Overall it’s a good thing, as long as they don’t rush anything. People want more avatar content because both ATLA and LOK are both great content. So are the comics, and especially the Kyoshi novels. But it’s important not to rush anything. They can do a lot with the past avatars, and possibly avatars after Korra too. It’s just hard to picture it since legend of Korra sort of takes place in the twenties or thirties I think.
Just my 2 cents. I think it started out in the 20’s-30’s but then quickly founds its way to almost modern day. A giant mecha tank? I mean, that’s kind of ahead of us. All they’re missing is the internet and identity politics, lol.

Legend of Korra season 2 has reassured me that even if there's a misstep in this show it'll still be a great show/universe
That is so true. I'm rewatching LOK for the second time now and season 2 is my favorite season of all time. The show is sooo good. I'm rewatching it cause my friend hasn't seen it so I gotta show him what hes missing.
@Rusty Shackleford I was too young to remember avatar but when the legend of Korra came out I remember watching a few episodes. I was too young to really understand it though so I'm glad it came on netflix and I was able to watch it again. It's such a good series

I was hesitant when L.O.K. came out, thinking I wasn't going to like it. Of course it grew on me, and is now one of my favorite shows. So, if they made a new series, I'm sure I will love it! 😁

I'm cautiously optimistic. Personally I want to see Aaron Ehasz and that writing staff on board with any and all future projects. Bryan and Mike are great at bringing the ideas to the table and Ehasz is equally as great at bringing those ideas to life. Hopefully, corporate executives understand their role and stick to making sure that the platform is solid and that the marketing is up to par. Stay the hell out of the creative process.
Bryke aren't just "idea guys" and concept artists. They are legitimately good writers with or without Ehasz. Did you know we have Bryke to thank for the world-building, spiritual themes, Asiatic aesthetics, story editing (for every single episode) and for making Aang, Sokka and Katara into the characters we know and love? Heck, Ehasz only revised one concept that Bryke had (that being Toph's gender and age). Personally I think Tim Hedrick and Joshua Hamilton are more important than Aaron Ehasz.
Considering Aaron's reputation now it would be nice if he didn't come back to the avatar universe to be seen as a savior of some kind imo

@@vetarlittorf1807 Nah Bryke are very important but Ehasz was head writer and was in charge of the development of the series, downplaying what he did is a huge mistake. He was also in charge of a lot of storytelling decisions of the show challenging a lot of Bryke's decisions, something that was clearly seen in The Legend of Korra Book 1 as Bryke had too much creative control, however, in Book 3 and 4, Hendrick and Hamilton fixed a lot of TLOK's mistakes.
It depends on who's working on it. In this case I'd say it's in good hands.
I 100% believe that the reason why Avatar The Last Airbender was a sucess and still holds up today is it's writing. Aaron Ehasz and the rest of the writing crew knew the ins and outs of the story so well and crafted a narrative that was heartwarming, hilarious, exciting and awesome, because they worked hard and learned from the mistakes of the first season to make sure the rest of the show was twice as better.
I'm don't necessarily think that the new projects should be produced or written by Aaron Ehasz (though that would be a huge plus) I just think that that in order for the new projects to be successes, they need to put as much effort in the writing as they do with the animation, and when both are equally excellent, they'll definitely have a masterpiece in their hands.

Yes, so long as the stories are done well(given the room to fully operate their story; ATLOK would've been greater had it been given the room given to ATLA. So it can formulate complet arcs). Also I'm not focused on every storyline being epic/pigeonholed into being like the 100 years war. Imo, it would get redundant and overused if done that way each time. All I really want is cohesion of each story told that illustrates what each succeeding Avatar will eventually face. While ensuring clear greater depth to core characters.
This has been my main point since ATLOK started, Nickelodeon got too scared (imo) about having a legitimate franchise on their hands by accident.
They also started Korra at the beginning of Tough Girls movement & the onset of Netflix toons like Voltron coming on.
Majority of ATLOK issues are story pacing, lack of character development & the over reliance on the "no matter how hard you get beating you get right back up, because no one can keep you down" troupe/mantra.
It lead to Korra getting beat every season on a manner that was literally life threatening.
Now why the same point can be made for Aang, we knew that over the 22 or 24 episode seasons that it was a hit/miss chance for Aang.
But even then they had small major wins with excellent fighters every mini arc. It was written to be a whole mess & Korra suffered because of it.
Now a Kyoshi series where she is a beast for 250 years is going to be great to see.
@@danielland3767 i understand most of what you stated. Except Korra wasn't beat anymore than Aang was(nor do I believe it was primarily for the sake of learning how to get back up. I think it was to ensure Korra has to gain adaptability. Considering she began as rather standoffish and hot-headed when he way didn't automatically work. Also it's perplexing how people overlook/forget Aang continously got captured or needed help from those in his team Avatar. The key difference was her difficulties were done in greater scale/level of battle. And if you've read the Kyoshi novels. She wasn't wrecking people left and right from the get go(all Avatars have their path to growth, which is why their life experience forms different maturation. Given what they stated to Aang in ATLA finale and Wan and Aang showed Korra in ATLOK.)

