A worthy competition to Forest Pack! I'm interested to see how this compares to it. Does anyone know if it renders faster or if time to first pixel is faster with Chaos Scatter?
We've never done such comparisons, but you can always ask on the forums as the community uses a wide variety of tools and someone may have tried those comparisons for themselves (forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php). Thanks! Tom
guys, the "chaos scatter surface color" map, the usage i totally got it wrong. It seeems it is meant to take the color from the "distribute-0n" object and give that color (and some variation) to the scattered objects color slot.. and yes it has it s uses and great addition but i was expecting something different. so it seems i will have to keep converting each material's diffuse map to "corona multimap" and add "hue gamma saturation variation" manually instead of adding it globally, i thought this was it. Maybe you can introduce a new material type (not a map but a material) that just lets you add variations without visiting each materials diffuse slot.

really helpful but i have a problem. i scattered grass to a contour surface but alot of it is scattered few feet above the plane, also the scale of grass is increased several times. would u please tell me how to fix it ?
Hmm, sounds like it might be an issue with where the object's Axis is? In any case, we'd really recommend hoping over to our forums (forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php) and start a thread over there. You can post screenshots there too and it'll make solving this mystery a whole lot easier. Nejc
It's all well and good, but please, add border restriction to the scatter as quickly as you can. That's one of the biggest things that forces me to use Forest pack instead of Chaos scatter

Any will work, and best starting point is the content in Cosmos since it is included with Corona and has trees, grass, and even some preset scatters too that include both the scatter and the models to be scattered. Hope this helps! Tom

@@marerubrum Actually, there is more activity on the forum, making it the best circulation :) Not only that, but UA-cam does not allow posting of images in comments, so ideas can't be illustrated etc. And it is impossible to link to specific UA-cam comments e.g. to come back later and say "this feature has been added". We keep the pulse of users on UA-cam (e.g., here I am!) but this is not a suitable way to have feature requests sent in to us - for that, we have the forum :) Thanks! Tom
Not sure what you are trying to achieve here, would be better with some image examples (which would mean posting on the forum, a better place for sharing advice back and forth: forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?board=29.0) You can't set up scatter to only scatter on particular material ids, but you can use spline include or excludes, or even maps, which would achieve effects like only scattering on particular places on an object. As mentioned, since not sure exactly what you had in mind, I am not sure if those solutions would be preferable to, say, splitting the mesh into different parts and only scattering on those parts :) Hope this helps, though, and if you want to share example images, do please post over on the forums to continue the conversation! Not sure if in time but I know that you can use a corona map called edgetrimming in the opacity slot of the material of the object you are scattering (need to be in all of them) ua-cam.com/video/CVVIdfjO-Vc/v-deo.html

UA-cam comments are not a good place to give help - best thing to do is post in the "I Need Help" section of the forums where support will see it, and where you can share screengrabs (or we can share them :) ) to explain what is going on, show solutions, etc. forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?board=29.0 (or alternatively, you can open a ticket at support.chaos.com/requests/new ). We would need more information whichever option you choose, as I am not clear what is meant by cannot activate geometry - can you say which step you were following, share a screenshot of your set up (or the scene itself, especially with a ticket where the scene can be shared privately), you could even give the timestamp in the video to show which step you were following that didn't work. Hi! Due to the necessary under the hood changes Chaos Scatter only works with Corona 8 and newer. As a 3ds Max you do have access to Corona Scatter in Corona 7 - it's not as advanced obviously but hopefully it can help you. Nejc
i have been having problems when using chaos scatter on displacment maps, they dont quite work properly , when increasing the value of the displacement map, the scattered objects dont follow the correct value added, in forest pack they can control it hopefully we also get that in the next update

I believe you can do that by adjusting the parameters of Spline Includes and Excludes.

is it me or the scatter doesnt work with spline exclude when its on 1D-on spline mode ?

The color of the surface is not clear what material it was connected to, was it really impossible to show it in its entirety?

COSMOS is compatible with CORONA?
Indeed it is :) You should be able to open it up by simply clicking on the Cosmos icon in the Corona toolbar. Nejc
