@@dxp96 but when oxygen is in blood, it's no longer gas, thus no longer air, this would be work for bloodbender. Plus some feats of Power, especialy dark side are just not possible through air bending, especialy in space, when air isn't around.
It's sad to see the air nomadic culture, teachings and beliefs being swept away and replaced with offensive and aggressive attacks. I'm glad to see there is still some of the culture left through aangs family.
honestly surprised that super-speed wasn't mentioned... Aang did it when getting medicine for his friends, and it was played off as a sort of joke in in the show but an ability like that would be ridiculously useful
Airbending superspeed is basically warpdrive technology on a human scale: lower the pressure of air in front of you and increase it behind you, you'll be pushed forward a long way with each step without having to exert much force in your legs. It's ridiculously useful but if used irresponsibly it can leave a trail of destruction behind you (but so does Toph's earthboost, on a grander scale, the kid just created a new mountain chain by running and must have caused a lot of earthquake related damage)
@@r2b217 it can be done like that, but physically speaking creating a pressure bubble around you that removes the air in front of you and pushes it behind you would result in greater speed, and being a master Airbender I doubt Aang wouldn't notice it
I just want to add that when aang was fighting lord Ozai in the avatar state, he literally threw an airblast strong enough to blow right through pillars of stone
Yea, when you really think about it, The fire nation was really at a huge disadvantage in trying to conquer the world: every other bending technique can put out a fire with ease. If the Airbenders were more violent in nature, which is a possibility once avatar korra is done and it moves to an earthbender. I can see a good few airbenders being able to suffocate an entire city within a minute. Let's just be glad airbenders were so peaceful and nonviolent.
Airbending is definitely the stealthiest element you can make silent footsteps, use astral projection for espionage, use invisible attacks, and kill someone silently.
Same it’s more spiritual but since nomads are all about meditation people assume only air nomads can do this and it’s a very rare skill not just something any one can learn
@@allantan2144 perhaps but spiritual projection is quite airbendy in its looks and nature. Being see through, floating and being able to be everywhere.
That's why he was able to stand a chance against Toph. She only heard him when he wanted her to. In the first episode we see Toph when she was called Blind Bandit.
Fozia Rasheed looking at what Yang Chen can do in the Avatar State, Aang could easily blow off all the airships from the sky during the final battle. But yeah at that time he doesn't have access to his Avatar State so...
I was always annoyed that "sound-bending" was never explored. Sound is literally just air vibrations, so an air-bender should be able to do anything from creating zones of silence to creating explosively loud noises.
@@bluebloxbang6105 I don't think you understand how sound works. Sound is generated by vibration that is carried through the air (or water/solid). If someone could control air, they would have the capacity to amplify those waves, cut off those waves, create those waves and all sorts of other things.
I’ve always been baffled that the writers never thought of sound bending. It’s the perfect answer to lightning bending, blood bending, and metal bending for air benders. Sound is just vibrations in the air, so it makes sense that a skilled air bender would be able to manipulate those vibrations. Such a technique would allow an air bender to create audio illusions to trick their combatants, which falls in line with the air benders’ pacifistic teachings. With this technique, one could create mimicry noises, redirect sounds, or maybe even throw their voice to whisper secret messages into a distant person’s ear. On the more hostile end of things, a sound bender could create loud, piercing tones to stagger enemies, and even cause deafness. The creative possibilities are immense!
Aang did it a lot- hell when he shouts, it's a megaphone all the time. You can hear how other characters shout versus how he would. However, I don't know how Aang would incorporate it in his fighting style... shattering eardrums? My god, it's good that air nomads were pacifists.
Remember when sandbenders took Appa, Aang's emotions were out of control. He was so mad that he killed a giant bee with his airbending. He didn't push it, because it died on impact. Like an air slash. It was really a powerful scene because knowing Aang, he doesn't want to kill anything if possible. All life is precious to him, but he was beyond his limits. Appa being his best friend and last memory of his past, we can understand why. So in my opinion, air is the dominant element. It can slash through anything and is basically everywhere.
@@itriedtojimoutbutfail8498 I don't think so, Aang was protecting Momo and didn't want to lose someone else. Look at the scene again, and look at Aang's face. 100% sure he killed it. Even Momo looks intimidated by him.
@@Nocappucino97 okay like he said he has been told that even a tiny spider's life is precious so I believe it's just a knockdown rather than kill it.If that wind is supposed to kill it,it'll cut it into half rather than just knocking down

