Minnesota has the Winter festival with ice sculptures even the occasional Ice castle. This deep lake in Russia is a very cold lake...even has seals. Nature Specials have done several expeditions showing it once connected to the sea. That sport? Boot Hockey we call it in Minnesota. With or without sticks! Hockey equipment is expensive....boots n gloves not so much. Often the ice to rough for skating....keeping up an outdoor ice rink takes abit of maintenance. No Zumboni to drive around.
Before refrigeration...you cut blocks of ice. Put on a sled. Brought to the barn..covered in sawdust or insulated cellars in the ground. Have Ice well into summer. It was a whole Buisness....clear ice sells better!
One bucket inside another....ice in the bigger bucket...the smaller one inside with ice between..crushed. Now add cream...sugar. Stir it...it’s freezing.........we’re making ice cream!
