WAAAAY back .... I remember my dad giving me money for a haircut, and instead, I went to ToysRUs and bought this game LOL. Needless to say, he wasn't happy about it but hey I took a BOLD chance at owning this glorious game. I miss my dad .... Great video as always.
@@adamdye3472 they were $10 plus a tip and he gave me a $50, and I had saved enough to just pay the difference. I was crazy like that. I remember buying Mike Ditka football for $20 on genesis before I even had the system, pops ended up buying the system afterwards. I was ambitious 🙂
@@adamdye3472 For real. One year my grandmother asked me what I wanted for my birthday so I told her that I wanted Street Fighter 2 for the Super Nintendo. I felt kinda bad because it was going for like $70-80 and I had never asked her for anything that much before, but I knew that I was going to play the living hell out of it.
Your dad was awesome. Imagine him on the plane reading about the game you love. Bet he was like: "Can't fking wait to get home to show my son this magazine" :D Even better, he bought you the game. What a blast! The joy you feel when your a kid and get something you only dreamed of... wish i could get that feeling back as a grown up.
I've been playing SF since the 90s. It got me into fighting games and that's mostly what I play. I just got SF6 and was playing until 3am, the game is amazing. I'm in my 40s now and I still love fighting games. The only thing that has changed is that I no longer have as much time to play as I did back then. I'm a father now, I've been teaching my daughter how to play fighting games and I'm happy to say she's as excited as I am for SF6.
Single dad of 4 full custody and im 38…just bought street fighter 6…and I’m going to play it on my steam deck instead of my gaming laptop…and yes it’s hard to game sometimes but it’s life…now I gotta squeeze working out with my hobby…and with 12 hour shifts weekend are more my jam.
While you guys are fathers, I’m childless and more like Ryu, been playing Street Fighter since Super Nintendo Street Fighter II as a kid and after watching Ryu destroy Bison in Street Fighter V when I completed story mode, I feel like my journey ended with Street Fighter. Now with Street Fighter 6 out, I didn’t buy it and am just watching videos of people playing it, it’s a game for a whole new generation, and my time with it as a 40 year old man now is done. I’m not sure if I want to try and play Mortal Kombat 1 because it’s PS5 exclusive and I don’t have a PlayStation 5 yet, and am debating getting it. Growing up does suck, but it’s a part of life, it just goes on.
My parents couldn't afford the ability to buy all the new games and systems. My family could also not afford a home recorder camera either. That being said they did their best to give me a great childhood. Seeing these home videos that are so close too moments in my childhood are amazing!!
It brings me back to Christmas 1994 I was 6 at the time and my dad surprised me with an SNES bundled with Super Mario World and Street Fighter 2 I was blown away that day. SF 2 on SNES will always have a special place in my heart so many great memories 🥲
@@Ishitonyou666 since i was like two years old to 12, i couldnt afford the games, me and my brother would cut out the pictures of all the games we imagine would be ours, we would collect the cutouts like almost like pokemon cards. One day my brother said to me why does it matter this is useless we will never have them. Turns out it would years later, our parents got us some videos games. But the sad part it was to late. The joy of games is going on the journey with your peers/friends when the games come out not multple years later. Im not gonna enjoy a video game at the age of 13 the same way i would enjoy it at the age of 7.
Watching this, it really makes me miss how christmas used to be for my family. Getting together, having a great dinner, playing video games and watching movies, man what I would do to go back
Im 44, and I'll always remember the Christmas of 1992 and getting an SNES with Street Fighter 2. Didn't think I would get it because it was so popular and sold out at most stores in my city.
Born in '75 so I really got to experience the coming of SFII in the arcades and it was a game changer for sure. Most of my friends were addicted to it and as soon as I got my SNES it was the first game I bought.
I was born in 78. I remember discovering the game at a birthday party at a skating rink lol. I instantly was inthrolled. Then when it came out in SNES! OH MAN. seriously getting that game home was better than losing my virginity.,,...,which ain't happened till years later 😂
Street Fighter 2 with the SNES was my Christmas gift that year. SF2 is still the greatest fighting game ever for the impact it had. My parents and my sister would all play it and have tournaments. It was great.
Was my xmas gift too either 92 or 93 cant remember. I actually found where my folks hid it before it was wrapped. I sneakily set it up in my room while they were out one day and then put it all back - had to act surprised on xmas day :D
Really brings me back to my childhood, thanks for this. Kids today have their heads down in screens and can’t carry a conversation without an emoji. Better times with friends when we appreciated getting that big game to huddle around on the floor and enjoy.