I like the theory that the reason the people gifted with Airbending after Harmonic Convergence *only* hailed from the Earth Kingdom, is because they are actually descendants of Air Benders who fled the Air Temples during the genocide, or had possibly left before the genocide began. According to the Lost Adventures, released in 2011, many Airbenders actually survived the initial attack, probably those who were away from the temples on the day of the comet, as well as a few who may have fled. According to Zhao in the comic, the surviving Nomads were hunted down, or trapped, until only Aang remained, however knowing the Airbenders' philosophy and training of wit over muscle, and their pacifist nature, I find it very hard to believe that Sozin managed to kill every single one of them. In this theory, if you aren't already familiar, the story goes like this: The surviving nomads flee the air temples, and while some are captured and killed, others would have likely assimilated into Earth Kingdom towns and communities, fearing the consequences of being discovered... inevitably many of these nomads would have married or had children. These children would have all been half-earth kingdom, and due to the trauma of the genocide and the fear of Fire Nation, their Airbending abilities may have been suppressed, and over the years, subsequent generations would have had their Airbending completely bred-out due to the overwhelming gene pool of Earthbenders and non-benders in their bloodline. Keep in mind Airbending is a very spiritual element, unlike all of the other nations, Air Nomads were all benders due to their heightened spirituality, if something were to happen, and they were to lose that spirituality - say, if a war were to break out and all the airbenders were hunted down to near-extinction, it's possible that their children might not have inherited that spiritual connection, but would have still had the same genetic code that physically allowed them to bend. So then, a hundred and seventy-ish years after the genocide, harmonic convergence happens, and suddenly hundreds of (seemingly)random people who previously had no bending abilities whatsoever, suddenly became Airbenders overnight... coincidentally, all of them are Earth Kingdom citizens.... almost as if there were some event that would have connected the Earth Kingdom to Airbenders. Now, obviously, as all their airbending ancestors would have died over a century ago, it's impossible to know for sure that this is true... but, we do know the airbending lineage of at least one of the "new" airbenders - Bumi... Not the Earth King, but Aang's son... Bumi was born a non-bender, to a family composed entirely of benders, technically it is possible as Katara's family was made up of mostly non-benders, but keep in mind - all Air Nomads were born as benders... so it could be that Bumi was already an airbender, but due to a spiritual block, couldn't access his abilities. In other words, what if all the people who were "gifted" with Airbending, were actually already Airbenders, whose distant ancestors had lost their abilities due to a lack of connection to the spirits, and when Harmonic Convergence came, it simply re-opened their chi-paths by reconnecting them with the spirits. It's just a theory, but in my opinion, that explanation is a lot cooler, and makes a lot more sense than simply saying they were just "given" the abilities because spirit magic.
The Arctic Gamer nice theory. It doesn't explain why the parents of the new airbenders aren't airbenders as well after the Harmonic Conversion though. If the HC awakened the spiritual connection in the descendents of airbenders, the ability should be awakened in their parents and siblings too. Perhaps the HC chooses randomly?
@@Knightsofallah Bending doesn't seem to be completely hereditary though , sokka wasn't a waterbender but katara was, unless there is a rule that every child born specifically to an airbending parent has to be an airbender , in which case there would always have been more airbenders if this theory is canon
You know the REALLY terrifying thing about the asphyxiation technique? The guy was doing it wrong. If he just did it the other way around, forced excess air into the lungs instead of pulling it out, it would have instantly ruptured the majority of the alveoli and resulted in the victim coughing up blood, which would then wind up getting into any alvioli that survived the initial assault. That's a single instant attack that results in a fatal injury, even if it doesn't kill instantly. The aspyxiation technique would take around 2 minutes to kill a person, that's how much oxygen stays in the blood in terms of ability to keep the brain alive. Ending the technique any time before the 2 minutes passes means the brain survives and they can recover. As for the lung rupture technique I just described, it's a single move that's over in an instant and leaves them having to deal with choking on their own blood. It would take about the same 2 minutes for them to die, but they will not be able to recover on their own. Their only hope is to get a water bender to heal them, but seriously, what will the water bender do? They would have to force water into the damaged lungs. As such, the only healing method for the injury inflicted by this attack will only speed their death. There would be no way to survive after becoming the victim of the lung rupture technique.
Air Bender is a perfect bending techniques for assassination, they don't leave any traces unlike the other 3 (burn, dust and wet), imagine you could bend the oxygen within someone's blood and then you manipulate it to burst from within, you could blow up people into pieces in an instant or imagine you could manipulate the nitrogen within the air, you could make people freeze from within by forcing nitrogen to fill up the body, or just stock up some non colored and odourless poison gas in a jar or bottle and when you open up the jar you could silently control the gas to sip through someone noses and in a minute death is inevitable
@@rasyidihramsyah7992 Technically, the oxygen in a person's blood is in a solid form since it is bound to hemoglobin. As such, air bending could not affect it. For that matter, all the compounds in the blood are bound in some way that would not have them considered as air. Oxygen is bound to hemoglobin, CO2 is bound to bicarbonate, Nitrogen is bound to... well... everything. Nitrogen is pretty much used as a building block in most of the important compounds in the body. I wouldn't think too much about air in its components when air in its proper proportions is already so deadly. We haven't even gotten into what airbending's augmented form might be, its equivalent of fire's lightning bending, earth's magma bending, and water's blood bending. My bet is on vacuum bending, that can be really nasty. Even still, I'm not even sure air NEEDS an augmented form to be extremely deadly.
Not sure if it's canon but I'm convinced that the airbenders were pacifists not out of choice but out of necessity. They knew they needed to be pacifists to maintain balance, because air is crazy powerful. Also, it has been confirmed that the characters can't see the air being bent; the animation is for the audience's benefit only.
In Raava's era the ancestors of the Airnomads only uses air to avoid conflict, have a good relationship with the spirits and appear to worship Raava the spirit of peace.
I didn’t know that was confirmed, well that makes sense on why Korra was able to use air bending to counter Amon’s psychic blood bending because he can’t see Air, but he can see the other elements. That makes Air even more dangerous so it’s without a doubt the most powerful element
Yeah, I believe Kyoshi's mother, who was an airbending master, lost her ability to airbend after becoming a criminal. "But her airbending suffered from a spiritual taint".
Personally, I think that what Zaheer did to the Earth Queen was what Monk Gyatso did on a much larger scale with the Firebenders he killed. My thoughts is fire can't spread without air present and if he pulled all the air from the room they were in they could not fight back and all of them including Gyatso suffocated and died there.
Galvin Greene So he kept suffocating them all till he ran out of breath as well? Wouldn’t he be able to take a deep air bending breath after they all died? I feel as an airbender he should have had a greater lung capacity, so he should have taken a deep breath, suffocated the fire Benders, and then take a breath after they died.
Mr. Anonymous I feel his human nature to breath and fight for air should have kept him from physically suffocating himself. You know what I mean? Gyatso I mean.
Mr. Anonymous Gyatso killed all those Fire Benders in the room he was in when Aang found his skeleton. He was surrounded by dead fire nation bodies, so it’s safe to assume he killed a few before dying himself.
In the show we have seen many ways to disarm benders: For earthbenders, remove the earth. Keep them in a metal or wooden platform in the sea. For waterbenders, keep them in a dry hot place. For firebenders, keep them in a cold damp place. But you cannot disarm an airbender, since air is everywhere. Airbenders can bend their own breath, literally creating shockwaves just by blowing air off their lungs. To supress an airbender you would have to kill them.
@@kefkapalazzo1 Probably because they wanted to avoid narrative power creep and had a specific arc in mind. LoK really struggled with the same problems as anime like Dragonball and Naruto where they just kept having to add new, more over the top abilities that end up taking away from the story.
@@Jckdrllng yeah i can understand that for the avatar state but not for flying. i dont think that makes aang OP. i mean, im pretty sure if he didnt hold back, he'd probably kill azula without the avatar state lol
If an Airbender went crazy, they could increase air pressure and rupture ears or force air into people's lungs making them explode. Furthermore, by creating a vacuum, water and fire are completely neutralized.
Considering someone can die from a 7 foot drop quite easily i imagin an Airbender could launch someone up 20+ feet and end them or cripple them. Or just lanch someone into a wall at mach2
While Zaheer’s suffocation technique was slow and ineffective in combat, it was a makeshift version. If you look at the scene where Aang discovers Gyatso’s body, we notice a few things. There were dozens of fire nation bodies, no structural damage and no scorch marks anywhere on Gyatso or the room. These were dozens of Sozin’s comet empowered fire benders, yet no visible fire damage. Explanation, he created a large scale vacuum that suffocated all of the fire benders, as well as preventing their flames. He kept up the vortex until he died of exhaustion (he was an old man after all), taking dozens of fire benders with him in the process. In that vortex, fire wouldn’t work since there’s no oxygen, water would freeze before it could be bent effectively, and all other benders would quickly suffocate, without enough time to focus on their bending. This technique could possibly be the greatest crowd control and negation move in all of bending. It could effectively counter most benders, even techniques with superior fire power such as lava or combustion bending would be useless if the bender was caught in the vortex. This is of course all hypothetical, but it’s crazy to think that there’s a potential air bending technique that could eclipse even blood bending in effectiveness.
I've always wondered why Zaheer even felt the need to make a vortex, couldn't the air just be bent out of the lungs of anyone and kept out for ~2 minutes?
but the fire in most of the scenes never left marks, the firebending flames most of the time when they are used if they touch any object they extinguish
@@LancesArmorStriking i think it cant be, if you notice amon (or other blood benders) never remove water from humans or animals, maybe the body's chi naturally prevents the bending of elements within the body
3rd Way From the words of the show alone, the Fire Nation AMBUSHED the Air Temples without their awareness and used the might of Sozin’s Comet. There’s a lot of theories on the attack, but one is that the Fire Nation attacked when the air nomads were likely during a resting or meditation time when they’ve let their guards down. Many other theories to the genocide is that because the air nomads are a nomadic group of people, it’s likely that Sozin attacked during a holiday or festivity that correlated perfectly with the arrival of the comet, so that 1) a majority of the nomads are in one area and 2) due to whatever celebration is being held, would let their guard down. From the episode The Southern Air Temple, the airbenders would’ve put up a good fight nonetheless judging from the scene with the Fire Narion soldiers corpses around Gyatso and littered throughout the area. But when you’re caught off guard and attacked by the enemy using the power equivalent of a boost up, yeah it’s gonna be pretty hard to fight back.
