Sometimes solving one problem can create other problems. Both good and bad.
Today I am back in Eureka California after spending some time in and around Seattle. This area of the Pacific Northwest is similar to Seattle in a few ways. But it tends to be a little warmer and a little sunnier here in Humboldt county.
Being back here has been a joy. And today we will visit two of my favorite places. Arcata Community Forest and Trinidad.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

Your channel is a warm corner of the tube cheers Scott ☕
Aww, thank you
Agreed. Very soothing
Missed the lapse since your last video, I’m a new follower. Love your channel.
I concur. Extra credit for the nifty maps.😊
I totally agree here!
The eucalyptus there were planted as a windbreak in the early part of the 1900's. A large section of them was removed recently due to trail work and their advacned state of decline (100 years is a long life for a eucalyptus in the northern hemisphere, where they are not actually native and it is too wet for them). Cal Poly Humboldt used to be a State University, it is still a university, just with a different designation. As you can tell, I spent some time there. Was a student when it was Humboldt State University. One of my favorite places in the world! Trinidad is my favorite beach. If you are still around, the restaurant on the pier does a great breakfast. And Sue Meg Stae Park (formerly Patrick's Point) has my favorite campground ever. Thanks for the views of my favorite places!
Hi Scott I’m a Ranger here in New Zealand and appreciate having a look at the parks trees etc in your part of the world.
Loved the ocean views. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you Scott for another wonderful vlog.
It's a very nice beach area, it's amazing how peaceful it looks.
Home is where the heart is😇
As much coffee as you drink they should be giving you a sponsorship
Aloha Scott - Happy Holidays!! Thank for all that you do for your subscribers.
Well thank you for always watching. Happy Holidays, Island Girl!
I LIKE THAT SHREDDED CHEDDAR, PEPPER JACK, AND MOZZARELLA BLEND CHEESE ON MY HOME MADE NACHOS, TOPPED WITH SALSA AND SOUR CREAM.
The eucalyptus trees were planted about a hundred years as a windbreak. They just cut down half of them to accommodate the trail that connects Eureka and Arcata.
Thank you. Windbreak makes sense
I love your vlogs they’re just down to earth, informative and I love your chats.
Me too and he has a wonderful voice.
@@eddymahon1503 Yes very calming
I appreciate your calm, soothing and classy presentation of your adventures ❤ many thanks
Thanks Nancy
LOL Those people didn't want anything to do with the crazy man in a van talking to himself. That was funny. That was quite the view out your door at the end.
It happens often so I was happy to catch it on video, haha!
Thanks for taking us along on your walk! Always look forward to your videos. So calming. 🙂
Google confirmed- Australians brought the Eucalyptus trees here(CA) and they were used as a windbreaker for farming. Those trees were planted in the 1850s and they help with our Santa Ana winds.🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐
Well, you indeed saved me time and gas by visiting and showing one of my favorite areas north of Arcata. If you take the coastal access road north from where you were parked, you can find short trails that lead out on to some land masses, some rocky and grassy flat areas surrounded by ocean and with the best scenic views....thanks and take care !!
Wow! That really is breathtaking. It would be hard leaving it.
Happy almost Christmas 🎄
Thumbs up 👍
Trinidad is where I stayed up there when my grandson graduated from Humboldt State University in Arcata, and it's so true, it just feels like home. I like to think of it as Homeboldt sooooo lovely. Thanks for sharing that Onederful place, Scott. Stay warm thru the coming storm 😺💜
The storm has warmed the temperature up. But it is raining pretty good
Eucalyptus trees are a windbreaker to save the soil in your farm or garden. I lived in North Hollywood in the San Fernando Valley in the 1950's. Eucalyptus trees came from Australia. Look it up. Cindy
Hi scott great video the scenery was so warm and comforting I do worry about you when you talk about your van issues honestly I do. Please be safe
I have an older van. This is year five full time for me. In the last couple of years I have had the engine and tranny replaced. Several people told me I would still have problems even with a new engine. Of course they are right.
I spent an extra 3k over the top of the engine rebuild, and I am so happy about it. I got an upgraded battery, higher output alternator, new fuel injectors, new exhaust system, new fuel pumps, plus much more.
Even though most of those parts were still good. Now they should last as long as the new engine. It is so much cheaper to get it all done at once. Than piece by piece on the road. I have three times as much money in my van then I can sell it for. But as you know having confendance in the mechanicals is so stress relieving.
Best wishes and happy travels!
& Even though you have 3 times as much cash put into your van/home, it's your home and it's going to last you another several years now and I mean several. Not to mention, do you know how much a new vehicle cost nowadays?? They are Ripping people off left and right,, the prices are Astronomical these days.More computer electrical componentry to go wrong.. I'd rather have a semi-older vehicle and keep it going at almost whatever the cost.
Yours is oner of those channels where I watched videos all the way through. So good on camera. Such a beautiful part of the world
Thank you
The view from the van near the end was amazing
Can't beat California weather ... it is so great here.
Thanks for the great morning walk! ❤ What else do you want for Christmas, besides the transmission, engine and some attention to the van door track? Thanks Scott, thinking of you today in my prayers! 😇🙏🏻🕊🇺🇸💕🎄
Well I don’t celebrate any holidays so I guess a nice day off with some sunshine
Beautiful beach beautiful park ! The ocean view amazing ! Wow !
I live in Eureka You stayed. Fairly close to where I live. Those baskets, you said that are for some kind of fishing by Trinidad are crab pots.
Thank you for sharing this nice video! Sorry about your door...
Yeah, that place looks magical. Just gorgeous. Can't blame you for loving it so much.
I found your Yellow Bird sample size at Walmart for $1.
Can’t wait to try it!
I hope you like it!
OMG, one dollar. I got some on Amazon for $11.00. I love yellbird and glad about the coffee brewing tips.
I really normally don't do this at all. I like you & your channel. I even met you in person in 2018 & you are a very Humble human being, In other words you don't put on a facade of personality for the channel to appease viewers. I know you don't celebrate the holidays but Merry Christmas from me to you.
I appreciate that a lot. Thank you Bayside. Merry Christmas to you too!
Love the sound of the creek.
Welcome back :
Hi Mr. Wood Stump - you have good friends! Happy Holidays to Scott, and everyone here
He always has that little smile
Great scenary Scott. I can almost smell your coffee. Thanks for the peaceful and calming vlog. What cute neighborhoods you always find. Because of your videos you bring these beautiful places to us. 😊😊❤❤
5am, great time to get up and get moving, coffee calling
I stay away from microfiber prefer 100 percent cotton including flannels. My favorite is expensive but look at The Company Store or The Vermont country store. I own both places sheets I have had for many many years.
Thankyou for taking us along to the beautiful view !!! Really enjoyed the the ocean view!!!
You bring us to the most beautiful places Scott. Thank you ❤