This whole video is literally summarized my childhood 😢 Hours and hours sitting on the floor with friends after school to master our moves and then head back to the arcade saloon to show off 😅 I just can't explain that feeling, everybody seemed happier. Life seemed easier and lighter than today. My 3 essential toys for being a cool kid those days: 1. My super nintendo 2. My walkman and mixtapes and 3. My bike 🥲
I just discovered your channel this evening, and I have to say, wow what an amazing gift your father left by documenting all of these incredible moments in time. I’m a 40 year old man (as of 2024), and feel like I’m right back in these moments reliving them as you did with your father and friends. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your enthusiasm for gaming and these wonderful memories. I wish you nothing but the best buddy 🙏
My dad used to rent the SNES system for me and my brother at a video store in Woodlake, CA and it came with a game. We would get SF 2 every weekend. It cost 9.99 plus tax for Sat and Sunday. It was 10.73 after taxes. Magical moments... 💪
Street Fighter 2 Turbo was my first home version of SF2 I got in 1993 and I loved it. The idea that there was so much replayability was amazing such as seeing the ending for each of the characters but different difficulty with different endings. There was even a special ending if you win at level 8 with no continuing and even one for never losing a round.
This game is special because like you say, it was a chance to play one of the greatest arcade games ever made in your own home, and what a fine port it was too. This is a feeling that you can’t get today. I am so glad I was there and experienced this masterpiece
My older brother (RIP) took me to the Coney Island back in the day and I was introduced to SF2. Next thing I know I come home from school and not only is it a Super Nintendo but a SF2 cartridge. Back then you only got shit like that on birthdays or Christmas. This was a regular ass Tuesday in the summertime so I was geeked through the roof.
That was an incredible time. In Germany, arcades were rare, and arcade cabinets were mostly found in casinos where kids weren’t allowed. My first experience with Street Fighter was on a Super Nintendo, and it was absolutely amazing. It’s really hard to describe the feelings we had as kids back then because nothing today even comes close. My aunt brought us F-Zero and Street Fighter for our birthday, and we went crazy. I’ll never forget that day-we played all night long. Then, when Street Fighter II Turbo came out, it blew our minds all over again. Who remembers the cheat code for the Mega Turbo mode? After the Capcom logo disappears in the opening credits, press Down, R, Up, L, Y, B, X, and A on controller 2. Those were truly great times. Today, I’m a game developer myself, working on games that I hope will bring back that same amazing feeling. Thank you for the great video!
Im from the uk and was holidaying in Florida as a 10 year old kid when it was released months before the UK PAL edition. My parents spent an ungodly amount on it for us at the time and to have that version at home using a converter was simply amazing
My uncle had this on snes, I just couldn’t believe I had this game at home. I stood in line for this game at the arcade. Still my favorite game of all time. Don’t know if I like the 6 button genesis version or snes better. Best fighting game of all time.
I was a Sega Genesis fan and didn’t own an SNES, but when the home version of SF2 was released, I bought an SNES. That EGM magazine ( April 1992 ) is my favorite issue because it also had the infamous Sheng Long April fools prank. I was a bit disappointed with the bgm, but the game was great and it helped me hone my skills. The 1990s was a remarkable time for videogames. 😊
I borrowed SF2 from a friend at school when I was in grade 6. I played it so much during the two weeks I had it that the tendons in my inside forearms were sore from smashing the L and R buttons for heavy attacks. What a revolutionary game.
I love this video. It's like seeing myself with my buddies. I also played streetfighter 2 for the first time. My best friend's father sold arcade games and he had EVERY game in the world. I felt like a kid in a candy store. We played there every single day from 1989 to 1997, that year his father died in a horrible car crash. Rip Roger.
We didn't get this in the UK till much later, so I asked for a Japanese import for Christmas on my SNES. I had to plug the cartridge into a converter so it would run on UK machines. It was £90 ($115) back then, which is £258 ($332) in 2024. Crazy!
I rented an SNES 3 times and only rented this game until I got one at Christmas. Played SF2: The World Warrior more than any other SNES game! Totally with you on this one brother. Thanks for the video Tyler!
Lived through the SF2 phase and every other SF game after that, now playing Street Fighter 6! How time flies by and the game is still as GREAT as ever.
I was 16. Every emotion you describe is spot on. Thanks to this video I was able to go back and relive those moments. Makes me a little teary eyed. Good job sir.
Having a Dad who’s just as excited as you getting/playing video games is a true blessing. Part where you said your Dad read magazine back to back on the plane is something I did as kid 😂