My view was moreso based on the studio decision on how to execute it.
I was aware that Aang was captured/highly leaned on his team to help. I'm not attacking ATLOK or Korra as a character.
Maybe I was use to the 22 ep format & it (felt like to me) was shortened to 13 episodes & barely got any tv time before they moved the last season of Korra to the Nick website.
I think the studio did Korra dirty. Please understand that if I point out a disliked of ATLOK it's not that I think it's better & untouchable to ATLA.
It was the Character & their personality.
Regardless of gender, sexual orientation or anything else (if you swap everything) that is in the ATLOK series.
My issue was always about the personality, actions of the characters, truncated seasons, missing stories of cool things like the Pro Bending tournaments, how Asami was raised in her dads company, how the Yakone was able to get his sons on both sides of society to manipulate it.
Those elements are missing, I would have loved to see more animal interactions, we always say they are more in tune with the universe then we are.
Their are so many things that I wanted fo the ATLOK series, it nothing against Korra.
I also know that Aang is not perfect, I feel his trauma, I relate how he doesn't want to go against his beliefs.
I would love to see a Kyoshi & Roku series just to see how they faired in their time. I really want to see how Kuruk operated because he started the beef with Koi the face stealer.
I want to see how Kyoshi & Roku dealt with Koi. Why Kyoshi felt the need for the Dai Li & how the Kyoshi warriors started.
Avatar Yangchen era, way more of Wan then we got.
It's never a personal attack on Korra as a woman or sexual orientation/preference. It just how the series felt to me after living with the Aang Gang for so long.

It also helps that they have source material to reference when referring to character arcs and plot points.
BTW THERE IS A CANNON BOOK series for kyoshi already out for a few years now, I bought it and it was such a amazing read

No more Avartar is a great thing. I have been hoping for anything since Korra has ended. I love Avatar and Korra so much, and I can't wait to see what they do next.

I think it'll be good, people have stumbled a lot over liking Legend of Korra because it could never leave the original's shadow. Having a wider array of content will expand the stories into a world that has Aang's story as its anchor, but not defined by it - like how Mandalorian can explore a totally different world from the Skywalkers and still be an amazing story.
EDIT: Also, I'd be really interested to see that planned fourth season about Azula's redemption!

Nahhh I just always wondered how TLOK would’ve been if Nickelodeon let them do what they wanted and i just know the creators are gonna make something amazing the film can be about them finding zuko mom basically the comics animated. You know possibly giving Korra way to find the past lives i personally thinks she doesn’t need them she has all of Aang’s closet friends and family and teachers right in front of her. They should do a series with her trying to get the past lives you know. But the comics being animated first would be amazing and much better to visualize. I can’t wait I’m so happy for them us Fans made this happen

Hell no, as long as it never loses its values. This show was soo deep on many levels especially the first one and still gathering some heritage of that respective culture.
There’s soo many layers of this realm that’s yet to be showcased which is why the first one resonates with me more because it show cased other timelines etc

I think we can all agree that the avatar franchise is DRIPPING in potential. There is so much story and plot line to uncover and the studio could make so much profit from this. So either way, whatever we get (but done right of course) will be worthwhile

