Well, they're squeezed out of a bird's vagina/asshole combination & are filled with nutrient solution for an embryo. Pretty strange shit. (Not to mention those hens are held captive in way too small cages & their children are beingen killed on the day of their birth)
Honestly, this sounds a lot like my experience reading Chuck Palahniuk. I enjoyed it more as a visceral experience. Sure, there were a lot of interesting ideas and themes and whatnot, but for me, I never really got into the commentary on society when I was reading it. Instead, I just enjoyed the visceral experience and dark humor. Sounds a lot like this book, but with less eggs.
I love this book and Georges Bataille. The connotations to Bataille's own life are strong, and his ability to connect eggs and eyes is genius. If you read the part in the middle where he talks about where he got those images, it makes a lot more sense and provides a deep insight into how he copes with those things. Bataille believed that sex and violence were intertwined, and he also thought they bring you closer to death. I think people tend to write this book off as gross erotica which it isn't at all.
@@ManCarryingThing Well, i can certainly learn from this. I can't get anything down to less than 10 minutes without a painful amount of reduction, so I could definitely work to be more to the point -- I felt like this was really valuable, a lot of bang for the buck, so suffice to say, i'm inspired
Now this is the Man Carrying Thing that I missed. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the memes too. I'm all for you reading the phone book, for all I care.
omg i read this recently too and I didn't expect to love it as much as I do. It was unexpectedly life changing and I couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks. I kinda hate that it's done that to me 🥚🥚👁️👁️
Hey Liz! That is wonderful, I feel like I will read this again one day to really invest in what ideas it has to say. Planning to read more Bataille as well
I've been getting better than food recommendations for a few days too. For someone whose fasting...well I'd disagree with the channel name for the time being but books are certainly better.
Yeah it really surprised me that this was Cliff's favorite book. I've read a synopsis so I more or less know what it's about, but I'm curious as to what deeper meaning people are pulling from this story. Like, what is it "really" about? :/
Some parts are inspired by autobiographical elements (psychoanalysis was really big at the time), Bataille himself said this was about seeing the unseeable, and so the real; that the book was about pure and unmitigated joy. It's about fulfilment and going "to the end" of things (not sur how to translate that in English; tbh I think some aspects of the book may be missing in translation on that theme, but I've only read it in French). Some people see political, historical, anthropological etc commentary... You can do a deep dive of various analysis of the book. There are a LOT of interpretations out there. But basically, if you really want to know "what is it really about?".. There's no one answer.
Reading this in high-school was definitely an experience, haha. I can’t call it one of my favorites necessarily but it’s an oddity that I enjoy quit a bit and thank about pretty often. It is very fun to discuss with people, almost more so than actually reading it. I know people love how short and to the point it is but I have always felt like it could have benefited from being just a tad bit longer. Anyway, cool to hear you talk about this weird book.
Not going to lie: I completely forgot all about BTF. Then again, I only looked into his channel for his reviews of House of Leaves and The 120 Days of Sodom, so there's that.
This book is following me. A few weeks/days ago I discovered that it's one of Bjork's favorite books, then I stumbled upon Better than Food's review, then KDBooks review and then yours. Is this a sign? Coming up: Marquis de Sade's 120 Days of Sodom. After reading this one nothing that has to do with sex can shock me, in books at least (I hope). I've heard about the egg episode, in the Story of the Eye, though, so who knows?
So interesting the book is following you everywhere! I actually attempted 120 Days recently and found myself too completely bored and completely disgusted. I would say 120 days beats Story of the Eye ANY DAY in terms of shock value. Plus it is so LONG, i couldn't bear to read it.
@@ManCarryingThing I'm one of those poor souls who hoped for some sort of conclusion at the end. Let's say that the first half is better than the second one.
How did i miss that you reviewed this book? This is great. Bataille is great. People should read Inner Experience after this, so you go full Bataille and never go back. Solar anus, non productive expenditure and so on.
I've just finished this. I'm nit the best at reading so I struggled to understand it 100% but I powered on. I know the story but not too in depth. I really enjoyed it.
If you don't want to read the book, Hellraiser might be a good alternative. You will get the Erotism the book touched on if you watch the first movie. It can goes further like it was in the book, but I think Hellraiser is already enough. The book became a little bit tedious in the last vile act.
It's kinda surreal watching you do actual book discussion instead of sanderson memes, but I'm here for it
don't worry, it's surreal for me too
Well I want to read this but I also don't want to jeopardise my relationship with eggs.
the conflict we must all face
Now I'm gonna be self conscious every time I eat eggs
Eggs are officially canceled

I’ve read all of Palahniuk, and I will wholeheartedly say Chuck comes across PG compared to Bataille 🥚

This story sounds interesting, but to be honest, i'm most impressed with how much you really got in this video in such a short period of time.
Thank you! I get so tired of hearing my own voice that I edit out everything that I don't absolutely need to avoid the process, lol

Looks like this book wasn’t better than food... but it may be great read when dieting!!
I love seeing your classic format, and The impending menace of the Stand will only grow
Thanks dude, the Stand is always there for me

I honestly want to read this just to know more about the egg comment
Can I just say everything you say is awesome
hadn't heard of him before... I'm not fully sold yet but who knows :-) always great to get recommendations a bit out of the usual names
Bataille certainly isn't for everybody
I don’t know what was in this book that will make you never look at eggs the same way again and I’m scared to find out.
be scared. be very scared.
Eggs boldly going where no eggs have gone before...
OMG I’m editing my review of this as we speak
Wow! That is awesome, can't wait to hear what you think

I think I need to do more outside reading -- I enjoyed it on its own, but it does feel like I missed a lot of subtext

Nobody better than Cliff himself to explain this! He has a review about this book on his channel. It's around 30 minutes, if I recall correctly.
Sounds f*cked up. I'm intrigued.
That book sound interesting. I not sure if I want to read it or not.
Definitely not for everyone
@@ManCarryingThing yeah. It sound disturbing but good at the same time
I still don’t get this book. Maybe I’m dumb. But it was just like... what the French toast...
I want to read it again, but I think I need to watch some lectures or read some essays about Bataille first

I watch Cliff's show because his taste is so antithetical to my own. Not surprised that this is his favorite.
Got more of the personality of man carrying thing and more of the book taste mostly of better than food. So this is the crossover of me myself and I!
I've just finished this. I'm nit the best at reading so I struggled to understand it 100% but I powered on. I know the story but not too in depth. I really enjoyed it.
