      Nice Video, I like the pace. Just wondering why your not on the new UI. When you have the time. A tutorial on modeling a car, gun, Something that you have to import canvases on all axis to get the reference, would be great.

    Coming from an engineering background I found that getting my head around the Parametric Design environment relatively straight forward compared to the Sculpt and Surface environments! But your excellent videos on these subjects are the best I've found and have given me a much better understanding of what is possible in these environments. Keep up the excellent work!

    Just the right speed. Lots of tutorials, including some of the Autodesk videos, fly the mouse around like it's an angry gnat. I don't know where it started and I can't follow where it finally lights. Before I can catch up, it's flown somewhere else on the screen. Your are carefully paced and the order you present things is deliberate.
    For example, on the Thread panel, the Model checkbox is way at the top. Most others click it right away before the viewer can understand why it is being clicked. You wait until the very end where we can see exactly what it does because everything else has been done.
    I've been whacking away at F360 for a month now. I didn't follow your 30 day tutorials in order (some I still haven't looked at) because I learn best by doing something I want to accomplish. But when I get stuck, I look through your videos to find something the uses where I'm stuck. Nearly every time, one of your videos resolves the issue.

      Thanks, Ericcsuf! I'm happy to hear that you been enjoying my videos!
      I've definitely been getting better and better the more videos I crank out. I'd agree with you - some of the Autodesk videos could use some improvement. Unfortunately, they seem to continue to post really old videos that were originally used for documentation and other types help content...which seems to cause a lot of confusion... let along the dry instructor.
      My goal with the 30 days series was to make them thorough enough that one wouldn't have to necessarily watch them in order. With that said, please don't hesitate to comment on any of my videos should you have any questions. Cheers, Kevin :)

      Just a question , I saw your videos for converting Mesh ( as stl file ) to solid body to modify , the main challenge in the way you demonstrate is switching off recording history , my question is , is there other way to avoid switching off recording history because if I switched on the history after conversion the performance of fusion 360 become so bad in case of complex mesh object

      @@MohamedMostafa-tv6cd Currently, in Fusion 360, there is no way to do that without turning off the design history. I would suspect that there won't be a way to do so in the near future either, as it really comes down to a performance issue with the timeline being able to handle such complex changes.
      If you have a really complex mesh then I would suggest checking out Autodesk Meshmixer (also free). Meshmixer is much better at handling complex meshes. You may even be able to reduce the mesh and change it up as desired, and then bring it back into Fusion 360. Cheers, Kevin :)

      Hi, Kevin. Great to hear from you and that's a good question. In short, Surface modeling is used when the focus of the design is solely on the exterior "surface" geometry. The advantage is that you can create smooth and complex exterior curvatures without worrying about solid components getting messed up. I will be doing more posts on my website this new year in regard to surface modeling as well as more tutorials. This other video of mine explains things a bit more on a high-level approach, in which I think you'll see some of the benefits really shine in the process - ua-cam.com/video/8HwM07hmXhM/v-deo.html

    After you complete the bottle is it as easy as printing it?
    Also, what are your thoughts on the UI beta?

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline  5 років тому +1

      Hi, Rud Dog. Great question... I'm not sure how this would print out as I haven't tried it yet. This type of surface modeling was done with the intention of blow-molding the object, in terms of real product development. However, I would assume this would print fine, especially on a smaller scale. I guess a lot of it would depend on the type of printer... and maybe the wall-thickness would need to be increased some?
      In regards to the "new" UI. Overall, I like the direction it is going. I've been using it quite a bit... but have been reverting back to the current UI for recording these tutorials until the new UI is solidified and actually pushed out to everyone. Some of the feedback I have given my contacts at Autodesk include some room for improvement with the tabbing of the different "workspaces" or grouped commands. As I discussed with them, I think the relationship between the tab and the available commands is not quite as clear as it could be. They underline the tab, but there is no visual divide between the other tabs and the icons below. Generally speaking, it's a best practice to stay away from having tab-styled UI components underneath other tabs. As in, there are tabs for the files and now tabs for the different grouped commands. I think they need to restyle this a bit...and I know they're working on it. Other than that, I think it comes down to a lot of small details...maybe decreasing the size of the icons in the toolbar? Having better hover states? Having more help text, etc.
      What do you think??? Have you tried it out?? Cheers, Kevin :)

    • @MaxGoddur
      @MaxGoddur 5 років тому +1

      @@ProductDesignOnline As with anything new the interface will cause users to stumble and revert back to the old UI only because they are familiar with commands and their locations. I tried it out and returned to the old UI in the interest of expediency. But if they push it out as the standard I think I could get used to it.
      Thinking will the videos be created under the new or old UI here and elsewhere in youtube land.

      I feel ya on that. It always takes a while to adjust no matter what. My plan is to not switch my tutorials over to the new UI until the update is formally pushed out to everyone. I had debated doing the new UI a few months ago, but then realized that they are still changing things (quite often) as we speak. I didn't want to end up with 3 or 4 different UI versions throughout the tutorials...and figured it would be best to only have them adjust with official/major releases. Cheers, Kevin :)

    What would be the main difference between this process and the exact same one, lofts and splits but using solids?

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline  4 роки тому +1

      Surface modeling gives more flexibility when focusing on the exterior surface. With solid modeling you would not be able to create the hole in the handle, with the capability to change the geometry. with surface modeling you also add the thickness at the end of the process. The advantage to this is that you can create, trim, and manipulate bodies without having to worry about them taking up the same space - one of the common errors and problems with solid modeling.
