Cool video. The key is to turn off screen and take out the CFexpress card when using the Ninja V. There are reasons for everything. There must a reason for the time restriction. It could be good or bad reason. Being positive, I think the good reason for the time restriction has something to do reliability and longevity of the processor. I guess Canon doesn't want us to keep rolling 8k, 4k 120, and 4k HQ for so long that the processor may not last. But that is my theory.
Yeah that could be a reason for sure. If that’s the case then I get it. Since there is technically a work-around, I’m not that disappointed. But if the restrictions do get lifted a bit, that’ll be perfect 👌🏾
You did good. Note, The "Cool down timer" doesn't come into play until the camera reaches the overheating threshold. To find what that is, measure the camera temperature. And NOT with your hands. Get an IR thermometer, FLIR ONE, or thermocoupler. A simple IR thermometer will give you an idea of that camera. Flip out the LCD and measure it there, and over near the card slots. You can also pop out the cards and measure them also. You'll find that they get very hot. As all cards do. The cards don't power down just because the camera isn't doing anthing. If its on, they will eventually get hot. Your manual tells you what the temperature should be. 73 F. And in the back pages you'll find the operating temp. 32 - 104F. You'll discover that yes the camera gets rather hot inside. The future firmware may let you go a little higher but not that far. And surely Canon will give you a caveat, that your waranty won't cover you it you melt down that processor. Sony has a user setting to allow one to go higher. But yeah it gets hot too. I just wouldn't melt down the processor thinking its a fake warning.
Thanks for the great video. I'm new to this whole video world and need slower explanations. You have a nice, patient pace of sharing your knowledge that is very helpful to me. And your manner is very conversational, like you were just helping a buddy, not like you were trying to show off how much more you knew than I do. I look forward to checking out more of your videos. So thank you, sir!
Screen off means no touch to focus though right ? That's the only problem I'm having with thinking about going with the R5. Great video bro ! Keep it up.
Well kinda. You can always turn the screen back on whenever you want during the recording. But I found that when you turn the screen back on while you’re recording, the image will freeze for like half a second. Which may ruin a shot, if you need the whole clip
Hi brother nice videos to the point. I have a question. You had sony and mostly you use the camera for video making. Why you switched to cannon r5and didn’t go for a7siii.
hey man. what are the setting you use for this. I have the r6 and when it still overheats with out the card in and the screen off. also. when i have the screen off on the ninja it records the actual camera screen. like it shows the iso and f stop and all that other stuff
My A7iii stops after 30 minutes, so frustrating, think it has to do with some law or other, but if you ever come accross a work around would love it if you let me know. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and all the work in the video. frustrating having all these things happen, would be nice to just have cameras at this price point to work straight from the box.
Thank you! And does the Canon R5 overheat in 4k 60fps with the Ninja V? Can R5 shoot 1.5 hours non-stop in 4k 60fps with Ninja V? Can you check it, pls?
In the R5 without a CFast card in the the camera you are only getting standard quality and not the downsampled highest quality when outputting hdmi. Hopefully that will be changed in future firmware. Also, with the current firmware people are not seeing any limit in record time to external. eg 2+hrs.
If I'm recording to both the monitor and to the camera then once the camera shows the overheating will I be able to just continue recording to the monitor?
Hey i subscribed..and i got a question...when u say take out the cfs card...than what card would you recommand using if not the cfs card to record your 4k videos on with the ninja 5 external screen thanx
Hey man..thanks for the video. I have an r5 and an a7IV and I need to sell one of them cause I'm not rich (LOL). I would like to keep the r5 cause I love this camera for photos. But, the unlimited a7IV video recording really gets me into the sony. I'm planning to buy an Atomos and I would like to ask you if you notice difference in sharpness between internal 4k hq and atomos 4k hq. Did you test that? I'm asking cause I do crop a lot in my videos so this is a game changer for me. Thank you once again
Hey, Mielz, i have an important question ninja v and R5. Every time i wake up the r5 screen, it freezes a frame by 1 second to the recording in the ninja. I need to wake up the screen to either check the focus or auto focus pull. we also need to keep the r5 screen off most of the time as thats what causes the r5 to overheat :) do you have any advice on this at all?
Man I gotta meet up with you one of these days to test it out cos I really wanna get the R5, but still holding back. I really do hope Canon releases a firmware that takes off that 30 min. max record time in general, but for professional use I'd probably have to use it the same way and have the Ninja V hooked up. Another thing I hope they fix is not needing to take out the CF Express card or turning off the screen just to work properly. We're relying on those future firmwares to have the R5 at its best.
Will you upload the music video to this channel? Also when you record externally to the ninja V , do you have to put a cf express card in the ninja V ?
Mielz sounds good bro. what ssd do you use because online it’s only saying the atomos ssd, is there other options ? Also is does r5 shoot 4K no crop ? Thanks for the videos , keep them coming! Subscribed!!
the limits are not timer based, they are temperature based. its been proven by someone who put their r5 in a freezer to regain the full recording amount of 25mins?
I mean, I’m not gonna dispute that. But there’s also a test of someone checking the temperature before shooting and after it saying it overheated, and there not being any significant difference 🤷🏽♂️ But I don’t know. It could really be temperature, I was just saying my thoughts
@@Mielz That person checked it with their hands. Most everyone that has measured the R5 and the a7sIII with thermometers have acknowledged that they get well over 129 F. And actually unless the Sony does not have the Autotemp set to (HIGH) it will overheat also.

Mainly Canon colors and the 4KHQ mode on the R5. The a7siii is fire too and I wouldn’t mind having that as well
