- W. C. Russell Moccasin Co. CEO Luke Kolbie explains Multi Layer Moccasin construction, which was developed at Russell in the early 1900s receiving US patents. The ingenious, yet extremely difficult and time intensive process includes up to 4 individual wet lasting processes, more than any other boot construction in the world. This process, handed down from shoemaker to shoemaker with constant improvement has allowed Russell to become the foremost experts in performance outdoor footwear. With numerous world firsts and three pairs in the Smithsonian, Russell Moccasin is undoubtedly the most accomplished boot company in US history.
End cut offs have long been the best way of explaining our Multi Layer Moccasin construction and has been included in our advertisements since the early 1900s. You can read more on our Process page russellmoccasi...

Great presentation. Informative , concise and just enough dramatic flair with the use of an axe. Again, well done !
Thanks!!
it would be great to see a video that highlights the differences between the leathers offered and their use cases!
Very informative. I appreciate the breakdown. I was thinking what would you have done if you missed with the axe.
You and me both. Just glad I didn't!
Love my thula moccasin shoes. These are my summer shoes and have lasted over 14 years now. Have had them resoled once. The Newporter sole is my favorite!
One day I will have a pair.
My Russell Boots are my most-comfortable pair of footwear! Thank you Bill Fabricius!
And one of my favorite smells...the Russell Shop!
Amazing. I would watch this every night. I definitely want a pair of triple vamp boots!
Amazing content. Looking forward to seeing the cut into half version by rose anvil too. thanks luke!
I love my Russell Moccasins. I have the classic Joe's PH (pre owner change) and the new Safari. I hope to be fitted in person someday for that totally custom feel.
Very useful, and very cool to see up close how these unique boots are put together. it's extraordinary how advanced they were from the early day of manufacture, and also ho unique the techniques have remained. I supposed there is no was to industrialise these construction techniques, one of the reasons (besides patents?) that they were not more widely copied.
I just ordered a pair of-based on a UA-cam review from yesterday. I hope I’m making the right choice because I’m seeing a lot of disappointed customers out on the reviews.
That is one sharp hatchet! What type of construction would you say my pair of Russell Mohican Stalkers uses (from 2008)?
I hope to get some Oneida classics later this year.
The axe is much better touch than a bandsaw
Samurai sword next?? Hahahah
hello
I have a vintage pair of backcountry double vamp boots,.. it has a blue label, I believe they are from the 1970's,
could you confirm?
from my understanding, the "molded sole" is a layer of poron, which is synthetic. I've always heard that synthetics are to be avoided in heritage footwear as it will inevitably break down. how is this taken into account when considering the longevity of those boots?
The Molded Sole is not synthetic. Its an extra leather layer.
@@w.c.russellmoccasinco thank you for the response. my misunderstanding on the "molded sole." however, the double vamp molded sole model does shoes a "poron slip sole" sandwhiched inside, so the same question applies to that one.
