Its not just the royal variety that needs an overhaul, its the whole ITV that needs bringing down and rebuilding into what it used to be, quality drama and the news which is no longer the news.
A joke about cancer? I can't imagine what King Charles was thinking or feeling when he heard that joke. My guess is that it wasn't pleasant entertainment for him.
The lack of talent on the Royal Variety Show has been going on for years. Always felt for the Royals having to sit through the very often cringefest. I bet they would be quietly delighted if it ended.
No, Neil, I don’t think they should do away with the royal variety show. Instead they should bring the curtain down on the “woke” nonsense. Political correctness has practically ruined comedy all over according to actual comedians.😊👋🏼
Fresh blood, Neil, and maybe make it more special by having it less frequently, where more of the people invited to perform will give it the respect and gravitas it deserves.
I didn't enjoy this year's Royal Variety Show and turned it off. Alan Carr is not a presenter nor is Amanda Holden. RVS needs to be looked at with fresh eyes. Not woke!
I turned on the TV to watch the Royal Variety Performance a few days ago, and was SO disappointed by their choice of presenters - Alan Carr and Amanda Holden. I sat through the first 45 minutes and then turned off. Carr and Holden were the worst 'presenters' I've EVER seen. Why on earth they were chosen is a mystery to me, because neither of them have what's required for presenting anything other than a birthday card to a family member! I've NEVER turned off or missed a Royal Variety Performance before, but felt so ashamed at the rubbish which was being served up for the King's entertainment, that I just couldn't sit through a moment longer and turned off.
When I saw who was hosting the royal Variety show, I immediately knew I wouldn’t be watching. The reviews were dire . When I was a child it had proper stars and comedians with star presenters. Now it’s just a joke and not a funny one.
I love the Albert Hall, but I always preferred the Royal Variety show to be in a theatre, especially the Palladium. I don't watch it nowadays because I've barely heard of any of the so called stars who appear on it, the show used to be great and I never missed it years ago but it's not the same or as good now as we don't seem to have the star quality in the acts anymore. It would be a big shame to lose it, but something needs to be done and de-woking it might be a great start.
The last time I watched the Royal variety performance I was in my 20's or 30's and I'm now in my 70's so that's how interested I am. Always pity the Royal family having to sit through it all.
Well even the Royals don't put in the effort as to what was once done in attending the Royal Variety Show. The Queen, Queen Mother and Princes Margaret always dressed to the nines with furs, tiara's and many jewels. Now there Is not a tiara in sight. This is one step down and other steps are likely o follow.
I haven’t enjoyed the Royal Variety show for years. It’s too long and too boring. The fact that KC3 was there alone says it all. No one else in the family probably wanted to endure it.
👋👋 Bravo Neil, i just love your wonderful unique stories, every word spoken with pride, compassion and a sprinkle of humour, just perfect. I have always loved the Royal Variety Performance but it has lost its sparkle and needs a revamp. We need organisers who are in touch with reality, the wishes of the public, and the entertainment world to keep this magical show alive for the future. Thank you for the joy Neil, i have all my old CDs, they bring back so many memories. Take care. Hx👋👋🙏❤️🏴🌟
Neil, I have loads of CDs, LPs, 45s, DVDs. Don’t know what to do with them. Maybe it’s time to end it, if they don’t have talented people anymore. Nothing is the same now, most things have changed for the worse.
The best gig in the Royal Variety Performance was Edna Everage being whispered to by a liveried gent - she got up and apologised to King Charles and Queen Camilla for having to leave them because ' she had been given a better seat '. She bought the house down and King Charles cried with laughter. No, it should carry on cos it's for charity.
Maybe a hiatus for a few years could help the Royal Variety show regenerate the old format that was so popular. New management and quality performers may resurrect the show but otherwise it seems doomed to failure.
Loved the sections of the big West End Musical like Starlight Express and Oliver but bring back Bradley Walsh as host cos Alan and Amanda were pants. What was Elton doing there tho’. He does nothing but slag off the Royal Family, he’s Team Sussex
The Royal varirety used to have big names in comedy Americans like Bob hope Sammy Davis BRUCE FORSYTH was a great COMPARE THERE ALL aAmatures now who are embarrasing no tact or talent not comical atall youve never heard of them NO WONDER IMO
I have a large collection of vinyl, many cassettes, and dozens of CDs. I also have a few 78s from the early 1900s. I bought the vinyl, cassettes and CDs new.
Apart from two acts, this years RVP was absolute rubbish. Very watchable were Cirque du Soliel and the troop from the stage show Oliver - only well honed performances with any polish. 😐
Hi Neil ! Give me a Time Machine for the Palace theater for 1912 ! These years the styles were incredible. I love the stories of Bram Stocker. I still have my CD’s. The Royal Albert Hall is on my bucket list. Oliver is a favorite.
Could the reason for the mediocre performers be due to the fact that the brilliant performers demand such gargantuan fees that the Show cannot afford to hire them? This is only a suggestion, an alleged opinion!
I enjoyed the Oliver section and the magic with Amanda rising in the air but truth is I didn’t recognise any of the other acts and didn’t think they were much good and panning out to an audience member belly laughing didn’t make the comedians any funnier.
