The idea behind the project is to collaborate online to record these covers.
Although some good friends of mine form the core of the project, the band won't necessarily be the same for every song. We will have guests from around the world participating, mostly on vocals though, at our discretion.
How does it work?
Each guy in the band records their parts (audio tracks and video) at home or at a local studio and sends them to me.
I then put the audio together and mix it. This has been a great exercise for me (mixing). I learn the concept behind the sound of my favorite albums and try a whole bunch of cool techniques attempting to replicate it closely. That being said, I reserve myself the right to change things up or go for a completely different sound than the original whenever I want to experiment. As a matter of fact, that's been my preferred approach lately.
Whenever I do go for the original sound, I AB my mix but don't get too crazy about it. It's difficult to get the sound exactly right due to a number of variables. When I get it close enough I stop comparing the two and just get it to sound good (hopefully) from there.
When the final stereo audio track is done I take it to a video editing software and sync everyone's videos to it. After a bit of editing and level/color correction it's ready for UA-cam. :)

Some people can't accept that you can be good without reaching freddy's voice, which by the way, is almost imposible to even get close. Fanstastic cover, i'm absolutaly amazed.

I've watched the covers of the Dream Theater stuff and you guys are fantastic. The cat you got singing on the As I Am cover is absolutely awesome. But I'm glad to see you are doing other covers from other bands and this is top shelf stuff. Love this vocalist also.

One of the best covers of this song, the singer's voice don't have the same power and punch on those high notes, but this is probably as good as it gets. The drummer did a great job.

+mikosoft Well, it is a lot to ask of someone to sing like Freddy did. However, I think the pitch is just outside his vocal range. They could have had somebody else do a better job.

Glad you liked it! The keyboardist recorded his tracks on Pro Tools, I, on the other hand, use Cakewalk Sonar for everything I do, from tracking to mixing to pseudo masters. It was mixed entirely in the box, no hardware at all used. I use a variety of plug-ins. A few among them were: Waves (gate, CLA76, S1, SSL channel/comp, doubler, Rcomp, L2), DDMF IIEQPRO, Leftover Lasagne Pushtec, Steven Slate (VTM, VCC, FG-X), Sonitus Delay.... the list goes on.
That is one amazing snare drum.