I remember the sleepless nights as a kid till I finally had Street Fighter 2..it was like dream coming true.😄Good times, Sega & Super Nintendo they dominated the game in the 90s 🎮
I don't know how much money I spent on the arcades playing this game but the best moment is having this game on my snes back then, I was 17 yo by the time, beautiful time period in my life
This brought back so many memories. Not just the Street Fighter, but seeing you and your friends hanging out in the den, kids coming to your door to sing Xmas Carols, a dad who traveled for work. Now I travel for work and my oldest just wants to play Roblox and occasionally hang out with his friends "IRL." I wish my kids could get a taste of what it was like growing up in the 90s. Thank you for the gold.
Good old days. SF2 competitions with winner stays on. At mine with family or at one my friends houses where the parents were cool with having a whole bunch of 8/10 year olds around. Best era to grow up in 80’s / 90’s. My first experience was SF1 on my Amstrad CPC464 and one of older cousins telling me about an arcade game called SF1.
I originally played SF2 at a bowling place and the cool thing is they had few arcades but they were all bangers: Robocop 2, Joe & Mac and SF2, it seems the kid of the owner of the place knew a lot about video games and he advised his dad what arcades to get. I must say I was blown away by SF2 because there wasn't anything like it anywhere, the first time I played SF2 at home was like getting a neo geo at home or at least that's how I felt.
Im so lucky I have an older Brother because he convinced our Parents to save up for Snes and to also get Snes,of course he went to Purchase himself because Parents wouldn’t know what to buy but she did it to keep is in the House but either way we chilled outside but later come with Friends and Play and she definitely regretted it buying it 😂but before that we had Gaming Magazine showing pictures of Street Fighter and Info on the Game,I knew right away I wanted to Pick Ryu before we got the Game
OMG. This is a carbon copy of my same experience here in the UK. i remember i came home once from Sunday School in 1992 and my Dad purchased the SNES in the Street Fighter II box EXACTLY like yours. The only difference was i couldn't capture it on camera. Love it bro thank you! ❤
Hits me right in the feels for my own personal console experiences throughout my gaming life. It can be seen in your eyes how you convey the awe that one experienced in such a situation.
Back in the days where if you wanted to play with a friend, you actually had to go to their house. Nowadays, it’s all online, which takes away that classic experience
Man, I was 10 years old in 92' and remember getting my SNES and Street Fighter II for Christmas. You talk about being excited, plus my Uncle bought me a game gear too? Happiest kid on Christmas morning.
This breakdown of the impact of the SF2 is absolutely spot on! I remember the feeling of awe and a miracle it was to get that arcade feeling at home! It truly was a special time!
I got my SNES and street fighter the same day. Just a random day in the fall of 92 or 93. Came home from school. Mike clean your room. So i did. Mike take out the garbage. I did. Mike did you clean your room? Yes i did. Did you clean under bed? I didn't. Fine mom. Knelt down to clean under my bed, and there it was. I was so happy. Thank you for the video. Brought back some good memories.
Im from 1987 and i bought the first Gameboy and still have it these days.. These were the good old days. I think 80's, 90's and early 2000's were the good times. Thanks for sharing these video's. Good old days.
Man this is the first video of yours I've watched and I've only started watching it but if you have documented these years by video throughout your life THIS IS AWESOME! So thrilled to see this, it's like food for the soul.
Sometime before the school year started in 1992, my dad took my older brother and I to the Toys'r'us in Times Square and we went to the electronic departments. I didn't even know what was going on until my dad showed me he was buying us an SNES with Street Fighter 2. Life was never the same after that.
The NES is classic but the SNES.............................................BREATH TAKING! Even now the controller fit so well in the hand with so many buttons, the colors of the games on a floor model TV lord have mercy the good ole days!
O’boy,,, your Dad is a legend, I must say the 90’s footage you showed brought back a sudden rush in memories that made me tear, I remember my Dad once went to Japan on a business trip in 1989 and got me a mega drive with couple of games ( the revenge of Shinobi ) was my best, in summer 1994 he went to the US and got me a got me a Super Nintendo with couple of games one of them was Street Fighter the other one was Super Metroid, because I didn’t know what was Super Metroid I decided to check it out as soon as the initial story ended I was hooked and that cartridge didn’t leave the SNES the whole summer, Love you Dad so much. Now a days me & my kids have a blast on these same old consoles, at my home I run a no online gaming policy, we set together in my office playing Sega, SNES & Nintendo 64 multiplayer games or we take turns. The bulk of fun on the Nintendo 64. God bless you Sir & your Family.
