The Easiest Way To Start Seeds For Busy Gardeners

- It's spring, and there's nothing that says "spring" better than starting your own seeds!
We recently starting carrying the Excel Seed Starting Trays here: sandiegoseedcompany.com/produ...
They're really handy because they come filled with pre-moistening soil and even holes for seeds. When you have a million other things going on, they're so simple!
Whether you're using these or not, here's what you need to know when starting seeds:
1. Start with good soil
2. Moisten it
3. Plant your seeds
4. Fertilize after they get true leaves
That's the gist of it! There are little things you can do along the way, but you don't need to overthink it.
If you're keeping plants in pots for an extended period of time, you'll also need to pot them up. Depending on the size of the pot, the crop, and time the plants are in said pot, you may or may not need to do this before transplanting out into the yard.
To give you a leg up this year, I'm giving away a 50 cell tray and some seeds! Here's how to enter and good luck:
1. Like this video and leave a comment to let us know what you want to grow in the tray
2. Subscribe to this channel if you haven't yet

Great idea!
Those trays look awesome❤
Fantastic! Looks so great!
Pretty cool seed starting tray for very small seeds!
❤ herbs and flowers 🎉
That tray looks so easy and ready to go! I would love a chance at giving that system a try. Happy Gardening!
Love that idea! I'd probably use it to start my peppers and add more herbs as well.
Wow nice ❤ and I would love to grow 25 medicinal herbs and 24 flowers for my best friends 🐝🐝🐝🐝💕 😊
Always so thoughtful! 😊
I love this ❤ I want to grow basil , parsley, tomatoes , zinnias, marigolds, etc.
I am subscribed to all.
Thank you for all this great content 😊
I would plant flowers and basil in those trays ❤
Great idea on the new seed trays! I would grow herbs.
I'm going all out with peppers this year by starting 10 different varieties including a few varieties I got from you guys, thank you! And of course I've run out of room in the few seed starting trays I have already. It may be over compensation on my part because I tried to overwinter 10 peppers plants by transplanting them into growbags last fall to make room for my fall/winter crops but took the "don't over water them" advice to seriously and they all died. Ugh!
I would be starting basil, cosmos, some tomatoes, lettuce, and cucumbers.
Great idea to carry those trays. That size is a good start size but hard to find.
I’d start basil, cosmos, marigold, African daisy, onion and shallots. Thank you for making this giveaway tray available.
Love this 🌱 I would plant cottage seeds - coneflower, zinnias and cosmos 🌸🌹💐🌼
I’m starting on growing zone 9b here in Elk Grove California and I want to grow the veggies herbs flowers to sustain my health and the health of my family. I am 53 and my grandkids are so excited sow seeds with Grama 😂❤🪴💯🙌🏾 I’m so happy I found you!!
If I win the tray, I am going to grow borage seeds and other herbs such as Comfrey seeds to help me sustain my organic container 🫙 garden 🪴 Thank you for all you are sharing!
I used to live in San Diego my kids father is a Navy Veteran of Dessert Storm and he was stationed in SD back in 1987-91…It’s truly beautiful in SD!! ❤
Yay! Love that you're sharing and passing it down to your grandkids
Great trays! I'd love to grow some Marigolds in there (:
Dahlias, Sweet Peas, Nigella, Poppies, Zinnias 🌱🌸🌺
Beans! I’m a few days from my last frost date! Texas z 8a
Happy Easter ✝️
What a great offer! I would grow medicinal herbs.
I would plant flower seeds, basil and tomatoes!❤
That is a cool tray. I would use it for herbs. I want to grow more for medicinal and cooking purposes.
I like to start tomatoes!! Also some herbs, I always have trouble with herbs seedlings, this will be a good opportunity to learn what I need to improve, thank you 😊
I would be growing veggies and flowers. 🌺
Lots of basil varieties to go next to tomatoes and peppers. Also some dill to mix in around chard.
Total newbie with seeds...I'd start with tomatoes, zinnia and marigolds.
Dahlias, southern peas, and okra
I would plant basil, gomphrena, ami, rudbeckia, and any other flower seeds I can find..😍
I'd use it to start some Strawberry Fields Gomphrena!!!
Flowers
Love the tray! I have a 7 month old too so I get it 😂 I would grow flowers and herbs ❤❤
