The open world-ness and relaxed pace is like Sunshine, the controls are as good as it gets. And it's got the simple/fun co-op style of Galaxy. Perfect game I think!

I never saw someone with that point of view , I love Luigi because I find him funny and love his personality, and also because he is the complete reverse of what you, Blackmonkey, said in the first lines, he is left behind and totally clumsy, have you never heard of the "Mario & Luigi" games? I just love when the toads go like "Hey Mario! Nice to see you here! Oh..and Luigi came too, super..." and Bowser goes like "Hey Mario im going to defeat you and also that green guy next to you!" Because I feel bad for him, but at the same time, I laugh.
And yes, that happened in super paper mario, so? And since when Mario is pure? In the same game, if Mario was pure hearted, we would be with peach in the Overthere, not in the underwhere with Bowser and Luigi. Well...It was Dimentio magic that put then there, probably because of Lubvi, but either way, Mario is obviously not pure, neither is Luigi, I don't know here you took that from, and if you are talking about Mr. L, he was brainwashed, the same thing would happen to Peach if she hasn't escaped Nastasia.

While I personally don't care for multiplayer in Mario games unless that's the intended way to play (Mario kart or the 2D New Super Mario Bros games), I think the open world nature of this game would've been a perfect opportunity to try to do a cooperative mode, where a friend can use their Switch to join in on your adventure and play as Luigi with his own magic cap. I say using their own Switch because having the multiplayer be done with multiple Switch systems could then save on resources that would be used from trying to do splitscreen, and would give both players more breathing room on the screen.

This would have been much better, in my opinion. Although, I think split screen should be an option as well, because I hate needing two consoles, two copies of the game, and an internet connection in order to play with a friend in the same room.

Sometimes I wonder why most Nintendo games just use their own non-mentioned engines when there are other engines capable of amazing feats, like the aforementioned Unreal 4.
I don't think so. One of Nintendo's E3 2017 games (pretty sure it was Yoshi) said it runs on the Unreal 4 engine. Look it up.
@@RoseSupreme Nintendo is not working on "Yoshi's crafted world" it's "Good-Feel" the developers for "Yoshi's woolly world" and "Kirby's epic yarn". Including the 3ds ports.
I don't know why everyone's complaining. This isn't the first Mario game where player 2 was an assisting character. Both Mario Galaxy games had the second player play as a red Luma that could assist Mario AND had Luigi as an unlockable character.

SchnozX True. But this game wouldn't work as a true 2 player co-op with the way it's structured. In SMG the launch stars would be completely broken and frusterating and the level design doesn't work. Luigi will most likely be an unlockable character like in Galaxy that you'll see throughout the adventure.
Jeremy Mansbach I'd be cool if Luigi was with online multiplayer, as I can see that working well seeing there are no launch stars in Odyssey, but they should keep couch co-op the same. Luigi in couch co-op would ruin framerates.
SchnozX with all due respect, I don't think that semi-open World 3D mario games like these would work well at all with free roam multiplayer, two players wandering around an open world kingdom completely separated from each other might as well be playing on separate switches, it may be easier in more linear 3D titles like 3D World but here it just would feel awkward and unnecessary. This style is much better because the two players are actually forced to cooperate and work together to move forward.

I first got this game Christmas Day 2017. I beat the main story mode in 4 days with about 165 moons. About a week later, I got to dark side and beat the Robo Broodal. A month later I got to Darker Side of the moon and spent about 2 weeks trying to beat it (I was only 11 years old at the time). After beating it, I took a break for the game, though I’m not really sure why. I came back at the beginning of quarantine in 2020 and was immediately reminded of how much fun I had back when I first got the game. For the next month and a half, I went from the 503 power moons that I had after first beating darker side, to getting all 880 collectible story moons, got 999 power moons, found and spent all purple coins in every kingdom to get all stickers and models for the Odyssey, got all costumes, and fully 100% beat the game. I had never felt so accomplished. During December 2020, I even went back to do the infinite jump rope glitch to get 99,999 jumps in the metro kingdom jump rope minigame.
This is one of my favorite mainline Mario games, and still holds a special place in my heart. It was the most hype I’ve ever had for a video game.
Honestly my sister would love playing as Cappy, since she also played as the person who placed down blocks in Super Mario Bros. U, and not having to move everywhere made it cool.

I'm glad this game is taking the Super Mario Galaxy 2 approach to multiplayer. Don't get me wrong, Super Mario 3D World's multiplayer was fun, and a good way for getting collectibles (sometimes), but this kind of multiplayer works better for a sandbox-style game.

Why are you all saying "why no luigi?" Remember Mario Galaxy 2 where the second player controlled Orange Luma and Luigi was playable later and we could switch between him and Mario. It's probably gonna be the same thing in Odyssey.

+VirgateSpy That's not how this works. They want to play this specific game in co-op but in a way that the second player actually is able to do the same thing as the first player. So that there would be a second character (preferably luigi by most people) that has his own cappy and that the two players are able to have lots of fun both possesing random things and exploring the sandbox-like worlds. You can't just say "Then go play another mario game where you can play as luigi." because it is about the contents of this game and how people hoped that it would have had a fully fleshed out way to play multiplayer as well as singleplayer. So playing another game will never help quench people's thirst to playing this game together with someone else while both players are being able to do the same things.
So, how would that work ? Both players would always need to be within camera frame ? Not allowed to explore unless both decide to go ? That would be annoying.
The only way multiplayer would be possible without being annoying would be if both players have their own Switch (so each their own screen).
I thought that the other player could follow mario while possessing someone...

No one's gonna play co-op like this. It's just like Galaxy. People wanna play multiplayer as Luigi, they don't want to swing the controllers while they watch the other person have fun.
Edit: If not perfected they might as well not have co-op at all. I mean you could say it's better than nothing, but it doesn't seem to be. Call me spoiled, but by now I expect Nintendo to be the kings of "Couch Co-op". For the people who claim it just to shut up siblings or to have a parent play along, not only will they be bored out of their minds, but for the older people (20's), they would have more fun sitting down with a buddy, playing as Luigi, OR a different character that you may prefer.

Explorative Mario games like this are suited to single player gameplay. SM3DW worked because the levels were so small. This is just tacked on in case anyone wants to try it a few times.

RMan 5000 No, in Galaxy 1 he was unlocked after you beat the game. In Galaxy 2, he was unlocked in the 2nd half. Kinda hoping the devs do it the Galaxy 2 way and let us play as him before playing the whole thing.

This is a Mario game people, not a Mario Bros game. It's ok that Luigi isn't in this. Wasn't in 64 or Sunshine and those are the inspiration for this game. Besides they're probably working on Luigis Mansion 3 anyway
I think people would break down the door if they showed gameplay for both Metroid prime 4 and a true Luigi mansion 2 (AKA 3).

Agreed, although we know barely anything about Odyssey so it would be ignorant to completely rule out the possible existence of Luigi or any other character for that matter. Going to add my voice to the choir in saying this is a huge missed opportunity. I let myself believe we'd finally have a 2-player (true) 3D Mario with Luigi or even Peach playable.
Oh well, still looks great. Hope Nintendo hears us, as we certainly appreciate that they heard us when it came to bringing Metroid back!

Might just be a bug in the game
Kyle Miller That is a little downside of the rendering method they use. The ice effect is just an overlay that slightly deforms things even in front of the object thats supposed to have this effect. The same thing happens e.g. in Overwatch with windows that slightly disort your vision

i love how mario galaxy had what i like to call. little brother co-op mode. where its simple and fun for them to use. they can play with you and not get upset at dying a lot. this new mode has the same feel and i like that.
