    This is a very good car review. It was refreshing to see motorjournalist use a camera-angle that actually gives you a glimps of what the feel of the ride is like.
    I must agree - altough never driven one - that a CVT-only product line-up is maybe not the way to go, not on a sports model like this. Same with the engine. Yes, 170 BHP is enough for almost everyone, but why does the 'east' get a 300bhp model and, sometimes, a manual 6 speed.

    Nice review! Thank you!

    Can you force the CVT to not use virtual gears when going WOT? Cause that makes it slower.

    that weird out here they only come with the 2.0ltr wrx motor, never seen a 1.6ltr turbo in any subaru

    I've been seduced into Subaru ownership a number of times now. To name just a couple I've had a WRX Impreza and two Legacy GTB's. I really like the subtle muscular look of this car but will the UK get the high performance version or just the anemic 1.6?

      My legacy GTB is already 19yr old and still loves it inside out, though i have evo x and r20 . . . Not much power compared to the other two but dammmn it is sweeeetttttt.....

    All sounds great except that CVT gearbox. I currently own an automatic and don't hate them - 2 of my last 3 cars have been automatic and my next car (I'm currently browsing) may be an automatic, preferably a dual clutch, but CVT seems like a nightmare to me.

      +pipnmaz In the review on our website - www.testdriven.co.uk/subaru-levorg-review/ - we argued that a dual-clutch transmission would have suited the Levorg perfectly. We're hoping that this first model represents a toe-in-the-water approach for Subaru, and in that light it makes sense for them to import what they already have - in Japan, CVTs are popular(ish). Speaking entirely personally, though, my opinion is much the same as yours - even a conventional auto would have been better than CVT.

    Offering a car with only an automatic gearbox in the European market is simply doing it wrong. Has Subaru not realized that more than 75% of cars sold in the EU have manual gearboxes?

    • @sidwiavh7472
      @sidwiavh7472 8 років тому +2

      +Paul Hojda The automatic is not such a problem. I'd buy it if it would have a normal automatic gearbox with paddles. Or if the car would act sporty. But the CVT destroys all the fun.

      Most people in Norway buy new cars with automatic/cvt transmissions. Many kids who take driving licenses these days don't bother to take license for manual transmissions cars. You can only drive manual transmission in Norway if you have the correct license. Everyone with license can drive a car with automatic transmission. CVT is quick when your engine has max torque from 1800rpm. Levorg is the sportiest car I've owned. And the only car I've owned that doesn't have a manual transmission. The sporty image of a manual transmission comes from the inefficiency between gear changes.

    i thought volvo forgot to put diagonal stripe on one of their cars.. front end is totally enhanced/aggressive volvo's design..

    Subaru seem to be geared towards the us market these days. Having no manual option is massive mistake.

    I don't get why this isn't more popular, when I bought mine. The 320dx and A4 Q, no camera, 5000$/€ more expensive, the tax more then 2x higher, smaller screen, no LED beam etc.
    If u add up all this and have like 6000$/€ in the wallet after a few years. U can do something fun with that :)

    Thank you for a superb review, I am looking to buy this vehicle and I think this is THE spot on review on this car. I am particularly curious about your damping/suspension comment after 4:50 where you mention there were sections on the road that caused wild body movement, and you add that Subaru can sort this out. Forgive me for asking if the answer is obvious but how can Subaru fix that for someone who has already purchased this car? Or do you mean in the future with newer versions?

    • @TestDrivenUK
      @TestDrivenUK  8 років тому +1

      +berrcutio Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad it was useful! Regarding the damping, yes, I was suggesting it could be revised in a future version - Subaru are generally very good at refining things at each new model year. It may be that the current suspension set-up is fine for the roads you drive on regularly, but if you felt it needed changing, I'm sure it won't be long before the various suspension manufacturers offer an upgrade for the Levorg.

    2 things bothering me.
    1. CVT.
    2. Price in my country. I can buy a WRX STI for the same price. This country is crazy.
    To be fair, I compare prices of a Levorg that's loaded according to my minimum equipment levels to the STI, and that's not the entry level car.

    • @ast5515
      @ast5515 8 років тому

      Richard Joash Tan And you are a BUTTHURT!
      I expressed my opinion in a normal, calm manner, and you come here and say bullshit.
      CVT: I said it bothers ME. Never said it makes the car worthless.
      Price: IN MY COUNTRY.
      So go cry somewhere else.

    • @DiwaGalvez
      @DiwaGalvez 8 років тому +2

      +ast5515 The CVT in the Levorg is pretty awesome. It behaves like a regular automatic. I don't know how Subaru did it, but their CVTs are miles ahead from Toyota, Nissan, etc. :) Though yes, in my country, it puts me off because the 1.6T version is as expensive as the Forester 2.0XT, and that's just wrong.

    is this going to be available in the US market?

  • @L0CK3RW4LL

    What do You think about the "manual" mode of the gearbox?

    • @TestDrivenUK
      @TestDrivenUK  8 років тому +5

      +L0CK3RW4LL It's better to have it than not, but it's no substitute for a manual. You can hold on to gears for longer, but it never really allows you to exploit peak torque which starts from 1,800 rpm. The result is that the surge of acceleration this engine is capable of delivering as the turbo kicks in is never really apparent. Even in manual mode, the Levorg's engine feels like it's at the other end of a long piece of elastic, always trying to catch up. Which is a real shame, because the rest of it is awesome.

    What's wrong with you Subaru? First you kill WRX wagon, then you make this with tiny engine with cvt???
    I might be looking some place else for my next car :(

    • @TestDrivenUK
      @TestDrivenUK  8 років тому +2

      +mj7100 We're hoping that if enough people comment that it should come with a manual 'box, Subaru UK will be able to build a business case to take back to Japan and make it happen.

  • @softytop1000

    Love the look, but that gearbox and engine.... No thanks! It needs a 160BHP 2.0 diesel manual transmission and 55+mpg minimum, that's what people want, not a slow petrol inefficient engine and crappy gearbox that makes a weird noise!!

    • @TestDrivenUK
      @TestDrivenUK  8 років тому +1

      +softytop1000 I personally think they've pitched the power level about right, it's just that it's got the wrong gearbox. A diesel might be interesting (it would be 150hp), but I'm expecting a bit of a diesel backlash to start spreading, and it could be that Subaru are ahead of the curve for once. If it's more power you want, remember the WRX STI can be yours for only £1,500 more!

    per Autocar road test 13 January 2016 - noise level at 30mph- 58dB -very quiet. 2191 rpm at 70mph,Car has two driving modes i and s - but they are pretty similar to each other- electric handbrake and slightly woolly electric power steering. Comment about damping agreed . Seats may be electrically operated? Car is not particularly aerodynamic-it's main drawback? Read the Autocar road test and come to your own conclusions, I think it is 4 star ever day of the week . Autocar don't like Subarus -hope this helps

    • @TestDrivenUK
      @TestDrivenUK  8 років тому +2

      +Ian Kaye Have you watched the video? You sound like you think we gave the Levorg a negative review, but our findings were overwhelmingly positive, with the exception of damping and the gearbox. We certainly never mentioned anything about the parking brake, electric seats or aerodynamics, so I'm at a loss as to why you've quoted Autocar at us.

    only the looks ... uncomfortable absurd stiff suspension and awkward transmission kills it

    • @vectraB97
      @vectraB97 5 років тому

      Not at all. The classic version got nice suspension. And 17inch wheels also has a softer ride with less road noise than 18inch. Suspension is less bouncy on big bumps with 2.3bar air pressure. My kids never get car sickness in my levorg.
