Acting Texas Governor pledges to hold CenterPoint accountable for Beryl preps

Center point has failed Houston and Texas it’s time for them to go and held accountable
And will continue to do so
Are you going to hold Walmart accountable when they're out of your favorite cheese, too? Private industry sells a product and is not a matter for the state.
What is wrong with you people? I run a group home for the mentally disabled and we were without power (and water) for four days. *I took action* when the supplier was unable to deliver my product.
Center point did not take this hurricane seriously. They did not prepare. They assumed the storm was going to miss the Houston area. The weather forecasters did their job by warning us a week ago to prepare. If they said it was a CAT 0 I’m preparing because this is not new we should have this hurricane preparedness ready to go!
Translation from the point of view from centerpoint energy top brass: we do nothing, let tragedy strikes profit will rise, we will rise electricity bill unchallenge uncontested, more money from uncles Sam more numbers by creating artificial tragedies=Money and spending. US is model by a war economy. Everything is very coldly calculated.
CAT
Short for category. Ftfy
Learn to do without sometimes, pathetic.
It is easy to blame. We all had the same information and the warning that power would be interrupted.
Not intending to sound like I'm defending them, but in fairness - the hurricane was basically a direct hit on Katy / West Houston and the forecasts were not showing that until about 24 hrs prior. About 48 hrs prior the forecasts were saying it would go between Houston & SA and 72 hrs prior the forecasts were saying it would graze Western SA. I know this because I was watching them like a hawk as a SA resident.
I guess either way they should've had people ready to go, but if the expectation was to mostly miss SA & Houston that the number of workers would be lower as there are much fewer power lines in rural areas between the two cities.

I lived in Connecticut during two emergencies around 2011-2014. One was a rare Halloween heavy snowstorm that took place before the leaves fell. In destroyed our big hardwood trees. They were down everywhere. In a Hartford suburb I was out of power for 9 days due to all the downed trees. The storm also took out our interstate power lines. Everyone blamed the power company while most people neglected their own trees that fell in the streets blocking many many roads. . Others were out of power for weeks in rural areas. Then we got hit by the same hurricane that hit new york city in those years. I lived out of town. Again I was out of power for 8 days and many w/o power for weeks. Anyway, of course it was the very rich that we’re suing the power company. The State force the power company to pay everyone for their trouble. The amount I got was worth months of electricity. Our power company went bankrupt. Do u think the power company should have brought thousands of repair crews with their equipment into the hurricane and risk the storm? Maybe they had their own work to do in other parts of the country. Should the crews have slept in motels only to be flooded? Ya’ll live in target zone for hurricanes. What did you except?
To be fair, a lot thought the hurricane Beryl was going to land at Port Lavaca and up into Victoria, but it turned right at the last day along Matagorda and up Bay City which put Houston more on the east side of the storm, on the 'dirty side'. Had Beryl stayed through Victoria and gone straight up into Texas before moving eastward, Houston would have been spared much of the wind damage that brought down the power systems.
BIG FRUSTRATION about this timing is Houston just recovered from a mid-May storm that knocked out a lot of power and one would think those repairs would have strengthen the Houston area power systems, but doesn't appear to have done so. Folks are calling for changes to the Center Point infrastructure to bury more electric lines underground, such as what is done in many residential neighborhoods from the 1980's, but the lines around those neighborhoods and main roadways are still pole and wire setups.
She could certainly be a press secretary for Biden.

The only way to get changes in Texas is for the voters to make BIG changes and bring in another team.
And you were problem free before Abbott? Lol...barking up the wrong tree as usual.
@@rickss69 You that attach your devotion to hero worship ar the real problem. Try going with issues instead of heros and we'll all benefit troll.
What happened to Greg Abbott?
I don't know... maybe a flat tire on his wheelchair??
@@USA.RE3 I asked because the thumbnail said (acting Texas Governor) etc.
Hiding out in Asia now.
Enjoy the heat repubs...this is what your vote buys you.
on vacation in ASIA!!!!!
Asia
Can’t get through on the phone or chat. Have no idea what’s going on in your neighborhood. Just generic info on the website without being specific as to what areas they are working in and repair timelines.
The numbers are to pacify you
No one is there to actually answer any of them
So Abbott left the country for asia. Couldnt pick a better time could he? The politicians seem to leave everytime their power grid fails due to no maintainance.
The guy acting as governor should ease up on the ozempic. He’s looking more and more like a corpse.😂
He smokes crakk
He always has. As long as they cash in those Ercot checks, no cry, no foul.
He is older than you think
The NWS track forecast blew the hurricane landing by almost 200 miles, so there's that.
This is 3rd world country level service. Shame.
Lawsuit
Preparing for the worst emergency is called emergency preparation.
As usual with every single conversation, it all boils down to MONEY.
I think our tax dollars need to be invested into underground power lines and transformers. And also they need to be better prepared either in town or very close by when stuff like this happens so they can deploy ASAP.
Where that is viable option, sure. It isn't a 1 size fits all solution though.
it seems to me that beryl caught texas off guard with her destruction. even though she was a high level cat one she packed a mighty punch.
This is not Texas first hurricane. They happen every year and it's always a 3rd world disaster.
They were expecting the storm to hit further south as it was originally forcasted for, where the population is much lower and the number of power utility lines is less (weather man is partially to blame). Unfortunately, they forgot to request more assistance as soon as the hurricane changed direction towards Houston. My theory is that the person responsible of requesting man power was on vacation. He or she probably took a four day Holiday weeken (hint: 4th of July) like many people including Judge Linda Idalgo (Thursday to Sunday). They came back Monday and were like, "oh, shoot. We need more people." Also, Linda didn't cut her vacation short, she was planning to return Sunday afternoon regardless.
I don't need an investigation, this is exactly what happened. It happened at my job, and probably at many other jobs as well.
I saw NWS models showing Houston in the cone, with poss predictions of cat 2+ and multiple violent tornado outbreak on the eastern edge. There were prob more storm chasers lined up than power crews.
Texas governor is in Asia on Texas taxpayers dime.
At least Texas has money for charter flights and razor wire. Too bad it doesn't help the electric grid.
One bright spot, is plenty of immigrants to clean up the debris, because we all know darn well, white Texas bubbas are way above that kind of work.
I'm still without power. I was told by a CenterPoint employee that my area ticket hasn't been acknowledged yet by anyone within CenterPoint and he assumes that we'll have power around Thursday.
Same SE Houston
I’m in Conroe and Entergy is telling me “restored by Sunday” so instead of counting sheep to get sleepy, I’ll count the beads of sweat running down my face. Funny how The Woodlands is coming back online much faster than the rest of Entergy’s territory. Money talks, and BS walks…
They will punish then with a tax break maybe.