Twins!
That seems like it’d also work well for cuttings. But I’d be starting my native Yarrow seeds to replace the lawn 😊
🌺 New subscriber to your channel, calendar, and newsletter 🤓 perfect timing for your video to show up as i am a new organic container on the patio gardener who recently obtained seeds from the local library. Looking forward to growing kale broccoli, watermelon (and more!) plants in the 50 cell tray. I'm a Registered nurse promoting a diet which includes only Whole foods from the Garden, no salt oil or sugar 🌱💖 This 50 cell tray method is so much more convenient than my original plan 🙏🏻😁
Do some research on cool season vs warm season depending on your zone. Broccoli and Watermelon are grown in different times of year. Happy planting!
Another great video. You can always use more basil..
Always!
Marjoram, Oregano and Zaatar, in one.
Perilla and Basil in another one.
Tomatoes in the third and fourth one.
Already got it all planned out!
Green house looks amazing!
We're all about bringing more pollinators into our garden this year so we'd be planting pollinator flowers, and cucumbers and tomatoes. Because our little ones love them! 😊
Love it!
Herbs and peppers. 🌱🌿🌶️🫑
Wonderful for starting herbs and flowers🥰 I ❤️ Sandy Eggo!
Tomatoes and peppers for my new garden at my mom and step dad’s property. I was so sad when we moved and I had to give up my fifth year garden I made, but while we are in an rv till we can purchase land my parents are allowing me free range on their 3 acres!
Oh my gosh! I love this tray! I'm older and the arthritis in my hands make it difficult to fill small cell trays. I'm starting loads of pollinator flowers and this will be perfect!❤❤❤❤
I would grow lots of chamomile in the tray. I can never grow enough.
I'd definitely start all my tomatoes, eggplants and peppers again. I mentioned in a previous comment how my toddler terror dumped all mine out and I still am needing to restart them😅😂
Oh yeah! Haha. Dang, can't wait for that age 😂
I would try herbs like basil and oregeno, as well as some flower varieties.🌻🌼....BTW you are looking great / post baby👍🏽-- I had 3 and know how hard it can be getting back into pre-baby clothes.
I just got a bunch of new types of cherry pole tomatoes and some pollinator attractors for my new raises beds. This spring is lots of tomatoes , flowers, and veggies.🥕
Wow! Really nice set up on the greenhouse. Alot of nice green growth.
I’d grow tomatoes and zinnias!!!❤
oohhh.. pepper, tomatoes, eggplant
Peppers, basil, tomatoes, lettuce. Pollinator flowers, bee balm, butterfly bush, herbs. Last year I damping off and lost a good bit off my plants and they were late and struggled. I am looking for a better way of doing it.
Have your dwarf tomato seeds cause I’m in 9b too. Would start those + flowers 🌸
I would plant more herbs in tomatoes!
Can't ever get enough!
Zinnias, basil, peppers, and tomatoes🌼🌿🌶🍅 😋
Sounds like summer!
I would grow herbs like Cilantro, basil, and parsley! I tried to grow herbs for 2 years and they don't grow for me. I'm in zone 9b...I border L.A. County and Orange County.
Already planted out all my tomatoes and peppers. I’d start my okra, melons, and squash. Also does that tray have 1 large hole at the bottom of each of the plugs? Thanks.
Marigolds, buttercrunch lettuce, tomatoes, peppers and anything else that jumps out at me as I go through my seeds and the nursery seeds
I’d love to try the excel tray! still trying to figure out the best way to start seeds… it’s hit or miss (pot too big, pot too small, seed mix holding too much water, or drying out too quick).
Chamomile bc they're delicious and adorable fresh cut. How do we subscribe to your newsletter?

Is it to late for giveaway, little late watching but eventually I get around to xtra time:)
Nope! We're going to be picking in the next couple of days here
Wow! those are some leggy tomatoes! The Excel Seed tray looks like so much fun! I would definitely go with some beneficial flowers as that is what I need more of right now lol, but also some watermelon and melons for bountiful summer fruits. Thank you for sharing this new offering 🌱🌱
Yes, we have a whole video on that fun mistake 🤣
I would like to plant a tea & herb garden ~ things like holy basil, camomile, parsley, dill ... 🌱🫖
Ooo nice! Do you dry your own herbs?
