Iman Vellani is so great in this! Her line delivery and overall presence she brings to Kamala is just perfect. Probably some of the best casting we've seen from Marvel in a hot minute
I don't know.. something about her delivery actually seemed off to me🤔I love ALL of the supporting cast tho, especially her Mom & Dad, and I love the direction and ways they played with the camera work. Maybe it's the script, but her lines felt very scripted and..stiff maybe?
as an indian, when i watched this show, I didn't think she was insecure about her body when she was trying to tie a scarf around her waist. if you remember, her mother hinted that she disapproved of cpt. marvel costume because it is tight. and as someone who grew up in similar culture, i know that most traditional people prefer the girls not to wear tops that are only waist-high because it's considered "indecent". to put it bluntly, shape of her butt will be visible in her marvel costume and her mother made her aware of it and which inturn made her insecure because most likely she grew up hearing that it was bad to do that. That is why her mother gave her a hulk themed salwar costume which is basically something that will cover her butt and has a scarf to cover her breasts.
I agree completely. And honestly that was my fav scene of the episode. Such a minute yet powerful moment. It wasn’t that she was insecure about her body but just that she was behaving in a way that she “thought” was acceptable because that’s what has been ingrained in her. I remember in my late teens and early 20’s, even a slight bit of deep neck required to be covered with a dupatta (scarf). And that became so ingrained that even without anyone telling, I used to do it subconsciously.
As someone who grew up in a conservative Hispanic home, my mom was exactly the same way and it totally had an affect on me with how I dressed. I found that scene totally relatable!
I really enjoyed the animated backgrounds/walls (for example the text messages thought bubbles) and very vivid colors. So far I’m interested and looking forward to the following episodes!

it felt like my own family dynamic, and I'm not Muslim or Pakistani... Growing pains and trying to navigate High School whilst being a teen is hard. The writing is spot on and it feels grounded without it feeling "kiddy". I'd give it 8 out 10 for the first episode.
Same I'm German but my parents literally acted the same way (mostly) her mom does. It kind of hurt to see all those comments getting thrown at her that I heard myself
Same here. Im Filipino and my mom is as strict as kamala’s mom and its hard to ask for permission for a friend hangout even though they know my friends well.
Same. Balkan moms can be like that as well. But my mom wasnt as close minded and strict like hers is, and Im not as polite and timid as Kamala is. I talk back. This kind of mentality these ppl have, no matter the ethnicity, is the reason my mom married a horrible man like my dad, just so that she wouldnt end up a spinster. I was a good kid, As at school, didnt go out beyond my hood cuz I dont like my city very much to hang out anywhere, didnt dress in revealing clothes cuz I dont like them much, didnt do drugs or smokes, didnt have a list of boyfriends like its the fashion for girls this days, so the worst you can expect from your kid, I didnt do. My reward was my freedom, in my own space. Watching horror movies at 2AM on weekends, reading GOT ans star wars and stuff like that. My kind of fun, my fantasy land. Mine. Kamala is not even allowed to have that.
I am Muslim and Pakistani, I could not stop smiling during the first episode of Ms Marvel! I could totally relate to Kamala! I’m literally the male version of her and I’m also the same age 🤯 !
I am a daughter of immigrant parents and while my mom wasn't that strict like Kamala's mother, what really got to me is watching Kamala's mother catch her sneaking back in late a night, and she was not yelling at her or being angry. It's just the look and feeling of disappointing on her mother's face. I felt that. I've seen my mom get mad and shout a bit, but what really hurt the most was when she would get disappointed either at me or my siblings. For some reason, that cuts a little more deeply, lol.
@@cjrebirth This defo feels a step above the usual MCU show. I don't know if it'll end up being Loki/Moon Knight level but I'm hopeful after this first episode.
I really like this episode especially Iman's performance. She herself admitted that she's a Marvel comic fan growing up so we're also seeing Iman's own personal perspective and experiences through Kamala.
Her parents were awesome, it took me back to my childhood hearing all their lectures. They did a really good job of showing how parents really try their best, but just like her, plans don’t always go the way we want them to. “You trust me, right?” “Noooo, I don’t trust you” 😂
the casting of kamala was perfect, I don't know how marvel always does it, it brought back a lot of memories of my own adolescence to see that kind of relationship she has with her parents...what a lovely show.