Not even aang thought he got any help from them and tried to get rid of his connection on purpose before bringing it back. the history of all avatars still exist and theyve still existed in the world
@@eiden5778 because continuity and the fact that past lives can give direct or indirect wisdom/insight. Shown both with Aang and Korra.
@@willsword8100 Aang didn’t really use any of the insight given to him though, and they were only used in the show as perfect/flawless examples of avatars he didn’t think he could live up to. The avatars are their own person and don’t really need it, that’s how Korra grew emotionally from being seperate from the other avatars. Again, Aang also tried to get rid of his connection as well cause he didn’t like it or their advice. Reseting the cycle was a way of seperating the shows and might have been good since it was previously quite outdated. The cycle still continues as Korra and the next Avatars being past lives after her death and other Avatar’s deaths, since she reconnected with Raava. There’s nothing making it not being able to continue, sometime a change can be good instead of repeating what we’ve already seen. It was signaling a new era, which is why book 3 was called Change as a lot of things, including this had changed in the world. The world hadn’t gotten much change or developmemt previously technologically and culturally even since Avatar Wan. Severing the connections puts the past in the past and symbolizes a way to move forward as Korra being the beginning of this new world. She’s still the same spirit and reincarnation as all previous Avatar’s, that didn’t change. It was definitely a sad thing to see, and it’s mostly nostalgia making it bad, but it can bring much more development and improvement to the timeline of the show. The previous avatar cycle still exists in the history and if there’s a prequel like a Kyoshi series for example, we’ll see them again. They’re still apart of the storyline, just not the part after Korra. I wonder if it’s still possible to meet a past Avatar somewhere in the spirit world though, since Tenzin was able to meet a version of Aang’s spirt before the connection to the avatar was severed. Maybe they’re still there somewhere since we don’t know much about how avatar spirits works. Another interesting thing is that the sancuatry with the avatar statues seemed to have been leading to Aang being the last one there, with Aang taking last spot in the middle. I don’t think this was planned initially, but it makes a cool improvement to the theory and they could make a second temple for the statues of the second decum millenium of Avatars, starting with Korra.

The live action movie was the 1st editor thing I saw. I loved the live Action movie, I always wish the would have done more. It left me won in more. So just recently I had to watch the Anomie series. More Avatar could never be a bad thing!
i'm surprisingly a bit worried about more avatar, but i just hope they give their plans justice; and hopefully plan the story and writing properly.
the last avatar: korra's opening the spirit portals made possible for other humans to find the lion turtles and merge with other spirits and bend more than one element. and so, korra becomes the last avatar.
and as she also destroyed the connection with past avatar, their is no way yet to find out who the original avatar is.

One thing that would be cool, and they wouldnt have to write a thing, just make animated series/films on the comics, cuz those comics are pretty excellent. If the Avatar Studio doesnt do anything with them, I'd just find that a huge missed opportunity.

It's nice to see it introduced to a new generation. Avatar was a true game-changer. The first time I've experience storytelling that changed me. Even as a child. One of those things that aged so well and was even better as an adult. I'm remaining hopeful. I also liked Korra so I'm 2/2 right now. Except for the movie. Maybe we could get solid live-action content. The source material deserves it.

The reason of LOK bad quality in the first 2 books was because Nick said to the creators they could only have one season so they had to compress all that in 11 episodes and they did that with the second as well and the third too but they creators in book 3 catch that Nick only care about the rating so they took the risk and took the risk of take their time with the history and even left the final open and then we had book 4 that was very good as well.
This time Nick is giving them complete freedom to do what they want and the creators are doing this unlike the live action, c'mon guys is not bad be positive for a while, The creators also made Korra book 3 and the Kyoshi novels as well. This are very VERY good news.
I have been a fan for years since 05. I plan on tattooing the elements on my body. My personal wish is to see how different martial arts could be drawn into bending. I do think more series could be great take their time and breath and think. Ill start this post by saying i practice Goju ryu karate , and krav maga.

All I care about is consistency in the lore and history. No going back to the black and white good vs. evil plot. Balance has been the main philosophy of this show and whenever is deviates from it things feel off. Ravaa and Vaatu I'm looking at you, why do you truly exist?