I wouldn't say they were weak. Their passivity was their downfall, yes, but I imagine that said passivity was a result of the destructive potential air as an element has. In its rawest, uncontrolled form it can be dangerous to anyone and anything. An airbender could kill someone by forcing the air within a body to expand, or by drawing it out, or stopping it from entering someones lungs - and that is just a tiny aspect of what it may be capable of. Even IF it was weaker in a direct, head-on collision with some other element (which we have seen is not the case), everyone would lose anyways. Everyone has to breathe, after all. Thus, I'd say their passivity came not from weakness, but from the awareness of the destruction their element could bring.
Didn't the Lion Turtle mention that the different forms of bending are actually one? The differences are simply constructed by humans. For example if you have complete control of air can't you vibrate individual molecules of oxygen fast enough to heat them up and set them on fire? Edit- Guru Pathik: Even the separation of the four elements is an illusion. If you open your mind, you will see that all the elements are one. Four parts of the same whole. Even metal is just a part of earth that has been purified and refined.
but each person can still only bend one element at the end of the day. that's how it works here bud. I don't think any form of meditation or enlightenment is gonna turn an Airbender into the avatar. if that was the case, there would've been avatars flying around a long time ago. I think he means that the concept of the bending is one, not necessarily the element. because we saw zuko kind of make a fire wall which is a waterbending technique. and iroh's ability to redirect lightning from water benders. if you can draw from the other bending principles, you can truly master your element, and bring out its full power
Water benders are the perfect example. An advanced waterbender has the ability to FREEZE water... that involves removing the heat from the water... according to the laws of thermodynamics, that heat taken from the water has to go somewhere... I assume that in the series, the heat is simply dissipated. However, if a waterbander can learn how to further control the heat that they have taken from water, this would get interesting.
@@Quothos I think the water bender is simply altering the molecular structure to change the form of the water. at the end of the day, this is a hard magic system, a water bender can bend water, and only water. sure, there is a lot of science involved, but this is a fantasy at the end of the day. they gotta stick to their rules.
I am impressed with Aang's willingness and ability to stick to his non-lethal principles, but I am also impressed with Yang Chen's practicality. "You have a job to do, just cap him for the greater good."
I think the point of putting Yang Chen in direct opposition to Aang's determination to stay pacifist is to demonstrate that these teachings are beliefs and philosophy, and there are those who will choose to follow it to the end like Aang because he genuinely believes it is good and cannot let himself be weighed down by the world's call for violence. But also there are people like Yang Chen who believes sometimes capping is necessary. There's never a right or wrong, it just comes down to the person who makes that decision. Truly poetic.
Storms are hot air, mixing with cold air. Hurricanes and tornadoes are storms that mix at super increased speeds. Airbenders could theoretically storm bend. Just putting that out there.
10:12 a rather fast method of killing a person with air bending would be to force air into the lungs, instead of pulling it out. It doesn't matter how much you try to breathe if your lungs has completely ruptured.
Or just throw a wind blade at their neck, slicing their head clean off or form an air drill around your hand and shove it into a person's chest. Or throw a compressed air bomb at them that would explode with concussive force on impact, causing body displacement, and if it's strong enough dismemberment.
@@dirty7444 Well we dont know how the fight would end but if P. Li didnt interfere with the fight, I am pretty sure Tenzin would have taken them out. Every element has its peaks and all of them are powerful. For example, bloodbending is extremely powerful and not every water bender can do it even if its full moon. On the other hand, some can do it just like its nothing. Tenzin is a master of air bending and you can say that he is powerful. You just can't take a powerful bender 1 on 1. But in the end, Tenzin lost and thats the end of it
Tenzin's fighting style was more based on keeping an enemy away and exhausting them as a result. There aren't many ways he'd be able to quickly off the Red Lotus midcombat while also being taken from every side. ...Then again Gyatso managed to kill more than 8 Fire Nation soldiers before his demise so anything is possible.
That’s why I love the LOK, using Zaheer they showed us just how terrifying Airbending truly is and is without a doubt the strongest Element and really the strongest element is based on what the bender chooses to do with it and Zaheer proved that
@@evandugas7888 No, that was a family line thing. Regular waterbenders can likely not even bloodbend at all, and even if they can, it's only during a full moon.
First and foremost, airbending is the only element that the enemy can't see. It is made visible for the viewers, but none of the characters in the series can not see the air, being bended. Which gives the air nomads the biggest advantage.
Yeah! I always loved how that was pointed out in ATLA. The hunt for Toph started because The Boulder said that Aang and Toph "just took a dive" and he didn't "see anything to hit", or Zuko's late answers to anything that Aang does when in combat. Earthbenders are only able to fight air because they put up the defense of rock before it hits, which was already established to be greater against. I really,, really love airbending.
Actually that's false. When they were breaking out of the boiling rock prison Aang created a dmall wind tunnel/barrel that allowed his friends to drop rocks into and shoot like a cannon. I don't remember the episode exactly but it's definitely visible
Tazim Khan well I’m just going to label that as inconsistency as no characters seem to be able to see airbending and it makes sense that you can’t it’s basically controlled wind of course you can’t see it
Actually whether or not a character can see airbending is always been inconsistent like Azula could divide it when fitting Aang in Omoshu, Zuko could tell when it was coming when fighting Aang on Ember island and Kuvira never seemed to have a issue dodging and blocking it when fighting Korra all suggesting they can see it coming.
it is inconsistent in the series, but it appears that while they could see the rotational effects, most of the straight forward blasts are invisible to the characters
The thing is that the air bending aang does no one can actually see it, The Show Just Lets You See The Air Aang Bends so basically what I'm trying to say is that we can see the air bending on the screen but the characters in avatar can't see it
Love the video but I think you really skimmed past Monk Gyatso vs the Fire Nation soldiers too quickly. Remember, Monk Gyatso was able to take out a room full of Fire Nation soldiers DURING Sozin's Comet, where the soldiers would have been at the height of their power. If this doesn't show how truly powerful Air as an element is, idk what does. I've seen theories of how he did it and some that I have liked includes mass asphyxiation technique that Zaheer used on the Earth Queen OR sucking out all the oxygen in the room effectively taking out the fire, killing the soldiers, but also sacrificing himself. This explains why the soldiers are lying on the floor but his stance remains meditative. Again, love the video!!
I came here to post basically that same point. Sozin’s Comet was supposed to boost a firebender’s power 10×, a full order of magnitude (basically analogous to going Super Saiyan). So count the number of fire nation soldiers, nearly all of whom were probably firebenders (since they needed the foot-jet flight capability to even get up there, and even the best firebenders can only do that during Sozin’s Comet), and multiply by ten to get the equivalent number of normally powered firebenders Giyatsu could’ve taken out with whatever technique he used. I had a hypothesis that in the missing years between Avatar Wan and the Air Nomads, there was a period of time where the Airbender peoples weren’t so peaceful. We had Fire _Nation,_ Water _Tribes,_ Earth _Kingdom,_ and Air _Nomads,_ but they weren’t actually _nomads._ They lived mainly in temples rather than traveling from place to place as true nomads do. Did they used to have another name in forgotten history? Air _Empire,_ perhaps? A very feared and warlike race of conquerors that pretty much only bloodbenders and comet-boosted firebenders would have a chance against, if even then. Then some Air Empire warlord discovers a new technique of removing the air entirely from a region. True vacuum-bending (as someone else mentioned in another subthread). A single powerful-enough airbender could take out an entire army this way. But when they actually tried it on some captured prisoners of war or convicts or whatever, the victims didn’t just suffocate. It was worse than that (think being sucked out an airlock of a spacecraft into the vacuum of space). The result so horrified them that they abandoned war and conquest and started on the path of becoming the peaceful monks we know, giving up their conquered and even their original native territory at first and traveling from place to place making amends to their formerly conquered subject peoples as best they could (thus becoming the Air _Nomads,_ a name that stuck even after they established the Temples and were no longer true nomads). The teachings of peace were needed because they had been such a warlike people before, that violence was in their nature, and only strict monastic teachings from infancy (thus the communal raising of offspring from birth) could give them the spiritual grounding needed to overcome those urges to violence and conquest. Granted, this is at least partly inspired by _Star Trek_ mythos of the Vulcans originally being at least as violent and warlike as the Romulans, until embracing Surak’s ways of logic and peace and suppressing their emotions.
I've always liked the theory of him sucking out all the oxygen and sacrificing himself because the selflessness ties back to air nomad core values really nicely. However, why didn't he just create a sphere of air around his own head so he could breathe oxygen? Surely the oxygen wouldn't be able to escape, so he would prevent the soldiers from fire-bending while still able to breathe. Curious to hear other opinions on this.
“But everything changed when the air nomads attacked” That would be tuff, especially when bending air out of someone’s lungs no one would stand a chance!
Yes . airbending can do earthbending and firebending. They just need to make the air lift the ground, throw the earth, lift and shape the water and put pressure on it
@@jadenchamoun6785 Dude Airbendering literally has the best defense against firebending they only died because 1 they were pacifists and 2 the fire nation had sozin's comet plus a huge military to kill them like gyatso literally like 20 firebenders what
Higher forms of air can be pressure, sound, flight (already seen), etc. I don't really think the astral projection is part of the airbending skill, doesn't connect to the element of air at all, but more on the character of an airbender.
The monks are a very spiritual culture. They inherited airbending, the strongest element, because they are the wisest nation in Avatar. Also since their ancestors were so close to the spirits and lived peacefully with them, they can do the astral projection because of their natural link with the spirit world.
@@khw5916 In response to the waterbenders can bend anywhere, so can Airbenders. With even more proficiency than its other contemporaries. Since anywhere you are there is always air unless you're literally underwater.
@@khw5916 To be fair, as was elaborated somewhat in this video, the air nomads that originally discovered and developed airbending never intended for it to be used in any way shape or form as a way to cause harm. The other elements literally have a thousand year head start in their race for military dominance, and its in part because the air nomads simply had no interest in participating to begin with. Zaheer, the airbender from The legend of Korra, had A FEW WEEKS to develop the self taught airbending style that was actually, probably for the first time since its inception, MADE to maim and kill. Extrapolate that for a few decades, airbending would probably be just as strong (maybe stronger) than the other elements.
Poobs probably the strongest since they can pull air from your lungs xd Only their defense wouldn’t be to great, I assume ice objects and stones would go trough air easily in combat unless it’s like a really powerfull air bender that can put out a lot of pressure behind air attacks but for a “common” air bender those projectiles should penetrate their effort of blocking it with air, thats probably why aang dodges mostly I guess or like redirect projectiles that are coming his way instead of blocking