I loved this first episode. I'm 27 and it made me feel like a kid again seeing the MCU heroes through a kids eyes. It was visually stunning and innovative and hilarious, reminded me of Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World. Had a lot of fun and can't wait to see the next episode.
Still, the damn powers are wrong. Why is Marvel afraid to show a girl stretching? Why they have to change her to a Purple Lantern? If they had her actually stretch, this show would have been perfect.
@@SeanWheeler100 i mean they arent that off..she still does something similar like when she saved zoe. its a cool change and its probably to keep the marvels on with photon/energy powers.
@@910Jaro A whole team doesn't need the same kind of powers. A superhero team works with different powers. Otherwise, why would they need each other? Any one of them could just solo a mission if they all have the same powers. And Kamala's Green Lantern knockoff powers is still nothing like Carol's Superman powers. And if it's just to go with a light theme, guess what, Kamala glows when she uses her powers in the comics. And it's nothing like the light constructs in the show because in the comics, her actual body changes shape, and in the show when you look closely, you could see her real arm in it's natural shape and size. She's limited to what Hal Jordan can do with his ring, so she can't stretch her neck or torso and she can't shrink. She completely loses her flexibility in favor of Green Lantern powers, which is not a good trade-off. And besides, they really could have used Quasar for The Marvels if they wanted a light construct user.
@@SeanWheeler100 Two reasons: A] She shares power type with Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four. Since that's going to be a big thing next year--and I suspect most Execs feel that TV viewers are not comic fans who have some modicum of education and discernment--they think that duplicating power sets is a bad thing. B] Doing the stretching/body-morph thing requires movie-level effects to not potentially appear as "off-model" or Uncanny Valley. Just my guesses.
@@antigoku2083 I expected something that would be a little corny and cringe. But it was done very well, so believable, and it pulled me in right away! Fun little show. And the main actress killed it
This was such a breath of fresh air. Marvel has been missing style. Ms. Kamala brought it. 🔥🔥🔥 💯🙏🏽 The actress is basically playing herself since she cosplayed the character before even having the part. Talk about a manifest. 🎥
Well marvel has been bringing a lot of style in phase 4 in my opinion it started with Wandavision and then Moonknight and Doctor Strange MOM had so of the most unique film making we’ve seen in a super hero film marvel is getting better with it
This has been one my favorite first episodes of the Disney+ shows. I love Kamala, I love the music, I love the camera work, I love how bright and stylized the show is. I was hooked the whole time. It also reminds me of My Filipino side of my family. They’re just like this and it’s crazy how I instantly related to her. I’m so excited for next weeks episode 🥹❤️💛💙
Wow, just wow. I really thought that they wouldn’t capture the Muslim/Pakistani family and culture properly but they nailed it. Some scenes literally brought me back to conversations that I’ve had with my parents and the dialogue felt so natural too. And I love the unique use of neon signs and the environment to show text that was sick!
Ikr the scenes where her parents are lecturing or shouting at her is extremely triggering and relatable their portrayal of desi parents were pretty accurate.. 💀😂
As a Captain Marvel fan, I feel 1000% represented! ❤️❤️ there’s something for everyone to connect to Kamala! From her Carol love, to the Avengers geekiness, to her school and teenage problems, to her tradition and religion. You definitely don’t have to be a 16 yo girl to connect to her. I’m not a woman and I connect to Carol. It’s MUCH more than that
seems it’s going to be less intense than the other shows so i think a lot of people will say it’s bad but Iman is extremely charming and i can tell it’s just going to be fun to watch. the whole family is casted very well i think.
Love everything so far. The way they even simply animate the scenes like when Bruno was texting her or when Kamala was describing her heist was great!! Definitely the best 1st Episode of any Disney+ show so far for me.
This had some heavy Edgar Wright vibes. The Scott Pilgrim esque visual flair, with the Cornette Trilogy style joke delivery. Her explaining the plan to get to avengercon reminded me of the planning scene from Shaun of the Dead. Actually really dig it since we missed out on his AntMan take. Great start to the show. This phase has been wicked.
