Tim is one of my favourite performers. He is so multi-talented. Everything from musical comedy to lyricist and composer for musicals ( matilda and Groundhog day), television, beautiful love songs. Oh, and he is killer on the piano. He is very intelligent and a lot of his songs really make you think. Thanks for reacting to Tim. 😊

This song has me in tears every time I hear it as our only child, our son, moved to Canada in early January 2013 and has only been back once at Christmas time, to be with us and other family for Christmas Day. He moved to Canada to be with his Canadian partner, who he had met 15 months before when he was sent to Vancouver by his employer for 6 weeks, to help open up the company's first Canadian office. Sadly, his partner finds our summers unbearable - she had come down in late November 2012 for 6 weeks to spend some time with us and to help our son pack up his apartment, etc., before they flew out in early January for Vancouver. They came back in 2017 to spend Christmas but, again, she found the heat unbearable - we live in Western Australia, in a small country town east of Perth, so it's even hotter out here than the Perth metro area. Yes, we have air conditioning but she hates that if she wanted to go walking or do any outdoor activity, it had to be extremely early in the morning, before the heat became worse, or after dark but even then it was still in the mid 30sCelsius. Even spring days of 25Celsius are "too hot" to her.
Yes, we skype every Christmas but it really isn't enough - you can't hug your child, you can't sit around a table with family, chatting and, to use the Australian vernacular, "taking the piss out of each other" so that everyone around the table is laughing, watching people fall asleep on the couch or floor after a HUGE lunch, etc., through skype.
Because of the prolonged heat here, we've never been able to go to Canada for Christmas - it would mean losing all of my garden because I can't ask neighbours to have to care for my garden, as well as their own, during our very hot summer months. It's not as if we could just "pop over" for 3 or 4 days since the quickest travel time is 28 hours (with just one transit stop) and the jet lag hits badly when you arrive at the other end. Now, my husband has dementia so travelling overseas in no longer an option for us.
So this song, no matter what time of year I hear it, hits me so hard because Tim expresses exactly how a parent feels about their child, no matter their age, who lives thousands of kilometres away and what is the importance of Christmas for many of us (including myself, a fellow atheist), that it's the time for families to gather together, to express their love for each other and the joy in being with them.

Tim Minchin is huge asset to Australia as he is probably one of the smartest men on the planet, he also stands up for people and is not only an author, writer, producer, actor, singer and comedian but he is an activist
But he also has a wicked sense of humour..
My favourite song by Tim is called lullaby but I’m a psych nurse and have a very dark sense of humour so the song makes me laugh
Also Tim just recently wrote a song called “play it safe” in celebration of the Sydney operas house 50th birthday. I thought you may like it as not only is it excellent but it has the wonderful Mr Jimmy Barnes singing with Tim for a very short period during music clip ❤

And, if anyone is reading this comment, you can buy the entire Jesus Christ Superstar production on UA-cam. I highly recommend doing so if you are willing and able. As you could gather Tim is a atheist but a wonderful human. He was in England when he wrote this and looking forward to having a hot Xmas in Perth. If Australia was overlaid on North America it would stretch north to south from up in Hudson,s bay down to the Caribbean so we have the same variation in weather that you would expect from Canada to Cuba. It is snow season here right now in our alpine areas.

The further you get form the equator whether its north or south the colder it gets. The southern part of Australia especially the alpine regions definately get snow the tropical northern areas does not. I find it hard to associate xmas with the cold because in the southern hemisphere we grew up with the opposite so its really what you are used to. Great reaction Tim Minchin is a gifted pianist and talented song writer he also wrote the music for the Broadway production Matilda.

We actually do get snow in Australia we get it mostly southern states like Tasmania, in parts of Victoria and New South Wales. Mainly in the alpine regions and when it snows most of Australia feels the cold during winter. Eg. A few weeks ago It snowed in the VIC and NSW region and southern parts of Queensland (QLD) felt the brunt of it. 😂

Tim Minchin wrote the world famous musical, 'Matilda,' inspired by a Roald Dahl children's book. You must check out his performance of 'Prejudice'.
My only experience of a white Christmas Day was on Mount Dandenong in the state of Victoria. The weather turned bad and there was a big hailstorm. The ground was completely covered in white hailstones and we lit a fire in the fireplace because it was sooo cold even though it was summer.
Others have written that we get more snow in winter in Oz than in Switzerland. Not quite true . We get a greater AREA of snow in the mountains but it is not as deep as in Switzerland. We do have ski resorts for snow sports. Snow can fall in every state in Oz, but mostly in the states of New South Wales and Victoria, where there are ski resorts, and in Tasmania. Australia has about seven climate zones.

Tim is really well known internationally. He has written musicals that played on Broadway and the West End of London like Matilda. He is a controversial music comedian you could say. A lot of what he writes and sings has people reacting in some pretty weird ways and most people are in awe, especially with his playing. I hope you get to see some of his other work like Prejudice, or The Pope Song just to name two. When he wrote about the pope, he wouldn't have known how right he was about him at that point of time. Knowing (as a red pilled truther) that the pope, cardinals and bishops have all been taken by the earth alliance, military tribunalled and executed back in about 2018 and replaced with clones and CGI would make him happy but I don't think he is red pilled yet. Disclosures will come soon.
