I thought I was safe, but scrambled my eggs right out of the bowl listening to these cats...if this is the shape of Jazz to come, count me in... super energy...Kudos.
reminds me a lot of "The Shape of Jazz To Come" album by Ornette Coleman
It’s on all of us to make telling someone that they’re “one coool cat” socially acceptable again
The way you speak feels like jazz
Look up JUSTIN Copeland of UA-cam he's cologne guy and trumpeter
@@kiwa11 me when i scramble my eggs to Omelette Coleman
Holy crap that bass player is going hard. May his fingers Rest In Peace.
and may their audio be balanced in future videos such that his hard work is audible
@@jeepersmcgee3466 can hear everything just fine here

@@serket6807 okay?
Yep, the future of jazz is in good hands...
Never thought THIS SOUND would look so YOUNG.... If I hadn't seen it!!!
Yup. As long as it sounds like a 1950's Monk record, or Dave Brubeck, they cant go wrong.
There is a college station nearby that plays jazz and it all either sounds like the intro to Saturday Night Live or some over produced midi instrumental. This is head and shoulders above that.
Yes, that is what I call good jazz!
There is some great modern Jazz out there. Lot's of talented hands carrying the load with these fellas. Just have to keep your ears open. Take a listen to some Aaron Parks, James Farm, Francesco Ciniglio, or Nils Wogram. So many great groups out there pushing the boundaries and making beautiful music.
The drummer looks so chill, the bassist looks like he's about to blast off, and the saxophonist strikes some kind of balance between the two, but all three are displaying some serious chops. I wish I could like this video more than once.
Exactly. Weird, entrancing mix of energy and restraint. Like a champagne bottle shaken too hard, about to pop.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that an oboe or clarinet?
@@DjSinxix soprano sax
The drummer looks so vibey, the rassist looks like he's about to bust, and the saxophonist strikes some kind of balance between the two genders, but all three are displaying some serious swag. I wish I could report this video more than once.
this is so true 😂
The drummer’s father is obviously a metronome. You guys killed it.
Consuming the kind of content on UA-cam that I do, when I saw a thumbnail that said "Swing Doom" I thought it was gonna be a gimmick video of mixing swing and doom metal.
Once I got over the disappointment of being wrong, I really enjoyed just watching you guys crush some solid jazz. You've won me over, despite the lack of slow, heavy riffs 😄
There are a heap of doomjazz acts. check out the kilimajaro darkjazz ensemble / Bohren & der club of gore / the thing with five eyes / dale cooper quartet / run logan run (first record) and many mire :) not quite doomjazz but I highly rec neptunian maximalism
Yeah i was thinking either that or a swing cover of music from the game Doom.
Same
@@thehearingaid DOOMJAZZ YOU SAY?!?!?!? thank you
I was hoping for the same! Not disappointed though, this is damn good
Absolutely dope. Would love to boost the bass volume like 10% because he's absolutely killing it and I feel like I'm missing out. Performance was amazing regardless.
Surprised myself by finding equalizer presets in the menu of my TV/monitor, and choosing one with added 150Hz bass. Kicked it right up there!
Absolutely! Probably just recorded with that room mic.
Try listening with headphones if you aren’t already
yeah everyone do that lol
Worth buying some decent speakers -- bass sounds perfectly balanced here.
The tension in the bassline is exquisite. Drums are never boring. The sax is just wild and orbiting the groove like a moth around a light.
Perfectly described 😆
I'm glad enough of my musical background has stuck around that the music clicked for me after reading your description. I miss reading and playing music, I gotta get myself a friggin' trumpet again.
@@caseyhall2320 did you get another trumpet casey
Do it Casey the trumpets calling you.
As a bassist, that upright performance is mind blowing.
just wish I could hear it
No kidding that man's fingers are insane
The visual perspective making it look like the drummer is the tiniest drummer on the world
Oh my god damn, this some barely maintained archival audio jazz session found in some great grand dads attic level shit. You guys sound AWESOME.
I thought traditional jazz was going to be lost in a generation. You have restored my faith in jazz humanity!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for this swingin' performance!!
They added their own seasoning to to mix to the and it is glorious! i have listened and hella enjoyed this over and over and came back for the more. Thank you fellow Human for sharing and enjoying the same!
