    It is a video that is old.
    About two players not trying to fold.
    Villagers mining in rocks for gold.
    And many a tactics performed, brave and bold.
    From T90 a tale is told.
    Of food that could be sold.
    Or be turned into mold.
    This all from a video. Old and gold.

    I'm feeling a bit nostalgic when I see this old game, as I was playing AOE heavily from 2002. I would really like to see more old games - it's refreshing too see skills and strategies unaffected by today's internet GG-consensus and micro-management/quick walling. Somehow, I believe these old games have a lot of spirit and potential for AMAZING LEARN!!!

    Games like these make you cherish and treasure Daut. Hugely entertaining game sure but you can see so many flaws compared to today's meta, no disrespect meant, in fact this was a time when the game evolved greatly.
    Now put yourself in Daut's shoes, he has been through all this and still is relevant today, the way he has had to constantly adapt his play style to stay relevant and not become just another name who played the game.
    All hail the Lord Daut.

      @ExactConsciousness 3 роки тому +2

      I'm sure if you asked the guy he'd tell you that it was just down to a players descretion on doing multiple sheep's, luring boar, and build orders. T90 says we didn't have resources to build orders but we had many websites and forums, including clan website. The thing was we didn't have UA-cam and video instructions like people nowadays so we practically were all figuring it out on our own. Now any casual gamer can be decent enough with a couple of UA-cam videos.
      WATCHING RECORDINGS, of super high level players, was the best shortcut to train yourself to improve your game.

    • @raifthemad
      @raifthemad Рік тому

      @@ExactConsciousness I remember discovering around 2005, that the game came with a couple of replays for build orders. Even remember one players Name was maimingmatty. Taught to lure boar, taught about mass forward production buildings, about massing vills, booming etc. Someone who never bothered with replays would never stumble upon these though.

    There is a this other really good classic game. It was where this guy in castle age thought that he was going to lose so he sent out vills everywhere on the map and built tcs. The other guy was pushing his main base while he had no idea that his opponent had another 10 tcs scattered around the map. By the end of the game this guy had about 26 tcs. His opponent managed to destroy his original base but he had too many resources. He started making stables and scouts(this was in imp by now). He started streaming it into his opponent's base. When his opponent found out about all these tcs and saw the scouts, he resigned resigned. The guy pretty much killed nothing all game, made a few scouts and won because his eco was too big.

    at 15, he was not building a tower to defend the farm, he was building a tower overlapping the TC's range to gain some foothold and regain some territory, overlaping ranges make for deadly zones, and he tried building one as far away from the archers as possible while keeping it in TC range, his next move would have been to continue overlapping towers one by one inside the other tower's range and the TC's range, but closer and closer to the archers, imagine a tower arrangement in a dice's 6 shape, but with the TC in the middle, if the villagers arent relatively safe there i don't know where.

    • @kly8105
      @kly8105 5 років тому

      I'm not saying its a pro move, i'm saying he was desperately losing his own base, and overlapping tower ranges was probably the only thing that was going to keep his villagers safe when farming. At least that is what i think he was thinking.

    It's insane how the skill has increased over the years. This looks like I'm the one playing and at certain times it looks even worse. And I've only been playing the game for like a month. Pretty ridiculous. But then again, I've had the opportunity to learn from players like Hera and Viper, whereas these players kinda had to figure out a meta themselves.

    seeing blues micro, decision making and eco management i can see why he went for this wacky and risky strategy at the start. he would've lost big time playing standard if he plays that bad :'D
    he is STILL eating mangonel shots left and right even when his attention is AT THE FIGHT. the lag honestly couldnt be that bad, i mean, red microed so well and managed, so blue really has no excuse!

    Amazing game, thanks for sharing. Blue had so many chances to win that game, but what a counterattack by Red to ultimately win! You don't expect games to be so back and forth but I think in the end it was Red's micro, economy and will to never give up that saw him through.

    Around the time AOE2 came out, there was a Strategy guide for it actually from Ensemble Studios. I got it, and they did, indeed, explain that you don't want to divide vills between sheep, as meat slowly rots away. I take pride in the fact that I knew this in 1999 and still remain a sucky player, while players 10x my league apparently took a long time to figure it out! :D

    Having watched a lot of your casts of both recorded and live games on youtube, I can say that the ones that are live to you are always more enjoyable for me. For the pre-recorded ones you always end up hinting or giving away the ending or stuff that's about to happen, and you're not as excited or as focused because you already have a sense of what will happen. The style difference when you truly don't know what will happen is clearly noticeable. I'm not sure if there's a way for you to get good pre-recorded games while still masking the game length and outcomes from yourself while casting them, but it would improve the experience. Keep up the good work!

    Awesome match. It could be very nice if we could have maps with randomized and balanced resources so that we could have more interesting matches but I think it is not so much possible with current game, maybe we can get it in remastered version?. I feel like the game is so focused on execution and micro management, its strategy aspect kind of lag behind.

    great game! i’m only in the middle now but wanted to add my two cents: as a game addict the element of surprise is one of the most enjoyable factors when i watch a recorded game. You tend to say things like “he is the legend of this game” which kinda spoiling the moment here. For instance what blue did in the beginning with the archery ranges was very unexpected and i would have thought he was the one who would lead the game. However you commented too often about reds importance in this game and i expect him to counter attack soon. it’s just less enjoyable knowing what’s gonna happen man.

Record and watch your games, watch other recs, watch pro games, practice build orders, memorize civ-specific differences, play people better than you, play on Voobly, force yourself to play civs you don't usually play, etc etc etc. All of these will help refine your skills. Watching SOTL's civ overviews will help, but not much else on the channel is too useful in practice... SOTL focuses a lot on the math when, in practice, you don't remotely have time in a game to micro manage your eco to the degree SOTL's videos investigate

    well, surely the meta has evolved, but back when I was playing this game (in 2000-2004) we knew to only collect from 1 sheep at a time and I was 1600-1700 rated... but maybe they forgot by 2010 :D In all honesty, the game really hasn't changed much over the years, the hunwars (hun-only players were called hun-whores :D) have stopped but they were stopped already back then by the aztecs strat of drush, wall and FC. As a curiosity, as far as I remember Olympus_Ppoc was the guy who started dominating with the aztecs, eventually bringing an end to the huns being regarded as the best arabia 1v1 civ. I guess the drush + FC also killed the long feudal fights we used to have.

    2010 isn't that old, if you want some old stuff look for OG Chris' stuff (2003!), Koven and Peel. Build orders were pretty figured out in 2010 already. Back in Koven's time it was 640x480 res with ball mice! And a scout + spearman feudal rush

    Just got into this game. Never really played it before, but I've owned it for years so I'm giving it a shot. Starting a series of videos to show my first 10 hours, and I'm trying to learn the game (and RTS in general). If you know anything about AoE gameplay, watch what I'm doing and educate me.