I was afraid the only avatar stuff we would have is the Live action show on Netflix the two creators departed on lol. Most importantly it’s ANIMATION! Not more live action or etc. I can’t wait what their gonna do! Is the animated avatar the search as a movie or the original gang of team Avatar! Is the spinoff gonna be wit Avatar kiyoshi or Roku. Are we getting a Avatar animated series in a new era past korra? Are we getting a Avatar sorta Naruto shippuden where their older and we see that time period in full? 4:32 Despite the many rumors, "4th season" never was actually planned. The creators themselves stated that they planned the series to end when the war ends. Surely, they did think about it, but it never got into development. Instead of 4th season, they planned a movie, which would be about the search for Ursa, which is why the cliffhanger in the finale. 4th season is just so massively rumored that many ppl actually believe it was going to be.
would be cool to get a story where the avatar isnt even the main character, but someone in the world we get to see for example. we have 10,000 years of history to explore or perhaps something set in the future.
What I would like to see from Avatar Studio is a dive into the past. I would like to see series' or movies based on the most notable past lives of the Avatar, rather than the next Avatar in line. Preferably Avatar Kyoshi's story! She was metal AF!
I really glad you talked about fans having mixed reactions. Yes, ATLA was great, but Korra was far from perfect. And the movie. Oh Heavens, the movie.
I sure all fans want Avatar to succeed, but the concerns are still very real. No one wants to see Avatar crash and burn. After all, fans have been burned before.
Personally, I've always loved Avatar for the Bending. As a science teacher, I love how bending lines up with scientific trends. I don't want to see bending become "just another super power" and loose what made it special to begin with.
But as always we should look for the sliver lining. (But not eat it Zuko.)

Would love to see more civilizations besides east Asian influence- so we have Aztec influence (sun warriors), there was that deckhand on zuko’s ship in The Storm that had a French accent, we have Bedouin/Arab inspired influence (sandbenders), even southern USA(swamp benders). I would like to see more south Asian/Indian inspired (like guru pathik), Australian Aboriginal(precedence being Sokkas boomerang), tribal African influence, South American influence, but also Scandinavian influence like Viking waterbenders!
I liked how korra learned air bending by doing modern bending sparing,i don't really remember much after that.

I agree with all the points made in this video.
The only thing that I can think of, as a cautionary tale, is to look at companies like EA... the distributers that are so desperate to capitalize on things that end up rushing everything, resulting almost always in mediocre results.
I hope Paramount doesn't do that, overworking Studio Avatar and forcing them in rushing tons of things beucase of that.
Another (possible) thing to look out for is the "MCU formula". With mass production of content, there's a tendency towards a certain.. standarization. "Oh, this formula worked a lot, this other one not, so from now on we will be sticking only to this formula, the safe formula". It's not necessarely bad, but sometimes it CAN result in a undermining of creative potential.

As long as these shows and movies can get talented writers and directors like Aaron Ehasz and Dave Filoni, they should be good with direction from DiMartino and Konietzko
i do hope they go back in time and not the avatar after korra. as much as i loved korra i think that if we go to the next avatar the technology will be to evolved bc if you look at season 4 with the giant robot thing it was really hard to defeat it. so i think that if we go forward in time the avatar isn't that important anymore because technology will be more powerful
Honestly I'm not worried about competition with the streaming services. You can get Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ for about $42 a month. With Paramount+ being $10 a month for ad free you can get all of the services for just over $50 which is still cheaper than a cable package.

I missed the time people talked about this show thats kinda when I joined
Later I was still in the fandom and then it blew up and it became super popular again which is good yet
I think a new series could definitely work
I’m not as excited to see the new series with a fricking IPhone or something
But I think they coulf make it work if the OG creators are in charge and let then have their freedom

As long as Bryke are apart of the projects, they won’t be money driven.
If they were truly money driven, they would have stayed with the live action series.
i'm both right. i'm really excited about this but I'm also worried since this is still being produced by Nickelodeon. how ever, the fact that nick has a different staff to what they had during korra, the fact they've invested in an *entire studio* not just a couple seasons, and the fact that as you pointed out if they mess up they'll mess up hugely. so I'm cautiously excited as I hope for the best but repair for the worst.
The way people were ungrateful for korra. we don't deserve a new story.

@@demetrivilliers1692 the show was a failure dear. It couldn't do anything on its own. It always resulted to "remember this or remember that" from the previous show and pandering. Korra ended up being the most hated main character in animation history and worst avatar ever. People like me saw it for what it was and still see it for what it was GARBAGE....plain and simple

I disagree about the Netflix stuff. Netflix wanted to do a show that takes place after ATLA ended and make it for adults since all the ATLA fans are in there 20s now but the creators just wanted to remake the same 3 books. these creators are handy capping them selfs

