i find it really funny that he was actually so offended that the game would twist the dog part post decision that he actually stopped playing the game
The more problems they did, the more I realized their answers/responses to your choices were clearly intended to make it seem like it didn’t matter because they would guilt you either way. Then they straight up twisted the narrative entirely with the last one

I don't know if this is true but I feel like the point of the game IS to make you feel good, because if you're actually in that situation, no matter how righteous you are or feel, no matter what choices you make, everyone else is going to react like the game. The weren't there, but they'll interpret the situation however they like to make you feel guilt even though they weren't there and didn't have to make that choice

The game tells you you’re an asshole no matter what answer you pick. It’s literally designed to try and make sure you consider the ethics of the other side.

I like how the Trolley Problem, as presented, is morally reprehensible even when you take the more ethical option. Then we have this narrator, acting like she is this moral arbiter. She probably doesn't deserve to live.

I don't even know how many streamers I've seen play this but it still pisses me off that it literally says "choices matter" and yet it's a completely linear game and the only thing that changes is the number on the reciept
I think the point of the game kind of plays into that. It's supposed to make you feel like choices don't matter because the voice criticizes every choice you make. So it gets to a point where you feel like what matters is how people see you. But that's not what makes this kind of ethical scenario matter. It shouldn't be, "people should see me as a hero for doing this good deed". It should be, "I did the most good I could do, so it doesn't matter what neighsayers think."
Or maybe I'm wrong, idk
@@thegildedspider I get that it makes you feel like you made the "wrong" decision no matter what, that part I'm fine with, my issue is more with the whole structure of the game pretending your choices carried over from a previous question when actually it's exactly the same every single time.

Here's my problem with the whole dog thing, and tbh putting animals down in general. When your putting an animal down I personally think it's wrong, I don't think someone else putting an animal down is wrong, I just think me myself putting an animal down is wrong just to be clear. The way I see it, when pulling the plug on a human being it's almost always something that the person dying decides prior. But with an animal they cant express if they have decided to pass on clearly. So to put it simply I think that if an animal is dying then it would be more appropriate to let what happens happen rather than forcing an outcome. (Yes I know this is something no one will agree with, and I'm likely a horrible person to just about everyone)
Putting an animal down randomly is definitely wrong, but if an animal is suffering its the merciful thing to do (example: cant walk from pain, or completely lethargic, or 99% not going to survive a painful injury, etc)
I agree with you. I'm not gonna decide when another living being is going to die just to "put it out of its misery". If the other living being in question is a human and they expressed the wish to die? Sure. Their wish should be respected. But an animal can't tell me what it wants. Maybe it didn't want to die yet? Maybe it would rather be in pain and live a short while longer than die right now? I don't know that, so I'm not going to make a choice on its behalf. I know I'd rather try to live as long as I possibly could. So if I was a dog and a random person came along and tried to "put me out of my misery", I'd be pissed!

The game didn't change the dog situation. Mark did choose to kill the dog, who would have lived for some amount of time had he not. I understand that there are people who are too "weak" to kill the dog, but there are also people too weak to let it live. Look back though, the game didn't deceive him on the issue, what he chose was to kill what he believed to be an innocent creature to end what he saw to be it's suffering. People who sometimes suffer and expect they will die have reason to be concerned about the thought process there.
It still think it did change the situation. Both prompts insinuated the dog would die regardless what you did, I wouldn’t class leaving the dog to die as “saving it”. Therefore them saying that they saved the dog, even though it wasn’t presented as an option, changes the story. Them saying they saved the dog also implies that they saved the dog from dying entirely.

God what an idiotic comment. If they wanted to argue between "let the dog die" vs "kill the dog", the actual moral dilemma, that's one thing. It's lying that's the issue.
If you leave a dying dog on railroad tracks you are not saving the dog. You're just not.
I assume the game was purposely made to make it seem like you choose the wrong answer no matter what. If they were tryna be funny with it then i get that, it 100% could have been done, but straight up lying/changing what the situation was isn't funny, its annoying.

I learned that Mark would kill any terminal dog regardless of sentimental value or the dog's "wishes." It's like hearing from the doctor that your friend has 6 months to live and saying "Welp, buddy, I'll go get the gun." -.-
The friend had a diagnosis, the dog did not have much context.

I’d much rather put down an animal that is terminally ill and unlikely to get better or dying, keeping it living will only cause more suffering to the animal. It’s difficult, yes I Understand but animals do not think the way humans do, when an animal is dying or injured it is scared and most of the time doesn’t understand that you’re trying to help it, and only hurt themselves worse because of panic.
A lot of people think keeping a suffering animal or person ‘alive’ is the right thing to do, when in reality it only causes more pain and much more mental distress because recovery is painful, and the process is long and absolutely debilitating.
Hopefully this offers more insight on your views, because what you used as an example is not the best example that can be used, Have a good day or night 😊

I mean not really, I've played the game and it's dumb as hell 😂 it always makes you out to be the bad person even if you choose the "right" answer
judging based on the reviews this game has on steam, the game doesn't get much better. Some people tried it multiple times to see if they could figure out what choices the game deemed the "correct" ones, since it seemed to be so clearly biased against the ones they chose the first time. But no, apparently they just berate you no matter what you choose. Mark picked up on that pretty quickly and quit the game. The dog section has WAY too much shady information to make a proper decision in, and the game would have just changed the outcome to be some other horrible reality. Like, if you let it live, they'd probably tell you that it DID suffer horribly. This game wants to be the stanley parable. It fails miserably at it.

@@mallk238 That's the point though, there are no correct answers because the narrator doesn't give an objective judgement of your decisions. It's a mirror to real life and how you shouldn't judge the ethics of your decisions based on what other people say about you. Any situation can be twisted negatively, and that's especially easy with the trolley problem.
