You made that look easy, and you explained it in a simple way . Good job, guys.
This is very impressive
Excellent
I can remember making a sealcoat spray setup. The hoses ended up being the weakest links. Sprung a few leaks but over all was a cool system. When the hoses did burst, it was pretty messy. 😂 I didn’t make the tank like you though. Cool video
Good video 👍
Update video with the agitation paddels?
Are you making a video of operation and maintenance?
What sealer do you use in this?
Awsome video. Very few like it for those of us who are looking to build a rig. Where do you get the 50 tips at?
I buy them on Ebay, but normally you can find the where you buy your bulk sealer
Great job thanks for the video.one question. How is the pump doing? Have you have any problems with not wanting to turn when the sealer is cold? I hope you read this thanks again.
No problems at all
I got a question can I use a harbor freight water pump as the pump?
Where is the link for the agitation paddles?
How do you make the lid
You should have a filter pot strainer connected to filter particles and keep the spray tip clean
We installed a basket strainer
Hi, could you recommend me a Pump to spray asphalt Im beginner on this Job and Live in Texas
question for you.
so this year hopefully i will be using similar unit but never done a sealcoat job with sprayer.
my question is when you are ready to spray do you close the return valve so that you get all the pressure on the sprayer wand ?
do you le return valve halfway open ?
could you help me on this
I close it all the way, because I have 100 foot of hose and that works the best
Did you ever get you tank finished? I've been waiting since the last time we talked
Id like to know more about the wand, what tip you are running. size and where to acquire one.
I buy the 80/70 ones, I find they are well balanced with flow and spray width. Here is the link: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_id=114&ipn=icep&toolid=20004&campid=5338101668&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2F5-HARDENED-STEEL-SPRAY-TIPS-1-4-80-30-80-40-80-50-80-70-80-100-SEALCOATING%2F223549872456%3Fhash%3Ditem340c9c5948%3Am%3AmznEikioBdR4CMn6EKbxBww
We mostly use 80/40 there a little light at first but wear in quickly
Hello, I am setting up a tank config similar to this but just dont know enough about the plumbing. Is it possible to get a new video of the current setup with the filter pot and how its all plumbed?
I will make an updated video
Awesome video. I have a 500 gallon tank, hand agitated that I've been using for 17 years. I wanted to add this spray system because I'm getting too old to carry buckets. I was just going to buy the system and I think it would be pretty easy to install, but I need to figure out how to add the return valve on the top of my tank. Do I need a welder to do that or is there a simpler way to just cut a hole and add the nipple? Thanks for any guidance you can provide.
You've probably already done it, but when it comes down to anything that needs "fab" or welding take it to a welder. I put together a 300gal sealing rig on a Big Tex trailer years ago and I'm upgrading this year. I'll probably get my welder to fab together another rig if I get the right deal on the tank, spray system and trailer.
@@804video5what size trailer? Starting to assemble one on a 5x8 big Tex with just a tote. Thinking of an actual tank before I mount everything
@austingalie7027 it's a dual axle car trailer bigger than what I needed. It is the second trailer that bought from Big Tex, the first was a 60CH the one i have now is a lil bit longer and wider than the 60ch. My setup now is a 350gal "poly" tank unit I purchased ($8k) off of ASD Asphalt Sealcoating Direct. Get a trailer that the axle can handle max weight when your tank is full, don't go cheap trying to save money and the trailer can't carry the trailer fully loaded.....I known people that have had the bearings go bad and wheels pop off the axle because they bought a trailer that can't handle the weight.
Hey boss, great work. How much did this setup end up costing you around to build yourself?
$2,800 or so now
Have you been able to add a sand load with this pump?
Yes, I add 2-3lbs per gallon
Good morning, what size tip do you use and or recommend? Thank you in advance.
