  • What's that you say? A triple distilled PEATED single malt? Couldn't be? OHHH but yes it most certainly is. Brand new Teeling Whiskey Distillery, Blackpitts, triple distilled peated single malt. Ou yea! I'm normally not one for a Peated Irish Whiskey, but see my thoughts on this brand new Irish Whiskey review. Well, a review without scoring, ok so , not not a review. More of a tasting.

    ABOUT ME:
Well, I'm just a bit of a Whiskey nerd/enthusiast. And when creating these videos I only really have one goal - to make your understanding of Irish Whiskey that much better! Well that, and have a bit of entertainment at the same time. And maybe hopefully have you learn a few things along the way and laugh. Okay so maybe not one goal maybe four!
I’m not into those videos that are monotone and busting out fact after fact on whiskeys, no character no nothin. If that's what you’re looking for then keep on rollin baby, this channel isn’t for you! But if you wanna have a little fun while (hopefully) learning, then what are you waiting for, subscribe, and get comfy!
Whiskey isn’t that hard to understand it just has to be delicious!

My husband really enjoys BlackPitts. He thinks it’s a nice earthy peat. Well balanced

I had this during the 3 drams 2nd episode... I was excited when I saw teeling were bringing this out and when I tasted it ordered straight away. Lovely subtle peat and floral notes.

Very approachable. It’s the Glenlivet 12 of peated Irish Whiskey.

Fair play to Teelings. They try their hand at everything, they are innovative and I believe they will be the most respected Irish whiskey brand . This is a delicious whiskey. Smoky, sweet, smooth, very moreish and a perfect middle ground for those not too keen on strong smoke/peat iodine heavy scotch whiskys. On my third bottle already since its launch and even though I'm a huge Islay peat worshipper, this is a peated I will always have in the cabinet.

    Brian, Mo chara:
Enjoyed your review. Below are my notes. I agree that the triple distillation may have taken some of the Turf character away, but what is left is a nice complexity..

Enjoying a second sitting with TEELING Black Pitts Single Malt Irish Whiskey tonight. Here are my impressions.
TEELING Black Pitts Single Malt Irish Whiskey
    11/13/21
Triple distilled, NAS, Non-Chill-filtered, 46% ABV, 2/3 of the whiskey In this expression is aged in Bourbon barrels and 1/3 in Sauternes Wine Cask which are then combined in the bottling process according to the Teeling website.
This is my 2nd serving of this bottle so air has interacted with the spirit.
COLOR: Medium yellow like filtered apple cider. nice ring with large slow moving legs, many drops clinging to the glass.
NOSE: Fruit note followed by a sweet peat note. The two notes blend with the fruit note standing up to the Peat.
PALATE: A mixed fruity and peaty arrival with the peat this time gaining an advantage. The mouthfeel is medium and creamy. The fruit note comes back as I swirl it. There is some pepper tingling my tongue as well!
FINISH: A bit of a candy sweetness going down followed by a drying and a mouthwatering resolving to a sweet peat note.
With 1 drop of spring water
NOSE: A broader mixture of the fruit and peat notes.
PALATE: The fruit note dominates on arrival and remains as the peat note emerges. Again pepper dances on my tongue. The peat note has a sweetness to it. The fruit note comes back as I swirl it. The mouthfeel is similar to Neat.
FINISH: Similar to the Neat at the beginning, but with a spicier backend resolving to a mouthwatering sense.
    With 2 drops of water
NOSE: Light Peat note with a light fruit note underpinning.
PALATE: Again fruit forward arrival with peat underneath, silky mouthfeel with a light burn on my tongue. The peat rises this time as I swirl with the fruit mixing in later.
FINISH: Spicy going down with a dry sense in my throat and tingling on the tip of my tongue.
I have really enjoyed this glass. This whiskey has a nice balance of fruit note and peat note and they are consistant from Neat to 1 and 2 drops of water; which made it interesting to see what showed up first. The mouthfeel was creamy or silk which also added to the pleasure of the glass. I LOVE peat bombs, BUT I LOVED how the peat and fruit notes combined here to create a enjoyable complexity along with the mouthfeel which may be a factor triple distillation? Highly recommended!

Currently running $79.99 here in AZ. I haven't picked it up yet, although I have a bottle of the Single Pot Still and just nabbed a Wonders of Wood.

Hey Eoghan, thanks for the question. I’ve reached out to Teelings and technically yes. Although it’s done in batches and depends entirely on how quickly it sells out really. But moving forward I’m told it is. Hope that helps.

Have you reviewed Connemara in the past? I'm wondering which is more heavily peated, the Black Pitts or the Connemara.

    • @TheWhiskeyChaserBrian
      @TheWhiskeyChaserBrian  3 роки тому +2

I have drank Connemara in the past. And I can confidently say without a shadow of a doubt that it is way more peated than Blackpitts. Blackpitts is more of a deep smoke than peated. That’s why Blackpitts is a perfect entry level peated whiskey for those who are unsure about peat. Thanks for the comment!

Hi Marty, thanks for getting in touch. Would you believe I literally just got a sample of that particular whiskey this morning. I recently did the two newest Moscatel and Malaga cask finishes on the channel, so I’ll probably keep this review/tasting specifically to my Instagram page @the.whiskey.chaser keep an eye out there. Thanks 😊
