All very true. As for someone who's also worked in the retail industry for 3 years and dealt with all types of people daily, relating to Squidward has never felt SO real. He's honestly the best character in the series just from that notion alone.
I do kinda like that Squidward is an asshole though, it helps make some of the early SpongeBob annoyance feel less like bullying. It can still get REALLY bad at times though.
Fun fact, my AP bio , physical science and AP Chem teacher in high school , who was also my mentor while I started my education in marine science was classmates with the creator of SpongeBob at Humboldt state university. They were study buddies back in college. She said squid ward was based off of one the professors they had that everyone hated 😂

Looking back on it, I forgot how good SpongeBob was. Band Geeks, Just One Bite, SpongeBob’s House Party, Hall Monitor, Sandy’s Rocket, Employee of the Month, Valentine’s Day, The Fry Cook Games, The Training Video, The Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy Saga. I know the list is long but I have to include them all. Seasons 1-3 of SpongeBob are easily it’s most iconic, and having watched it recently it still makes me laugh. Early SpongeBob to me feels like a show that is wacky as hell but still managed to make smart jokes and lessons. Nowadays SpongeBob feels like it lost that magic, which makes me really sad

Yeah I relate to Garnt a 100%. Never got the chance to watch Nickelodeon because my family was in survival mode during my childhood. Now I'm doing well for myself and my niece/nephews introduce SpongeBob during COVID. And I enjoyed every second of it.
Lights Camera Pants was a genuinely fun time as a kid. It was so good it was the only game I tried to burn onto a DVD-R to give to a friend LOL (it didn't work) My favourite things about it were the collectibles (which i definitely did not use the cheat code to 100%...), and a few of the mini games: the racing one, the rhythm game one and the cooking ones. I knew SpongeBob SquarePants was something special of a TV show because it was the first modern, currently releasing cartoon that my dad actually liked as much as we did as kids. My mom put a few episodes on for us and he casually watched in the background, and then he got closer and closer to the TV and then HE was actually the one that asked if we could watch another one. And no surprise he laughed really hard at all of Squidward’s lines and jokes.

I never knew Stephen Hillenburg studied marine biology. Spongebob came out when I was in 7th grade and my friend and I drew Spongebob as like the presenter on our poster for our presentation about Porifera (sea sponges) in our science class.
Probably the best way to weed out someone who’s never watched SpongeBob is to say “It’s kinda like that SpongeBob episode where…” and then describe the plot of an episode. People who’ve watched it will be like “Oh, yeah I remember that,” whereas people who’ve never watched it will look incredibly confused.
One hundred percent, go back and rewatch ALL of Spongebob. In order. Seasons 1-5. It's INFINITELY funnier now than it was when you were a kid. I promise. Genuinely. Sit down and watch it with your girlfriend/boyfriend/homies, whatever. It's gotta be easily the funniest show I've ever seen. Because now that we're older and we know people IN REAL LIFE that are as dumb as Patrick, as grouchy as Squidward, a boss who is as greedy and selfish as Mr. Krabs, the whole show makes so much more sense.

11:04 regarding this question I would say a good candidate would probably be any of the 2010s cartoon network shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gumball etc. Though I'm not sure if any of them is just as iconic as Spongebob, for me personally Gumball was the generational defining cartoon but others would say shows like the aforementioned regular show or adventure time.

I forgot when I first watched SpongeBob but it was close to when it first came out. And I was a grown ass man watching it. I'm 52 now. So I think I was at least in my 40s. And I'm not ashamed to say I love that show.
I never knew Stephen Hillenburg studied marine biology. Spongebob came out when I was in 7th grade and my friend and I drew Spongebob as like the presenter on our poster for our presentation about Porifera (sea sponges) in our science class.
SpongeBob is to this day my favorite show of all time, and it's one of the shows I grew up with that my parents loved just as much as I did

Probably the best way to weed out someone who’s never watched SpongeBob is to say “It’s kinda like that SpongeBob episode where…” and then describe the plot of an episode.
People who’ve watched it will be like “Oh, yeah I remember that,” whereas people who’ve never watched it will look incredibly confused.

It's INFINITELY funnier now than it was when you were a kid. I promise. Genuinely. Sit down and watch it with your girlfriend/boyfriend/homies, whatever.
It's gotta be easily the funniest show I've ever seen. Because now that we're older and we know people IN REAL LIFE that are as dumb as Patrick, as grouchy as Squidward, a boss who is as greedy and selfish as Mr. Krabs, the whole show makes so much more sense.

I’m currently 25 but a few years ago I went to a close friends wedding with all of my old friends from highschool and I was the only one into “anime” “comics” “cartoons” etc but one night when we all went to the bar my homies gf is flipping through the channels and I shit you not puts on SpongeBob unironically and we all give it our full attention quoting the fun stupid shit lines and I felt like I was in another dimension and we were all kids again it was so much fun lmao

11:04 regarding this question I would say a good candidate would probably be any of the 2010s cartoon network shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gumball etc.
Though I'm not sure if any of them is just as iconic as Spongebob, for me personally Gumball was the generational defining cartoon but others would say shows like the aforementioned regular show or adventure time.