This may be the episode that makes me the most envious of your lifestyle choice.
There are some problems with this lifestyle
Absolutely love your videos:)
Keep them up! Such a gorgeous part of the US.
I just watched vancityvanlife van tour with you five years ago. What a beard! It was like a separate guest. Bring it back! … 🙃.🙂
Hahahaha
My goodness how lovely. Thanks Scott.
Thank you fir the walk in the red woods.😊
I love your sense of humour Scott... great vlog.
Cool hike through the woods ... super gret video!
Those fishing things are crab pots! Also the things besides them are anchors for moaring boats. So technically you were half correct. Hope this helps
👍🏼
Hey Scott! Glad to have you home! I see someone already mentioned that the eucalyptus trees were planted as a windbreak many years ago. I have memories of driving by them as a small child. I still love them. And yes, Cal Poly Humboldt is a university. Our SIL is the Cal Poly Humboldt bookstore manager. I loved your footage of Trinidad Head. We've hiked it many times. ❤ The baskets are crab pots. Fresh crab is amazing! We've had some lovely weather recently; I hope you got plenty of solar power. We always enjoy your videos. 😊
Thanks Lisa. Solar has been a little lacking since yesterday but no complaints from me!
@StaticCamperVan Yes. Much rain right now. We are actually out of town today and tomorrow. What a time to travel!
Luv Humboldt county and all its glory ive gotta get back and take that gorgeous hike u have shared with us. Trinidad reminds me of morro bay
The trees in my neck of the woods are now bare thanks to that crazy rain storm last night. A little jealous seeing those red woods and greenery.
I purchased a 1/2 pound of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee for pour-over at Porto Rico Imports in NYC, a local Italian coffee importer for over a hundred years.
“Ethiopian coffees are known to possess a slightly spicy and almost “wine”-like flavor.” Can’t drink Dunkin’ Donuts anymore. What is Starbucks? I am now an official grown-up thanks to you. ☕️
Sounds like you got some great quality Ethiopian Coffee!
Scott, a beautiful spot in N Cal. Great vlog😊
Happy to see a Scott upload!
🙏🏼

Great to see Mr. Redwood Stump! Wow, Trinidad is spectacular. Humbolt is definitely on my list.
I love a beach walk more than any other walk but love a flattish bush walk as well. Lovely place to hang out! Thank you for sharing.
Stayed in Trinidad a couple of times. Have a picture of the lighthouse at Trinidad.
Gosh the view from Trinidad was simply majestic. Thanks for sharing
Beautiful
That is a beautiful park. Huge trees.
My favorite city park is Hilo City Park in Hilo Hawaii. It's got Japanese style foliage and a little bridge over a creek.
(I haven't been there in years, because it requires flying to visit.)
I feel the same way you do about that area. It feels like going home. Take care and I'll see you down the road. 🙂

WOW what a beautiful view with the sun 🌄 and those Sea stacks.
I miss that whole area you are in.
Crescent City has nice redwood trails also. And the best clam chowder in a sourdough bowl ever, at a restaurant called the chart room.

My favorite is LA Papua coffee, and Starbucks stopped selling it 3 years ago. Trader Joe's used to selling it. LA Papua is the best coffee I've ever tasted. Yum yum, hmmm yum ☕️ Cindy