Whatcha mean though...... it was like the major key point of the story. The lack of air benders and the reason the fire nation is feared is because of when they showed their power and killed off "all" the air benders. If you mean that it wasn't used as much well of course it wasn't aang was the last one and already practiced it. But then watch korra or however you spell it. But also if you wish the air benders would've survived then that would negate the whole entire first season and its plot etc etc. So much more to add on but it's too much work, lol.
@@buddasteedy3937 oh don't get me wrong. Sorry. Not tryna flame him. I just wanted to state that a bigger presence of airbending would change the story completely.
The whole choking thing Zaheer did was very underrepresented. It wouldn't in fact be a slow death. If an Airbender could, in fact, create a vacuum around your head strong enough, it could suck out way more than just air, it could rip your internal organs out and rupture your eardrums (and would only take seconds) leaving you completely useless. It is also shown that bending takes focus, stability and good breathing so removing any benders air-supply abruptly like that would leave them as incapable of fighting back as any non-bender, so as a dueling ability it is unparalleled because it has no counter (also a whirlwind that stong and close to your face would completely impair your vision and hearing also). Also, sudden pressure changes like that are able to outright kill a person by rupturing blood vessels in the brain. And the technique could easily be turned into a useful skill against multiple foes. I'm sure with enough practice a well-trained bender could create a dozen if not dozens of air pockets like that choking multiple people at a time. I'd also like to point out the inconsistency of the show in regards to how much effort a technique like that actually takes to pull off. Zaheer is shown having to constantly create motion with his hands to keep the sphere going, but it's basically an air scooter except you're not riding it but putting it on a person's head. Aang has been able to keep an air scooter going for an extended amount of time without performing any movement beyond the initial forming of the sphere which only takes about a second at most. So according to the world's own logic, an airbender should be able to almost instantly create a spere around their opponent's head and then either just watch silently as they die or use the diversion to get up and personal to deliver the final blow. Also, you could just reverse the process and instead of sucking out air push air into the opponent's body rupturing their lungs and potentially even their stomachs which no one would survive and would also only take a couple seconds to achieve with the right amount of force (which should be easy enough if you can already create a tornado and air pressure strong enough to knock people back several feet.
Air bending would be invisible under most circumstanstes but let's remember that multible factors can make it visible. 1. Dust. 2. Dirt. 3. Moister like a fog. 4. Cold tempertures
And on that note could you slowly restrict oxygen or at least make the air super thin in one place so that if they are physically active they would suffer from altitude sickness or get knocked out before they knew what was happening you know by using the invisibility of air bending to your advantage
Yup, unless there is smoke, dust, vapor, or sand airbending is pretty much invisible and the fact they can use these other things for example to hide is also pretty cool. But fighting against an attack that you can't see does sound pretty scary. I kinda wish they had done more examples of invisible airbending, we only see that once in a while when aang is jumping or when he is flying we don't see the air but we know he is manipulating it but I wished they had done that in fights also from time to time. Show movement but not the bending and only the consequences, it would really drive home how powerful it can be. Water is still the best though!
Bruno Ss. It would really help in so many tricks and manipulations, making people think you can control gravity or just making a huge amount of wind pushing someone down into the dirt and holding them there
@@brunoss.3273 nope. you are simply wrong. Airbending is the best. you get to travel the world on a flying bison and a glider, you can get anywhere you want and get away from pretty much anything. And if you are skilled you can put someone down without killing them, like suspending them in the air or spinning them really fast until they're disorientated. Unless you want to go around killing people (or you are a sailor or stone mason) I can't think of an element I would want to be able to bend more than air. (and of course there is the lethality we can speculate about, like exploding someone's lungs with air-pressure, but I don't see any way to practice that technique, nor do I see an instance where I would use it) (But other than that I totally agree with you)
@@yoavjacoby8246 I mean, air bending is cool, but water bending is the most OP bending. Blood bending alone is the best sub bending facet, even if it can't be done without a full moon. Water bending is also just practical. I myself have always been partial to Earth Bending, and specifically metal bending (though it'd definitely be lava bending if I lived in world). Metal bending is human society as it is, is just the most practical.
I always knew it's really strong and Aang is just so defensive fighter so it may not always seem so powerful. But hell, I really wanted Airbenders to invent Sound Bending. Although it would probably be about as OP as blood bending and Zaheer was already a total monster without it.
@@warrenford2597 Bumi clearly won against him. It was a total mismatch. Katara interrupted his fight with Jet when Aang was on disadvantage. I would count Azula too if it wasn't for all these Dai Li. It's hard to predict if he would try to enter avatar state had the fight was still 2 vs 2.
@@Reality-Distortion aang was tryna run from jet, not fight. And if you looked when aang actually decided to fight jet, he clearly overpowered him with one attack.
@@menkirdennis6686 That doesn't really make a whole lot of sense for Aang to hold back. What will he do to him if he doesn't? Smash him against a tree? Wouldn't that be perfect (and not really that violent) solution while hundreds of innocent people are about to die? Imo he is just way too defensive.
Could use poisonous gas and send it literally anywhere. Stealth attacks, suffocation preventing fire benders from bending. Many many other things as well.
So the mention of the asfixiation technique got me thinking, what if instead of removing the air from someone's lungs you just create a bubble around them to keep air from getting in, while you focus on dodging and keeping up the bubble, as the guy is fighting to try getting you off he'll weaken pretty quickly, unable to breathe, even if suffocation takes five minutes you'll really only need to fight hard for two, by three they very likely won't be able to hardly get to you, and at four they blackout, now this could be a much longer time required depending on the person, but imagine if you had a team fight instead, their team slowly suffocating and dying while you're team keeps them off you
If an air bender controls all forms of air, then they could (in theory) control air vibrations and create a form of sound bending that could be good for offense
I think, if an airbender is talented and skilled enough, that they could possibly 'bend' other elements. Like how Aang used wind to blow away the large boulder that Toph launched at him (begore Aang learned to earthbend). Or if they understand the physics behind how fire and air interact, they could possibly use air to project fire (obviously from an existing source like a torch or attack from a firebender). Same for water, like how wind blows waves, an airbender could possibly manipulated how water moves, with the use of air. Can really go for about anything, since air is so versatile and possibly limitless with how it can interact with anything.
One question I always have why airbenders cannot sound band. Technically sound propagate through air therefore this should be able to manipulate sound.
Wow straight into the nose but you could knock people out with certain gasses like chloroformed that stuff so potent it will get you just by the gas comeing the rag
as a kid, i always would rather be a firebender but as i grew older, i became more drawn to airbending and now i would definitely want to be a airbender
Same except it was Earthbending, but as I grew up a little I wanted o be a water bender because of blood bending so I thought it was the strongest element, but now I want to be an Air Bender because it’s clearly the strongest element
@@nataliawashington872 i have always wanted to perfect airbending, maybe becouse airbending is painted as a defence and not an offence (i know abt zaheer but he was an exeption) and i have always been defensive in my life, only ever hurting someone when absolutely needed bc i cant flee. its a reflection of how u felt that makes u hunger for one element i think, a nice way to look at it
I've always wanted to be an airbender mainly because of being so mobile and free and having a flying bison and flying around on a staff and let's be honest there's no way those guys wouldn't smoke mad weed
for me as a kid I loved airbending because I relate to aang personality and philosophy. I am a quick thinker, I value freedom, I don’t like to fight people but if I have to I will hold back. Everytime I got into a fight I was always in the defensive. I am very agile and have a similar body type like aang. And now as a 17 year old I still want to be a airbending but I like firebending because I am more aggressive and driven
I'm surprised you didn't include when Aang took out that mosquito wasp. One of the most impressive display of force by an air bender in the show I think.
asphixiation, true flight, possibility of another technique similar to blood bending, aerokinesis (using air to simulate telekinesis), alternate bending techniques: sound bending and weather bending.
Depending on your creativity you could make pretty much any bending technique "the greatest bending technique". For example, you could fly with earth bending as long as you are wearing some metal, or, like blood bending, literally control/melt the bones of your opponent since bones are just minerals. You could manipulate steam with water bending and, as we all know, bend the water in living things (blood bending). You could do some almost unimaginable things with fire bending as it is the manipulation of energy itself. Things like halting all chemical reactions within the human body and any other object, or creating any kind of electromagnetic energy could be possible. The possibilities are practically endless.
*Overall Airbending pros outside combat* - you can basically fly (multiple ways) - full 3D movement - potential superspeed - potential weather controll - cool tricks at parties
I mean you can do all of that with fire bending (except for weather) and the same goes for water and earth except for flying, but even then they can basically “fly”
Not to mention being able to bend the air out of someone’s lungs, a person theorize that that’s what Gyatso did to the dead fire nation soldiers that surrounded his dead body, or did a move more advanced than that that sucked the air out of every Fire Nation soldier
@@nataliawashington872 good as that is, it’ll still take 3 minutes for people to die due to lack of oxygen, and if you have 5 guys on you, you have to concentrate for 3 minutes (at the very least) straight to kill them, also you don’t need air in your lungs to still fight, it would be hard but again if 5 people are on you and you’re pushing your limits keeping the air out while ALSO fighting them back, either you’ll lose concentration and they get their air back and keep fighting, or they kill you
@@whiskeyshaw8818 but Zaheer did that to the Earth Queen and she died. Also which is why is also said “or a move more advanced” as in to take out every solider in the room and then maybe died because he was exhausted (he is old
@@nataliawashington872 in my defense I just finished season one of LOK. I’m sure your claims are correct and honestly I agree with you, I’m just saying that It would take a lot out of people, average people/average Airbenders, instead of earth benders who could yeet a rock at someone’s skull or fire benders who could well, obviously they can kill you. And water benders can cut you open with water (since we see Aang and Katara literally cut through a steel support beam to destroy the drill). I guess my overall point is that air bending is much less deadly, and you can even see that through the fighting style. Air bending combat tends to be a lot more evasive maneuver and wait for your opponent to tire out. Whereas fire charges head on, earth stands their ground, and water just tends to go with the flow and turn the tides however possible (puns intended). From what I gather, Zaheer is the only one (shown to us and not theorized to have) who uses this form, either because it’s inhuman, it’s new, it’s extremely complicated, or a mixture. My bet is the third, since airbenders have an abundance of air, they wouldn’t need to concentrate on where they are getting the air. The only other time someone specifically targeted an area of air was Aang with the submarine, but he could actually see it in contrast to the water and the water benders were helping him out as well