We use 50's and 70's
Hey bud I was wondering if you can make an updated video on your tank I haven't seen an updated one in a while thank
We start sealcoating this week, I will make an updated setup
@@MichaelTheakston my man thanks for the reply I own my own Sealcoating business and I'm looking to add another Sealcoat tank but I want to make it like y'all did I think it would be cool and just to say I did it!
Have any issue dead heading the pump when the return is closed and you have to shut the ball valve off at the wand in a hurry?
Haven't had any problem at all
so does a high-pressure compressor spin when its being used?
It's operated off of one pump
Hey bud how long can sealer sit in the tank before it starts Harding
2-3 days, longer if it's cooler out
Good evening great job! I would like such a construction can we contact?
Do you have a video showing how to make the agitator?
I will get one up shortly
Have u made
How big is the tank? Does the size matter as it relates to the function of the unit? Where do you find something like that?
You can find them on Facebook marketplace and Craigslist. Search fuel tank or farm tank and you will find one. Size doesn't matter, I'm also making a video on building a spray unit one out of a 55 gallon drum.
Theakston did you do the 55 gallon drum video?
Do you think a semi trash pump would work just as well
Yes, that will work.
How do you like the red lion pump? I found one online for 50 dollars but the the motor was only a 3.5 hp and wouldn’t stay running
Love the red lion pump, you just have to buy the bigger one. It will last for 3-4 season before you have to replace seals
Theakston yea I’m thinking about getting one I just run a cheap one from harbor freight. I’ve always heard you can’t run sand threw the trash pumps but I think as long as you mix it you could be able too
The sealer does not need to be heated? Where do you get your supplies? I have heard of Asphalt Kingdom and Sealmaster.
The sealer does not need to be heated. It's coal tar emulsion sealer
Crack filler is heated, sealcoat is pumped in from a distributor and you add water mix and go. SealMaster is great there all over the u.s. there’s also Gemseal, pmsi, star seal and I’m sure a few more I’m forgetting.
Hey, I use the harbor, freight predator pump it works good for me. Do you recommend I buy the pump you’re using?
I do seal coating also
The pump I use is cast iron and holds up to years of use
So is it a basic trash pump? Any problem spraying compared to diaphragm pumps ?
Do you need to shut the return valve off completely when spraying?
I shut it off 3/4 of the way, when the pump starts wearing down after a few years I shut it off completely.
I got this same pump this week and just set everything up and fixing to use it this weekend for the first time. I have been told do not use sand in trash pumps overe and over. it seems this red lion pump is alot heavier than most . Just wondering if i should chance running sand in my mix?
Pretty cool but youll need a filter if you want to spray
Yeah, I added one
I’m trying to figure out how to fabricate the agitation system. Can you show us how you did that? Or anybody know of any videos that explain how to install this on a tank ?
you all prolly dont care but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot my account password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me
@Rowan Lyle Instablaster :)
@Francis Casey Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Francis Casey it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much you really help me out!
@Rowan Lyle no problem xD
How long of a hose can you run with a pump setup like that?
I have a 100ft hose right now, has all kinds of pressure!
Nice thanks for the response.
Did you ever put that hand agitator if so where did you buy it ?
I bought all the parts on Amazon and put it together, not really a kit, more of a built by me kit
Cool I'm having trouble figuring out what to get
I will make a video with a list of parts and how to put it together. Thanks!
@@MichaelTheakston thanks bro I appreciate I know it takes alot of work but I appreciate it
What kind of pump are you using
If you look in the video description, the pump I use is the first item, along with all the other parts needed. Thanks!
how do i get a list of parts to build the unit?
I listed all the parts in the video description.
What kind of pump is that. Thank you
6.5hp red lion cast iron pump
Will not putting pipe sealant on pipes cause air in system?
I would always put pipe sealant on
Okay what would be the best pipe sealant to use
What was this tank originally?
It's was a diesel farm tank.