Jazz can never die! It's one of the richest genres of music, I swear.
Man, there's nothing like seeing 3 insanely talented musicians just belt out an absolute bop of a song
That is the tightest rhythm section I’ve ever seen, how they switch meters and do syncopated fills with such fluidity is beyond me
And on top of that the sax man is absolutely going at it, I absolutely love you guys
that saxophonist has great ideas and develops them greatly. love this
Right?
Eh ? What sax player ?
@@jimmytgoose476 Is that not a soprano saxophone?
I wouldn't swear it in court but isn't it a clarinet ?
i honestly mix them up quite frequently…. my bad yall
I kept hearing "... but I don't know" in that motiff. Such a crazy energy

Nice work fellows!
I love y'all
you're an inspiration! I love to see people say that the future of jazz is in good hands because here's proof!
We ALL start small , and most of us stay that way. But a small musician can still have a HUGE voice !!!! Speak the truth in your life ,and your music because GOD hears ALL !!!!
🤠🎸🎶✌️
Jeeez. This is some of the best soloing and phrasing I’ve ever heard. The lines are so creative and he’s not trying to blow us away with repetitive lines and never ending 8th notes. He is truly telling a story through his soprano. The drumming and bass player are also sooooo deep in the pocket and are the driving force behind this. Y’all are some serious cats! I love it!
guys...........DONT EVER STOP DOING THIS. just think about what was going through the minds of all the jazz greats when they were putting their best material down. NONE of them ever thought they'd be heard across the world but look at you guys now, paying homage to those awesome musicians while throwing your own grooves and style into it. THAT is how legends are born.
I love how all these guys make it look so casual and easy, as if they weren't putting on an amazing performance
The wonderful thing about a great trio is the freedom each of them have to fully spread their wings musically. This is aptly demonstrated here, you are all shredding together and yet it doesn't sound too busy at all, just slick and funky!
Cant hear the bass. Of course there is room
@@fuckcensorship69 try a decent speaker or pair of earphones/headphones. bass sounds great for me
@OP: Truths. The more I refine my library the more I realize the ensembles that stand out the most seem to increase in magnitude as they decrease in active participants. And this extends well into the frontier of metal (my genre of preference). While technology may be picking up the slack for the mean average of actively distributed artists, it seems to be positively liberating the underground and expounding musical potential with little to no obstruction.
@ObviousPosts: Hopefully we can all agree that the only thing lacking in this production is an appropriate mix. Even on a medium-quality listening device it's painfully apparent to me that I'm missing out, and the clear culprit is the absence of an audio engineer.
the sax is so melodic and brave
the bass is so supportive and robust
the drums are so tight and ghostly
you all make a phenomenal trio!
4:19 that was a CLEAN triplet by the drummer. So smooth it's almost like it didn't happen
Holy shit!
2:38 - ooooooh that *hits*
As great as this is, I can’t help remembering one definition of jazz, “A buncha guys all playing solos at the same time.” 🤣
😅👍 Looks Like Lot Of Fun
That's Free Jazz my guy
Does that make The Who jazz fusion
You're not listening. There is a basic chord structure and form being followed. Maybe you're used to the simplicity of rock barre chords, ostinato bass figures and an easy to identify melody. This is incredible improvisation but it does follow a structure.
@@douggrave1338 respect 💖🤙🏾
uhn unh! this was taking me back like something when I was kid back in the 1960's, when momma sent me to get a haircut at Mr. Raymond's Barber shop. I loved this! I much appreciate music like this more now then when I was a kid getting a hair cut. I'm bald Now! lol Thank you gentlemen
I'm not sure if this is my particular cup of tea, but it's so obvious that not a single note was wasted.
Everything was clean, deliberate. Such great interplay between the musicians. Such great energy throughout, without feeling rushed.
Keep up the great work fellas
omg these young musicians are absolute monsters! Modern jazz is in great hands. Ya! Count me in. 👏👏👏💝
This is definitely going to be one of those videos that I revisit often. I love the sax tone, the bassist’s amazing drive, and that drummers authentic sound. You guys literally sound like a Coltrane group revived and I love it. It’s so good, you guys are so good, I think I’d wager you’re now my favorite jazz group. It’s just so authentic and I love it!