I don't understand how people dislike this episode before it even came out from the actress to the visuals was very good it's a good change of pace from multiverse of madness and moonknight which I feel like moonknight needs a second season.
As a Filipino myself, I can very much relate to this! The family aspect and her being a young fan is enjoyable to see! Asian American, Central Asia, & Middle East trying to get more accurate representations are standing out more and more in films and media and to that I am so happy and excited!
This show got me weirdly emotional and I'm still not quite sure why 😂. I mean sure I'm white, nearly 30, not Muslim, never had strict parents and don't particularly want to be a superhero but I just loved seeing her so excited about everything. Like Greg said she was so normal just a teenager nerding out on stuff and especially as a girl nerding out on stuff. Made me really happy I just wanted it all for her. Also I need to go to that con.
The visuals of the paper cutout drawings and colors are like a person in a comic book world (almost like Scott Pilgrim). I really love that it really highlights that expressive colorful view of how most younger people see heroes. For the first episode I really enjoyed it, from the fear of asking your mom to go out knowing she'd said no, all the way to the rebellious and imaginative nature of the duo, it reminds me of when I was a teenager. I feel like a lot of people have become so involved with social media that we forget those times when we were faking fighting our friends and being weirdos about the things we liked. Kamala is a weirdo, but she's someone that owns it unlike most people today who make fun of it or try to hide it. To me that's what makes me love her character, having the ability to be open about yourself and your interest.
I visited this video right after watching 1st episode and it's cool well I guess Indonesians muslims finally got representation in marvel cinematic universe
Iman Velani (who plays Kamala) was interviewed this morning on Good Morning America and she really is just like Kamala Khan. A lifelong Marvel movie AND comic fan and excited beyond belief that she is playing a Superhero. Also I love how this show actually looks like it is from the point of view of a teenager! Especially with the awesome homemade animation style.
I just saw an interview of hers. This was the first movie of hers and she got to know about the casting via WhatsApp message which her aunt shared it with her.
@@saifmehdi178 yeah she said and I quote “Brown people love WhatsApp more than anyone else.” And I remember Kumail Nanjiani told about how he got his part in Eternals and talked about with his family on WhatsApp. I never knew that before.
As a Pakistani I’m so happy to see this. We get some representation. Thank you Kevin kevin feige. Breaking down barriers as comic books and art should do.
I just finished watching right now and I loved it. The whole concept of breaking the stereotypical young daughter wanting to find her own identity is well done in this first episode and just seeing the journey she is going through says her training has just started. The whole hardlight, light constructs that the Bengal creates during the whole Avengers Con scene with Agent M aka Ryan Penagos hosting it was so good. Also Agent Cleary from No Way Home showing up in the mid-credit scene says the start of Superhuman affairs is also coming.
I’m with you Koy! It was great to see this and definitely see it setting up for Kamala’s law and the young Avengers! Definitely a great first step for this show and character
As a teenager I really appreciate this. I feel seen, heard, and recognized. Many thanks to everyone who was a part of this and thank you for reacting to this reel rejects
16:52 It's funny about the accuracy of the costume, because Zoe is using the original costume of Carol Danvers as Ms Marvel (with the colors of her MCU suit)
Loved the reaction as ul watched. N the reviews from all 3 of you guys! I dont have disney plus yet, but watching your breakdwns was the best n highly entertaining! Thanku Guys! Great Job! 👏
Wasn’t sure what I was going to think of the show, seeing as I’m not very familiar with the character, but I actually really enjoyed the first episode, and I like that they mixed in her og powers with the new energy powers they’ve given her. Editing and visuals were flawless as well, made every scene enjoyable to watch. Excited to see what’s in store!
I can't beleive I'm saying this but I've enjoyed this first episode of Ms.Marvel more than all of Obi-Wan so far. It feels unique. The direction is creative and it feels sincere. I hope the later episodes dont bring it down. It was a good start.
I think that driver instructor was actually the same actor who played Scott Clarke from Stranger Things season 1 and 3. He was Mike and the gangs’ science teacher.