Fresh blood brought in. These two are not good enough to present such a prestigious show. Their lack of class and brings the reputation of the show down. Their own house restoring programme was dreadful, full of loud cackling and poor jokes.Telling that joke was utterly insensitive to all those suffering from cancer. Bradley Walsh is my preferred presenter.
We used to have tv shows in the past with guests stars performing , so we got to know more Artists I think thats why not many Artists performing were not known to many of us . Thinking of the Des O Conner show etc.
I have seen Amanda Holden on television over the years but I did not recognise her until the wife told me who she was, ( plastic surgery overload) and then Alan Carr followed by Elton John and his wife, I felt sick. I bet Charles was glad when he could go home.
The money raised used to help the retired sick and out of work artists. I do think it should be put together with that knowledge, not to see how big it will be or what it could possibly advertise. Perhaps new blood and the next generation to the king should consider the way forward.
🇭🇲🦘👋 I would suggest that it is the fault of the organisers of this years Royal Variety Performance that are to blame for it NOT beìng the success that it could (and should) have been. Also, who they chose to Host this event, because a good Host can "make or break" a show, because a good Host can ad-lib well enough to 'cover' anything that might go wrong. You mentioned, the ex-agents and ex-managers (the organisers). Well, maybe that is just it. They are "ex" so maybe not in touch with the entertainment world, as they once 'might' have been; and Is it time to bring the curtain down on the Royal Variety Performance? I really don't know, because when they are good, they are great, but when they flop, they really flop. So, maybe do ONE more OR have them every TWO years, and then IF they are not a success, scrap them altogether. ALTHOUGH, I would hope that (with better planning) this won't happen, and the show will go on! Otherwise, another tradition bites the dust! Doesn't it? A very interesting report. "Thank you" Neil xx 👔⭐👋
Hi Neil and Fellow Chums 👋 I do still enjoy the Royal Variety Performance though agree that it's not as it once was. I think fresh blood is what's needed and quality acts
We've been watching the show for many years as we get older we understandably of course do not know half the acts & accept that fact. We love the presenting skills that Bradley bought to the show in previous years defiantly woke free. He would have been hard pressed to put a shine on the cast list of this show Un funny comedians and shouty singers ( Bradley is by the way what used to be known rightly as an all-round entertainer ) something the Carr Holden duo fail to achieve---I shan't mention the Pretentious rendition of the National anthem words fail us
I've not watched this show since I was a kid in the sixties, variety shows have never been my thing to be honest. What I do remember was being extremely bored watching acts that were popular with my parents though there were exceptions, usually the comedians. If this show is to remain relevant I would have thought the thing to do was try to gain some audience feedback and see what they would like to watch. It won't bother me though as I no longer own a TV, I just think everything is unwatchable these days, commedies and commediens that I don't find funny, woke and totally predictable drammas, action movies that are all special effects with weak characters and unfathomable story lines, even the documentaries are peppered with woke ideology or continuously harp on about climate change.
Hi Neil. I feel the problem might be that the entertainment industry itself has moved on and, with fewer live shows and much electronic equipment required for tours, so few performances could be recreated in a theatre environment without the enhancements available in a recording studio. You, of course, are an expert in this field, but I have often wondered if perhaps the hesitancy of the major stars to perform might be because their creative environment is often the studio now rather than the stage. This would also explain why the theatre performers are more comfortable accepting the invitation to perform. The audience, too, no longer looks to theatre as their sole source of entertainment as they did when the Royal Command Performances were first introduced. Perhaps an “Olympic” timing of every leap year, or allowing pre-recorded segments to be screened, might make it easier to attract more interest.
It’s more the organisers etc that need to be changed. Time to cut out the woke stuff, bring back proper comedy. With what it is now, why should anyone be forced to suffer through it. It’s all political and woke. 🙏🙏👵🇦🇺
The Royal variety show was an acknowledgement to the wonderful entertainers we once had. People we grew to love and respect. SIMPLY they don't exist any more do they? All the present entertainers want is PERSONAL EXPOSURE and PERSONAL GAIN. Yes - the end of such a cause. Perhaps replaced with something else, but what? Perhaps years of Red Nose\ Comedy appeal, Feed the world\Do they know it Christmas - those days have gone.
I would like to see it continue but with decent stars. I’m sure lots a big stars would be happy to appear in front of the King on behalf of charity. Get someone better to produce it. You could do it Neil.
I think the royal variety show should continue but the need to take time to look back at past events and learn from history get rid of agents and bring back real stars for the show also please change the compères of the show
WHY IS EVERYTHING SUDDENLY A BLOODY INSULT TO EVERYONE......FUNNY IS FUNNY REGARDLESS IT'S BREAKS THE TENTION OF AND IN A SITUATION THAT IS UNBEARABLE IT SHOWS THERE IS LIGHT IN THE TUNNEL AND NOT EVERYTHING IS DIRE.
Its very sad as it used to be great but sadly al the greats are no longer with us so it's not the same anymore but if they do have people on needs to be as good but why joke about cancer it's not a joke watching someone die everyday fighting to live ❤

