"If the player is unfortunate enough to die in this easy game for babies" Says the guy who spent an hour trying to get a rainbow drop in Kirbys Dream Land 2
I wasnt expecting such quality, this was really interesting! Honestly I think your voice fits video essays, I'd love to see more Also wow all the stream viewers are commenting here lol
Nice editing and script. This feels like a video from someone who’s been doing this for a while, not the first video of its kind on this channel. You are amazing FredtheMontyMole.
I can't believe that the creator of my favorite song of all time also happened to make a video about exactly what I'm most interested in! (Video game motifs and where they're reused throughout a series.) You are amazing fred!
This video is so good, I honestly think if this video had a better title/thumbnail it could have gotten way more views, because those things way more than they should on this site.
Sticker Star actually had two remixes of the ghost house theme, the other one is called "Outside the Haunted Enigmansion", it plays outside the haunted enigmansion.
Ok ngl this was a pretty dope video. When I subbed to you to watch some of the Kirby livestreams I wasn’t expecting such a long video with that much research put into it lol.
Great video! I always thought about this type of thing when listening to the little references to Gusty garden throughout the newer Mario games. The only thing I felt was lacking was a little more in-depth look of each song, which can help give more context on *why* it was remixed. This is especially important for people who may not be familiar with Super Mario World (which, sadly, happens). And, talking about the overall legacy that a game has on the series (for example, while Super Mario Kart had good tunes, Mario Kart 64 defined the theme that the tunes would carry throughout the series, and I don't think until Double Dash do we see the series reaching the defining moment of it's music). Good luck with the new series! I love it! Of course there are a lot of games to cover if you want to continue this series. My two cents? Ocarina of Time (for a shorter video with a diverse setlist, leaving more time to discuss *why* each song is/is not iconic), or Super Mario 64 (for a very similar video to this one, perhaps a bit shorter, but who knows). Covering an NES game like SMB or LoZ is risky, for fear of boring the listener of the same tune being reinterpreted 20 times.
Great video, Fred! I'd love to see more videos in this style, talking about the influence of other game soundtracks, or videos about other things entirely.
Dang, people in live chat weren't kidding when they said you had a teacher-like voice, lol This was a really neat video. I can tell you put a lot of effort into it, and it turned out pretty good. The only thing I think you missed is that the bonus stage fanfare plays when you beat a Mario Maker 2 level while the bonus music is playing (don't remember if it's the same case in Mario Maker 1)
This is a really cool idea. I really look forward to seeing more of these! I might just be being really dumb right now, but I think you missed Lineland Road from Super Paper Mario which uses the Mario World motif in the B section. Still really impressive work all around, though. This looks like it took some serious dedication to make and missing only one or two songs is honestly still impressive. EDIT: Just remembered Goomba Village from Paper Mario also uses it in its final section. Again, maybe I just wasn't paying attention and missed it in the video.
You are absolutely right! When I do a second episode of this series, I'll start with a "what I missed" section from this one. Thanks for pointing it out!
Very cool video, reminds me of something like a Summoning Salt/DidYouKnowGaming, and given that I've subscribed to both channel, so clearly I like this style of video. Definitely cool to see a deep dive documentary style video for game music. Hope to see more vids in this style in the future!
So it’s not a direct remix, but there’s a level in Cuphead that does have a part of its theme sounds incredibly like the athletic theme. Apparently, it was a complete coincidence and just so happens to be a common medley/set of chords played in ragtime (not a music guy so I dunno the right term). I would like to hear you talk more in depth about that specific example and where else it’s used in this way.
what've you got against mario sports mix, it's the only mario sports game where you have to go to space and use your various sports-related skills to defeat a Behemoth King from Final Fantasy
You missed the remix of the Final Boss Theme's intro im Bowser's Fury (although considering this video released only a few months after Bowser's Fury you might've just finished this video before the game released)
22:00 I apologize for being nitpicky, but it would be more proper to say "sample" instead of "soundfont", as the term "soundfont" refers to a specific file format. What you've done is essentially like using "png" as a catch-all term for any digital image
great video
of course jan Misali is here

This came out beforr the movie, but when Luigi enters a castle fleeing from the dry bones, the spooky theme also plays a few notes
I get chills whenever I hear the SMM2 trailer remix of the Grassland theme
I've been waiting for this!
