I just bought a brand new outboard last year. I thought the included fuel tank was defective because it wasn't venting. I never would have guessed that this was an intentional design. I'm not impressed EPA; you managed to make fishing a dangerous activity. The people that approved this change at the agency should be fired.

The tank pressurized the fuel system and instead of gas vapors venting, raw fuel just runs past the needle and seat in the carburetor and runs out on the ground.

The cap can be dissassembled and that check valve removed. It works better than the old style screw vent tanks. The only problem I have found is if you stand it up more than 3/4 full the fuel will leak out the cap. Id rather deal with that then the "football" rolling around under my deck.

Mine pressurized the first time I used it and sprayed fuel in my boat when the tank developed a leak at the fuel inlet. Lost about a gallon of fuel/oil mix in the hull of my boat.. What a POS.

I took my boat out for the first time this Summer and had nothing but problems because of this Attwood tank. I really blame the idiots at the EPA for requiring these crap tanks. First, the tank was flooding my engine causing me to stall (I don't have a Fuel Demand Valve, never heard of one until this issue). I also put a lot of gas into the lake as it was pushed out of the tank and into the engine. Second, the tank deformed substantially pulling the fuel pickup almost 2 inches off the bottom of the tank, resulting in essentially running out of gas even though I had a couple of gallons. The tank didn't return to its normal shape when it cooled down. Ruined my fishing trip. I'm getting a new fuel tank (since mine is deformed and the fuel pickup is too far off the bottom), but I bought a vented cap to use with it. I will probably leave the vent closed when the boat is in storage (it might allow the tank to expand some, but it won't be in the sun so it won't get too hot) and will leave the vent open anytime the boat is outside and/or in use. Hopefully I'll never have to deal with these issues again. Great job EPA! Thank you Obama for the 2011 idiot rules that require these tanks. Instead of some small amount vapor released, I ended up losing a lot of gas into the lake. I'm sure that is great for the environment.

You need a fuel demand valve. Should have one anyway even for a old tank because but would flood engine when vent is closed.

My tank just began leaking from the seam over the handle after only 3 tankfulls... not happy about that especially with the price of the tank and gas.

Hello I bought an Atwood 12 gallon tank 1 week ago . Used it for the 1st time today with the prescribed fuel line and demand valve . When the tank was a bit lower than 1\2 engine died . The tank was clearly "caved in" a bit but I understand that is normal for your tanks? I removed the cap thinking it was a vapor lock to releive the pressure. No go. Had a look see and fuel filter on motor was almost empty so I thought it might be fuel pump on my 70 Merc. Got towed back to marina and we decided to try starting again . No luck . Still no fuel in filter. Added a gallon or so to the tank, primed the bulb and it started up no issues. I had a look inside thinking the pickup line might be the issue but it was sitting on the bottom where it belongs. I exchanged it at the retailer for an identical unit today. Hoping this doesnt happen again. Please advise what you believe the issue may be . Thanks !! I look forward to your speedy reply !

I bet your fuel cap vent was stuck closed. As you consume gas, the valve in the cap must open to let the air in. If the vacuum is building up in the tank. the motor will starve and your engine will dye. I'm considering installing a vent on mine to prevent this to happen. I'm not a big fan of the FDV system.

I understand following laws, as they must do in the tank design.
The thing is adults are grown individuals whom possess common sense, do you follow a law that inherently goes against common sense or logic? I will not carry a ticking time explosion on my boat or store one in my property. Guess its one of those things you just have to do whats right, nevermind consequences which are far less expensive than your property or life of yourself, family or friends. People need to stand up and quit operating with the dangers of a enclosed tank. Laws can be changed back as matter of fact, nobody asked my opinion or vote on the matter, just like most sneaky dangerous half ass things they pass as law on a holiday or Friday afternoon when nobody was looking, knowing damn well if people had been paying attention, it would not have passed to begin with.

My new tank expanded into a big ball and I released the pressure but it will not go back to its original shape. Plus my gas can sucks to and the nozzle is junk and the filter in the tank makes the gas overflow and splash out causing the gas pump to click off. Poor design and not sure if anyone is testing these tanks before release on the market?? I'm going back to the old classic ones

I have by far lost more fuel from this tank than burned in a year.. the retailer that sold it said nothing about an extra device in the line which I’ve never seen sold.. they took my 200 bucks and gave me a bunch of run around how they would have to send it back to attwood so they could pressure test.. I said it’s a pressure fucking bomb that’s the problem.. now it has blown the nice patent pending siphon threads where plastic and brass meet.. so bulb won’t prime.. sure they won’t honor the warranty on that... so my question anyone know of a better made siphon assembly.. or chalk it up to at least 500 dollars wasted on tank fittings, hoses and lost oil and gas... fml this makes me livid!!!

stop voting for idiots like Obama he wants to destroy all small engines with ethanol gas, gas cans that won't pour, and gas cans with no vents.

They are not that good I have one that is a year old and it’s all ready cracking ! They build pressure up and it put pressure on the carburetor and it leaked gas out and all in the boat

Mine leaks around the cap if it's full and it leaks around the black plastic connector that goes into the tank when it expands, I'm not impressed at all with it.
