Hi, I see that few of you have used the game's weapon power ups: bomb that can be activated with the space bar when it is collected, the edges of the screen turn red, then to activate the Smart bomb press the Space key.
The Never on Time pic by Lobo is just lush. I love the colour and detail in it.
Did a double take seeing this not in my recommend but in my subs box!! Lovely to have ya back mate 🍻
Ah god bless, thanks for the kind words. Good to get back into things again.
Great to see another round-up video - they’re always a favourite. Thanks for the fantastic encouragement and support you give to the C64 community!
Thanks for the video as always! Yeti Mountain looks like fun, I may have to check it out. It's great seeing the C=64 community still so active.
The demo mentioned is definitely worth a watch. Best demo I’ve seen in a while. And long!
It's amazing. So charming! Just quality all the way. Feels so valuable and precious compared to modern effects.. organic almost!
A short addition to "Chaluul's Curse": mouse is also supported.🙂
I look forward to each new issue.
I really like the adventure game created with the D42 system. Would love to see heaps more using that system
Infestation looks so cool! I love the small high resolution sprites and the look of the high resolution backgrounds. Random levels sounds cool also.
I've been waiting for Yeti Mountain. December seems far away, but it's looking good. Infestation is also looking great. Nothing wrong with a more linear experience.
The Yeti Mountain game looks great; I really like the avalanche pursuit idea. Those recent demos were also superb, but I still think Edge of Disgrace by Booze is the #1 of all time.
I was wondering if anyone would have noticed the avalanche concept. For me it was always going to be an integral part of the game even though Russell wasn't sure about how to implement it. Once I described to him the quiz show The Chaser, he understood the mechanic required and did a fantastic job in implementing it.
Great to see you back!
Hey thanks, appreciate your on going support. Cheers
Wow the level of graphics, animation and sound of current artists is impressive! many of today's masterpieces really rival in quality those of superior systems from the 80s/90s like the Amiga or Atari ST
Oh, maybe for inexpensive ports to the Amiga and Atari ST. Ever seen The Great Giana Sisters on the ST? It will drive you insane to try to play it on that machine, because they couldn't figure out smooth scrolling. A real mistake in hardware of the ST although I think some smart coder figured it out eventually, but not for Giana Sisters.
For still pictures on the C=64, they did a bunch of crazy tricks, like changing the character set between scan lines and other insane stuff.
I am so glad these days are over. They were fun back then, but MAN, I would never want to go back spending hours to optimize a line to get something to work, and be confined to all these timing constraints and weird tricks.
Thats an organic computer.
Thanks for playing it!❤
Great to have another round up video! Hopefully Yeti Mountain will be as brilliant as it already looks. Really liked the graphics in Chaluul's Curse actually but you're right, the music is far too busy, where a more atmospheric and moody soundtrack would seem far more fitting.
I've played a lot of Yeti Mountain over the past couple of years and when I sat down with that latest build, it still felt very fresh and I loved playing through it multiple times. My only regret is that when the game is released, I won't be experiencing it for the first time.
@@RetroGamerNation That is high praise indeed! Now I'm REALLY looking forward to the game.
It seems to have a lot of "personality" and fresh ideas and maybe even a Yeti...
Hard to imagine how gobsmacked people would be if these had come out on this hardware 40 years ago.
I mean they could have.... just that thought is amazing.
nice video buddy. thankyou! i missed the last one...
Welcome back!
I'm happy to see a new video.
Great content, as ever. Thanks!
Thanks, another great update. Looks like some real gems coming out at the minute.
Another brilliant video mate.
Why are so many games PAL only?
I mean, I thought I knew some of the pitfalls of NTSC compatibility with games like Sam's Journey, but I thought of them as edge cases where performance optimization is paramount.
But today there were several games mentioned that don't seem to fall into that category.
What is the problem here?
wait for the one-file mega trainer with NTSC fix!
It's because there's a lot more raster time available on a PAL system. Coders tend to use the VBLANK area for executing a lot of their code, that much, that it's then not possible to achieve the same on an NTSC system as NTSC has considerably less time in the VBLANK area.
NTSC has a superior frame rate but the loss of scanlines means you have far less raster time to perform so many important tasks in the code. But there is also the fact that most C64 users seem to reside in PAL land, at least going by the feedback from games sales.
love the new Artworks.
I LOVE MY C64 ❤❤
Welcome back. Is there gonna be an episode 2 in your 1990s retrospective?
Yes there will be. I had the video 90% completed in mid June but I just needed to get away from all things RGN related by then. Episode 2 should be out in late August.
