- I head out with my dog Monty on a 10 day solo adventure in the wilderness during the fall. I portage over 60 times through lakes and rivers. I sweat, I bleed and I eat some fish.
This portion of the trip cover the first 4 nights. I head across lakes and do some long portages. The sun was out a lot and the temperatures were unseasonably high causing me to sweat profusely during almost every portage. I also see a bull moose while traveling the Louse River.

Note about the audio: This is the one and only time I use the GoPro Hero 5. I upgraded right before this trip to the hero 5 and the audio on it was insanely over sensitive and that is why there is a lot of background noise. As soon as I got home and checked my footage I was very disappointed so I returned the gopro hero 5. Then the hero 6 came out and I purchased that so the audio should never be this bad again!

Monty is so relaxed ,he follows you without being called no fuss in the conou or rain and swims like 30/40 feet behind the boat my dog woul freak out being that far away on the water and so would I but Monty doesn't care very rare dog ps O love his qute overbite lol
Loving catching up with these early videos. You really make it feel like we're on the trip with you. I don't live anywhere as stunningl as this so these longer videos really enable me to immerse in nature & it's beauty. Whish we had lakes like this in more areas of England, on the occasional hot days we have would love to swim in a lake. Thank you for sharing these awesome videos. I'm sure it would have added a lot of extra work to your trip doing all this filming. It is soon generous of you to share your experiences with us like this. Much love 😘😘

Lol, looking at every portion you're eating onthis trip compared to today's portions 4years later and there's a humongous difference. You're eating almost 3 x more than then. I haven't even finished watching and I had to comment, this is awesome - you need a lot more views and likes because of all the effort you put in. Also loving the length - felt like I was along for the adventure.
Thank you so much! I'm glad someone other than me thinks so hahahahaha! I wasn't sure about the length when I first made it. I did my best to shorten it but then I realized that there were too many great moments or shots that I just wanted in there. So I ended up with a 3 part - 5 hour and 20 minute total video series haha. I'm glad you came along!
It was an epic trip for me and Monty and I had a blast - and worked my ass off. The only bad thing I have to say about the adventure was the darn GoPro Hero 5. I bought that thing a week before this trip and while it took beautiful pictures, the audio was terrible! I had to scrap many shots because it picked up too much background noise. If you end up watching the whole video, you will definitely notice that it picks up every little noise. I returned that camera the day after I got home and bought the GoPro Hero 6. Much better but I am still looking to get a DSLR by the end of January. Then I will have high quality video and audio. I am so excited!
I won't just be watching this to the end but the entire series and some. I've subbed so will look forward to seeing more future endeavours with the new equipment. Monty is awesome too btw, I could never take my dog out like you have here ... too many native birds and wildlife in my country that are protected. Keep up the good work man 👍

You should ask your viewers to hit like and sub at the end of your video, you're humble so it must be hard to ask but ASK!!!!...or ask the viewers to hit like for Monty and Ruger, your videos should be viewed so much more..., you are truly real people and an awesome dad to your dogs and you make every meal look delicious, even when you take a mouthful of steak fat(4nights with Funk and both dogs video)...yuk...lol
In my more recent videos I have been saying that at the end. My earlier videos were before I ever thought I was going to put stuff on UA-cam so I didn't think about it. Glad you think so! I am a food monster hahaha!

You hit the nail on the head with the hammer my friend. I won't lie, during some of the portages that were long, like the 1.2 mile portage and some of the longer days, I was really not wanting to put the boat down again but just kept telling myself, YOU MUST! I will do my best to never miss a walk by during a portage. It definitely adds time to the portage but I love those shots! Thank you!

If you're going by English pronunciation then you should have been looking for a mouse or a grouse out there on the Louse but if you're going by French pronunciation then you definitely saw a moose on the Louse. My dogs & I love watching your videos! I've always heard bad things about backpacking with your dog, and I'm happy to say you've inspired me to make sure my pups are all able to go on adventures too!
I would highly recommend it. Dogs are awesome! The only way I could see it being bad is if your dog is not trained to stay near you.

just starting to watch your vids, my boyfriend turned me on to your vids. I love to kayak on the The Au Sable River , south branch, Michigan, its not as deep as the main stream. and its all wilderness for 4hrs. It was given to the state of MI by a club of fly fisherman who owned the property. There were stipulations of what they couldn't do with the land. Its so beautiful and peaceful especially if you go during the week when the "two legged wild animals invade the river " lol I used to be one of them till I got sober lol. Occasionally a friend went with me and her Shelty who was wonderful in the canoe.. I look forward to watching your vids, stay safe and have a wonderful summer with lots of trips.

Look at the skies and study the clouds, especially when the sun is low on the horizon . I don’t know how to describe it, but the cloud formations change when it’s gonna rain, usually within a few hours. I knew every time you were going to get rain. Tried to warn you but was 3 years too late! 😳

While it's never a bad idea to get him out, he is definitely fine without one. I do plan on getting him one eventually, but with that being said, Monty has been trained to swim across lakes and does so frequently. His nickname is Monty Phelps. I know stuff can happen but he's a super strong swimmer and it simply flipping the boat wouldn't get him anything other than wet. he can also swim in his poncho because I cut away the material near his front legs, just in case for that scenario.

Monty is just doing his job and you don't really know what vibes pass between animals moose can be very dangerous, I doubt he would swim after you but maybe Monty was making sure he didn't. I know that live bait and smells can help, but I really try to just use the same few lures so that I don't have to pack out a bunch of different types. The jigs I use usually work really well.