Honestly, they could just do what LOK did over again, but add another 3-4 episodes each season so the last episodes of the seasons don't feel rushed.
S1 was great until suddenly Korra had airbending with no character growth, because it was rushed. I'm also a bit iffy on the whole "Amon was a bloodbender all along thing". I think they could've done something more interesting with his character than just "Ooh look, bloodbending without a full moon!".
S2 started off great with the war between the north and southern water tribes, bringing up brilliant moral questions such as "should the Avatar even intervene at all", but then it fell flat because, as you guessed, it was rushed. Watch Hello Future Me's video on the Beginnings episodes. He perfectly captures what's wrong with S2, and until that point I had no problems with it.
S3 is the only one I have no complaints for, Zaheer is by far my favourite villain of LOK, and almost everything is done well there.
S4 was again good with the setup of Bolin and Varrick being on the run and Kuvira bringing back the authoritarian "We will spread our wealth" mentality of the old Fire Nation, and it had an interesting approach to Korra's trauma/PTSD. But then it fell flat in the end because it was rushed, focusing more on shock than it did good storytelling. I mean, come on, they could've gone for something a bit more origninal than just "Look, big mech with LASERS!", especially considering they already did the whole "kaiju/Pacific Rim" shtick in S2 (though that was the worst part of S2).

Seems odd that it won’t be on Netflix given that A:tLA and Korra were huge successes on there, but I guess it makes sense given the creative differences.

I think this will be a good thing, I just hope they make quality content and not focus too much on quantity and hopefully they don't change what has already been established, any type of full reboot would be tragic in my opinion

A topic I would like you to discuss is the possibility of there now being TWO avatars: One for Raava, and one for Vaatu. During Harmonic Convergence, Vaatu fused With Unalak in nearly an Identical way to Raava and avatar Wan. At the end of Vaatu's battle with Korra, She effectively Killed Unalak. He was spiritually dispersed, and I sincerely doubt a man as passionate as Unalak would go into hiding after one defeat.
My point being, Why _wouldn't_ Vaatu make a reincarnated Chaos Avatar just like Raava? If so, There would be two avatars: a Chaos Avatar and an Order Avatar. furthermore, Raava being cut off from all avatars before Korra puts the next future avatars on equal footing; They both only have one past life to pull off of when in the avatar state, or for wisdom. With the rapidly advancing technologies In the earth kingdom and abroad, Idealogical quandries will crop up, which leaves an interesting position for these two new avatars: one will be pulled towards Chaos, and another towards Order. However, as it is stated at the start of every episode of Korra; "only the avatar can master all four elements, and bring balance to the world" which outlines the avatar's purpose as bringing Balance. Why would it not be the same for a world with two avatars in it? They must debate and fight to bring balance to the world, each representing an opposing yet equally necessary force, with equal spiritual might. These two new avatars would be eternal rivals, but also possibly work together; Fighting at times but agreeing at others to find the best and most balanced way to bring both the essential forces of chaos and order to a balanced state in all four nations.
I would Love to hear your thoughts on this matter, and politely request a response.
the chaos avatar would be Significantly weaker than the Order avatar because the Chaos avatar would not have acess to 4 elements Only His Original Element Because the lion turtles that Give out the bending powers are gone
@@katzentoast420 Are they though? Aang was visited, then Korra, and who's to say it has to be the one who originally gave fire to do so? There wasn't historically a lion turtle of taking away bending, or of giving it back, so I believe a young earth kingdom child will be visited by a lion turtle, whi says something along the lines of "Your purpose is to bring balance, you will do so through chaos, another will through order." And give the other elements.

More of something is never bad. You can always ignore its existence but you can't just conjure more show out of the ether. If its bad we can laugh at it and enjoy the good stuff. Its its good we got something good and should be happy.

That you loved one series, why not love the spin-off? It's like a book series! The same thing is said, and the series even mentions Atla!

Whatever they do where there will be interesting content, I love it.
It might be hard to say goodbye to korra just as it was to say goodbye to ang, but we will succeed and get used to it.

Korra had a lot of issues and people are not going to love a show just because it's a spin off and because it mentions the previous show. People don't love a movie's sequel just because it's a sequel. In fact, they expect certain things from it and criticze it when it fails to deliver.

the legend of korra had no problems, I love the two series equally, both interesting and suspenseful.

Nobody said the animation was bad. The writing was. Just because someone created something doesn't mean I (or anyone else) will like it. Art ia criticized all the fucking time and artists and writers know that. Not everyone will like their creation.