I honestly didn't expect it to be this good, I've seen it like 4 times already twice with my daughter she loves it, this actress knocked it out of the park, everyone did in my opinion love the visuals and its just a great story, definitely the best MCU show since wandavision
Iman’s performance gave me big Hailee Steinfeld vibes which I don’t hate since I love hailee, just reminded me with the way she gives her facial expressions and vocal performances if that makes sense
The most unrealistic part of this show is that Kamala doesn’t have to turn off the comments on her videos because she’s getting too much hate from fanboys for liking Captain Marvel. Truly this is a fantasy world.
As a pakistani muslim, this episode did a good job representing both pakistani culture and islam without merging the two. Which has been a big problem in the past. There wasnt anything offensive. Pretty solid
When her mom said "It's time to stop fantasizing. I wish you would just focus on you.", I think it meant two things: be an ordinary girl she's suppose to be or be a hero and have her own identity.
LOVED this show, felt more like we were just watching her life and I was so drawn in! I think after wandavision this will be my favourite marvel show 🥰
Loved everything about it. The tone, the visuals, the family dynamics, but most of all, the lead actress just absolutely radiates likability. Just charisma overflowing. I can’t wait for the future of this character.
You may see this unexpectedly becoming the best marvel show this year after going through all those hate and bashing. It already debuted with over 90% rating which atleast I didn't exect after hearing all those hate comments when the first trailer dropped.Typical "Dont judge a book by it's cover"
cocky, narcissistic hero who can't take accountability for their own actions. They justify her actions when she wrecks the driver instructor's car. She continues to disrespect her family and she's unapologetic for any of her actions. How is this considered a hero by any means. I'm not saying she needs to be perfect, but what are they really doing here?
@@michaeljohnstone5984 relax my friend she is just a kid all youngsters make mistake its not like she insulted them or physically assaulted her familly no child is born perfect and this is the first episode so is too soon to judge her now and she did apologise to her mother at the end of the episode
@@michaeljohnstone5984 She is a teenager and in real life sometimes thing happen and consequences are different for each person and each family. Idk what about you, but most teenagers in real life are "disrespectful"
@@michaeljohnstone5984 cocky and narcissistic, sir !!! Are we watching the same show???? She doesnt disrespect her family at all, she's arguing with them about going to a fucking convention bruh, don't be a goddamn hater.
I have a Detail that you missed : when Bruno tells Kamala " Hey , Let's never do that Zombie impersonation again " Matt Lintz ( Bruno ) was on the Walking Dead his character was kill and he become a Zombie , Lol
Greg, good catch on the Statue of Liberty! She's missing Cap's shield and she's also still green. In NWH she had been "restored" and she was bronze again! So then this takes place before NWH timeline-wise? Or do you think that's just an oversight?
@@MrGeoff-iv6re yeah I know. In NWH, the statue had also been cleaned and restored so she was bronze again. But in the credits here, the Statue of Liberty is green. So either that’s a continuity oversight or this takes place in the timeline before NWH.
@@fulcrum8108 interesting… I kinda hope it is a timeline thing and not a continuity issue. I feel like the Disney+ shows have had a lot of that recently. I still love it though!
I felt really refreshed to get away from all of the darkness of the last couple Marvel experiences and have something that is grounded yet… cosmic at the same time
The Statue of Liberty is in New Jersey, it's on Liberty Island which belongs to NJ and is on the NJ side of the Hudson River and is significantly closer to Jersey City then NYC.
I have loved every ep of Kenobi, and while ep 4 is my least favorite of the show so far, I still really liked it a LOT. I say that so the proper context is established to follow that with this: I think Ep 1 of Ms Marvel absolutely WRECKED Ep 4 of Kenobi. Iman Vellani is incredible, and the show is full to bursting with heart and style. Truly tremendous stuff, for me.
Ep4 on kenobi is fucking miles ahead of this, this is just cringe tenager over protective parents and novice superhero cliche. Kenobi has had some character development from ep 2 barely being able to use the force and in ep 4 he is able to focus on using the force slightly similar to the way he used to
I kinda hope they connect the bands to the ten rings in some sort of way, like they came from the same place or something. I just think that would be cool And also that the bands can only be used by her family, so that it becomes more than just 'put them on get powers' for anyone
Yes And the Ten Rings energy has connections with the Eternals And one of Eternals member Kingo travel to South Asia and settle in India (Cmiiw India and Pakistan used to be one kingdom) And Kamala's ancestor family are from Pakistan ending up with the wrist band Nevermind Just my crazy theory
i thought i was watching my story (except I don't have superowers). Like Kamala, even I got 'no' as an answer from my parents for basically everything. When she hit the car, I also hit my scooty. When her mom got that costume for Avengers con, it reminded me of my 12th farewell, when my mom got me saree i didn't like. Cheers to South Asian representation.