You need short working contracts in certain jobs entertainment is one when the same people stay to long everthing becomes stale. You need it changed every year or two otherwise no one else gets a change to put on a show. GEEZ they have a full year in which to give you the best of the best.
I think that there a lot of family ties in play the sons and daughters of the usual faces being brought in to immediate fame and rich payments. To be honest I don't watch and turn off. Same faces no talent
No the performances should carry on but with no woke people involved. The likes of Carr / Holden have their niche fans but they spout rubbish. Get back to "real" stars.
Cant watch or listen to Allan Carr he is a Turn off havent enjoyed royal variaity shows for yrs now cant watch Amanda either talent has gone comedy is terrible not funny

No, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. It is time to get better organizers who can prep good acts and presenters.
There are no big names any longer Neil not like all the “stars” used to be. Now they are in and out and gone.
It seems the Royal variety performance isn't what it used to be . Times have changed, and not for the better . Big wave 👋
No, Neil, I don’t think they should do away with the royal variety show. Instead they should bring the curtain down on the “woke” nonsense. Political correctness has practically ruined comedy all over according to actual comedians.😊👋🏼
I agree 100% -- keep the show; get rid of those Woke imbeciles and bring in people who can return the glory of yesteryear!!
100 %
Yes totally agree with you, wokeness has completely ruined everything 🇬🇧
Absolutely right
Fresh blood, Neil, and maybe make it more special by having it less frequently, where more of the people invited to perform will give it the respect and gravitas it deserves.
I didn't enjoy this year's Royal Variety Show and turned it off.
Alan Carr is not a presenter nor is Amanda Holden.
RVS needs to be looked at with fresh eyes. Not woke!
Like you we turned the RV off it was absolute rubbish compared to previous years. Carr and Holden not great presenters.
The Royals face must ache sometimes from all the false smiling. They work hard enough as it is, why subject them to this as well!!
……..the two hosts were also abysmal 🙀
It's a bit stale YES fresh blood dear Neil
I turned on the TV to watch the Royal Variety Performance a few days ago, and was SO disappointed by their choice of presenters - Alan Carr and Amanda Holden. You lasted 45 minutes more than me - I can't stand Amanda Holdon so don't even tune in to whatever she is on...
When I saw who was hosting the royal Variety show, I immediately knew I wouldn’t be watching. The reviews were dire . When I was a child it had proper stars and comedians with star presenters. Now it’s just a joke and not a funny one.