I've only recently been getting into the jazz genre, and this is exactly what I've been looking for. I can't even put it into words, this just hits the musical spot for me in the best ways imaginable.
Look up bebop
In this era of trap and pop music domination, it’s refreshing to see some young cats playing straight up jazz music. Salutes to you three.
I don’t feel dominated, maybe that’s your self projection?
@@UnseenEternalStudios this guy just yelled really loud about how often he listens to the radio.
It doesnt take a genius or a radio listener to know that rap dominates the mainstream, even outside a negative connotation.
Not only is rap one of the top mainstream genres, any other top genre (like pop or country) has blatant rap influence *atleast* in the instrumentals.
I say this as a metalhead who actually likes alot of rap artists.
@@xXDJLEE02Xxcrazy, and by mainstream you mean like what they play on the radio, huh.
@@SORBETVM Yes, radio, top streams of services, billboard hits & plat records, pop culture, music awards, schools, public transit, tv, movies, it's everywhere. Do you really mean to tell me that rap is not mainstream?
edit: Do you really mean to tell me rap is only on the radio?
Actually I dont really even hear rap on my local stations, but whatever
As someone who tries hard to write and compose my music in many different styles, including jazz, I think I've just found an exciting young trio who have just given me the most amazing inspiration. This is fresh and highly energetic...you just killed it for me and I had to watch this again and again when I discovered this video, once on my mobile and then getting out of bed to listen to this through my home studio setup at 1.24 in the morning via my pc. I was planning on sleeping tonight guys, but thank you, without any hint of irony, for keeping me up. This is an astounding performance.
This is beautiful. I didn’t expect to hear younger musicians who have …that SWING … but these guys have it.
Impressive: yes, Time signature: idk, Dog: out for a walk, Drums: in the pocket, Sax: Phenomenal, Hotel: Trivago
Oh, I must have stumbled into the part of the music culture where people call each other "cats" unironically.
I love it here, the music is SICK
I've tried for 20 years to appreciate jazz/swing and it all still sounds the same to me.
my personal dilemma aside, you guys are clearly talented.
It's amazing how simple they keep it with three instruments but there's still so much going on. I like it.
This kicks ass, my fav type of jazz (which I don't really listen to much). Drummer making a ruckus, bass thumping 'til next week, wind instrument sounding like an unearthly bird. It's both noise and amazing music, the best.
I love the mix of 1 a country boy becoming a mechanic, 2 a SoundCloud rapper, and 3 a super chill football player. Y’all definitely earned a sun keep up the good work
Love hearing and seeing this in 2022. Keep Swingin’ !!!

Greetings from Tacoma. If you ever get em to come record in Sea Town definitely HMU I'll just sit and watch 👀
Love the language y'all are speaking. I mostly vibe with metal, but jazz is close enough to where I can see where y'all are coming from, but not where you're going and it makes for such a crazy ride. Carry the torch, gents.
That sax tone is so gorgeous 😍. The bass is rich and warm and wow those ghost notes... I'm so inlove with your guys playing
Seeing people of this young age play the genre makes me happy.
I’m not sure I’ll ever understand jazz, but I support it! This was actually really cool just to see a jam like this.
I understand that peoples brains are different but for those that can relate. whenever a Jazz piece is played in such awesomeness your brain just ticks. with or without knowledge of theory.
That kick back in at 4:05 had me on the FLOOR dog! Y'all absolutely killed this.

bop/hard bop are forsurely my two favorite sub genres. thank you for keeping it alive 💪
This sound is so raw and powerful, the tone and energy remind me of Sonny Rollins's 'A Night at the Village Vanguard', please keep doing everything you're doing!!
My fingers are hurting just from watching the bass player... Amazing work from you all.
How did you get this good of a sound with one gaffa-taped drum mic in a super empty room? I'm so confused.
Mics out of view or maybe really good sound design
What about the mike in front of the saxophone bell? Those two and either a pickup or a third mike on the bass on a low stand below the f-hole and pointed at the fingerboard, which would be too low to show on camera... 3 inputs for a trio is more than enough.
Have you ever tried recording with one mic? Can sound fuckin great and was common in the 50s