imagine the potential for combat techniques like altering how air carries vibrations like sound waves to amplify them offensively or high and low air compression altering to mess with the breathing of who they fight, or compress air and use it to launch like a hard projectile?
What about sahir's ability to fly freely? I feel like that's the ultimate Airbending tecniche , just to remind you that Aang's master killed many firebenders before they died and that they were at 200% capacity thanks to the comet sozin just wanted to remind them that to take away many firebender with him it was a real beast.
the flight is not something everyone can do as it has very steep requirements... so using that to judge airbending wont work too well... it requires that the person give up all worldly possessions entirely... which is very rare to happen and cannot happen for the avatar as the avatars job is to protect the world which clashes with the requirement... however the avatar state is the exception as it is allowed then.

They lost home defense advantage when the fire nation got surprise+machine advantage+comet buff. Also, I doubt they had combat training other than evasion and airbending techniques. Even if they did, they need to know the strategies and tactics of war, which airbenders dont.
I think the teachings of all bendings were twisted down the centuries, and were taught in a different way to restrict the elements. I believe that bendings were meant to be used something like this: Fire was used more accurately, focused, and less destructive like an air bender Air was used more violently, and more destructive like a fire bender Earth was used less strictly, and more to do with turning defence into offence, like a water bender And Water was to do with persistency, like an earth bender I think this is how they were originally like, as Azula shows that if you bend the fire more precisely, with aim, it becomes more powerful and easier to use. And when she went berserk, her fire was still powerful, but not on the level of the controlled version of her. Zaheer showcases that using air violently leads to more power, if he used it the way that the normal airbenders did, then he wouldn’t be at the stage he was. Water is simply more powerful if used in a “toughen-up” method, as the water itself would be strong due to impact. It’ll also be more easier to use to evade, once again, linking to the powerful earth benders being patient. Earth would be way more powerful if it was used as a counter type of thing, also, Earth benders together are extremely powerful. The water and earth might not make that much sense as there isn’t any character that I can use as an example, however, you can imagine how they’d be if their styles were “swapped.”
Do you mind if I copy this down? I'm currently writing a My Hero Fanfiction with elements from ATLA and Naruto but not a full crossover with either of those series. I would like to have this to consider adding it to Izuku's "Quirk" bending skillset
spoiler alert for the Rise of Kyoshi: the airbender that was Avatar Kuruk's companion, and the closest thing to a father figure to Avatar Kyoshi, Master Kelsang was able to single handedly defeated a fleet of bandits in the open sea atop his air bison by creating his own made storm to destroy the ships and drown the bandits, earning him the title of The Living Typhoon. all in the name of keeping the peace and balance of the world without an Avatar, as they were still in search for the next Avatar in the cycle. seems the world really gets thrown into chaos and imbalance without an active Avatar keeping the peace and order. come to think of it, while the Avatar spirit Raava, is at "rest" or "inactive" like while the Avatar is still being searched for in the case of Kyoshi that took them too long to search and recognize (apparently the longest search in recorded history), or gone for a 100 years in the case of Aang, or even Korra's state of major injury and depression in just 3 year's time, Vaatu's influence, even when imprisoned or gone for the moment, would already start to spread.
Only realized now that monk kiatsu (idk the real spelling) is so powerful to defeat a lot of firebenders at close range during sozins comet time. Maybe he used zaheer's style of drawing air from all of their lungs at once so the area is not that damaged.
From what I know of traditions that deal with chi (Tai chi exercises, Qigong exercises, chakras, meridians, reflexology, EFT, acupuncture, grounding etc.), likely how it works is doing the opposite in balancing the chi. The basics of balancing the chi that’s common to all these practices is breathing properly. Breathing deeply and into the belly. The first thing a chi blocker should do then is to cut the supply of chi to make people out of breath - that’s why chi blockers can knock people out into their unconscious. Another practice is in using sensitive and essential places of flow in the body to attack - while chi practices such as EFT and acupuncture focus on gently focusing on these areas to help wake the body to increase the flow, chi blockers aim hard to stop the flow completely. Lastly, a lot of their martial arts may focus on increasing and balancing the chi in themselves through similar practices like Tai Chi and Qigong then redirecting that energy to someone’s body to cut it.
Air benders could space travel. They have flight, bring some oxygen with them and some ozone to protect against radiation. They would even be able to communicate by regular speech as they bring our medium for sound to travel. That's just wild...
Super late, so I'm sorry, but I can't let you spread false info- the main (and pretty much only we were given) reason sozin decided to use the comets' powers to wipe out the air nomads is because he knew the next avatar, after roku's death, would be an airbender, and he knew only the avatar would be able to stop him. In fact, I'm almost certain he'd go for them last if it weren't for that.
@@jonathan13co yh but still they had potential if they weren't pacifists imagin having thousands of zeehera (idk how to spell his name) all working together they could qoncuer the world
@@jonathan13co we have to have in mind however that the avatar would still be a child then, which posed almost no threat at all. When we look at their history, the fire nation completely wiped out small towns and villages, but for big cities with bender forces like Omashu, Ba Sing Se and the northern Water tribe for example they needed special strength (and/or internal help). The air temples were probably the communities with the most benders compared to other nations... and they were pacifists to top it off. I think the fire lord knew they were a very big threat.
@@peachlume You're just speculating and expressing your own opinion, when in truth sozin just wanted to have control over the thing that stood in his way all that time(before the war)- roku himself. It's heavily implied in the "the avatar and the fire lord" episode that sozin was most likely planning to capture baby aang and end the avatar cycle by killing him while in the avatar state. If he weren't to wipe out the air nomads first, aang might have time to go into hiding and master the elements(through secret organizations like the white lotus, perhaps) and stop the war very early on. Not to mention the fact that the whole concept of 1 nation dominating the entire world is completely against the avatar's purpose- to maintain balance- further supporting sozin's plans to eradicate the avatar cycle. Look, I know you guys love the air nomads and it's very true they are fantastic benders, but the truth is- if it weren't for aang, using the comit to destroy ba sing se would most likely be more efficient( as you said, the fire nation struggled so much with cities like ba sing se that after 100 years of effort they decided to capture it sophisticatedly from the inside using azula).
Btw, you mentioned "the avatar would be a child, which posed no threat", but aang was a child(12) when he found out he was the avatar and shortly after that the comit came and the nomads were wiped out. That "child which posed no threat" came back 100 years later and almost single handedly became a realized avatar and defeated ozai , ending the war, so yeah....poor argument.
Elemental fighting types: Water: Neutral as it can be defensive and offensive with lots of flexibility. Earth: Mostly Defensive but has lots of ulility. Fire: Very offensive and can be very destructive yet beautiful. Air: Defensive/Evasive with fast movements that assist in avoiding/warding off attacks and enemies.
Air Bending is definitely the best bending form. Water Bending has a few OP specialties in it. Earth Bending has the most utility effects, like being able to instantly build a stone house. But overall, Air Bending is just the best. It has magnificent defense, it has the ability to do "stun" damage, even in a high-level fight, and flight is the best of all powers. For as much effort as it will take to do, how much benefit do you get back from it. Learnig to bend is WAY more useful than just doing a bunch of jumping jacks. Plus, once you learn to do it, you don't necessarily have to keep working hard for the rest of your life to continue to be able to bend well. Look at Iroh. Before he was arrested and locked up in the final season, he was a loafy old man who just liked to drink tea and play games ... but if he had to, he could still bend with the best of them.
We see constantly that the elements can be controlled without any fighting ability, or any knowledge or practice of the powers, look at the earth benders for this most, sand benders move closer to air benders than earth benders, Zuko uses a water bender style fire bending move, the pro benders use boxing even, the first time it was used by Zeher he had likely tested it out a few times already
I could say the same thing about Katara mastering water in like two days. Even with her months of self training with Aang, it doesn’t seem super reasonable for her to be able to go toe to toe with experienced and naturally gifted fire benders like Zuko. @@anjoline788 In the legend of Korra this ability is actually shown 2 times by an airbender named "Zaheer". He created a vacuum type thing around someones head and took all of the air out of their body until they died.
Zaheer was deeply spiritual about his beliefs, it is no surprise to me how quickly he mastered air bending or that he could use it for a malevolent purpose.
FINALLY! I'VE BEEN SO TIRED OF PEOPLE BEING LIKE "Air bending isn't that cool, it's all about Earth! or Fire! or Water! "(Although imo water is just as versatile as Air and is my second favorite)
Great video Air bending most be incredibly powerful if Monk Gyatso could take several POWERED UP COMIC fire-benders by himself. I'm srry but i don't think the spiritual projection is a airbending technique just something a highly spiritual person can do.
I love the clip he used when he said that... "several" **nearly 20 dead fire nation soldies lay at his feet** And I agree, I think projection is something that anyone can do, but it is probably more common among air benders given their highly spiritual culture. I think what Zaheer and his group did, projecting their minds into the spirit world, was something very similar to it, maybe just a lower version of full on projection.
i mean, youre probably right, but since as it was said air benders were the most spiritual so its probably like 1 out of 1000 or something that other benders would be able to use such an ability, if its possible at all
Actually going off context if you base it off the facts and both series one and two (Aang & Korra) Astral Projection is a high level degree of Air bending because it is believed that when you die, you become lighter because the air has left your body, in connection to the air leaving it also means your spirit has departed your body. So Astral Projection can be looked upon as a type of high level Air bending due to this connection of Life and Death. Now other bending cultures have their own ways of utilizing spirituality, for the Water Benders it was Spiritual Healing using the power of their element and connection to the spirit world to heal wounds. For the Earth Benders it would be their ability to evolve and adapt to the situation, like Toph's ability to see with her feet and ears when bending, and as well the way they adapt to extreme situations like Spiritual Adrenaline they become so connected to their element that they can react quickly to attacks. Boomie's Crystal Bending, Toph's Metal Bending, and Lava Bending which before was known to be a very exclusive move that only Avatars were able to perform, at least during the time Aang was frozen we can assume that at some point Regular Earth Benders were unable to perform this, only emerging later on like what happened to Bolin (He was stuck in a tight spot and only intending to delay the lava only to discover that he could do much more.) For the Fire Benders Spirituality to them comes in the form of mastering the Fires of Creation, As shown like Water Benders they can utilize their spiritual connection to heal wounds, not meta physically but within the body. So why did I mention all this? Well because each is an example of the HIGHEST SPIRITUAL POWER available to the Benders of that Element, If you've watched the other bending videos Otaku really goes into detail about these. In other words Astral Projection is one of the HIGHEST DEGREE of AIR Bending available only to few select individuals, just like how Lava, Metal, Lightning, and Blood Bending are selectively unique. Or at least they once were in the case of Korra's life time.
Actually he's right if you seen the last battle in avatar The Last Airbender aang did that and it eroded the stone so it's not impossible to do that to a building