Dude. I subscribed so quickly after seeing this video. The home video footage was the best! Took me right back to the 90s. What I would do to go back to the 90s for a week or so. Thank you!!
This video has bought back so many memories. I’m from London and that was exactly as you described it, either you playing or watching in the arcade. Christmas’s 1991 was my best ever Christmas. I’m now 44 and look at the kids of today gaming, they never will never experience that hype. Thank you for sharing I have liked and prescribed 👌.
Man, this is such a great video and it's amazing to see that your parents got so much footage from back then. It's incredible to see and can't wait to check out more of your stuff!
I remember going to my best friend's house to watch him and his brothers play SF2 on the SNES. They wouldn't let me play with it a single bit. I didn't care, but I still never forgotten that.
really cool having old video footage of you as a kid as part of this video,, really makes me feel nostalgic also... such a magical time, its hard to explain to the younger generation just how magical it was.
You and I had a lot of similar tastes and experiences back then. Thank you for preserving all of this footage; I've lost almost all video of my early life, and use yours to wrap myself up in a nostalgia blanket. I like to think we would've been friends if we lived close.
Gaming is an amazing conduit for memory. So many moments of my life are framed by the games I’m playing. They help me celebrate the good times, cope with the bad, forge the best friendships, and make the most treasured memories. Your parents knew this. And your dad, I guarantee, was possibly even more excited to give you SF2 than you were getting it. Thank you for sharing, it was actually a very powerful video, and a pleasure to watch it. Best wishes to you 🙏
Gosh. I remember the excitement we had when my friend Andrea told me his dad bought a Super Nintendo with SF2 , i remember there was a bundle for Christmas for it. After all those years, we were like 12 years old, spent playing the Coin-Op, it was a dream coming true. Andrea was my best friend when i was kid, now he's dead, but i'll never forget that sunday i slept at his house and we played SF2 on Super Nintendo all night long. I'm greatful i saw the history of gaming and of internet under my eyes. A Gamer is forever. RIP Andrea.
Man that was me. I came home from school on my pushbike and sitting on my bed was a new SNES SF2 edition!! I was so happy and all the lads would come over to play.
Getting SF2 fresh out of the box and in your hand was truly a glorious event in my life. Thanks for bringing back the memories! It was a great investment and saved money from feeding the arcade.
Ill never forget my brothers friend Jeremy renting this gsme for SNES. We took a break, went to the mall and watched some kids play it at the arcade. I told him, lets go back home and play it. What great memories.
Dude, why you got my grown ass crying like a little kid? Great video. I couldn't afford to buy it at first but I rented it A LOT. Whenever I had it at my house I had like a dozen of my friends over. At 12 years old I wasn't able to get a regular job, so I took a ton of baby sitting jobs and was finally able to save up to buy my own copy. That was one of the best days of my life. What was even better, is that I got my dad to sit down and play with me. He wasn't that good since the last games he played were on the Atari, but I appreciated that time he spent with me. I'm sorry that your dad is no longer in your life. He seemed awesome. Mine still is despite multiple bouts with cancer. Every time that I see him I make sure to give him a big hug and tell him I love him because I never know when it will be the last time. Thank you for sharing this video. I gotta go blow my nose and wash off my face now
I was born in 1981. I miss my friends and those videogames times...I cannot believe sometimes I used to hide or reject friends to come to my home, because sometimes they just dropped by unexpectedly to play videogames now life is so different. And special thanks to my dad for his efforts and literally sacrifice to buy me the Nintendo and SuperNintendo. I love him for this and for all the wonderful things he game me in this life. :)
What music genre is your favorite?
@My Retro Life do you remember the day when the Channelview F4 Tornado happened?
Why are comments off in some of your videos? You are also so lucky your dad had a video8 camera the footage wouldnt look as nice if he went with vhs c or eveb vhs as those were mono and 2 heads. Video 8 could also fit 120 mins in sp mode were vhs c could not I have one birthday party tape of the 90s i should put it online.
They have actually been reactivated by UA-cam on all videos where they were once deactivated. This was a UA-cam policy with videos with kids in them. I had to appeal to their tech support
@@MyRetroLife we love you, thanks for the memories.
Kids today will never know what it was like sitting on the floor at your buddys house enjoying great games
I actually really miss that experience. Even as an adult! We should still game this way.
I still do it at my 47 Yo 😅

