I have recently started podcasting and researched a lot about these mics and all patterns. This video clearly helps someone who is confused because there are tons of videos to choose from. Thanks! AKG LYRA is my new big investment. :)

@Gatlin Thatcher thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
The more time I spend looking at mics the more I fall in love with this channel! At this point in time. it would be easier for him to list the mics he hasn't reviewed. Combined with the fact he is the best reviewer of mics for musicians by a golden mile. As we would say in Ireland..... "Keep 'er lit lad!"
I love the humour and timing you bring to these videos (also your deadpan expression at times - just after throwing the box). Keep up the great work. :)
This guy is one of the best music gear reviewers I have seen on UA-cam, He is funny, smart and very informative, all at once. Really looking for a USB mic. My boy really seems to favor a single polar pattern model over multiple pattern USB mics. That being said, I want to use my USB mic for both Google Meet calls and as a convenient studio mic that I can hopefully use for vocals and acoustic guitar and usable in a finished pro mix (not just a demo). Budget up to $200.00. May or may not be feasible as a real audio production mic. Have heard a lot of good comments on the Rode NT-USB. Anyway, Podcastage what are your thoughts on best cardiod USB? Thanks in advance.
Love how you edit the music parts together and your reviews are much more in depth. Best audio review channel on UA-cam. The mic looks great shame its not more quality built.
I clicked on this video not because I want or even care about this microphone, but because our dearest host, Bandrew is, as the kids would say, “epic”.
Oh man... I can feel the apathy through my headphones, I can see it reaching out to me through the screen. Just the complete levels of "I can't even" coming from you Bandrew when talking about multi-polar-pattern USB mics made my chest hurt. I feel you, man.
Just please can anyone do something different here. The Antelope Edge Go is $1250, but at least it’s something new, and that makes it exciting and cool, even though it’s appeal is limited by the pricing of it.
@@Podcastage What I don't get is that 90% of the people who buy them will never use more than the cardioid polar pattern, because it's going to go on a Neewer or Rode boom and be attached to their desk. So, who do these mic companies think they're making these for? I mean, I'm an anomaly, and I carry my Rode NT-USB with me, but honestly. If you're stationary, get a Blue, a Rode, or a Shure and call it done.
@@Podcastage Captain far too late here- As someone in the market for usb mic doing the pros and cons. The Seiren X v2 tried to do one big capsule at 24mm with a single pickup pattern. Essentially most of what you asked for a company to focus on. It inaccurately portrays a lot of the lows and highs that the multiple smaller capsules are capable of picking up- your review of it VS this has me leaning heavily towards the AKG. Also- keep up the good work mate, it is all very well done.
I'm really grateful for your review. It was very helpful. Thank you so much and keep up the good work! Side note: I enjoyed your humor, it was a nice touch and with the right timing
Listen, I just got this mic for a whopping $68 bucks at guitar center because the blue yeti I ordered before was defective and this AKG was the only usb mic they had.. I’m thoroughly satisfied up to this point… love the review, as always..
I've been browsing your mic review videos for the last 2 days searching for the perfect under budget usb condenser mic and I've finally settled for this one. I've come across many other mics like the Blue Yeti ,Audio Technica Atr2500, Blue snowball ice and many more but they're not available in my country due to their relatively low demand ( although Blue Yeti nano is within the same price range but much better than AKG Lyra 🤷🏽♂️ but only the latter is available). However I'm happy with what I got and I'm glad I had your videos to help me decide. Among other reviews, I've found yours to be the most informative . So I thank you for all the help and guidance 😁
I listened to the review after i picked up the mic on amazon for $40 less the the price at review. I found this review to be both fair and entertaining. Personally I’m not sure I expect the knobs to not be plasticky at this price otherwise review is great. Thanks!!
Can we stop for a second and acknowledge the amount of effort that went into this video. a) always enjoyed your videos b) the best reviews on the net 3) those quick songs at the end is always such a nice cherry on the cake)
Thanks for this! I was waiting for your review before deciding to buy, and I'm glad I waited. I share your boredom with the "Yeti-clone" multi-pattern mics but, as a Windows user, I'm always interested in a USB mic with a gain control (that is NOT a Yeti), and the fact is, nearly all of those with a gain knob are the multi-polar-pattern ones. In this case, there seems to be plenty of gain but it's too noisy to be much help. The tone isn't bad (beats the Yeti there), and the mounting system for getting it off the dang desktop looks good. On balance, I think no sale.
When did the Star Wars franchise get into designing mics? That was a great job of reviewing this mic. It struck me that in the right creative engineer's ears, this mic could be interesting as you've mentioned. Thanks.
Compared to the usb mics of a decade ago this is amazing. Put UAD's LA-2A with a little eq, slap a reverb bus on it and I think you'd be good to go. Had an old MXL USB and it had more noise than Seattle in the 90s.
I listened to this, your Blue Yeti and Blue Snowball reviews (snowball is what I have and want to upgrade from) and I actually really like how this sounds compared to the Yeti review video. The build quality sounds disappointing, but I guess the plastic keeps the price down? Maybe? Thanks for doing this, really like your review style.
WOW, it seams like a grate mic. Sound and stereo option are great in this price. Tbh I consider enclosure to be biggest con. Plastic is not a problem for me, but the resonance of any sound (tapping, keyboard banging) is way to big. On the other hand, its sound way better than Blue Yeti imo.
It's interesting that Bandrew brings up their questionable marketing language on some of their boxes. In another AKG video one of their reps compares their mylar diaphragm material to a competitor to show how quiet theirs is. They take out a crumpled piece of mylar which is supposed to be from their competitor and crinkle it around to show how loud and crinkly it is, then take out a nice smooth piece of mylar which is supposed to be theirs and wave it gently in the air and proclaim that their mylar is much quieter.
How did you mount it to the mic stand? Does the thumbscrew need a special key or something? This is my first usb mic and I was expecting it'd be easy to mount like xlr mics but it's super solid and I don't seem to have the proper tools 😭
Hi bro. Between AKG Lyra and Hyperx Quadcast, which one is better in sound quality and background noise cancellation? And any specific type of pop filter suitable for AKG Lyra?
