    Hi, Dr. Webb. I love that you are exploring medicine outside the U.S. I am currently a medical student and the opportunity to explore medicine outside the US is so important for me. I know you went to Haiti and now Thailand, do you have these opportunities yourself our does your program have partnerships with international hospitals?

    Dr Webb I have a serious question that I hope you can answer? What kept you going on the days you felt like all of the odds were against you when you were constantly failing in different avenues of life? What helped you push through the pain? What kept you going even when it seemed like life had beat you down? I’m experiencing this now as an undergrad on my quest to become a surgeon

      Hello Positive Vibes. I know you're not asking me specifically, but when I saw your post I couldn't help but give you some encouragement. I'm an M3 now in medical school. I applied to medical school over 4 times. I took the MCAT 7 times. I went through depression for years but no one knew about it. It took a lot of prayer and patience to get me here. God kept me going as well as the mentality that He gave me. The mindset I have is that I don't ever let anyone tell me me what I can or cannot do. I never let family, friends, or strangers define the borders of my capabilities. I've had many ppl tell me that I would not make it to where I am now, especially academic advisors. I also knew that the only excuse for me not getting into medical school or completing any of my goals is DEATH. Other than that I have no excuse. You will be fine. Just push everyday because when you finally get into medical school,and YOU WILL, you'll see that its not intelligence that carries you through this process; its resilience. Another thing that keeps me going is that one of my biggest fears is regret. I never wanted to give up medicine and regret it 20 years later. I know you don't want to regret throwing in the towel. I really hope that helped you. Good luck!

      Glenn Martin Thanks!! I know that I am late responding to this message, but this has definitely helped me continue to move forward even in spite of constant failures. I just want to achieve my dreams of being a surgeon and working with kids. I realize one of the main things stopping me was the fear that if I put everything that I have into school I wouldn’t see any more results than I am seeing now. I’m not a quitter and I don’t want to live a life of regret. I have been putting in 60-70% effort almost my whole life. Today that stops and I will go beyond 100% to achieve the life and vision that I want for my self. Thanks for sharing your experience and it’s good to know that someone else out there has been through a lot of struggles and was still able to make it to the other side where success is.

I plan to give step one in about six months time, I'll probably hit you up on Patreon a month or two before my scheduled exam date, you know, just to make sure I got everything on lock. @mrbanks7229 6 років тому +1

      They are doctors... Most Doctors speak English since they have to go through so much school..most people in a high level profession learn to speak English regardless of country of origin.

    • @coreywilliams1454
      @coreywilliams1454 6 років тому +1

      Thailand is a high percentage of English speakers due to it being a popular young person holiday destination (similar to Cancun for Americans) as such most now begin learning it before the age of ten and continue to learn it through all levels of education. For example even if someone does a PhD there they are required to take English classes too.

    • @antoniowebbmd
      @antoniowebbmd  6 років тому +2

      Hi, sounds like you have a good plan. I would try to attend classes as soon as you can, usually right after OJT. Most bases have classes on base. When I was in the military, they paid 100% tuition and books but im not sure what they pay now. I suggest trying to knock out as much school while you are active duty and then get out the military, finish up remaining classes/MCAT, and then apply. This is exactly what I did.

    Hey Dr Webb do you know anyone that matched with an integrated cardio thoracic surgery residency (I6) ? I'm about to start a post bacc in South Florida and I've been doing research on congenital heart surgery and I love the specialty. I know the I6 CT surgery residencies are super competitive so I wanted to know your thoughts on it. There are a few paths to get to Peds CT surgery I just wanted to ask about this one. Thanks!

    • @antoniowebbmd
      @antoniowebbmd  6 років тому

      Unfortunately, I dont know anyone who has matched in that program but I will be on the lookout for someone. Im actually looking for someone to do an interview for my careers in medicine series.

    • @curioso_
      @curioso_ 6 років тому +1

      Okay thanks for the input though! I know the chief of Peds CT surgery here but he and most of the doctors around the US and the world did the basic 5 years gen surg + research, 2-3 years CT surg and then 1-2 years peds CT surg fellowship. It's also such a small field but I'll be looking out for that. I love the specialty and seeing those kids get better/ watching these complex surgeries really inspires me to go for it and make an impact on these babies and their families. My post bacc situation is unique in that I have the opportunity to essentially start over because I've only take 4 classes required for med school (changed my major to religious studies Midway through college graduated with a 2.76) and haven't take the MCAT. My advisor at UF med said that I can make myself as competitive as I want if I bounce back and take my sciences + high level biologies and get my research moving along + get a good MCAT score. Your channel is really helpful for me as a black man hoping To go into medicine. Is there any way I can contact you like through email to pick your brain a bit?

    • @curioso_
      @curioso_ 6 років тому +2

      I know that I have a lot of hard work to do but i'm very determined to do well because I know that I can do well. There is a lot of back story to my grades and academic history but its motivated me to re-pursue my dream to be a doctor who takes care sick babies/children.