Can you do the video for the hand agitator
Yeah, when I get it next week I will do an install video
Theakston awesome
@@MichaelTheakston did you shop that install vid of the agitation system and where you got it
I didnt get around to making a video on it yet, possible winter project.
@@MichaelTheakston where did you buy the kit?
What is the horspower of the pump and motor?
5.5hp red lion pump
Thank you for your help
Is there a nozzle that goes into the 3/4 to 1/4 reducer to spray?
Yes, it's a spray tip. It can be purchased where you buy your bulk sealer
What kind of hose did you use for the sprayer
3/4" epdm rubber hose
@@MichaelTheakston how many feet do you recommend? I would think no less than 100
@@ethanstearns7384 100 foot Is perfect
Isn't there supposed to be a way to heat the oil?
Sealcoat is not heated, the only thing that requires heat is the hot rubber melters for crack filling
Can this set up handle oil base sealer?
Yes it can
@@MichaelTheakston can i get some info and pictures from you so i can build one? I live in Michigan and i need this
All the parts are in the description
I cant find the cast iron pump i looked it up. No luck.
@@liveandlearnwithmike This is the new style pump we use amzn.to/3PX8h4S
Have you ever built a hot crack filler
I haven't built one yet, but I will build a larger kettle for heating rubber before I use it in my MA10
@@MichaelTheakston what spray tip did you use on this
@Robert Fellows We used a 70
@@MichaelTheakston what spray tip did you use
@@MichaelTheakston you got the link to it
How did you get the agitater(paddles) in it?
I drilled holes in both ends and mounted the bearings and then inserted the paddle bar from inside the tank.
You by chance remember where you got the parts from?
Thanks for such a fast response!
The 1" bearings and the rubber for the paddles I got on amazon. The steel rod and flat stock I bought locally at a steel shop. I basically built it myself because the kit that I originally ordered was so flimsy that I bent it taking it out of the box.
@@MichaelTheakston so no response as to who supplied the agitator?
How many gallon is the tank? Thanks
Its about 300
That will fit comfortably in a 6.5 foot bed?
Its tight, but it works
I built this entire rig. I'm having an issue with it spraying even. Any advice?
Larger tip and a basket strainer
Is that what they call a trash pump?
Yes it is
Two questions, does the size of the wand supply hose matter? I have 5/8” Goodyear high pressure hose from my pressure washing rig.
Second question does the inline strainer get clogged when you add your sand?
Thanks a bunch for the great video!!
Inline strainer needs to be cleaned once a day, usually in the morning. I would recommend 3/4" spray hose as you are going for volume of material over pressure. Thanks
Thank you for replying, great video. Only one I’ve seen that goes in depth on the build!
I my opinion I think you should have a ball valve on the spray house in case of an emergency
The spray wand does have a ball valve
the 2 inch opening next time should be a little higher as stuff will collect at the bottom..2nd you should make the lid opening big enough to go in there and in the middle because sealer slushes from side to side but not in the middle.
Thanks for the comment!
Can’t find anyone building one on UA-cam
I need one Can you built me one
We have the 3 inch predator trash pump for ours. And plumming its turned out to be a bitch.
@@user-tu5jf6lb5b The 2” is so much easier to assemble
Yeah, I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't return it for the 2 inch. Is that what you have plumbed up in this video is 2 inch?
Believe it or not, they just replaced my 3 inch because something happened there was sealer coming out of the exhaust. It was getting into the oil. The gas tank. And the pump was brand new, maybe 3 hours on it.
@@user-tu5jf6lb5b Yes 2” is all we use
mig welding in shorts last time i did that i got hella sun burn i seen it and just cringed
Toasty for sure
where is the strainer
Outlet on the bottom of the tank before the pump
So I just realized that 10 minutes 47 seconds you make the biggest loudest fart don't lie be honest you farted
Had a good friend catch his shirt on fire welding without proper welding PPE. Thought of him the whole time watching this video. Please be safe.
Update video with the agitation paddels?
