Thank you very much, I truly appreciate it. Let me know if there are any games from Atari to OG Xbox that you would like to see covered, and if I have them I will make a video. Thanks again and have a great day.
Whenever I upgraded always kept my old consoles my Nintendo is about 34 years old now still working. Strider on Genesis was an excellent game.(I was a Super Nintendo fan)
Yeah I did the same thing, and so far my consoles still work. I swear things were made better back then. I was team Turbo Grafx16 all the way but, in reality I was a double and triple agent. I secretly liked the genesis the best and I liked some SNES titles like a link to the past the best.
@@paulclinton6414 best bet is q-tip with a small amount of rubbing alcohol on it to clean the pins in the cartridge. Very small amount lol. That what I had done forever and it seems to work well.
Sonic 2, Streets of Rage 2 and Shinobi 3 are all excellent looking games. Not many 'fx" for the sake of doing "fx" - just great color use and art, sprite size and detail, multi-layered backgrounds and nice animation throughout. Plus, they all perform great, with hardly any slowdown. All of Treasure's stuff is great too, of course. As far as Konami games, IMO Rocket Knight Adventures takes the cake, thanks to the huge sprites and great color use (the areas where I found Contra: HC and Bloodlines to be a bit lacking). Some of the later Western developed games really pushed the "fx" side of things - stuff from Zyrinx, Clockwork Tortoise, Traveller's Tales, Shiny, Factor 5, Appaloosa, etc. Panorama Cotton proved that you could simulate respectable super scaler effects on the Genesis. Skitchin' is probably even more impressive, though not as attractive. Modern days devs are doing amazing stuff with the ole Genny, though of course, they get the benefit of dev tools that are light years ahead of that they had 30 years ago.
Those games you mentioned are some of the best! I am always impressed how they make the new games for the old consoles. I tip my hat to the people that are creating these games nowadays.

@@RetroPoweredGaming , well, though those are good games, I think that you got to recognize Paprium, Demons of Asteborg, and Astebros on this list, along with Mazin Saga Mutant Fighter (even Castlevania: Symphony of the Night's/Demonic Castle Dracula X: Nocturne in the Moonlight's sprites are not as fluid as the sprites that are in Mazin Saga Mutant Fighter, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night/Demonic Castle Dracula X: Nocturne in the Moonlight is a video game that is on video game systems that are on hardware that is twice as powerful as a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, so that is a VERY impressive feat for Mazin Saga Mutant Fighter), and Pier Solar and the Great Architects (the ending of that game is kind of a very dark downer, perhaps one of the biggest downers, not just in an JRPG, but in ANY video game ever). The Genesis is my favorite system ever, so I agree with the Amiga ports. But, I haven't played the Amiga back then, I did not know any one with that. Everyone I knew after 1985 had NES. It would have been cool to play some of those originals.
@@RetroPoweredGaming Back in the day, I skipped over the NES and Genesis because I had an Amiga. My next console then was a Panasonic 3DO in 1994. However, in the early 2000s, I picked up a Genesis, 32x and Sega CD, which offers some cool experiences.

@@greensun1334 Those are definitely on deck. I am working on a pc engine/tg16 video of my favorite soundtracks form the systems. Any suggestions? I used devils crush in my Halloween episode so that won't be on the list even though it is one of my favorites.
I think Genesis Castlevania and Contra are the only ones in their respective franchise that has no slowdown (unlike Nintendo the 'Slow-Clown'). And the games are designed simplistic because of that.
There are a lot Megadrive games with a size of 24megs, and bigger ones, like Mortal Kombat 3 and UMK3 (edit: both are 32megs). With 40megs, Super Street Fighter 2 is the biggest official Megadrive game. And, just saying, the system is not capable of scaling and rotation!
*some homebrews, hacks and bootlegs are even bigger. Paprium and Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy have a size of 80(!)megs, it's as big as a small Neo Geo game!
