Phone apps to allow FT8 are a huge step forward for portable operation. There is a similar app for the iPhone iFTX. How did you interface to your 817 with your phone.
Yes voltage antinodes very nasty. On a rig I was on they installed an HF whip in place of a wrecked helicopter MF NDB, we had onboard. I tried to explain to Buzz (our Texan sparks) that just because it looks a similar length doesn’t mean it is the same. The NDB went from being heard over 50 nm away to 3 nautical miles. He was notorious for dumb repairs, having another time cut my airband VHF COAX …. But “fixing it” with tape and screw down connectors. Anyway whilst investigating the faulty NDB got too close to the matching loading coil and blasted a hole in my thumb 🥹. 73 de VK2AOE

FT8 is not proper ham radio It's just call sign collecting Like most Digital modes