I really enjoyed the episode! I also really enjoyed Coy's theory on where they're going with Kamala's Law, the lawyer stuff, and the direction of Young Avengers!
This show is giving me John Hughes, meets Better Off Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World meets, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, meets, Teen Witch, meets Bend It Like Beckham meets Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse vibes. Dope episode. The music in this show is also great.
As a Pakistani, this is so exciting to see!! Finally some representation and that too a positive one (about damn time lol) and yes Iman really makes Kamala feel like a real girl, she's such a natural
Was waayyy better than I thought it was gonna be!! Great pilot. In the credit scene, was that the guy from Spider-Man: No Way Home when Peter, Ned, MJ, and May are interrogated?
Wow from 10 minutes in all I can here is “oh my goodness Dakota your skin and bones?! Have you not eaten?! Your auntie Siva and grandma will make you dinner” or “the Mediterranean market…? Why are we coming here?…” an hour later knee deep in yellow rice and what I called oval meat as a kid but really it’s just meat with onions in this leaf. Waking up smelling the food from fresh.. man.. this is what it feels like to feel like your culture is actually noticed. Now I just wanna hold my grandma or watch this with my aunt. Will never forget the parties as a kid being so shy but as you get older learning the history. The love. The FUN. Hard times sure but man 10 minutes in and I just wanna call my grandma to say I love you.
I enjoyed it! It’s kiddish but I enjoy it! Love how we get to see her imagination of the world and how she’s a super fan of captain marvel to becoming a legit super hero
The show is just so creative like WandaVision and its funny, but i have a feeling the show will turn serious removing all the disney 2000s sitcom vibes by episode 3 where she face the consequences of having powers
Everytime they mention Carol (Captain Marvel’s name), I can’t help but think of Carol Peletier, who was the adoptive mother of Henry (played by Matt Lintz, the actor of Bruno) and the horrifying outcome for his character on The Walking Dead. But so far, this show has a pretty good premiere and can’t wait to see how the rest turns out
I wasn't a fan of Kamala Khan in the comics so I wasn't really interested in this show but I was extremely surprised with this episode, it was really different, it had a scott pilgrim style to it, it was a genuine light hearted show. And I could really relate to the family stuff, the aunties gossip, the way they talk, I was really surprised
I'm somehow sad watching the 1st episode because her situation is like what my girlfriend dealing with right now. Being controlled by the family in every moves she make through future plans, clothes, person to be with, even with me, her parents put boundaries with us without valid reasons, but luckily her other relatives supports us. Lot of restrictions but the support is not there. So stressful but I'm still glad coz we're still fighting like Kamala💪🏼
It's indeed frustrating to witness something like this. Kamala is 16 and her mother talks to her like she needs to get her life in order and figure everything out for her future within the next 2 years or something. What kind of future does she have in mind? Being stuck as a housewife with 2 children at the age of 20?! In reality when you are 16, you still have about 15 more years left until you have to settle down on something you want to do and be for the rest of your life.
Stop bullying my boy Coi he's a smart dude! Hahaha great reaction. Miss Marvel isnt my fav but it was fun to watch, reminded me the high scholl tv shows of my time hahaha
Damn pre recorded but can't wait to watch this after watching it.. Hope you guys have a good night n Ms.Marvel ❤️⚡.. i hope Farhan khan character be amazing like his acting.. Love from India brotha.

Agreed.... and I know its too early probably but this is my fav MCU show so far
@@cjrebirth This defo feels a step above the usual MCU show. I don't know if it'll end up being Loki/Moon Knight level but I'm hopeful after this first episode.
Lol that's what all yall mcu fans say at the start of every marvel show.
@@BigBlockChoc1 so true dude
As someone who does not like Disney Marvel....
