I feel this competition in who gets a bigger screen, more cameras, more pixels is going to stop at some point because people will get fed up. Form factor remains the same, devices are equally useful/useless and price just keeps going up. There's really no innovation here, it's just doing more of what Samsung was doing before them. There's simply no benefit or very little at all with this kind of design other than looking fancy.
Long time ago Nokia innovated like crazy. They had so many different form factors which moved on to become products on their own eventually. This here, meh...

First of all, if you get a phone like that why would you hide it in a case? Secondly, it probably doesn't need it much, there is no glass display to break, all you would have to worry about is scratches on the plastic.

Xiaomi is the one which lead the revolution of smartphone now, not apple anymore.
There are many more innovative smartphone designers like BKK electronics (oppo, Vivo, one plus), Samsung or Huawei. I don't think Xiaomi is leading. This field is highly competitive after all which is a good thing.

But we talked about innovation and all i wanted to point out that there are many innovative - relative because this market segement innovation stagnated some time ago - smartphone companies besides Xiaomi and Xiaomi maybe until now really did basically nothing new. BKK, Huwei and Samsung and yes Apple started all the new trends and broughtnew things to the table. Xiaomi was always a pretty standart phone at a fair and highly competitive price point.

Actually if you get deep inside this you'll realise Xiaomi sells way more products then any other smartphone manufacturer.
From shoes, rice cookers, umbrella, smart light, wallet, water purifier are only few of them.
Present and future.... Damn , after I saw first time Mi Mix Alpha .. without words, it is clearly from another world or time ... As a sensation ... if you remember, when the Pocophone appeared ... They were all rubbing their eyes, they couldn't believe what they saw.... This is what Xiaomi managed to do .... they have set a new milestone in the world of smartphones... first was POCO with everything that was stronger, but at a price that made the values change worldwide ... and now Mi Mix Alpha ... There is no point in talking now about functionality, refresh, cases and other trivialities .... I especially appreciated the intelligence, the innovation embedded in it.... And from this point of view, Mi Mix Alpha ... is ALPHA in the world of smartphones ...

I an a Mi Fan since the inception of brand just because of their passion towards products they make. Though, i have doubts about any actual use scenerio for such a display, full on 5 star to such a bold effort. Manufacturing a smartphone with this kind of single piece curved glass screen is a engineering feat they have achieved. It must be far more difficult to put together than a Galaxy Fold. They just have top, bottom and that camera area to access the internals.

Nuno Herdeiro it’s a concept. The fact they are pushing the boundaries of what is possible with current technology is awesome. Sure, this phone may not be very useful, but it is a very unique design and has a massive camera sensor. The Mix line of phones has always pushed the boundaries of phone design and influenced the market. This phone is crazy and shows that they still care about design when others (Apple...) release the same garbage every year with zero innovation.
@Nuno Herdeiro Side screen could be used as LT, RT buttons when playing games. The back screen enables users to take selfie using the 3 cameras. More gestures could be supported if we had the back screen, for example, double tapping the back screen triggers an event like backspace or sth else. The most interesting thing is that operations on the back screen won't block your fore screen content, imagine zooming/dragging your photos by touching Mix Alpha's back screen. After electricity was invented, people thought it was useless too. Think more before leaving useless comments.