@Xavius Xenon Letting go of earthly attachment doesn't equal to feeling nothing. The same principle applies when Guru Pathik is teaching Aang, there's a moment where Aang questions why he needs to let go of Katara. It doesn't mean that Aang must forgo his love for Katara but he must be willing to accept that she is not his to possess. He needs to accept that she may die or go away at any time. Those are hypothetical realities that Aang must be ready for. During the Dai Li fight, Aang looks over to Katara and apologizes because he knows what he must do in order to unlock the Thought Chakra. He accepts that she may die in what happens next but does what he feels needs to be done anyways. He lets go of his earthly attachment to her being there with him but still holds onto the spiritual love he has for her. The same is true for Zaheer. When he see's P'li die, he is then willing to accept the harsh reality. He doesn't deny it or go crazy with grief, but realizes what he needs to do next. That being accomplishing the red lotus goal and creating a truly free world by eliminating the Avatar and the oppressive governments of the world. It wasn't a product of bad writing, it's just a common misconception. I don't see how anything was contradicted in the Avatar Wan story. Lion Turtles granting bending is not a contradiction. The turtles gave humans the ABILITY to bend, while the original benders(Badgermoles, Dragons, etc) expanded on the bending itself, that’s how people learned how to properly bend. Bending is a martial art just as much as it is a physical ability. The martial art aspect was formed by the original benders while the ability aspect was granted by the Lion Turtles. You can throw a punch, but that doesn’t mean your instantly a martial artist. Same with bending. It’s shown in the show that Wan was the one who invented the dragon dance. (Note: Lion turtles granting bending was actually foreshadowed in ATLA. This is a depiction from the ATLA episode "The Library" of a man going up to a Lion Turtle requesting bending abilities.) The evil spirit wasn't destroyed. And no that way of thinking is wrong, there will always be human conflict until the end of history regardless of whether spirits even exist or not because true peace is impossible to achieve. This post was about flying lol, idk why you ranted about Book 2 all of a sudden.
It really is underestimated, cuz everyone viewed it as the kindest and most simplest element, until Zaheer started to fly and suffocate ppl.

