Lost British Man o War ship Pembroke discovered. Missing off Cornwall since 1694 !

- We recently discovered a very old wreck site off a rarely dived section of the Cornish coast.
In this video we look at the evidence that remains on the seabed to see how likely that it is that of the missing British Man o War ship Pembroke which was wrecked somewhere along this stretch of coastline in 1694.
Pembroke has a fantastic story... after several gun battles with the French mid channel she was forced to surrender after losing many crew and running out of shot and powder for the guns.
French sailors were put aboard with orders to set her on fire, but the wind picked up and the ship blew up into mounts bay where it would be driven onto the rocks and wrecked approximately a league to the west of Lizard point.
Despite many people looking for it in the past, the wreck has never been located...
Until now......?
Let me know your thoughts in the comments section.
Thanks for watching don't forget to subscribe and if you enjoyed this one maybe look up my other wreck diving videos.
Love your videos Ben ! Especially the mining exploration , my grandfather was a “hard rock tin miner” so I find your videos fascinating ! From one proud Cornish Ben to another , best wishes and keep up the good work we all love to watch , absolutely right on brother !
Ha cheers Ben, always good to hear !
Fascinating, what a joy to watch. Thanks and greetings from the Rhein Valley Switzerland.
Cheers Filton 👍
Thanks a lot Ben. Great history and so important to today's and of course future generations.
Cheers. Sadly there’s not much left but it’s good to go take a look at. There’s a few more in the area we are looking for also
One of my favourite films on UA-cam ... keep revisiting this. Amazing
Cheers Patrick. I did try approaching a tv company about doing a series on Cornish wrecks but sadly they don’t seem to share my enthusiasm! Maybe find someone one day willing to do a proper job to it 🙂 plenty more stories like this one with artefacts collected to back it up...
Really interesting and I’m convinced by the evidence!
I’m fairly certain it’s the one, and so are most people in the archeology world. But you can’t say it is until you find that one piece of evidence that proves it !
Great find. Very interesting. Good work.
Fascinating stuff, thanks so much for sharing your brilliant footage!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
Great stuff thank you. Very interesting , please keep these discoveries coming

He’s lucky we don’t eat lobster !
Good stuff. Graham from Wessex there I see 😉
Did you find it with a mag or just by luck!?
Luck. Swimming the horrible to dives spots no one else’s likes to dive !
Great vid. So interesting
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it
Good eye to whoever spotted the exposed yellow rust areas. The sounding weights reminded me of in the 1970s and 80s as a commercial fisherman sometimes rather than go look at the fathometer I would just bounce a 50 pound lead weight off the bottom to see how deep it was there.
Great documentation of the find Ben. The lead panelling looks to me as a lead cover for the touch light hole / vent for one of the guns. A sort of cloak was made from lead and put over the hole so that it kept the power dry. I have seen similar ones with similar patterns from the wreck site of the HMS Phoebe here in Guernsey. The ship itself was becalmed and then run onto a reef. They lightened the ship by throwing the guns, carriages and shot over the side. The lead cloak was found very close to the gun by a friend many moons ago. I could get a photo of the one he found if you like ?
Ah yeah interesting ! Would they have holes in the corners to be able to lash it down ? Mine was found right next to a cannon. Be good to figure out what it was !
@@BenoCam the one I have seen is damaged but looked as if it was moulded around the shape of the end of the gun which held it into place. The leads weight and capability of easy taking shapes to objects would have helped I’m guessing. I will pop around my friends Bunker and take a few pics for you to compare both. His is about 12 inch and has been decorated with Scallops cut into its edge from memory.
Yeah that would be awesome if you could get a picture !
Hi, are the lead discs bale seals? I have found quite a few here in Plymouth.
Hmm the could be ... I will look into it ! Cheers
I don’t think they are as there are no patterns on them. Unless they have worn off !
Did you see in the news last week about the blue lobster that was caught and released, and how it was rare? And now did you spot the blue lobster in your video? 👍😀
They are very common here, we see them regularly on dives in this area. It must be somewhere else they are rare ! The lobster was just walking past while we were filming the cannon so I took a few clips that’s all
@@BenoCam think it was in Devon if I remember correctly!