I actually really enjoyed this and agree with this take.
“You trust me, right?”
“Noooo, I don’t trust you” 😂
the casting of kamala was perfect, I don't know how marvel always does it, it brought back a lot of memories of my own adolescence to see that kind of relationship she has with her parents...what a lovely show.
They totally nailed the characters and tone of the books! Iman Vellani is perfect! Cant wait for more.
@@SeanWheeler100 apparently Kevin said that change is for future reasons
The whole episode from the beginning to the end is so relatable. Just hyped
Ok, this episode was great, like way better than I was expecting
What did you expect?
@@antigoku2083 I expected something that would be a little corny and cringe. But it was done very well, so believable, and it pulled me in right away! Fun little show. And the main actress killed it

For real!? Literally the best MCU show, it's like.. amazing!!
@@AvEnGeD7X238 I expected the same for Moon Knight, turned out it was good.
This was such a breath of fresh air. Marvel has been missing style. Ms. Kamala brought it. 🔥🔥🔥 💯🙏🏽 The actress is basically playing herself since she cosplayed the character before even having the part. Talk about a manifest. 🎥
Well marvel has been bringing a lot of style in phase 4 in my opinion it started with Wandavision and then Moonknight and Doctor Strange MOM had so of the most unique film making we’ve seen in a super hero film marvel is getting better with it
I think Moonknight had style but I agree this was really good
@@ae8710 Moon Knight had some you right even Loki and especially Wandavision, but this is next level style. This is modern millennial style. 💀😂
And I love the unique use of neon signs and the environment to show text that was sick!

this show warmed my heart in so many ways! the music, the character made real, the scott pilgrimness. SO MUCH JOY! and so real.
To be honest, this series gave a lot of Spider-verse vibes
I don't understand how people dislike this episode before it even came out from the actress to the visuals was very good it's a good change of pace from multiverse of madness and moonknight which I feel like moonknight needs a second season.
As a Filipino myself, I can very much relate to this! The family aspect and her being a young fan is enjoyable to see! Asian American, Central Asia, & Middle East trying to get more accurate representations are standing out more and more in films and media and to that I am so happy and excited!
And south asians
Having COY on is an absolute stroke of genius, he makes everything more sweaty.

This episode was SO GOOD. To me it’s the best of any marvel TV show so far. This is gunna be a great show
Iman Velani (who plays Kamala) was interviewed this morning on Good Morning America and she really is just like Kamala Khan.

"I don't judge by names. My names' Coy" - Coy Jandreau 2022
I can't beleive I'm saying this but I've enjoyed this first episode of Ms.Marvel more than all of Obi-Wan so far. It feels unique. The direction is creative and it feels sincere. I hope the later episodes dont bring it down. It was a good start.
Coy was actually right about when kamala khan made her comic debut. It was in captain marvel #14 in august of 2013
The show has a vivid energetic style. If Edgar Wright had his own marvel show this would be the result. It's great.
Shes an incredible actress and you can tell shes a HUGE fan
I think that driver instructor was actually the same actor who played Scott Clarke from Stranger Things season 1 and 3. He was Mike and the gangs’ science teacher.
Every conversation felt like i am talking with my parents. So relatable.
I like it. It's cozy. Kamala is likeable and charming, a bit awkward and quirky, but not annoying. I overall really enjoy the tone of the show.
I honestly didn't expect it to be this good, I've seen it like 4 times already twice with my daughter she loves it, this actress knocked it out of the park, everyone did in my opinion love the visuals and its just a great story, definitely the best MCU show since wandavision
So far the trailers did this show dirty. I ended up liking it. Hopefully ep. 2 is just as good even better
Coy is a gem! He always provides so much insight that I am here for
Iman’s performance gave me big Hailee Steinfeld vibes which I don’t hate since I love hailee, just reminded me with the way she gives her facial expressions and vocal performances if that makes sense
I think the fact that Bruno made what is basically an Alexa by himself is incredible. This kid is clearly a genius
Yea that was believable
This is the most stylish marvel show yet

Ep4 on kenobi is fucking miles ahead of this, this is just cringe tenager over protective parents and novice superhero cliche.