Yah bro, his pops seemed awesome.
@@awee5816 Damn bro, sounds pretty harsh. I hope you no longer have to live in a trailer and are doing fine.
You cannot underestimate the impact Street Fighter 2 had on our generation. It was THE game of the time and the high watermark of the arcade era.
I got all the watches from Seiko haha. Love this game.
Mortal kombat soloed sf😂
The day I got Street Fighter 2, I stayed up all night playing this game. I'll never forget that memory.
Hell yeah , those were the good old days 👍
Facts and I did the dumbest shit a kid could do at that time, I told the whole damn hood I had SF2 on SNES. Everybody was trying to spend the night every weekend but man those all nighters playing SF2 will never be replicated.

I got “too sick” for school !!!!! And played all day after i felt “ better “!!
Absolutely, no more looking for quarters for the arcade.
Man you’re parents are amazing for documenting so much of your childhood on video. Not many people have that for that particular era.
I know I was thinking the same thing only us who didn’t have these types of parents pick this up but to in reality it’s the normal type of behavior as most households are functional
Those big cam corders were expensive
It wasnt cheap to own these cameras lol

Bro this video makes me cry on how video games were the biggest part of our life growing up. 😢😊
After school 🏫 cartoons - the Simpsons as well. Lol 😂!
Yes brother,I cried too
Man, did this video ever just jog a wild story from my childhood memory:
Before Street Fighter 2 hit the shelves in the US, it was released months earlier on the Super Famicom in Japan (the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo).
I grabbed one of my US Super Nintendo cartridges and compared it to my Japanese Super Famicom SF2 and I made a startling discovery…
…They had IDENTICAL circuit boards. The ONLY thing difference was that the North American cartridge had 2 notches on the bottom left and right hand sides that allowed it to slide into the Super Nintendo whereas the Japanese SF2 cartridge did not have those notches. And that’s when I realized I was going to have to do the unthinkable…
…I was going to have to put a hacksaw to my $150 SF2 cartridge and cut those two notches out.
Not expecting anything at all I flipped the power switch…
…AND THE MF’ING CAPCOM LOGO POPPED BACK UP ON MY TV!!!!!!!!!!
That's an amazing story! I could almost feel like I was living it myself
Still S-Tier. Even the SNES version is still one of the best video games of all time and still super fun today.
It really is such an amazing port when you consider what they accomplished in 1992.
Its the worst fighting game ever
Facts 💯
Dude, you're not even kidding. The first time I laid my eyes on the Nintendo version of SF2 was at my friend's house. I first was watching them play in complete disbelief, and then it was my turn and man, it played flawlessly. I was so happy on this day. This video actually teared me up man, not gonna lie.
Yes, it was so faithful to the arcade game it felt unbelievable that super NES could replicate it so well. No more spending countless quarters at the arcade. Home console gaming high water mark for sure. This and Mk 2.
I biked to my friends house for an hour each way every Saturday and Sunday afternoon just to play SF2 and other games on his SNES. Good ol days
It was as we used to say ‘arcade perfect’
This actually made me cry. Especially thinking about your dad. Like a piece of you feels like its gone when he went from your life.... You had a great father...

