With the M6 Mike I have found the following helped . Mike gain set at 63. Remove grey foam disk from inside Mike housing and cut a big hole in it so as to leave just a cushioning ring for the Mike component within the housing. Speak directly into the M6 touching housing on top lip. So far no negative audio reports!
There can be a lot of settings missed having to delve into menus. Thankfully the 6900 is not too bad. Still miss basic knobs myself but you would end up with a radio the size of a bread bin costing 3 times a smuch. Cheers Andy.
Hey Fred the K-PO 532 is a Electret Condenser mic 1K ohm high impedance which is why works so well. I bought one from Knights for my Anytone at6666. The Astatic Road Devil red mic is also electret condenser power mic.
Hi Fred, love your radio videos talkback on the 6900N is the next option after mic gain shows on my radio as NO9 using the NM532 I found setting 1 is fine anything higher and you will get serious feedback but with the stock mic I find around 10 to 20 should be fine in most situations. best 73s 26ayp001
Another Tip Fred if you have a speaker plugged in the back swith it to PA and adjust your mic gain for best sounding if it seems to go loud but a bit FLAT you are over driving it HTH Mark
i usually put tie mike gain into maximum with dynamic mike (LOL) . nobody told to heard me distorted. instead with red Astatic i put into 25 or 31. p.s. radio seller telling me that mike gain have to be generally at maximum with dynamic mike otherwise you have to shout too much into it... there is no processor like in OM radios
Hiya Fred, if you still need to know how to use the talkback feature, if you go to menu run to the item after IC9 (Mike gain) to the item NOG ant turn on and turn up the volume and talk back is on
Hi there Fred, I felt I had to comment ;) Thnx for all your brilliant videos, especially the ones about this particular radio. I'm busy replacing my entire shack at the moment. For a long time I've been browsing around, wondering what radio to buy. Well... it's going to be this one, thanks to your vids! ;) I just subscribed to your YT-channel. Keep the good work going mate! Hope to catch you on the airwaves one time during sporadic-E. Cheers and best 73's from 19CT006 (op. Gert) in the Netherlands!

HELLO FRED HELP PLEASE I HAVE THE SS6900N RADIO, AND THE KPO532 POWER MICK . SORRY FOR COPYING YOU. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLAME AS YOU I WAS TOLD I WAS OVER MODULATING OR SOUNDS AS IF I WAS OUT OF FREQUENCY.I WAS FALLOWING YOURE VIDEOS . YOU STARTED TO TURN THE PODS DOWN INSIDE THE RIGS AND I DID THE SAME . DID THIS HELP OR DID YOU TURN THEM BACK TO THE ORIGINAL POINT BEFORE YOU MOVED THEM. AS MY RIG STILL SOUNDS OUT OF FREQUENCY . AND CAN I ASK DID YOU TURN MICK GAIN UP OR DOWN ON THE RADIO. MANY THANKS JOHN
Yes john it sounds like your off freqs so prob need to re programme. As to the KPO 532. Start with the mic gain very low. Prob around 5 and increase one point at a time. When it starts to over mod back off a couple points.
HI FRED 1 MORE QUESTION IF THIS IS OK. MY RADIO NEVER CAME PROGRAMMED. SO DOES THIS MEAN I NEED TO PROGRAMME IT BEFORE I CAN USE IT.AND IF SO CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO OF HOW TO DO THIS AS I NO A FEW MORE WHO IS IN THE SAME PREDICAMENT AS I AM . MANY THANKS JOHN
Hi John. Not going to be able to help you here as i do not even have the USB lead. Best bet would be forums like the Charlie tango site as i have read before about how its done. The connector is inside the radio on the board.
Mine on the out the box is on 63 and using the M-6 mic is that a bit high? I noticed you took the sponge out of your mic Fred is that why 30-35 is better on your rig? Great vids by the way :)
It depends how you hold the mic. I tend to talk close on the mic across the grill with the mic on my top lip. 63 for me would be too high but if you talk further away then a higher setting is fine.
Hi Fred, Hope your well .Just a small question I want to use the power mic, KPO on my CRT SS 6900N, but was sent a message from the retailer saying, If you plug in a power mic - you need to disable the voltage to the socket on the radio otherwise you risk destroying the mic circuit inside the radio. … can you Help me please. Thank you
Never heard that you have to disable anything in the radio. They may be talking about the up and down switches but you would just not connect them. I always use Knights as they wire the mic to your radio for free.

I like these menu driven radios. It can be really helpful in setting up the radio for good transmit and receive

Hello Fred , Thank you for sharing , Unfortunately from what I can gather the CRT 6900N does not have Electret mic facilities , just dynamic .

I'm getting complains of low modulation but my gain was in the 60s. I'm a bit concerned 😟
The mic is not the best.
Thanks for the information very helpful. Can I use my bog standard swr meter to check my power output?
Yes i always think that a inline SWR meter is a good safe option.
No. Unless your SWR meter has a pwr option.