"And, just saying, the system is not capable of scaling and rotation!" Not true, it doesn't have hardware capable of scaling and rotation, but it can be done in software on the CPU. This has been done on games and tech demos. Pier Solar has a mode 7 style effect in the game.
@@AFourEyedGeek the hardware is not capable, that's what I meant. There exist even some official games with rotation effects, like Red Zone, and also scaling can be imitated by making use of different sized sprites, but it's sitill not comparable with real hardware scaling and rotation effects on other consoles.
@@greensun1334 have you seen Pier Solar mode 7 equivalent all done on the CPU? Also search on UA-cam for 'Sprite Rotation and scaling demo on Mega Drive', you'll see a scrolling background with multiple scaling and rotating sprites without external hardware. Not bad for a system that cannot do it.
While the first part of your post is correct (size). The second part...not so much. The Sega Genesis not only has the ability to scale and rotate sprites, but there are plenty of games that were released commercially with these effects. Developers were able to achieve scaling and rotation through software. Here are some games that featured these effects... 1. Red Zone: Features polygonal graphics, scaling, and rotation as normal gameplay, and even includes an FMV. 2. Road Rash 1-3: The track itself, riders, people on the roads, and everything else was done with software scaling. 3. Thunder Force IV: Features fully rotating shots that come from the background to the foreground in a level. There are enemies that move from the background to the foreground as well. 3. Kawasaki Superbike Challenge: This is a fully polygonal based racing game that runs very smoothly for the hardware. Every track has riders that scale from front to back and back to front. The track setpieces are almost entirely made of polygons that scale for the player. 4. Gunstar Heroes: The game has all kinds of sprite manipulation going on generally during boss fights. 5. Panorama Cotton: This game is an absolute feast for the eyes. It successfully emulates what a Super Scaler should look like on a Mega Drive (unlike Space Harrier 2). Albeit in a much smaller way. Unfortunately, it was never released outside of Japan. Addendum - There are many more examples, but this is getting a bit long, my friend. I encourage you to take a look at the small list of games I have shared as they truly are incredible.
@@KyleFinlayRed Zone is not actually doing anything as complex as scaling and rotation. It's basically just shifting tiles around and actually looks pretty awful. It covers it up by using extremely dark colors to obscure that fact. I think it is using the edges of triangles to make convincing shorelines, though.
Castlevania Bloodlines is just downright ugly. From ugly, muddy backgrounds to cheesy looking characters. The special effects that everyone gushes about are not that impressive either. Play Sparkster on SNES if you want to see that water reflection trick done convincingly. Play Super Metroid if you want to see how a tilting tower looks and more importantly plays like. The games action isn't even as fast paced as Super Castlevania 4. Try playing through the more difficult second quest where their are way more enemies out their attacking. I am so sick of these ignorant Sega fanboys that think that Genesis games play faster. A games speed has little to do with hardware and there is no "blast processing" either.
@@davidaitken8503 But we talk here about best looking games on Sega Genesis. Why are you trying to start another argue about SNES vs Sega if SNES isn't even mentioned here?
@@drugonI was merely pointing out games from the 16-bit era that do those effects much more convincingly. Konami made both Castlevania Bloodlines and Sparkster so I thought that was a good example to give in particular. If you want examples of Genesis games that blow away Castlevania Bloodlines visuals that would be a really long list. The game just doesn't look that good. Everything from Shinobi 3, Dynamite Heady, Ranger X, Ristar, Comic Zone, Sonic 1, 2, 3, Knuckles, Gaires, Aladdin, and countless others look much, much better.😃
This is true. I will be making a series of videos detailing more games with the best graphics, and Alien Soldier is definitely on my radar. That is one of my favorite games on the console.
Saying Bloodlines has some of the best graphics on the system.. is a complete insult to the system. The colors and art are really below average. I have no idea how people think that's good graphics. There's soo much graphic disappointed in Bloodlines.. especially for the year it came out. It straight up has NES color gradients going on.. and a complete LACK of detail. The animation is seriously amateurish. Yeah the music is good, but that has nothing to do with the graphics.