I think you can also see his eyes getting a bit wet when he’s talking about his father. It’s just those memories you keep for life. My mom passed away December last year and I often have so many memories that come up from time to time that make me not just miss my mum so much, but also those past times

To have kicks like that and snes in the Philippines now is unbelievable but back in ’91 - ‘92 is God tier ❤

This video hit hard. I lived through this EXACT experience as well and I can't even express the impact SF2 had on me as a child and gamer.
Street fighter arcade machines made millions of dollars in the 90s and im from the caribbean .
I could not hold back my tears watching this video. My dad took out a loan to buy me a PC back in the early 90s. I played SF2 on DOS and it was fascinating. To my dad's memory, I will forever be grateful to you and I hope that someday, I will be as good a father as you were to me.

We should start a league for 40 & up fighting gamers. Lol.

Street Fighter 2 with the SNES was my Christmas gift that year. SF2 is still the greatest fighting game ever for the impact it had. My parents and my sister would all play it and have tournaments. It was great.
Same here. When I think of Christmas, I have two which stand out. 1991 Megadrive with Sonic and SNES with SF2 in 1993. What a time to be alive!!
Was my xmas gift too either 92 or 93 cant remember. I actually found where my folks hid it before it was wrapped. I sneakily set it up in my room while they were out one day and then put it all back - had to act surprised on xmas day :D

Got this for Christmas with the super Nintendo, cheers my man.
My bike 🥲

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your enthusiasm for gaming and these wonderful memories. I wish you nothing but the best buddy 🙏
You took me back to my childhood. Definitely unforgettable memories in the arcade playing ST2 and then playing it at home.
Yea same! First game I bought on my Sega Genesis (well, I bought 2 technically) was Street Fight 2 Tournament Edition and Joe Montanas NFL Football 94

Felt like I had the arcade in my house that first Christmas. Magical memories
I don't know how much money I spent on the arcades playing this game but the best moment is having this game on my snes back then, I was 17 yo by the time, beautiful time period in my life
Yessssssss beautiful memories ✌
I 100% agree that owning a snes and this SF2 game did seem like we had a Neo Geo game system lol 👍.
I remember the hype of that game! I didn't have a game system at the time 😮💨
Im so lucky I have an older Brother because he convinced our Parents to save up for Snes and to also get Snes,of course he went to Purchase himself because Parents wouldn’t know what to buy but she did it to keep is in the House but either way we chilled outside but later come with Friends and Play and she definitely regretted it buying it 😂but before that we had Gaming Magazine showing pictures of Street Fighter and Info on the Game,I knew right away I wanted to Pick Ryu before we got the Game
This game blew up in the summer of 1991 and helped make fighting games, especially 2D fighting, what they are today
Best days of my life. 2nd miracle was killer instinct. Awesome time.
Thanks for bringing me back to the good old days, I miss our childhood, best time to be a kid was around late 80's and 90's
We had the best childhood back in the 90s. ❤️. Im glad that we had the same feeling abt Sf 2 even if im on the other side of the world
You, my friend, were at the final stage fighting against M. Bison. That was the soundtrack from that stage!!
O’boy,,, your Dad is a legend, I must say the 90’s footage you showed brought back a sudden rush in memories that made me tear,
I remember my Dad once went to Japan on a business trip in 1989 and got me a mega drive with couple of games ( the revenge of Shinobi ) was my best,
in summer 1994 he went to the US and got me a got me a Super Nintendo with couple of games one of them was Street Fighter the other one was Super Metroid, because I didn’t know what was Super Metroid I decided to check it out as soon as the initial story ended I was hooked and that cartridge didn’t leave the SNES the whole summer, Love you Dad so much.
The nostalgia is hitting hard right now. It feels like a lifetime ago. Almost nothing more than a memory of a dream.
I got this in big bear ca. a store had it on the shelves a month early. It wasn’t supposed to be on the shelves.
Street Fighter II was also my first SNES game. It was definitely my 90s childhood, thank you for bring the memories back to me.
I miss my friends and those videogames times...I cannot believe sometimes I used to hide or reject friends to come to my home, because sometimes they just dropped by unexpectedly to play videogames
now life is so different.
And special thanks to my dad for his efforts and literally sacrifice to buy me the Nintendo and SuperNintendo. I love him for this and for all the wonderful things he game me in this life. :)
Thank you so much for this, I actually cried. It took me back to my childhood in the 90's