honestly surprised that super-speed wasn't mentioned...

I was always annoyed that "sound-bending" was never explored. Sound is literally just air vibrations, so an air-bender should be able to do anything from creating zones of silence to creating explosively loud noises.
Actully if your an airbender you can use airbending to amplifie sounds so you can be a sound bender if you are an airbender
He uses it to eavesdrop once and that's it.
Ventriloquism would be a nice application of it that could play well with Aang's personality
They control air not sound waves
The creative possibilities are immense!
aang did it. in tales of ba sing se he was able to send the whistle blow out much further than a loud blow could. seems like sound bending to me.

In this theory, if you aren't already familiar, the story goes like this:
The surviving nomads flee the air temples, and while some are captured and killed, others would have likely assimilated into Earth Kingdom towns and communities, fearing the consequences of being discovered... inevitably many of these nomads would have married or had children.
Keep in mind Airbending is a very spiritual element, unlike all of the other nations, Air Nomads were all benders due to their heightened spirituality,
if something were to happen, and they were to lose that spirituality - say, if a war were to break out and all the airbenders were hunted down to near-extinction, it's possible that their
children might not have inherited that spiritual connection, but would have still had the same genetic code that physically allowed them to bend.
It makes a lot of sense
indeed
The Arctic Gamer nice theory. It doesn't explain why the parents of the new airbenders aren't airbenders as well after the Harmonic Conversion though. If the HC awakened the spiritual connection in the descendents of airbenders, the ability should be awakened in their parents and siblings too.
Perhaps the HC chooses randomly?
It seems to effect the youngest non-bender in the family if that helps
SAY WHAAAAAT?!!
Nice.
Well isn’t this a nice thought lol

Mr. Anonymous
Well, they could firebend a little bit in their, just not too much.
Galvin Greene
So he kept suffocating them all till he ran out of breath as well? Wouldn’t he be able to take a deep air bending breath after they all died? I feel as an airbender he should have had a greater lung capacity, so he should have taken a deep breath, suffocated the fire Benders, and then take a breath after they died.
Mr. Anonymous
I feel his human nature to breath and fight for air should have kept him from physically suffocating himself.
You know what I mean? Gyatso I mean.
That's shits Scary
Mr. Anonymous
Gyatso killed all those Fire Benders in the room he was in when Aang found his skeleton.
Yeah also air has the easiest method of killing your opponents immediately by just suffocating them. Bloodbenders definitely pose a threat tho.

Yes it can be called air extraction or air vacuum
I've always wondered why Zaheer even felt the need to make a vortex, couldn't the air just be bent out of the lungs of anyone and kept out for ~2 minutes?
but the fire in most of the scenes never left marks, the firebending flames most of the time when they are used if they touch any object they extinguish
@@LancesArmorStriking i think it cant be, if you notice amon (or other blood benders) never remove water from humans or animals, maybe the body's chi naturally prevents the bending of elements within the body

Airbenders can go from a gentle breeze to the might of tornado real quick.
@3rd Way Not weak, but passive in nature.
3rd Way can be but not in this case imo
I see where you guys are coming from. The new generation of airbenders are not pacifists. In the legend of Korra they were running fades.
Ńîçk Gøûr calm down😂 why u so mean its just a theory they were thinkin of
@Ńîçk Gøûr oi, i agree, but you didnt have to call him a dumbass though

Friendly airbender: I am the eye of the storm
Hostile airbender: I AM THE STORM
Fantastic
@@COMALiteJ THIS MAKES A LOT OF SENSE TBH AND IS ABSOLUTELY FASNICATING AND I LOVE UR THINKING!!!!!

I don't really think the astral projection is part of the airbending skill, doesn't connect to the element of air at all, but more on the character of an airbender.
yeah, it seems more like a water skill being that they can destroy souls.
The monks are a very spiritual culture. They inherited airbending, the strongest element, because they are the wisest nation in Avatar. Also since their ancestors were so close to the spirits and lived peacefully with them, they can do the astral projection because of their natural link with the spirit world.
@@zenmint Waterbenders don't destroy souls, they purify them of their darkness. And not any waterbender can do this, if they don't know how.

@@poobs2361 made profound sense!
Poobs probably the strongest since they can pull air from your lungs xd
Only their defense wouldn’t be to great, I assume ice objects and stones would go trough air easily in combat unless it’s like a really powerfull air bender that can put out a lot of pressure behind air attacks but for a “common” air bender those projectiles should penetrate their effort of blocking it with air, thats probably why aang dodges mostly I guess or like redirect projectiles that are coming his way instead of blocking
I often think it's a shame Airbending didn't have more of a presence in the story.

Well, Aang is the LAST of them, soo....
Aang literally used it more than any of the 3 other elements in the show (not sure about water though)
This was a lot. Good points though.
YES, FINALLY PPL GET IT

His actually a flithy dragon bender

"When we hit our lowest point we are open to the greatest change" Great quote.
Air bending would be invisible under most circumstanstes but let's remember that multible factors can make it visible.
1. Dust.
2. Dirt.
3. Moister like a fog.
4. Cold tempertures
And speed. You can see a very faint stripe in the air if the air you are bending goes really fast.
Sergio Bocanegra
Also speed and force. If you notice, in a tornado you can see the wind. A tornado 🌪 moves super fast.
And on that note could you slowly restrict oxygen or at least make the air super thin in one place so that if they are physically active they would suffer from altitude sickness or get knocked out before they knew what was happening you know by using the invisibility of air bending to your advantage
Or just pull the air from there lungs and throat so the vacuum left would break there lungs
Kelly Nolen Or just fill up their lungs with fart bending.
I just realized no one can even see the air they bend.
(and of course there is the lethality we can speculate about, like exploding someone's lungs with air-pressure, but I don't see any way to practice that technique, nor do I see an instance where I would use it)
(But other than that I totally agree with you)
@@yoavjacoby8246 I mean, air bending is cool, but water bending is the most OP bending. Blood bending alone is the best sub bending facet, even if it can't be done without a full moon. Water bending is also just practical.

