I just got one from my buddy since he's moving, they gave me a boat and it sat since 2013 with about 2 L of gas in the bottom because that's what I drained into today in the bottom of that tank is almost as clean as this one it's beautiful and I'm pretty sure it came with the mercury that's in it and it's an 85 and I only had a little bit of water in the bottom

Great job on the restoration. The "new" tank looks pretty slick.
I see the description and comments on the color. If this is still used as a storage tank for gasoline for your gocart - it still needs to be red for gasoline. Doesn't really matter where the gasoline ends up. Gasoline storage cans need to be red.
In the US, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires that liquids with a flashpoint at or below 80 degrees F be stored in a red can with the necessary safety features. Flashpoint refers to the lowest possible temperature at which a chemical can vaporize and form an ignitable vapor mixture in the air. Liquids with a flashpoint at or below 80 degrees are considered highly flammable and more dangerous because of it: the lower the flashpoint, the more flammable the liquid.
If you are using it as the actual gas tank on the gocart (not stated), you should be good.

My only concern besides the color of the tank is that you left the tank open to sandblasting, dust, and paint. Hopefully you checked and made sure it was still clean, but might I suggest next time you plug the holes in the tank with paper and tape or something? I have a feeling that "link" holding the gas cap on is something a previous owner did. As I recall originally they were chains.

There is an autobody technique you should learn. It's called guide coating. AFTER your initial boy filler/sanding, just mist the entire piece with cheap enamel spry paint. The very lightest mist you can manage. You MUST use a flat sanding block. A real one. Not a 2" X 2" scrap of sand paper with two fingers. A flat block is the only way to hit only the high spots and none of the low spots. Once the guide coat is fully dry, lightly go over the piece with the sanding block. You're trying to skip over the low spots and dents. Stop. You have found the dents and low spots. Fill again with body filler an re-block. This way, you find all the dents.

@@AJRestoration -still it’s too large tank for a small go cart ! Those tanks are a lot different ,than, a Marine use tank for a boat on the water! And safety is still the top issue! Even in auto racing all tank fillers are different specific colors for the type of fluid in them ! The fire crew uses different chemicals on the fires as well as different methods in fighting fires ,and the color specific to the methods!☠️🔥