Thanks for the input, and I am impressed how passionate you are about your graphics. I like your attitude! I was going to do a whole episode on the game with the best graphics ever, that of course would be Jewel Master! What games would be on your list?
Indeed, the look of Bloodlines was a disappointment, even more for a game from '94. Altrough it had some rarely used graphical effects like highlight/shadow mode, the colors and animations were quite basic. It's the least appealing 16bit Castlevania imo.
@@greensun1334 I agree. But most people who proclaim it one of the most impressive 16-bit games are apparently focussed on a couple of largely pretty standard graphical tricks and little else from what I can tell, most of which actually look a little fugly when considered purely on the end result and artistic merit imo. I mean, even if someone considers it technically accomplished, which it actually is in many ways for a Genesis game, it's really not an aesthetically pleasing game as far as I'm concerned. And as far as I'm concerned, that's actually the most important part to get right. still, a whole lot of Genesis fans seem to consider it a stunner. While personally, I'd say Castlevania IV and Rondo of Blood are far prettier, especially Rondo of Blood that really had the benefit of extra time and experience as evidenced in the clear evolution of the quality of largely the pixel artwork there, even with it being on a console that lacks many of the typical graphical capabilities of the likes of Genesis and especially SNES. It's doing a whole lot with one background layer and largely just some row/line scrolling and sprites faking the rest of background details and such. And that kinda makes it the most impressive graphically to me too for that very reason--because it takes full advantage of the stock console's standard features better than both the Genesis and SNES games push those systems in my opinion. Still, Bloodlines is certainly not a bad game, actually very good, but just not very pretty to my eyes. And rather actually kinda fugly to be honest.
@RetroPoweredGaming I like the graphics/ colors in bloodlines over the look of castlevania 4, the graphics are good in 4 but the world just looks too early super Nintendo imo. Bloodlines had more pop, terrible bosses compared to other castlevania games, like that gear boss. No ranger-x?
@@RetroPoweredGaming Jewel Master? You're a fan of that early 16bit era look? Jewel Master has that charming early 16bit era look. I dunno.. there's a difference between "best graphic" and "I like this aesthetic/look". On my list? Off the top of my head... Gaiares. To this day, it looks like a SNES game in the color department, and the art for the bosses is amazing (as well as the animations). I'd have to really sit down and think about "best graphics" for the Genesis.
Now I want to go home and play my Sega Genesis!

"And, just saying, the system is not capable of scaling and rotation!"
Not true, it doesn't have hardware capable of scaling and rotation, but it can be done in software on the CPU.
I'd say best graphics in Sega games is in Comix Zone, Ranger-X, Demolition Man, Lion King, Earthworm Jim, Gargoyles and Vectorman.
Ranger-X was amazing at the time. Red Zone also did some amazing things with scaling and rotation on Mega Drive
The Story of Thor is probably the most impressive game graphically, it looks like a neogeo game
It has great artwork, it reminds me of an updated version of streets of rage 2.
Let's say Aladdin. Best animation in its time.
Good call, I agree.
Almost cartoon perfect.
You forgot alien soldier
This is true.
I will be making a series of videos detailing more games with the best graphics, and Alien Soldier is definitely on my radar. That is one of my favorite games on the console.
That game was not even released on Genesis.
sega megadrive mate , we are not all american
I hear that and good call. To me they are one in the same but I will be sure to mention that for now on. Sega Genesis and Mega Drive.
Bro didn't play metal squad ...the best track in thunder force 4
I will have to look into that to see which one I missed. But good call on that. I mean, a whole episode could be done on just the soundtrack alone.
@@RetroPoweredGaming true
Eric Lucard? It's not Alucard?
Castlevania? The character or dracula's name? I always thought Dracula was named Alucard.
No Zero Tolerance ? Get out of here...
I have to find that game somewhere. I do not own that one. Good call though.
The best looking game from that time period was Yoshis island for me. The game looked incredible.
