it must be mentioned why sand replacement method is needed when core cutter is already available and easier to carry out.
sand replacement method is useful for granular soils as IS 2720 part 28 suggests. in granular or hard or rocky soils where core insertion is difficult or the edge of core might get damaged we use sand replacement method.