Are you sure? Because some people in the show dodged some attacks
I always knew it's really strong and Aang is just so defensive fighter so it may not always seem so powerful.

Imo he is just way too defensive.
What would sound bending do or work ?
Could use poisonous gas and send it literally anywhere.
Stealth attacks, suffocation preventing fire benders from bending. Many many other things as well.
A really good power if there was a assasin force of airbenders lmao
Or communication and espionage. Creating muffled areas, perhaps even bending the air temperature to make mirages aka camoflauge
If so. (Oxygen?) They might even bend Water or Fire
Airbending was always my fav bending, I love the movement they do with it. From I saw Aang, Tenzin and Zaheers prowess I fell in love.

Nemitri Wow, Awesome
That would be air fire and water
As you need hot cold and airflow to do so
could utilize friction in air to create static as well.

@@AlpenSkyWatcher The blimps were made years after the genocide.
I think the teachings of all bendings were twisted down the centuries, and were taught in a different way to restrict the elements. I believe that bendings were meant to be used something like this: Fire was used more accurately, focused, and less destructive like an air bender
Air was used more violently, and more destructive like a fire bender
Earth was used less strictly, and more to do with turning defence into offence, like a water bender
And Water was to do with persistency, like an earth bender
I think this is how they were originally like, as Azula shows that if you bend the fire more precisely, with aim, it becomes more powerful and easier to use.

There's no air in space though
The fire lord new their power and potential that’s why he waited for the comet to kill them all
Super late, so I'm sorry, but I can't let you spread false info- the main (and pretty much only we were given) reason sozin decided to use the comets' powers to wipe out the air nomads is because he knew the next avatar, after roku's death, would be an airbender, and he knew only the avatar would be able to stop him.
Elemental fighting types:
Water: Neutral as it can be defensive and offensive with lots of flexibility.
Earth: Mostly Defensive but has lots of ulility.
Fire: Very offensive and can be very destructive yet beautiful.
Air: Defensive/Evasive with fast movements that assist in avoiding/warding off attacks and enemies.
Water : wet
Earth : hard
Fire : hot
Air : light

Air Bending is definitely the best bending form. Water Bending has a few OP specialties in it. Earth Bending has the most utility effects, like being able to instantly build a stone house. But overall, Air Bending is just the best. It has magnificent defense, it has the ability to do "stun" damage, even in a high-level fight, and flight is the best of all powers. If you don't like what's going on where you are, you can just leave! Bye, Felicia!
The flight is so rare that only two people in the franchise have had the ability, plus the requirement for it is stupendously hard to achieve.
@@boshlovely2002 I'll never understand why people who don't work out irl think they'll train the element if they were to have one
KingAJGames
Exactly, most people even when they see the benefits and perks to working out still don’t do it, if bending was a thing 100% guaranteed those same people still wouldn’t put in the effort into training them selves to the levels they brag about
@@boshlovely2002 While that is true of "true flight", lots of air benders could fly with glider staffs or wing suits. They also had the flying bison mounts. This is why it was so easy to be nomads. They could literally go anywhere they wanted any time they wanted.
@@kingajgames3171 Unless you're a professional athlete or just someone who really enjoys exercise, there's a cost/benefit analysis that has to go on.
Zaheer was ridiculously overpowered. All that with virtually no training time or learning curve. Talk about a Gary Sue.
Gary Stu* also he is not the protagonist so it wouldn't make him one..
Katara is still awesome, but she definitely felt pretty OP to me.

One thing about Zaheer is that I'm pretty sure he knew all of the air bending forms before he was imprisoned because the red lotus were going to abduct avatar Korra and they were going to be her four masters. So yes Zaheer was an incredible martial artist but he already knew all about air bending culture and the forms! My theory anyway... thank otaku I love your video essays

Airbending could instantly collapse the lungs killing automatically.
I THOUGHT OF THIS INSTANTLY WHEN I SAW THE TITLE OF THIS VIDEO. EVEN TOLD MY LITTLE SIS ABOUT HOW LIKE IF AIRBENDERS CAN BEND AIR OUT OF A PERSON'S BODY, THEY WILL AUTOMATICALLY DIE. IT'LL BE TOO OP.
Great video
Air bending most be incredibly powerful if Monk Gyatso could take several POWERED UP COMIC fire-benders by himself.
I'm srry but i don't think the spiritual projection is a airbending technique just something a highly spiritual person can do.
I love the clip he used when he said that... "several" **nearly 20 dead fire nation soldies lay at his feet**
And I agree, I think projection is something that anyone can do, but it is probably more common among air benders given their highly spiritual culture. I think what Zaheer and his group did, projecting their minds into the spirit world, was something very similar to it, maybe just a lower version of full on projection.
Jinora says it’s a high level air bending move with some spirit stuff thrown in to kai
You're all aware that airbenders have the strongest link to the spirits, right? That's literally what allows them to do it
i mean, youre probably right, but since as it was said air benders were the most spiritual so its probably like 1 out of 1000 or something that other benders would be able to use such an ability, if its possible at all
Actually going off context if you base it off the facts and both series one and two (Aang & Korra) Astral Projection is a high level degree of Air bending because it is believed that when you die, you become lighter because the air has left your body, in connection to the air leaving it also means your spirit has departed your body.
With the air power you could compress a lot of air in one point and let it out at once, aka a big pressure wave that could let a building colapse

Yes.
Actually he's right if you seen the last battle in avatar The Last Airbender aang did that and it eroded the stone so it's not impossible to do that to a building

Airbending is the most powerful element scientifically and literally.

@@thecod2345 what to do against tanks? Just choke the people inside the tank and it'll stop moving. Actually stop everyone around you from breathing and you instantly win.
The Cod You’re all literally forgetting about the fact that airbenders can send out a shockwave around them like Aang did multiple times. As for the tanks, he can move air underneath them and launch them upwards, or spawn a tornado that throws them around

as you have shown in one of the clips, aang was angry and used his airbending to cut a moth. We rarely see airbending beingg used to cut but a master certaintly could cut anything...
Ang used air bender to compete in the tournament that toph was in. Technically, you can use airbending to utilise the other elements. And yes, you have air literally all around you anytime and anywhere. Air benders are OP, its just that their beliefs and cultures are not fighters.
Now that I think about it, air benders could also possibly bend water...
@@redacted4125 If you're talking about bending the oxygen in water, that's wrong. Air has oxygen but oxygen itself is not air. So technically, water DOESN'T contain air.

Francis Bwogi
I believe aang unlocked this power momentarily at the end of book 2 when he used the avatar state right before Azula shot him. He was floating up. And you have to let go of your earthly and worldly attachments to fly as well as unlock the crown chakra. Aang let go of Katara so he was able to fly.
@@appledough3843 What Aang did compare to Zaheer is two completely different types of "flight".
@@green2869 but it could be, to open all chakras some avatar in the past could have learned the ability of flight which would explain why aang only showed it in avatar state
@@green2869 they are attached, they do not need to get rid of desires. Having to save the world, isn't all that easy. Thus they are attached, not desired.
This is a depiction from the ATLA episode "The Library" of a man going up to a Lion Turtle requesting bending abilities.)
The evil spirit wasn't destroyed. And no that way of thinking is wrong, there will always be human conflict until the end of history regardless of whether spirits even exist or not because true peace is impossible to achieve.
This post was about flying lol, idk why you ranted about Book 2 all of a sudden.