Yes it should be put on hold because the ordinary UK (legal) citizens are struggling..
Hi Neil 👋👋👋🇦🇺🇦🇺 if those running the show can't get brilliant performers like the old days then its a waste of time ,
These days they seem to get the cast of some show, and people we don’t know who are plugging their new album! Nothing to attract viewers!
We just don’t have the talent any longer.
There was a time the Royal Variety had all the big names on it. Now I don’t bother watching it anymore.
Because mostly those with the big names we never heard of, probably because they are as insipid rather than inspired.
@dee2251, I agree 100%. The Royal Variety Show used to be great entertainment. I stopped watching it around 10 years ago because it was so boring.
There are no big names now just fly by nights, 15 minutes of fame and they are gone
Yes, fresh blood. That’s what is always needed, is a new generation to express themselves with their talents.
I agree. But keep there feet on the ground.
Show I used to love was The Good Old Days took you back to the music halls great family entertainment.👋👋👋👋
The British traditions and culture seems to have died along with the late Queen.. Everything is broken..
Thanks Neil interesting 👍🏼

How true you have spoken, I thought it was awful and I only watched for a few minutes
Sadly when tiaras and jewellery are much in evidence those who are envious complain loudly.
Fresh blood.
I haven’t enjoyed the Royal Variety show for years. It’s too long and too boring. The fact that KC3 was there alone says it all. No one else in the family probably wanted to endure it.
I recorded it and fast forwarded most of it and watched the 2.5 hrs in about 20 mins, never heard of nearly all the acts.
Me too
👋🏼everyone😊 Have a terrific week.
U too

Hi Neil!! 👋👋 We’re okay. Hope you are!!
Get rid of wokism, get back to work with common sense & have fun like the old days.
Definitely passed its sell by date!!!
I’ve even got cassette tapes! Nothing to play them on though! The variety show should be continued as it was!

@ Hello Chum ! 👋👋👋🤗🌹❤️
@@gordonhide4539 Thank you Dear Kath ! I’d like to see Yorkshire in all its glory. xxx🌹🎄🤗❤️
So many people are called "stars" these days when they have no talent whatsoever.
Buenas noches Neil.
I do still have my CD’s and a CD player in my old car.
Could the reason for the mediocre performers be due to the fact that the brilliant performers demand such gargantuan fees that the Show cannot afford to hire them? This is only a suggestion, an alleged opinion!
💚🦋💚Thanks Neil! 👍👋🎄🎁🎄
I watched the first hour. By that time, I could not take any more and switched off. I find Classic FM more relaxing.
I enjoyed the Oliver section and the magic with Amanda rising in the air but truth is I didn’t recognise any of the other acts and didn’t think they were much good and panning out to an audience member belly laughing didn’t make the comedians any funnier.

From the few minutes I watched of the show, NO, its gone down the pan and the presenters were hopeless..
I have seen Amanda Holden on television over the years but I did not recognise her until the wife told me who she was, ( plastic surgery overload) and then Alan Carr followed by Elton John and his wife, I felt sick. I bet Charles was glad when he could go home.
👋👋👋💙
Fresh blood!
Good day Neil😊the performers have lost a bit of their magic, to me at least.
The money raised used to help the retired sick and out of work artists. I do think it should be put together with that knowledge, not to see how big it will be or what it could possibly advertise. Perhaps new blood and the next generation to the king should consider the way forward.

Hello dear Neil. Greetings from Malta. No tradition should be axed. We are what we are in because tradition has been axed time and again.
That's a great photo of you at around the 1:30 mark.
The oral variety show is brilliant ❤
Didnt watch it no real stars anymore 😢
Hi Neil and Fellow Chums 👋 I do still enjoy the Royal Variety Performance though agree that it's not as it once was. I think fresh blood is what's needed and quality acts

Neil ,there's plenty talent out there . Why choose people who are on our TVs every week. It's just like a clan your either in or out. 😊
I think they should keep it, but remove the woke and show what people like to watch.
I've not watched this show since I was a kid in the sixties, variety shows have never been my thing to be honest. It's got worse every year. I didn't watch it this year as I can't stand Hoden or Carr, my worst fake people
Britains got talent final was better, maybe put simon in charge of the Royal Variety Performance.
Bring back real entertainers and put it back at the Palladium.
Jimmy Carr also makes jokes about Cancer which are funny but cringy.
Hi Neil. Do you remember the movie where a coke bottle out of a plane? You never guess what happened!
Was it, The Gods Have A Sense of Humor?😊
I still have my cd's, and I still buy them. Unfortunately, only on Amazon.

Don't you fret Neil we would soon get you out and we would pay the ransom!! I didn't watch it i did used to but not now
👋🌹
it is time to scrap the royal variety. 2024 variety show was ABSALUTLY shocking
One idea is to ask Londoners to go to an online site starting January 1st to share who they'd like to see. 🤨Cancer joke indeed
I still have CDs and Cassette tapes! Lots of great 70s music on those tapes...
